Monument to the Conquerors of Space!

Monument to the Conquerors of Space! Built in 1964 just at the entrance to the All-Russias evhibition, teh VDNKh, this is an extraordinary monument housing a full museum in the mound beneath. It is all clad in shiny stainless steel. In March 1958, a few months after the launch of Sputnik 1, a competition was announced for the best design of an obelisk celebrating the dawn of the Space Age. Out of some 350 proposals, the design by sculptor A.P. Faidysh-Krandievsky and architects A.N. Kolchin and M.O. Barshch was chosen. The grand opening of the monument took place on October 4, 1964, on the day of the 7th anniversary of the Sputnik 1 launch. Since the 1960s, this part of Moscow in general has had a high concentration of space- themed sights and names: besides the monument and the museum under it, the grand

Should space exploration be a priority

Space exploration should be a priority Since the beginning of time people have wondered about what's really hidden behind the clouds and what goes on there. Before people had the technology to study space, they tried to make sense of the universe with the help of religion. Luckily thanks to the great interest in the subject, the first manned spaceflight happened on April 12, 1961 by the Soviet Union, with cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin aboard. Travelling in space could become very important and useful for people on earth in case something happens to our planet. Many things could happen since humans are taking advantage of earth's natural resources like oil and building dangerous factories that produce toxic waste. With space travel we could find planets that have the material to replace our resources and maybe get rid of the toxic waste we no longer have room here. Besides that, a war could break out

CARS – Create a Research Space

CARS – Create a Research Space 1. uurimisvaldkond ( + toetav info). Määrad ära, milline on töö teema/valdkond. Tuuakse esile olulisemad asjaolud. Sellest peaks saama ühe lõigu kirjutatud, võib kirjutada ka mitu lehekülge/raamatut. 2. Luuakse nišš (nt kontrast, erinevad valimid). Project Plan

Project Plan Bellacoola The Bella Coola Development Study merges community requirements for the envisioned facility and the alternative approaches to building on the Bella Coola Northern Pointe site. Consultants’ reports regarding structural considerations and tree evaluation are included for their continued application to the problem. An effort has been made to work with the full extent of space requirements currently voiced by the Western Division Management Center and the Bella Coola Village Organization. Other organizations were queried to form the basis of judgment in determining the overall need. This recognizes that as the program development progresses, tenant requirements may change, but the essential square footage and cubic limitations for a below grade structure will remain. In addition, it has been envisioned that jointly

The space age in the next 50 years

The space age in the next 50 years The space age began about 50 years ago with the launch of sputnik, the first man-made object in space. Since then, spaceflight technologies have grown up. Within the 50 years we have achieved much in the spacelife, such as landing on the moon etc. Things what were impossible 50 years ago are nowdays reality. But what will happen in the next 50 years? In the first place people will be able to take trips into the space. And that`s predicted to be happening in short time through the Virgin Galactic, which plans to provide sub-orbital spaceflights to the paying public. Currently about several hundred people have already booked a seat on that plane, which costs $200 000 per person. What is more that by 50 years time I think that we will have found life on other planets. As there are proofs that there once were a water on Mars so it`s likely thath life has existed there.

My dream vacation

My dream vacation I would travel with a person who is similar to me, is in great shape,is interested in science and is durable. We would travel to u.s.a with a private jet and travel to nasa with a car. Then we would travel to space with a space rocket.we would go to a space station which is hovering 360 km above Earth.we would stay in space for one month because it is too expensive to travel between Earth and space.we would get around by flying in the space station because there is zero gravity in space. There can by some curious incidents while we are in space like the sun rising behind the Earth.

The Great Fire kokkuvõte

The great Fire The Great Fire of London of September 1666 was one of the moost famous incidents in Stuart England. It was the second tragedy to hit the city in the space of 12 months. The fire started in Pudding Lane. The fire started in a baker's shop owned by Thomas Farriner who was the king's baker. His maid failed to put out the ovens at the end of the night. Once it started, the fire spread quickly. The city was basically made out of wood and with September following on from the summer, the city was very dry. Strong winds fanned the flames. In 1665, during the plague, the king, Charles II, had fled in London. His plan, in 1666 (he stayed

Suggested improvements to shop

To: Clara Philipp From: .................. Subject: Suggested improvements to shop Date: 1st April 2011 Introduction The purpose of this report is to make recommendations for possible improvements in the shop. Advertising To begin with, it would be a good idea to think about buying advertising space on local television stations or radio stations. Moreover, we should distribute flyers around our local community, newspaper inserts or on community bulletin boards. In this way the public knows that our shop exists and we will have larger circle of customers. Online Store Secondly, I believe we can also expand our shop by opening up an online store. Albeit a large number of consumers like to shop locally, there is still many, who also prefer shopping online,

Wonders of the Modern World

In my opinion the most important so called wonder of the modern world is Internet. It's just because it is so widely used in all over the world. It makes possible to do so many things, of what humankind half a century ago couldn't even dream of. It's only a matter of time, when there will be even more interactivity between the user and the website, like for example allowing us to give instructions to the website using speech. Second wonder in modern world would be space travel. Since Neil Armstrong stepped out of his space capsule onto the surface of the moon in 1969, there have been many space probes to several different planets and even to the sun. So far, there has not been found any intelligent life in the universe, but who knows what the future holds. International travel is also something that has changed the modern world. People can now easily travel from one end of the world to another, in quite a short time too. It is

Life in the future

Life in the future In the domain of technology, robots will have replaced people in factories. Many factories already use robots. Big companies prefer robots- they do not ask for pay rises or go on strike, and they work 24 hours a day. By 2050, we will see robots everywhere- in factories, schools, offices, hospitals, shops and homes. In the 2050 every human have an opportunity to go on space travel, because space travels will cost less. Even the poor people can allow this. Schooling will be much better and cheaper (in the long run) in 2050. The word ,,school" will no longer be in our vocabulary. School will be called a ,,work force". There will be no more textbooks, paper, pens or pencils. Everything will be done electronically. Classes will be conjoyned together such as, English and History, Math and Science, etc. School will be more interesting and fun, plus school days will be shorter.

Improved Windows for Cold Climates

The background for using windows with improved energy performance is the need to reduce the en-ergy consumption in buildings. Since the heat loss through windows often represents half the total heat loss from houses, much energy can be saved by developing and using better windows with respect to energy performance. The main purpose of having windows in houses is that they provide daylight and view, but windows also provide solar gain that can be utilized as a contribution to the space heating in the building. Therefore the windows also have a positive influence on the energy balance of buildings. To evaluate the possibilities for developing better windows with respect to energy performance when used in Nordic and arctic climates, seven different window types have been examined in terms of the net energy gain and simulations of the energy consumption in buildings with focus on domestic houses. A large part of the energy consumption in countries in Nordic and Arctic

Will you take your places, please?" said one of the stuff members. "Sure!" answered Matrix and they left the stage. In the meanwhile Alice had made a new friend Sheila. That was the woman's name she'd met earlier. When the lights went off, Alice and Sheila went to the performers hall. If was full of people, students mostly, but some grown-ups were at present as well. "Oh, there's Mat! My brother! I must go now" said Alice and ran off. Sheila waved and went to her band the Space Dolls. Matrix was standing, not even noticing Alice. When she was close enough, she jumped and climbed onto Mat's neck, so he automatically hugged her. When he realized what he was doing he laughed. So did the other Ravens, Daemon even clapping his hands. "Well, you two sure are close!" commented Faith, the drummer and the second vocalist. Alice let go of her brother and hugged one by one every band member, finishing with Daemon

The Swiss National Science Foundation, mandated by the Federal government, is the most important institute promoting scientific research. The raw output of scientific research from Switzerland consistently ranks within the top 20. For example, it has a well known astronomy and space program. Switzerland Space Agency, the Swiss Space Office, has been involved in various space technologies and programs. In addition it was one of the 10 founders of the European Space Agency in 1975. Switzerland is one of the leading countries in computer applications. Natural disasters

But sadly, all too often they will unknowingly navigate their ships straight into a tremendous whirlpool. As the trapped schooners swirl helplessly into these black holes of the seas, they are lost forever. It is believed that they end up in some alternate dimension, but this is only theory at this time. We can only hope to one day locate, and contain all the whirlpools in the expansive oceans of our world. Speaking of worlds, we come to our last natural disaster: meteors. These missiles from space are sent, by some unknown force, hurtling through space into our planet. Often these meteoroids are burned away by our own natural meteor defence, the atmosphere. But sometimes, the atmosphere is not enough to defeat these icy space boulders, and they will come crashing into Earth causing destruction on a worldwide scale. Earthquakes and tidal waves are being released upon the world to wreak havoc are often the after effects. The

Which is more important-sport or science?

a morale booster for the masses? The sheer volume of money spent each year on sports are actually absolutely ridiculous. Sports have become a monster that is beyond our control. This happens as legitimate scientific research struggles to find funding or a struggle along with tiny handouts from patronising governments around the world. Space exploration is probably the prime example in that it is now, at this stage of human development, more important than ever before that we find ways to make space inhabitable. But instead NASA has become a bit of a joke to the public and space exploration the stuff of B- grade horror movies. The question we have to ask ourselves is this, do sports stars really deserve to be paid five times the salary of a scientist? A scientist who is working for the benefit of humankind and, perhaps, in the interest of extending the longevity of our stay in this universe? I am of the opinion that it is beyond a joke, it is no

Hasisi hüüdnimed Eesti narkomaanide seas on plastiliin, tükk, hash ja maroko. Välismaal kutsutakse neid hash, weed(kanep), space(kosmos), medicated(ravim), fabricated(valmistatud), superskunk ja hashishi koogikesi hash brownies, space cake ehk kosmose kook. Kus kasutatakse hasisit?

A Comparative Study of Kanji Dictionaries. ma thesis 2000 Helsinki University Department of Asian and African Languages and Cultures Abstract The current paper is a comparative study on the morphological explanations of the Chinese characters as explained in eight character dictionaries and textbooks. C. S. Peirce sign systems theory is used for describing the morphological space of the Chinese characters. A hypothesis about the possibilities offered by reliable character morphology for explanation of the lexical multivalency of Chinese characters is proposed. Also criteria for judging the quality of available morphological explanations is provided and their shortcomings are being outlined. Finally, as a practical implematation of the above-presented theoretical considerations, a XML database structure with one sample entry for building character database is provided.
