Hagia Sophia

It is famous for the mystical quality of light that reflects everywhere in the interior of the nave. · When the dome was placed atop Hagia Sophia, its weight caused the walls to lean outward, because of the wet mortar underneath. In order to rebuild the dome, Isidore had first build up the interior of the walls, so that they were vertical and supported the weight of the new dome. · The height of the present dome is also approximately twenty feet more than the original structure · The height of the present dome is also approximately twenty feet more than the original structure. · The dome of Hagia Sophia is shaped like a scalloped shell or the inside of an umbrella, with ribs that extend from its top, down to its base. · The unique character of the design of Hagia Sophia shows how it is one of the most advanced and ambitious monuments of late antiquity

How far can we go being tolerant?

normal and healthy life afterwards. I try to be tolerant about gays having untraditional partnerships and think of them as fellow humans and let them live their own lives, but allowing them to raise children is over my line. Moreover, I am even more confused and concerned about the gender roles. A couple of days ago I saw Oprah talk show where there was a man Thomas, who was pregnant. He was born as a woman, but when she was about twenty five, she had the sex change operation but kept his female genitals. So, ten and more years later he was ready to give birth to a baby. Many people present, including Oprah, were tolerant about that and encouraged him, also said that it is very normal and brave thing to do. Thomas got many supporting letters from all over the world and neighbours baked cakes for him and his wife. But I was shocked to the bone by that. Who was he? A man or a woman

Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas He was one of the most popular poets in the 20th century. Thomas grew up in Wales and left school at the age of 16. During his teen years he wrote numerous poems and had his first poem published in 1933. During his career Thomas also wrote short stories, essays, film scripts and one novel. His poems seem to be disorderly, overwhelming outpourings of language. In 1949 he began visiting the US for poetry reading tours, he became a celebrity there. His most famous play "Under Milk Wood". His favourite themes were London in wartime, nature, Wales's culture and identity. Most well known works: "Eighteen poems", "Do not go gentle into that good night", "Twenty-five Poems".

Loch Ness Monster Inglise keeles

Loch Ness Monster Nessie, a giant lake monster, supposedly inhabits Scotland 's Loch (Lake) Ness. Nessie is the world's best-known cryptozoological creature and has been sighted as far back as 656 AD. Nessie is described as being anywhere from twenty to forty feet long, with two humps, a tail and a snakelike head. Nessie's movements have been studied, and many films and photos analyzed, to determine what Nessie might be, if she exists. For the last seventy years or so, since she began receiving regular publicity, Nessie has been a major tourist attraction. There are numerous theories as to Nessie's identity, including a snake- like primitive whale known as a zeuglodon, a long-necked aquatic seal, giant eels,

My ideal school

It is a place where you can feel comfortable to learn in. My ideal school would be situated in the middle of a city so it is near to shops, cinemas and theatres. Around the school would create running tracks, football places and facilities for every sport you could think of. There would also be a huge park for the pupils and public to enjoy together. Each classroom would be fitted with the most modern computers. Only twenty pupils would be in a lesson at one time so that the teachers could pay attention to each pupil. White boards and projectors would be available in every classroom. In my ideal school students would have large amount of technology. I would love for all students to have use the iPads. I think if students get to use something like the iPad it allows students to do work with a fun. To sum up, I think students can study well in this good environment.

This problably influenced her works too. § She returned to England with her mother and studied economics and psychology at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. § Her actual christened name was "Franklin Birkinshaw". which she feels contributed to her being accepted at St Andrews and permitted to study economics: the school assumed she was a male student applicant. Early life § In her early twenties she was briefly married to a man more than twenty years older than her. It is not clear whether she had her first son during this marriage or earlier. § Raising her son as a single mother, she looks back on her twenties as times fraught with "odd jobs and hard times." She worked on the problem page of the Daily Mirror and then as a copywriter for the Foreign Office. She then embarked on an extremely successful career as an advertising copywriter becoming famous for her slogan 'Go to work on an egg'.

Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace Film review I'm a big James Bond films fan. I've seen almost all the films. Quantum of Solace is the twenty-second James Bond film directed by Marc Froster. I watched the film first in the cinema and I was very impressed by that film. In the film James Bond fights for the rights against Dominic Greene, a member of the Quantum organisation. This organisation want to have control of the earth. Bond wants as well a revenge for the death of his lover, Vesper Lynd. He get into Haiti where he met a woman Camille, whose purpose is as well a bloody revenge to Medrano who had killed her family. They fight together for the rights against the enemys. They kill Medrano and Dominic. The acting was very convincing. There were many villains who acted very well. In this film are many speacial effects, violent and a good technology. J...

School should provide computers for students to use for all their school subjects

computerized. Students use computers to make homework. I strongly believe that schools should have computers but there is no need for all the subjects. Firstly, sitting a long time in front of the computer screen is unhealthy. Students' eyes will be dry and they may have headache. It can also have a negative effect on students' moods. In addition, computer labs' maintenance is expensive. One which can be need to writing and using Internet only, costs not much, but if we need to buy about twenty computers for one class - it is huge amount. Only schools that have a lot of money can afford more machines. On the other hand, notebook can be useful and it doesn't damage your senses and health, but living in 21st century means using computers a lot. Moreover, a computer can be very convenient and useful for students. In conclusion, I think that in the near future students are going to use computers for all their subjects at school, but now we should try to avoid total computerization

She devorced from David when she was pregnant. After that she met Sam, with who she was living together, when she got Jill. Six months after Jill she found out she had cancer. After that they moved to Vancouver, Sam and Kate got married in Vancouver's hospital. Kate didn't wanted to take medicines. She wanted to die peacefully with some semblance of sanity than take the drugs and die a bit later than she might have naturally with no mind. Kate died when she was twenty years old in Vancouver's hospital. It is sad when people have to die, especially when they are very young and they have a little family to take care of. I liked the book because it is based on true story and it is interesting to read what has really happened.

Informal letter to a friend describing a house for rent

Dear ..............., How are you? I hope you are well. I'm writing to let you know that I think I've found the perfect house for you. It's in a really nice location. Maardu, Harjumaa is a beautiful tidy town. It features a beautiful downtown, where you can easily walk around, shop, eat and dine. But the best thing about it is that the town is less than a twenty kilometres from the capital and the rent for the house is only £169 a week. The house is really adorable outside. It's made of light grey bricks and has a restored wood frame windows. Also, it's got small balcony and is surrounded by a beautiful garden. Plus, modern security system. Inside, the house is nice and comfortable. It has two floors. On the ground floor there is a charming living room and modern fitted kitchen with all the equipment you would expect. As well as a dining room and mediumsize WC. Upstairs there is one big lovely bedroom and one smaller guests bedroom...

Clownfish

Finding Nemo, the Pixar movie introduced millions of people around the world the clownfish. Twenty-nine species of clownfish live among the reefs from East Africa to French Polynesia and from Japan to eastern Australia. Among scientists and aquarists, clownfish are also known as anemone fish because they can't survive without a host anemone, whose stinging tentacles protect them and their developing eggs from intruders. It's still a mystery exactly how a clownfish avoids being stung by the anemone. Of the roughly thousand species of anemones, only ten host clownfish. What's good for the clownfish is good for the anemone, and vice versa. Clownfish spend their entire lives with their host anemone, rarely straying more than a few yards from it. They lay their eggs about twice a month on the nearest hard surface concealed by the fleshy base of the anemone, and they aggressively protect the developing embryos. If the young fish doesn't find ...

A Waste of Time

Reading- A Waste of Time? Actually I really don't like reading, but that book is really interesting. If I started to read that book, it's seems boring, but actually it isn't that. It's going more and more interesting and I like it. That book tells the story of Madame Wu. On her fortieth birthday, Madame Wu carries out a decision she has been planning for a long time: she tells her husband that after twenty-four years their physical life together is now over and she wishes him to take a second wife. The House of Wu, one of the oldest and most revered in China, is thrown into an uproar by her decision, but Madame Wu will not be dissuaded and arranges for a young country girl to come take her place in bed. Elegant and detached, Madame Wu orchestrates this change as she manages everything in the extended household of more than sixty relatives and servants. Alone in her own quarters, she relishes her...

Taj Mahal

footings of the tomb. Instead of lashed bamboo, workmen constructed a colossal brick scaffold that mirrored the tomb. The scaffold was so enormous that foremen estimated it would take years to dismantle. According to the legend, Shah Jahan decreed that anyone could keep the bricks taken from the scaffold, and thus it was dismantled by peasants overnight. A fifteen kilometer tamped-earth ramp was built to transport marble and materials to the construction site. Teams of twenty or thirty oxen were strained to pull blocks on specially constructed wagons. The plinth and tomb took roughly 12 years to complete. The remaining parts of the complex took an additional 10 years. Facts: The Taj Mahal was constructed using materials from all over India and Asia. Over 1,000 elephants were used to transport building materials during the construction. The translucent white marble was brought from Rajasthan, the jasper from Punjab, jade and crystal from China

Now there are about twenty bridges . London soon became the largest city in England and by the time of the Norman Conquest in 1066 it had become the most important city in Britain. It grew in are and population until September 1666, when the Great Fire destroyed four fifths of the wooden buildings in the City including St Paul's Cathedral. Shopping in my life

money on snacks or sweets. I don't help my parents with the household chores. My mother buys food and household goods for a family of three. She makes her shopping spree at the supermarket or at the local grocery store. At the end of her shopping spree she pays at the checkout stand by credit card. I think that money isn't everything and I don't waste too much money on things that I don't really need. I think that all things are too expensive and I don't like the euro. I spent about twenty euro on clothes in month. I would like to go to American giant supermarkets one day when I grow up. Americans supermarkets have around 300 stores many movie theatres and mega sports centre. It's really incredible. Last of all shopping is great.

Mõtteteri (haridus, kool, õpetussõnad)

1+1 Ei Võrdu 2'ga Vaid 3'ga, Sest 1 Naine Ja 1 Mees Teevad Lapse Ja Ongi Juba 3 . Et teadmisi seedia, tuleb neid isuga neelata! Study as if you were going to live forever; live as if you were going to die tomorrow. Elu on hea õpetaja kahjuks ta tapab kõik oma õpilased. When I was ten, I thought my parents knew everything. When I became twenty, I was convinced they knew nothing. Then, at thirty, I realized I was right when I was ten. Ettevaatus on tarkuse võõrasema. Tarkus küpseb praktikas.

The West End Trafalgar Square is called the heart of London because it connects the political area of Westminster to the rest of West London. Lord Nelson's column stands in the center of the beautiful square. Horatio Nelson was a great British commander who defeated Napoleon in the Battle of Trafalgar but unfortunately he himself was killed. To the north and west from the Trafalgar Square is the West End, which is London's main shopping and entertainment area. Most of London's best residential and commercial areas are in the West End. You can find there expensive shops, restaurants, hotels, museums and many art galleries. Great Britain's biggest department store is in Knightsbridge. It was founded in 1834 by Charles Henry Harrod.
