Sandpainting Traditional sandpainting, considered a sacred art, is important aspect of Navajo art and culture. Sandpainting consists of images and patterns created with colored sand. These usually depict the deities of the Navajo but also plant and animal symbols. There are two very distinct and very different forms of Navajo Sand Paintings. First is the traditional "sacred" sand paintings, performed by a Medicine Man, as part of a healing ceremony. The second form of Navajo sand paintings is the one often seen today. The Navajo sand paintings seen today in museums, shops and galleries all contain purposeful errors, as the real sand paintings are considered sacred. There were 4 reasons: settlers came from backgrounds where art was unusual, Protestant attitudes was averse to imagery and painting, the English were not yet distinguished in visual arts and religious art was non-existent. The colonial period is almost entirely limited to portraiture (deemed as `useful' by settlers). These first paintings were made by limners and artisans without formal training and were based on what was popular in England during the Tudors. The paintings are technically unskilled, strongly patterned, flat and linear. Spanish painting in America was mostly religious. In C18, painting was a luxury and necessitated wealth that had by then become available. Report on the artists' financial support Aim of the report According to a recent survey, many artists could soon be having some serious money problems as The National Art Association is planning to stop paying a financial support to professional painters and it seems that they can not sell their paintings either. The survey which interviewed over 1000 The National Art Gallery guests was conducted by British Government. It found that guests are not flattered to buy art. Expensive Two out of five thought that it is nonsense to buy a painting. They thought that they can see some art in National Gallery if they want. Half of guests thought that they might buy some paintings if they had some spare money to spend. Unfortunately 90 per cent of them told that they never had any free money.

Leonardo was best painter at his time. He was the person, who painted Mona Lisa, the Arno Valley, the Last Supper and a lot more. In the 1480s Leonardo received two very important commissions, and commenced another work which was also of ground-breaking importance in terms of composition. Unfortunately two of the three were never finished and the third took so long that it was subject to lengthy negotiations over completion and payment. One of these paintings is that of. Among the works created by Leonardo in the 1500s is the small portrait known as the Mona Lisa or ''la Gioconda", the laughing one. The painting is famous, in particular, for the elusive smile on the woman's face, its mysterious quality brought about perhaps by the fact that the artist has subtly shadowed the corners of the mouth and eyes so that the exact nature of the smile cannot be determined. Almond Blossoms by Vincent Van Gogh

He died on 27 July 1890. The Almond Blossom is a oil painting done on a canvas. Large white blossom branches like this against a blue sky were one of Van Gogh’s favourite subjects. Almond trees flower early in the spring making them a symbol of new life. They represented awakening and hope. He enjoyed them aesthetically and found joy in painting flowering trees. The blossoms of the apricot, peach and plum trees motivated him, and within a month he had created fourteen paintings of blossoming fruit trees. Excited by the subject matter, van Gogh completed nearly one painting a day.The works reflect the influence of Impressionism, Divisionism, and Japanese woodcuts. Van Gogh borrowed the subject, the bold outlines and the positioning of the tree in the picture plane from Japanese printmaking. Vincent was a fan of Japanese art especially of the woodblock print genre Ukiyo-e and influence of Ukiyo-e can be seen in this famous work which was held in high

He wants a trophy wife who either looks good or has a great talent. But if the woman loses her gift, Dorian feels like she betrays him. This proves once again the superficiality of Dorian Gray. To sum up Dorian Gray may look good from the outside but is restless and constantly fighting his demons in the inside. He is not worth anyone's affection or jealousy. Basil Hallward Basil is the perfect example of an isolated artist. He has a talent and his paintings are beautiful but as a perfectionist he is eager to point out mistakes. As art is his true passion, Basil puts his heart and soul into it. That is what makes him a bit paranoid, thinking that some of his paintings reveal too much of himself. He lacks the ability to look himself through other's eyes and understand that even though he may see the world in his work, others see it only as a pretty portrait. He nevertheless attended the Beaux-Arts as a non- enrolled student, spending what he described as "three empty and useless years" studying with Gérôme and others, while also studying at the Académie Julian.[1] He began to work seriously as a painter only at the age of 25. At this point his work showed the influence of Impressionism, as seen in Le Jardin de ma mère (My Mother's Garden) of 1905, one of the few paintings from this period that he did not later destroy. A new emphasis on drawing and geometry appeared in Léger's work after he saw the Cézanne retrospective at the Salon d'Automne in 1907.[2] In 1909 he moved to Montparnasse and met such leaders of the avant-garde as Archipenko, Lipchitz, Chagall, and Robert Delaunay. Revolution evolved and what it was like. It is important to focus on very different kinds of historical evidence and sources to get a clear picture of the Revolution. Therefore, one must not forget to look not only at the written sources but also at the more cultural and artistic interpretations. One of the best examples of cultural and political distribution of the Revolutionary ideas was Jacques-Louis David, who, with his paintings, perpetuated The French Revolution from the Republican point of view. His art was mostly tightly connected to the main figures, events and ideas of the French Revolution. David had more than 5 pieces of art that captured the essence of the Revolution. His paintings represented political ethics, current ideals and foundations. Furthermore, the wider public was enthralled with his ability to represent brotherhood and patriotism while using the neoclassicistic style. (Friedlaender, 1952, p.16)

The painting is one of only four female portraits Leonardo painted. Despite sustaining much damage the surface is much rubbed, the background was lightly overpainted with unmodulated black, the upper left corner has been broken and repaired, a transparent veil on the model's head was turned into an extravagant hairdo and several fingers were grossly retouched - it is nonetheless in better condition than many of Leonardo's other paintings. The sitter's hair is confined tightly to her head under a very fine net veil with a woven border of gold-wound threads. As in many of Leonardo's portraits, the composition comprises a pyramidic spiral and the sitter is caught in the motion of turning to her left, reflecting Leonardo's life-long preoccupation with the dynamics of movement. This work in particular shows da Vinci's expertise in painting the human form. The outstretched hand of Cecilia was painted with great detail

The Snowy Mountains in New South Wales are also part of the Alps. The most famous land mark of Australia is the Uluru. It's a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory. It lies 335 km south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs; 450 km by road. Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Uluru are the two major features of the Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park. Uluru is sacred to the Aboriginal people of the area. It has many rock caves and ancient paintings. Water bodies: Australia is a very dry continent. There are very few rivers and no big lakes in Australia. Most of the lakes of Australia have water in them only after rain. The biggest lake of Australia is Lake Eyre and it is also the lowest point in Australia, at approximately 15 metres below the sea level. The lake is located in the deserts of central Australia. Even in dry season there is usually some water remaining in Lake Eyre.

these beings, some of whom were themselves transformed into features of the landscape, like the Three Sisters rock formation in the Blue Mountains. These beliefs have governed every aspect of Indigenous peoples' lives and relationships with the land. They are the subject of traditional stories, music and artwork across the continent. Art, culture and music Australian Indigenous art is one of the oldest continuous art traditions in the world. The earliest Indigenous art forms were paintings and engravings on boulders, rock shelters and cave walls, some of which date back 30 000 years. Modern Indigenous paintings are the most recent expression of this tradition, which is now acclaimed in Australia and internationally. Body painting, tree carving, bark painting, weaving and sculpture are other traditional Indigenous art forms. Contemporary Indigenous art also includes printmaking, fabric printing, ceramics and glassmaking. [infoplease]

John Constable 1776-1837 Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows Constable is famous for his landscapes, which are mostly of the Suffolk countryside, where he was born and lived. He made many open-air sketches, using these as a basis for his large exhibition paintings, which were worked up in the studio. His pictures are extremely popular today, but they were not particularly well received in England during his lifetime. He did, however, have considerable success in Paris. Sailsbury Cathedral from the Meadows was painted by John Consatble in 1831, one year after his wife's death. He later added nine lines from ,,The Seasons" by 18th Century poet James Thomson that reveal the painting's

It was very difficult and wasn't used a lot (except Hunt). The technique was to apply colour on a wet brilliant white ground. For inspiration the brotherhood turned to the bible because they wanted to portray significant themes. They applied much original thought to their subjects, and this made them excellent illustrators. Only Hunt stayed true to the ideals of the PRB. Other two soon replaced the biblical inspiration with the medieval world- the plays of Shakespeare. Their paintings were very realistic which drew a lot of negative attention on them from various critics, for example Charles Dickens. The critics didn't appreciate the honesty that showed Christ`s father as a working man with dirty fingernails and the Virgin as an ordinary young girl. They were accused to be setting themselves better than anyone else (for example Raphael, Michelangelo, da Vinci- traditional trinity of great masters of that period).

Joseph Mallord William Turner and "The Fighting 'Temeraire'

Joseph Mallord William Turner was born on 23 April 1775. He was an English Romantic landscape painter, watercolourist and printmaker. He has laid the foundation for Impressionism. Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as "the painter of light". One of his main themes was the helplessness and smallness of man against the destructive forces of nature. One of my favourite paintings is "The Fighting `Temeraire' tugged to her Last Berth to be broken up. Turner was in his sixties when he painted this painting. It shows his mastery of painting techniques to suggest sea and sky. It depicts one of the last second-rate ships of the line which played a distinguished role in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Turner's main concern was to evoke a sense of loss, rather than to give an exact recording of the event.
