Car v. walking

walking Today, people are becoming more and more comfortable and lazier. People are buying more cars than ever, and are starting to forget what is walking; they tend to forget that walking is also one of the ways of traveling. But which is better travelling by car or walking on foot? On the one hand, travelling by car is much quicker than travelling on foot, on foot, people are travelling about 5 km/h, but with car, you can travel so fast, how fast you are allowed to. Also, car is much more comfortable, especially nowadays. But the biggest plus in travelling by car in my opinion, is that, when you are travelling by car you can travel long distances, but when you are walking, you can travel about 10 km and then human organism needs a rest. But...

Walking for meetings - analysis of a Nilofer Merchant presentation

would have also talked for themselves. Despite that her hand gestures were just perfect and she did not seem nervous. To sum up the whole presentation she used some funny words and pointed at her lower back as in the beginning of the presentation. This was used to make people more lively and to let them know that the presentation is about to end. Also she encouraged the audience to move more and told that her life quality has increased greatly due to moving and having meetings while walking . In addition, she used a rhyme to make sure that her message is said out loud and clear - “walk and talk, walk and talk”. I think she reached the goal with her rhyme and whole presentation. At least I started to think differently after listening to her presentation....

Protest letter

Homosexual people marching the streets of Järva-Jaani. Today, i was walking home from school, and i saw four gay couples marching the streets of Järva-Jaani. I was very annoyed because of the noise they were making and crappy music they were playing. I hope Arto Saar will do something about it, because i do not think i could stand another day having to walk past them. People of Järva-Jaani, I hope that you will help me freeze out these gay couples before there will be more of them walking the streets of my hometown....

Rowan Atkinson elulugu inglise keeles

Although he'd first appeared at Edinburgh when he was 17, Atkinson was spotted at the 1976 Festival by television producer John Lloyd, who went on to produce him in his first starring role - as one of the four members of the ’Not The Nine O'Clock News’ sketch team. This was followed by the huge success of Blackadder and its sequels which propelled Atkinson to star status. He then went on to create Mr Bean. A walking disaster, Bean was purely physical comedy, the opposite of Edmund Blackadder's polished dialogue. This clumsy character was a huge success and became another national treasure. Atkinson's other characters rely more heavily on language. Atkinson often plays authority figures, especially priests or vicars, speaking absurd lines with a completely deadpan delivery. One of his better-known comic devices is over-articulation of the "B" sound, such as his...

Blandings Castle

"McAllister ... Angus ... " said Lord Emsworth in a low voice. "Come back! The pumpkin needs you." Lord Emsworth is the protagonist in the book. His full title is Clarence Threepwood, 9th Earl of Emsworth, and Viscount Bosham. His character is kind, but a bit absent- minded. Throughout the book many of the actions and situations are related with him, some more, some less. He most likes being alone and either walking in the garden or reading a book in the library. Also, he does not stand one bit his son Freddie staying at the castle and is willing to do much to get rid of him. Throughout the book, he often gets into funny situations (Quotes 1,2). Also, he often drifts away from the topic on hand and starts to speak about what is on his mind at the moment. This often irritates many of the other characters (Quote 3). He is absolutely possessed with his garden...

The bridge is over 50 m long. It has been rebuilt many times over the years, last time in 1995. Gym Hazards

People often find themselves exercising one muscle more than another so they may end up with some muscles more developed than others, or even getting bigger in the very places they want to reduce or firm up. This happens when woman fail to lose fat as the same time as they build muscle. The modern idea that everybody has to join a gym is just ridiculous. Walking , swimming, rowing and dancing have all been found to be good all-round forms of exercises. The key to sticking with exercise is to make it fun, and if going to the gym seems boring or painful, there is no need to do it. Berthe Valdaru 12a...

Oliver twist - kokkuvõte

Chapter 34: Oliver was overjoyed at the news that she would recover, and was gathering flowers along the road for her sickroom when a post chaise came upon him. The voice of Giles called out to him and asked him of news, and he told him that she would live. A young gentleman then exited the coach and further questioned Oliver. He instructed Giles to take the coach back to his mothers, because he felt like walking the rest of the way. Harry Maylie had an affectionate meeting with his mother in which he expressed his desire to see Rose and give her his love. The old woman tried to warn him against this talking vaguely about Rose's unbecoming past, but Harry did not care. The evening was spent in joy, and the next day dawned as usual for Oliver except that Harry began going with him every morning to gather flowers. Rose continued to recover, and Oliver continued hard at his studies. One...

The crowd, roused by his speech, gave him a standing ovation. A witness later said, "I have heard Clay speak and many fantastic men, but never have I heard a speech as impressive as that." [citation needed] While this is anecdotal, it is a 6 commonly accepted fact that Lincoln's wife gave Douglass Lincoln's favorite walking stick which still rests in Cedar Lodge. This is both a testimony to the success of Douglass' tribute to Lincoln and also to the effect and influence of his powerful oratory. Reconstruction era After the Civil War, Douglass held several important political positions. He served as President of the Reconstruction-era Freedman's Savings Bank; as marshal of the District of Columbia; as minister-resident and consul-general to the Republic of Haiti (1889...

James Watt

In 1763 John Andreson asked him to repair an early steam engine he had bought. This early model, known as a Newcomen engine, was very unefective. The cylinder (where the piston was) had to be heated when steam was admitted, and then cooled again to condense the steam. This wasted a lot of time and fuel. Two years later, while walking through Glasgow Green, Watt hit upon the idea of condensing the steam in a separate place. This removed the need for heating and cooling, making the engine faster, safer, and it used a lot less fuel. A stone in Glasgow Green marks this spot, where the industrial revolution really began. Watt's engines were initially used for pumping water from copper mines. Later, the new cotton mills, which had been built near fastflowing...
