A New Beginning

A NEW BEGINNING It was a dark and a silent night, when two young riders dressed within black rushed across the Devil`s Field. Suddenly one of them stopped and glanced at the moonless sky. His horse felt nervous, imitating the feelings of his rider. The other man seized his horse as well and looked at his companion in a curious way. After a minute or two spent in abnormal silence the first rider cried out as loud as he could: "Run!" The second man jumped off his horse and rushed to the forest that was waiting some meters ahead. But then he remembered about the other rider, but when he turned the Devil`s Field was empty. His companion was gone as well the horses. The man was seriously scared now, but since he was one of the Royal Solders fear was not allowed to be shown in public. So he drew his half-iron, half-silver sword and decided to go back to the field, but then he thought: "Alec told me to...

The New Beginning II

The New Beginning II Morning came yet there was no happiness on the surface. The young man had no idea what to do next after all, he was one of the Royal Soldiers, not a babysitter. The child on his arms seemed so helpless...so innocent... And then he decided something that a few hours ago he`d never do: he will keep the child and raise it to be a worthy worrior who`d once destroy all of the ishues and free this country from the Demons. And so, the baby still asleep, he left the ruins of what was called a city once and moved towards east, where the Royal Palace was situated. By midday he finally reached the White Wall, where was a secret entrance to the Palace`s main hall. The gate keepers waved sleepily when he passed them. The young man decided not to disturb them so he went on in total silence. Soon he reached the main hall, but his leader, captain Jacques, wasn't there as he had expected. "W...

Film review - Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot ,,Billy Elliot" is a movie directed by Stephen Daldry, which is amazingly touching and shouldn't be missed by anyone. When I first found out we were going to watch a film in our English class, at the beginning I was very sceptic, but after the first 15 minutes I already liked it. In fact, I ended up loving this film. This movie inspires lot's of young people to follow their dreams no matter how far they might have to reach and how difficult it might look in the beginning. The main character is this 11-year-old boy named Billy, played by Jamie Bell. His life is quite miserable as he lives in a small town with his father and an older brother. His father forces

Terrorism and fighting against it

Terrorism and fighting against it Terrorism is not new and even though it has been used since the beginning of recorded history it can be relatively hard to define. Terrorism has been described differently as both a tactic and strategy; a crime and a holy duty; a justified reaction to oppression and an unforgivable abomination. Obviously, a lot depends on whose point of view it is being represented. Terrorism has often been an effective tactic for the weaker side in a conflict. Terrorism is most common in nations with the average political freedom, and is least common in the most democratic nations.

It's held on 3 or 4 of February which isone day before the beginning of spring according to Japanese lunar calendar. This day was to chase away the evil spirits from the winter. This holiday is not very popular anymore although some people still decorate their houses with holy tree leaves and fish heads. In the 13th century it was a popular custom, people belived that the smell of burning trees and the sound of drums would scare the spirits away. Nowadays it's more common to throw rosted beans into houses, temples an shrines

A multilingual internet?

A multilingual internet? English seems to be everywhere and that's why it might make us think that everyone in the world speaks English. If this were true, it would bring benefits for worldwide communication, but it also may become a threat to cultural diversity. It is said that about 75% of the pages on the Web are in English but only 12% of the world's population can communicate well in English. The position of English is beginning to change. Both Europe and Asia are growth areas and are conducting e-business. Companies are beginning to realise that they will have to translate their websites for their various customers. Businesses all over the world are now faced with a huge challenge creating a multilingual website. It is not an easy task because different cultures have different needs. Companies doing e-business simply need time to translate their sites into the various languages necessary to do business

War on terror

The War on Terror is an international military campaign led by the United States and the United Kingdom with the support of other NATO and non-NATO countries. Officially, the War on Terror label has not been used since Barack Obama came to office in 2009, but the war in Afghanistan continues. The campaign was launched in 2001 with the US/UK invasion of Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks. Since then, other operations have commenced, the largest being the War in Iraq, beginning with a 2003 invasion. Originally, it was waged against al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations with the purpose of eliminating them. The phrase War on Terror was first used by former US President George W. Bush and other high-ranking US officials to denote a global military, political, legal and ideological struggle against organizations designated as terrorist and regimes that were accused of having a connection to them or providing them with support or were

The climate in Estonia As in other northern countries, seasons varie widely in Estonia. The length of the longest day in summer is over 19 hours, while the shortest winter day lasts only 6 hours. It is not completely dark at night from the beginning of May until the end of July. Estonia, on the coast of the Baltic Sea, is at the same latitude in Europe as central Sweden and the northern tip of Scotland. In North America, the middle latitude of Estonia passes through the Labrador peninsula and southern coast of Alaska. The Catcher in the Rye - kokkuvõte

The Catcher in the Rye Despite being written in the beginning of the 1950s, for me “The Catcher in the Rye” is a novel that many youngsters to this day can relate to. The book tells the story of a troubled teenager Holden Caulfield, who sets off on a short trip to New York, after being expelled from yet another private school, to avoid facing his parents. His dark and at times depressive thoughts and emotions have been mixed with humour and brutal reality, making this book stirring to read.

He formed one kingdom called England. 9) The powerful Saxon king Alfred the Great made London the capital of the country at the end of the 9th century. 10) In the 9th century the Vikings attacked London. 11) William the Conqueror was the Duke of Normandy, who in 1066 took the British throne as William I. important architectural monument. This castle is built of limestone. The roof is made of red stone. The construction of the stronghold was closely connected with the Estonians fight against the German feudals. The first documented data about Kuressaare castle originate only from 1380s. Kuressaare castle remained the residence for the bishops of Saare-Lääne Bishopric until the beginning of the Livonian War. At the end of the XIV and the beginning of the XV century the castle was surrounded by a new mighty 625 m long and 7 m high belt of walls, erected around the old belt of walls dating from the XIII century. The necessity to improve the defence of the castle was due to the invention and usage of firearms. The old parts of the walls have been preserved in the new earthwork and bastions even today. In the middle of the XV century the wall was made higher and cannon towers were built. The most

Things did get better between them after Jankowski schooled the circuses new starRosie the elephant, for which August was grateful. Modern Hero

ones we are left are fictional. Another thing that has changed during centuries is the motivation of a hero. It used to be about simply doing something good for others or helping out your nation but nowadays it has become more personal. In almost all of modern heroic movies or stories there is a love interest (usually a she). Generally she is a beautiful fit woman to whom the hero falls in love with, sometimes at first sight (for example Batman). During the beginning of their relationship or the time when they learn to know each other the woman is kidnapped and held hostage and the plot of the story is usually about saving her. The happy ending also includes a final kiss and thought that they'll grow old together. The interesting thing is that the love interest and the hero don't have to get along at the beginning but they'll learn to like each other. There are more heroes than we could ever count. The old ones differ from the modern ones

Character sketch - Sal Paradise, On the Road by Jack Kerouac

Sal and Dean. Before Sal met Dean he was quite reserved and shy, but later Sal becomes almost as outgoing as his new friend. Sal is inspired by the wildness that is in Dean Moriarty and wishes to be brave like him. Sal sees Dean as his hero and role model thus overlooking Dean's faults and protecting him when others call Dean crazy. Dean makes many mistakes throughout the novel, but Sal quickly forgives him and everything starts from the beginning. In some ways Sal envies the madness of Dean, but is unable to replicate it himself, unless he is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Sal and women. The beginning of On the Road already gives away that Sal is not good with women and this is proven many times in the book. Sal sees women as a way to be pleasured and entertained. Moreover, Sal goes along with Dean's crazy ideas to pick up girls whenever and wherever possible, but tends to leave them like Dean as well

commercially recorded music genre, and began to enter the American mainstream. It also began its spread across the world. In the 1990s, a form called gangsta rap became a major part of American music, causing significant controversy over lyrics which were perceived by some as promoting violence, promiscuity, drug use and misogyny. Nevertheless, hip hop continued to increase in popularity, and by the year 2000, it was a staple of popular music charts. In the 1990s, gangsta rap became mainstream, beginning in 1992, with the release of Dr. Dre's The Chronic. This album established a style called G Funk, which soon came to dominate West Coast hiphop. Other artists such as Tupac Shakur (a.k.a. 2Pac), who would start his rapping career in 1991, would dominate in the 90s (before being shot and killed in a drive-by in 1996) becoming the highest selling rapper ever with over 75,000,000 albums sold world wide and played a major role in the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry

Simple Plan.

Jeff. When Pierre again joined that band as a lead vocalist, Simple Plan was formed. They recorded only a few demos, when they got a contract with Lava Records. They gained a lot of attention with their first hit "I'm Just a Kid". Bands first album, "No Pads, No Helmets ... Just Balls", rose to the top of charts on 19th March 2002, on the day it was released. Over 2 million copies of that record were sold. Simple Plan has performed with very many bands, beginning with Rancid and ending with Aerosmith. They have also taken part in three Vans Warped tours, whereas in two of them they were the main performers and they have won MTV Video Music Awards. In 2003, Pierre and Chuck spent a lot time in Vancouver, writing songs for their next album. future life of the farm. At first they managed to follow the rules but suddenly one of the pigs, Napoleon, decided that he wanted more power. He made Snowball, who was the leader before him, leave the farm and usurped the power. All of the animals were brainwashed. Napoleon was a good manipulator and made animals do everything he wanted them to. He and some other pigs moved to the farmhouse although it was agreed from the beginning that no animal should go in there. Pigs also slept in the beds and did other things that they were not actually supposed to. Pigs were smarter than other animals, so they secretly changed the seven commandments and tricked the others so that they did not understand what was going on. Napoleon acted like a cruel dictator and changed the life on the farm into chaos. In the real world it is all the same. At first people who want power promise different

In 1911, the first Estonian operetta, Adalbert Wirkhaus' "St. John's Night" was staged. In 1926 , choreographer Rahel Olbrei founded the permanent ballet troupe in the theatre, the ballet became more regular in the 1930s. In 1994--2009 the theater was managed by Paul Himma, since 1 September 2009 the general manager is Aivar Mäe. Tallinn City Theatre This theatre was founded in 1965 named Youth Theatre, but from the beginning it was a regular drama company, with only slightly more plays for the children than in the other theatres. The objective of its first leader Voldemar Panso was to change the unnatural situation, created in Stalinist times, of Tallinn having only one Estonian-language drama theatre. In the beginning the theatre used the big stage of a Soviet-style "palace of culture". In 1975 a 100-seat stage was opened in the 15th-century house in the old-town centre of Tallinn. After Panso the company was

A letter of complaint.

5 December 2010 8 All Saints St., Mayflower, London N1 9RL UK Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to complain about a faulty CD-walkman and your shop assistant's unprofessional behaviour. In the first place, I am not happy with my new CD-walkman. It played only on a steady surface. It also played the first three songs only and then started from the beginning. In addition to that, when I returned to the shop for help the shop assistant was very arrogant and did not provide me any help at all. I would, therefore, like you to return my money or replace my CD-walkman immediately and also talk with the shop assistant about her behaviour. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours faithfully, Merit Vislapu

Educating Rita

Educating Rita In my opinion "Educating Rita" was a pretty good movie and I enjoyed watching it. I think that "Educating Rita" is an educational film. In my opinion the principle of the film, is to say that learning and knowing literature can be useful, you will get smarter and more educated. The movie also says that literature is really not as uninteresting as it seems and it can be quite gripping. At the beginning of the film Rita didn't knew about literature, she knew much less than average person, but at the end, she was so fond of literature and she knew much more than average person and she was more educated than ever. Literature isn't as boring as it seems and it helps moving toward in life. "Educating Rita" was a good movie and I learned that literature has an important role in life.
