Idiom story

Sally woke up in the morning; she looked at the clock and realized that she has been late to the work. She shook a leg - took a shower, grabbed a sandwich, hopped into her car and drove away. Then she almost ran over a stranger man. She braked the car and blew the horn. Then she realized that it was Michael, a nice handsome guy from the beach party at last weekend. If it's not one thing, it's another. She stooped out of the car window to apologize. She had to hurry but wanted to be nice and polite. She said, "Sorry, Michael I didn't noticed you, are you okay?" "Yes, but I will be better if you'll come out with me tonight, would you?" asked Michael. "Sure!" "Well, then I'll come and pick you up at 7pm!" Then Sally drove away, thinking about what she had done. She promised yesterday to her 10-years old daughter that she will watch a movie with her and now

picture in our brain, based on personal knowledge and experience. In other words the processes of perception is essentially affected by our expectations and probability in perceiving the world. Therefore conceptually driven perceptual processing is called a top- down process due to the indirect process that involves making assumptions about the world. 1 05144023 However, another theory of visual perception is called bottom-up/data driven processes Gibson (1979). As the major bottom-up theorist, he argues that perception is a direct process, determined by the information presented to the sensory receptors. In other words, perceptions starts with light reflected by objects which creates an optic array containing all the visual information from the environment to the eye as a stationary perceiver

What I Think of Homereading

and I don't mean foreign language but also native language. We can learn many new ways of saying things and so we can make our writing and talking much colorful by variety of words. I think that is very important for us to learn new words because if we hear them from news, tv, radio or read them from newspaper, magazine we know the meaning of the word. Knowing variety of words also shows our intelligence. Reading in foreign language is the one of the best ways to learn another language. For example, if someone goes to England or America they hear the language, but the words sound much different than they are written. That's why reading in another language is very important. The reader sees how the words are written. Also many new words are found in texts. It is not hard to translate them and find out what they mean. There are options in internet to see the meaning of the word, to see it in sentence and also translate it to another language.

Advantages and disadvantages of living in the countryside

The air is fresh and the surroundings green. This is because the countryside is free from pollution, land or noise pollution. Living in the countryside has a lot of advantages, but also many disadvantages. The places where people live affects greatly in their lifestyles and living places is one of the very basic needs for people. Firstly you are fit and you don't need to worry about your health condition, because in the countryside the air and water are so clean. Another additional advantage is that there aren't any huge blocks of flats, modern skyscrapers or bothersome traffic jams. Living in the country is slower. People don't need to hurry and have a lot of time. The living cost in a country side is much lesser than that of a city. Most important advantage of living in the city is that it provides better education and career prospects. People in the cities are always under pressure and stress, they always have to be up to date with

For and against studying abroad

It is always nice to have a place to stay when you accidentally end up in Japan or Australia for a few days. Being an exchange student is also a fabulous chance for travelling. Getting to know a new country so well is definitely not possible during a holiday or a short visit. Besides living in a new culture for a long period of time will teach you more about the culture than reading any book about it. Studying abroad is also a great way to master another language. When you suddenly find yourself immersed in a world where everyone speaks another language, you may find yourself immersed in a world where everyone else speaks another language; you may be scared out of your mind. But this wears off and before you know it you'll be fluent. An exchange student will also get more independent. When you study abroad, there is no going home to your parents, when you feel lonely or need to get your dirty laundry washed. You are on your own

Capital punishment should be abolished

Capital punishment is a form of punishment where a person's life is taken. Capital punishment has been abolished in Estonia since the year 1998, but the last man was executed in 1991. One of the reasons for not abolishing capital punishment are that a life long sentence is not as effective as execution, and that the death penalty affirms the right to life by punishing those who violate it in the most serious form. For example: death penalty should exist for serial killers. Another reason is that the criminals who would have been executed are now the country's responsibility and they use taxpayers' money. On the other hand, capital punishment is very inhumane. After the execution new evidence may appear and the criminal might turn out to be innocent but there is nothing to do because we can not bring back the dead. Another reason for abolishing capital punishment is the criminal's innocent family. The whole process can bring them serious trauma for years

Every person should train each day

Every person should train each day Many people are training every day and the other people just watch and ask ,,Isn't that bad?". Yes, there are negative things about that, but mostly it is because you work out too hard and then the good things fade away. The biggest positive thing about training is that your body looks good. You feel more comfortable in it when you know you've worked very hard to get it. Another good thing about training every day is that you feel more energized. Usually you wake up in the morning and feel very tired, but when you go on a daily run, it wakes you up and you feel a lot better during the day. Some people think that it is bad for your health to train daily, but I disagree. Studies have shown that people who train are more healthy and they don't get ill as often as other people. There might be few negative things when you train each day, but it's usually

Pros and Cons of the European Union

The European Union is a unique partnership between 27 democratic countries in the Europe. The European Union has brought peace and economic prosperity to Europe. The European Union helps a lot of countries and many Europe countries wish to be EU members. But is it really useful to join into the union? The European Union has a lot of pros, but there are also some cons. On the one hand, the European Union gives benefits to Member States. Firstly, it is easy to travel from one Member State to another, live, study or even work there. Secondly, there is no need to change money because most Member States use Euro as the common currency. Thirdly, thanks to the European Union food products became safer and phone calls to European countries cheaper. Furthermore, if somebody has own company, it is easy for him to offer his products and services in other Union countries. Finally, all of the countries work together to protect the environment and to fight against the global problems, such as terrorism

Etta James elulugu inglise keeles

James began listening to doo-wop and was inspired to form a girl group, called the Creolettes. After that, she met musician Johnny Otis. Nonetheless, Otis took the group under his wing, helping them sign to Modern Records and changing their name from The Creolettes to the Peaches. He also gave the singer her stage name Etta James. The success gave the group an opening spot on Little Richard’s national tour. Etta decided to leave the group. After leaving The Peaches she had another RnB hit. Her debut album At Last was released in late 1960. In early 1961 James released what was to become her signature song „At Last“. Though the song was not as successful as expected, it has become the most remembered song. In 1963 she had another major hit with „Pushover“. After a couple years scoring minor hits, James’ career started to suffer after 1965, but she continued to chart in the RnB top40 in the early 1970s. Following this brief success, however, she

- provides information about what really happens in the world - reasoning not based on demonstration but observation and experience - Experience can only give un information about what an object is like now or what it was like in the past but not what it is going to be like in the future - eg. the bread which a ate in the past nourished me ie. a body of such sensible qualities had at that time such secret powers. But that doesn't mean that another body with the same sensible qualities as bread has to have the same secret powers at another time. - it is not true that things which look similar will produce the same effects. - This is because the course of nature may always change and therefore, also the effects of things may change. - "It is impossible that any arguments from experience can prove the resemblance of the past to the future, since all these arguments are founded on the supposition of that resemblance."

said that the main priority at the moment is to clean up the mess and to catch all the chickens before they make more damage. I caught a witness, a photographer Jane Lens, who was at the scene when it all happened. I asked her, why did the accident happen, she said that the farmer was obviously driving too fast. And she also made a photo to confirm that. Next witness I caught was Amanda Doogood, the Mellowtown librarian, who told that truck driver were driving absolutely too fast. Another eyewitness was a window washer Juan Sanchez, who was cleaning the windows. I asked also his comment, he said that he was washing windows and he did not saw why truck crashed. As window washer did not noticed something I caught another witness, a student at Mellowtown High School Dick Learner and his dog Spot who went crazy. Dick Learner said that truck was driving too fast and crates on top were moving, so in his point of view truck driver did not lock crates right on the back of his truck

Ways of using the money to benefit the environment and the..

To: Mark Clooney From: Marju Villmann Subject: Ways of using the money to benefit the environment and the local community. Date: 15th December Purpose The purpose of this proposal is to make recommendations regarding the best ways to use the money to benefit the environment and the local community. Local concerns It would be a good idea to put money on animal pounds. This would mean that people can walk on streets without frightening homeless animals. One another suggestion would be to use this money to arrange parks and children's playgrounds. In this way, there will be a good place where to walk and play. Moreover, children could play in a protected place. Another good solution would be to buy christmas decorations. By doing this, the city will be beautiful and people will always be in a good mood and they also will be happier. Conclusion On the whole, I believe that if we consider some of the suggestions above, we will able to

Essay about museums

Nowadays there are many museums in every country and almost in every city. Despite that people still do not visit museums as much as doing other activities. What might be the reasons of this? There are certain arguments in favour of visiting museums. The first important advantage of museums is that it educates and broadens your mind. For example, when you go to visit the exhibition, you learn more about the painter and the story behind the picture. Another advantage of museums is that it represents the country. As a result tourists become more aware of our country. On the other hand, there are people who are against of visiting museums. The main drawback of this is that museums cost a lot of money. As a result, many people can not afford to go to the museum. Another disadvantage of visiting museums is that they might be boring. Therefore it is a waste of money and time.

Greec wedding traditions

It all starts with raising a wedding flag at the groom's house. Then people come with the flag to the bride's house, where the bride's mother offers the groom wine and herbs for his lapel. After that the bride leaves for church with one male relative and the rest of the quests follow her to church on foot. It is also a custom that the bride's male relatives slap the groom on his back, it is known as a way of welcoming the groom into the family. Another tradition before the weddings is a "baby rolling" tradition. During this thing the friends' and relatives' babies are being gently rolled from one side to another on the matrimonial bed. The bed is also strewn with rose petals, coins and sugar-coated almonds. It is all supposed to bring fertility, happiness and prosperity to the new marriage. Of course the well known tradition of groom not seeing his bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony is considered bad luck in Greece too.

Should we first discover our homeland before going abroad?

hardly reachable that half of the locals wont access these parts of the country never in their whole lifetime. I am certain that no one should waste their life on acting like someone has said to be right instead of acting by your own desires. Furthermore, if you have lived in your homeland for your entire lifetime, you should be wise enough to know about the culture, nature and geographical aspects even if you have not been in every part of the country. That is an another reason why travelling to other countries without knowing your whole homeland should be very welcome.

In your advert you also claim that the product will be delivered within 10 days, but it took 3 weeks until I got it. I had to buy another gift for my friend. Halva naabrusega tulenevad probleemid ja lahendused

In our hectic daily lives, what are filled with work and family we often forget our neighbourhood. It is said, that the neighbourhood is a reflection of the peole who live there. And if it is filled with dust and rubbish, what should others think? Some strict measurements should be taken in order to solve dispution between neighbours for a better neighbourhood. A useful suggestion would be to communicate with your neighbours. A good relationship between one another is beneficial for everyone especially for the neighbourhood. This would lead to neighbours helping each other clean the vicinity. Another way to keep your neighbourhood tidy is to start from yourself. Keep your things in order, your dog on a leash . By doing this and suggesting others to do it aswell would keep the neighbourhood nice and clean. It would help if you could maintain peace and quiet. Don't run your machinery in the early mornings

Life away from home may be alluring but hard

The best thing about living away from home is that you have more freedom. You can set your own rules, stay up late, invite friends to your place and have parties whenever you want, but you need to be mature enough to handle it. Disadvantage is that you may feel homesick. Another disadvantage is that you will have to pay rent, bilss, and buy your own food which will definitely affect you in the financial aspect. Finally, another aspect is convenience. You will not have many things that you used to have at home. You will have less free time for other activities because you will spend more time doing housework, balancing the budget and organizing things by yourself. In conclusion, even though living away from home can be good since it gives you a feeling of freedom and autonomy, living at home has more advantages contrasted with it.

[19][20] According to VH1's Driven, whenever competitors learned they would be up against her in any given week, they would immediately withdraw, prompting insiders to claim it was "like sending a lamb to the slaughter." Her peers soon became jealous of her and would frequently subject her to ridicule, ostracism, and, in one gym class, attempted assault. Acts of vandalism around her house included the slashing of the tires on the family car. Eventually, the family relocated to another suburb in the Pittsburgh area (this time, Wexford) and took to secrecy about Aguilera's talent lest another backlash occur.[21] She attended Marshall Middle School near Wexford and North Allegheny Senior High School until she was later home-schooled. On March 15, 1990, she appeared on Star Search singing Etta James' "A Sunday Kind of Love", but lost the competition. Soon after losing on Star Search, she returned home and

Most needed professions in 21st century in Estonia

Nowadays there is growing demand in highly qualified workers and not only in big empires but also in smaller countries like Estonia. In Estonia the most needed professions are connected with computers, different hi-tech machines and healthcare. Firstly, in my opinion the biggest deficit is in doctors. The main reason for that might be that the studies take a lot of time, sometimes about 10 years, which means that we can start working at the age of 28 to 30. Another reason could be that doctors are in my opinion very often underpaid and with that comes up another problem. In hope to get bigger salaries they often go abroad leaving our small independent country without highly qualified doctors. Secondly, nowadays our environment is more and more connected to technology. A lot of factories are using more robots and sundry machines that help factories to speed up their producing rates. For

England - Art and Culture

specific projects that are designed to engender such creativity amongst the local population. Examples of this type of initiative are the Tate Liverpool and the Tate Modern in London. But museums and galleries are not the only homes of art. Sculptures and art festivals also testify to the creative genius of England. Sculptures range from ancient figures of historical import to life- size bronze carvings of human beings (such as exist on the roof of De la Warr Pavilion in Bexhill or the Another Place exhibition on Crosby Beach, Liverpool). One of the largest art festivals is held in Birmingham and is called Artsfest. The artistic talents being showcased range from classical music and song to traditional dancing and stand-up comedy. This festival is usually held in September. Theatre is another very important part of the English culture and is, in fact, one of the reasons people visit the country. Theatrical shows, such as Cats,

For and against capital punishment

Capital punishment as death penalty is the killing of a person by judical process for retribution and incapacitation. And it has advantages and disadvantages. The main advantage of capital punishment is that it permanently removes the worst criminals from society and should prove much safer for the rest of us. It is self- evident that dead criminals cannot commit any further crimes, either within prison or after escaping or being released from it. Another advantage of capital punishment is that country can have minor costs in prison. In other words, the country may very well better spend our (limited) resources on the old, the young and the sick etc., rather than on the long term imprisonment of murderers, rapists, etc. However, there are a number of incontrovertible arguments against the death penalty. The most important disadvantage of capital punishment is the virtual certainty

State and public education

In Estonia the most of children attend state schools. However, in the last ten years the number of private schools has increased. What are the main differences between private and state secondary schools? Firstly, private schools are not free and parents ought to pay for their children is learning in a public school. But state schools are free and parents do not have to pay for education. Secondly, private schools are more strict than state schools. Another vital aspect is that public schools have a more strict evaluation system and there is a lot of homework. However when we compare state and public schools then it is seen that the results of examinations for students of private schools are higher than in state schools. On the one hand i know that well-off families prefer public education because it will give their children more opportunities. On the other hand when a lot of children learn in private schools then may be in the future

Rural versus Urban

It may look very exciting to an urban people but it may seem boring to rural people. So, good thing about living in city is that there are probably many more people who you can meet with. Thanks to this there is a bigger possibility that you would find yourself a girlfriend or a boyfriend or just some very good friend. Also when you are an athlete there are usually better conditions to sport. So I think that you can't tell that one society is better than another. I think that people should try both and then decide which one he likes better. And also I think that your opinion may change during the years.

Tourism

Tourism can be very profitable. Especially when the country or an area is attractive and good weather is guaranteed. The most popular places to which people come are mountains, sea or lakes. The advantage of tourism is the mutual cooperation of the tourists and people who are working in this branch. These first can spend their time relaxing themselves. These second earn money. It's said that travel broadens the mind. I think it's true because we can meet another people and visit various places all over the world. We can find out more about foreign cultures and traditions or languages. In this sense traveling can be an instructive experience. On the other hand, tourism can be really destructive for the environment. Nowadays people want to be everywhere in the African jungle or in the depth of the sea. In this way they are interfering in the

Political parties in the US

more conservative. There are other, smaller parties in the United States besides the two major parties. None of these smaller parties, however, has enough popular support to win a presidential election. Americans do not have to join a political party in order to vote or to be a candidate for a public office. Whether or not they belong to a party, voters may cast ballots for any candidate they wish. Everyone votes in secret, and no one can know how another votes or force another person to vote for any particular program or candidate.

Sports Centre

much more. When you just want to take a time out you can take a steam bath, a regular sauna or just relax in a bubble bath. To me jyri sports centre has only one disadvantage. That you have to pay for these things which the sports centre includes. I find this as a disadvantage because in these hard times I do not have the luxury to go swimming or visit the gym, but again what is the price for your health? My suggestion to end these high prices is to build another sports centre to jyri. So the current sports centre will have some competition and they have to lower the prices to keep their clients and then the old sports centre can be the average Joe's sports centre and the people will have more different hobbies and things to choose from if we had another sports centre. In conclusion the sports centre is a good place to get fit and spend your time. Only the prices are high for the common man. So I stick to train myself at the stadium.

Buying on credit

Another important benefit is ability to handle expenses that might be out of one´s reach. In case of an emergency, such as car breakdown or illness, it is very useful. Despite of great advantages, people should keep in mind it`s downsides. A credit card leads people to unresponsible spending. Buying goods that are off someone´s limit causes problems with paying back the balance each month. It is possible in this kind of situation that people windup spending more than an item is really worth. Another negative side is credit card frauds. They only need a number of the card to accomplish his evil intentions with the money. Buying on credit becomes more and more popular. Consumers should definitely try out this kind of payment. Mass tourism

restore monuments and other objects of histoical value. An additional advantage of mass tourism is mixing of cultures and habits, for example, many different food cultures and clothing styles are spreading all over the world. The main drawbacks of mass tourism are damage of the natural environment as visitors often leave a lot of litter in the countryside. In addition, they prevent local people from living peaceful and quiet life. Another negative effect of mass tourism is if the cultures mix too intensely, for instance, old traditions of local people are destroyed if tourists are changing them by time. An additional disadvantage of tourism is prices. When the loacation is popular then all kind of entertainment companies rise their prices. Taking everything into consideration, mass tourism has both advantages and disadvanages. However, it seems that local communities can benefit so much from it that the threats of mass
