Dear Sir/ Madam ,
I am writing in the hope that you can help me with a problem regarding a camera that I have bought recently.
On 24 April, I purchased a Canon digital SLR camera from a duty -free shop at Freetown Airport on my way from Freetown to Wondercity. The camera cost $599, and I paid for it by credit card.
When I arrived at my hotel in Wondercity almost 24 hours later , I discovered that the box which contained the camera did not include the battery , and the space in the box for the charger was empty.
I am now in Wondercity, and I am not returning to Freetown, so I need to get the missing parts here . I would be grateful if you could arrange for the parts to be sent to me. I attach a copy of the receipt for your information.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Introduction
This report looks at the dietary habits of twenty students in their final year at Freedonian Secondary School. The report is based on the students’ responses to the questionnaire administered by the school’s doctor.
Meals
The survey have revealed that the students do not have enough meals. Only eight of those questioned eat before school, and half of them have their midday meal at school. Worryingly, as few as four students have both breakfast and school lunch. Still more disturbing is the fact that an alarming proportion— approximately one-third—of the students have neither.
Eating brown bread
Interestingly enough, bread, a good source of fiber, enjoys popularity among young people. 75 per cent of the students surveyed eat three or more slices of brown bread per day, with only a quarter of respondents restricting themselves to one or two slices.
Eating fat
As regards fat consumption , the majority of the students eat margarine . Four students prefer butter, and another four eat neither.
Conclusion
It is noticeable that the eating habits of students in their final year at Freedonian Secondary School are not very healthy. Moreover , there are no students who have both breakfast and school lunch, eat more than four slices of brown bread per day, and avoid fat.
In this essay, I will discuss whether prevention is better than trying to treat people who are ill and whether or not this is possible in all cases . I will divide the subject into illnesses caused by lifestyle, and illnesses caused by other factors such as genetic factors.
First of all, a person ’s lifestyle can be a major factor in their well-being, both physical and mental . People who eat too much fast, fatty, or sugary foods without doing enough physical activity , may put on weight . This has serious effects and can lead to heart disease . Similarly, people who smoke and drink too much run the risk of getting cancers and heart disease. However , by avoiding these things and doing simple things such as walking short distances instead of driving , eating five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day, and taking 20 minutes’ exercise three times a week reduces this risk and can prevent disease.
As regards genetic factors, the situation is not so clear . Certain genetic factors mean that some people are forced into a lifestyle. For example, people who have certain allergies have to avoid foods containing the things they react badly to. In this case, avoiding certain foods as prevention is obviously necessary. Other more serious genetic diseases , for instance neuropathies, spinocerebellar degenerations, and certain metabolic disorders , cannot be treated by prevention and need to be treated medically.
In conclusion, although many illnesses are preventable, in some cases, however, it may already be too late for any prevention efforts; and the money could be spent on research and on developing cures for people with chronic disorders.

Since the beginning of human life, enormous changes around us have taken us to a path of scientific progress, which in turn has benefited mankind in a number of ways. In every era, man has innovated many things in order to cater for his rising needs . Undoubtedly, the emergence of necessities has always led man to creative exploration.
As time passed, primitive man realized other needs arising around him. After catering to his fundamental needs of food and shelter, man felt the need for acquiring goods which he could not produce himself . This led to the idea of the barter system under which goods were exchanged without the use of money, but a constraint to this mechanism was his limited movement. How far could a man travel , loaded with tons of wheat just for the sake of some kilos of meat? Then, man came up with the idea of the wheel .
Furthermore, as communication was channelized, rising horizons of the world led to the imperative need to express oneself. As the need arose, man seized the use of pictures and paintings for self-expression, which later developed the concept of writing. With the need for writing evolved the need for a substance to write on. Rocks, parchments, and leaves were initially used, but they were not satisfactory. With the passage of time, paper was first invented in China and later mushroomed in the rest of the world.
The above inventions were worth mentioning to interpret the fact that how man moulded himself in accordance with his needs. As the need arose, man came up with new ideas , new thoughts, and forcefully pushed his mind to run on that particular line of action. Even in the modern era, man has been found to observe the same behavioral patterns . Some years ago, TB and cancer were regarded as incurable diseases, man conducted massive research on them and finally came up with effective solutions .
Whether it is the old age or modern era, man has been found too efficient to satisfy his needs and has set numerous examples of it. No matter whether it was a political issue, scientific concern, or even day-to-day chores of life man has reacted in a flexible mood to create a way for himself whenever he realized his needs. Unsurprisingly, he has been successful in achieving an alternative source for his need each time as wherever there is a will, there is a way.

The debate about the best way to generate electricity is back on the agenda. The most common methods are by burning coal , building dams, or using nuclear power .
However, many people think that nuclear power is dangerous , and when you consider the experience of Chernobyl in the Ukraine over 20 years ago, you can see why. Countries such as France , however, get about 80% of their electricity from nuclear power plants , and the pro-nuclear scientists argue that it is actually much clearer than burning fossil fuels , which contributes to global warming .
Others argue that it is better to get electricity from sustainable resources, such as the wind, the sea, and the sun. Although this sounds like a sensible idea, they are not reliable enough to malntain a constant supply of power. For instance, you cannot produce solar energy at night .
Basically, we need a source of energy that will not run out; if it cannot be hydroelectricity or coal-fired energy, it will have to be nuclear. Finding a way of ensuring that nuclear power is safe and cannot be misused is the real challenge.

The surface of the Earth seems to be warming as a result of the greenhouse effect, created by a build-up of harmful gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases can occur naturally; however, human activity add to the levels of these gases, causing more problems. Scientists estimate that the average air temperature could climb a few degrees Celsius in twenty years. Global warming will affect humans , animals, and even plants.
Obviously, our ‘precious home’ is undergoing dramatic alterations in weather patterns, leading to significant changes in the world’s physical environment. Sea temperatures and levels are projected to rise due to the melting of the polar ice caps and thawing of permafrost, which represents an insidious threat to coastal communities throughout the world. Several diverse extreme weather events, such as droughts, floods , and hurricanes, are occurring concurrently around the world, giving rise to an unprecedented loss of human life and property. Increases in the frequency and intensity of heat waves and precipitation have also been observed .
Consequently, a growing number of exotic animals are now on the verge of extinction. More disappointingly, the above-mentioned climatic changes, combined with heedless deforestation and noxious industrial emissions will not only affect animal life by changing important habitats but will also contribute to soil erosion and leaching. Thus, crop yields are expected to continue to drop in coming decades, resulting in widespread famine. Moreover, many regions will face dwindling water supplies as the result of shrinking glaciers and snowpack, evaporation, and the infiltration of salt water. Acute food and water shortages will presumably bring about manifold health problems.
To summarise the situation, having no visible manifestation, global warming has been affecting the earth for quite a while now; the effects of climate change , while not immediate, are potentially catastrophic. I would describe global warming as ‘an environmental time bomb ticking away .’

Personal freedom is a concept the meaning of which depends on the context from which it arises and to which it applies. In other words, it is a concept without a fixed meaning.
To most people, freedom means the absence of fetters or bondage, eg. having the power to act or to speak or to think without externally imposed restraints. One’s childhood’s dream of adulthood is the desire to be independent. One’s adulthood's dream of childhood is the desire to be free from responsibility and enjoy a life without care. In each case, the dream of freedom is idealised. A child dreaming of being an adult wants the independence that the adult has but does not understand the responsibility that accompanies it. An adult dreaming of being a child wants the carefree life that the child has but does not remember that a child is incapable of doing things that most adults take for granted . The only difference between an adult contentedly remembering childhood and an adult desperately reliving childhood is that one has learned to live within the restrictions of adulthood while the other keeps trying to overcome them. What an illusion !
Another ‘ bitter ’ illusion. Some people believe that they are in control of their lives . They like the idea that they are the masters of their destiny and take personal responsibility for what happens in their lives. However, considering that everything in the universe is interconnected and in the process of constant change, how can one believe in freedom of choice ? Indeed, people are presented with some choices; but for different reasons, these choices are limited by somebody or something . One can choose one’s profession, one’s friends , one’s interests, one’s city of residence; however, having chosen to be an engineer, for example, one cannot refuse to learn calculus.
In conclusion, ours is not a world where nobody dominates another or is influenced by anything , by violence, by monetary power, by property rights, by social weight, or by any other means. Hence , it is impossible to find a freedom in which there are no limits , which means that there is no such thing as absolute freedom, and people just delude themselves into believing that they are ‘free individuals’.

British Cuisine Some people criticize English food. They say it's unimaginable, boring, tasteless, it's chips with everything and totally overcooked vegetables. The basic ingredients, when fresh, are so full of flavour that British haven't had to invent sauces to disguise their natural taste. What can compare with fresh pees or new potatoes just boiled and served with butter? Why drown spring lamb in wine or cream and spices, when with just one or two herbs it is absolutely delicious? If you ask foreigners to name some typically English dishes, they will probably say "Fish and chips" then stop. It is disappointing, but true that, there is no tradition in England of eating in restaurants, because the food doesn't lend itself to such preparation. English cooking is found at home. So it is difficult to a good English restaurant with a reasonable prices. In most cities in Britain you'll find Indian, Chinese, French and Italian restaurants. In London you'll also find Indonesian,

What Is Education For? Six myths about the foundations of modern education, and six new principles to replace them by David Orr One of the articles in The Learning Revolution (IC#27) Winter 1991, Page 52 Copyright (c)1991, 1996 by Context Institute We are accustomed to thinking of learning as good in and of itself. But as environmental educator David Orr reminds us, our education up till now has in some ways created a monster. This essay is adapted from his commencement address to the graduating class of 1990 at Arkansas College. It prompted many in our office to wonder why such speeches are made at the end, rather than the beginning, of the collegiate experience. David Orr is the founder of the Meadowcreek Project, an environmental education center in Fox, AR, and is currently on the faculty of Oberlin College in Ohio. This script was the ancestor of the `Times New Roman' font we find on our computer screens today. Another feature familiar to computer users is `italics'. Initially, characters written by hand resembled the carved letters, but gradually scholars began to change the form of their writing, slanting letters and connecting them. The credit for inventing Roman script using capitals and small letters goes to Aldus Manutius of Venice, in 1495 AD. The old Roman capitals and Greek letter forms were thus transformed into the twenty- six alphabet letters that we know today, with both upper and lower-case letters in common use by the end of the sixteenth century.
