Environmental problems in Estonia

Good afternoon, i talk about environmental problems in Estonia. plakatile ei kirjuta :D Main environmental problems in estonia: · Oil shale mining and burning · Excessive tree felling · Air pollution · Eutrophication Oil shale mining and burning. Estonia environmental problems are mostly caused by oil shale mining and burning. About 30 000 Hectare ground is unusable. We have a large ash mountains thanks to burning of oil shale. To reduce pollution we need to decrease mining of oil shale and shale-based electricity producing. Air pollution the biggest air pollution is in large cities. It´s caused by big factories, a lot cars and deficient environment ordinance. To decrease air pollution we need to use less cars and more public transport. Eutrophication It means water enrichment of nutrient. In eutrophic water there is less oxygen and water quality low. There are some things to improve it:

Savanna

It now refers to land with grass and either scattered trees or an open canopy of trees. Changes in fire management Savannas are subject to regular fires and the ecosystem appears to be the result of human use of fire. For example Native Americans created subtropical savannas by periodic burning in some areas of the US southeastern coast where fire-resistant Longleaf Pine was the dominant species. Aboriginal burning appears to have been responsible for the widespread occurrence of savanna in tropical Australia and New Guinea

Nuclear Power: A Burden or a Blessing? Today, when the pollution of Earth is an important matter, people are trying to find economic solutions to produce power. This is where the necessity of nuclear power plants comes in question. Nuclear power plants are a cheap way to generate electricity but it also brings a lot of pollution that is much more radioactive and toxic than, for example, coal waste. But if we are looking at the facts, burning coal pollutes the Earth much more than nuclear power plants because more waste is generated. CO2, which is released from burning coal, is the main cause of global warming. Nuclear waste is collected and hidden in rocks or under ground, where it won't face the environment. However we shouldn't depend on nuclear energy as Uranium reserves are ending, especially when the world population is increasing and so is the demand for energy. There is Uranium in seawater, but getting it is too expensive

This time he didn`t run off, but still, he tried to stay in the bushes near the shadows of the trees. Carefully, like a small child discovering the world he moved towards the light. And what he saw took his breath away: there was a village, but it was all burning and the people were sleeping an eternal sleep everywhere he looked. Some of them were seriosly injured, but alive. So he dared to sneek closer and take a better look. One old man, who was still moving a bit, saw the soldier and waved sadly his hand. The youth climbed slowly over some dead bodies and sat near the injured person. "What happened?" he asked "Who are these terrifiing creatures?" The old man pointed one of his fingers to the north. Examples of activities resulting in dioxin emissions are waste incineration, burning fuels (wood, coal or oil), chlorine bleaching of pulp and paper and chlorinated pesticides manufacturing. Burning of many materials containing chlorine, such as plastics and wood treated with pentachlorophenol also produce dioxins. According to a study in the context of the Stockholm Convention, the main sources for emissions of dioxins to air in EU25 are Residential combustion (~ 30%) Open burning of waste (backyard burning) (~15%) Wood preservation (~15%) Iron and steel industry (~ 8%) Power production, nonferrous metals, chemical industry (~ 5% each) Emissions in estonia Tabel 2.1.2.2. power source. Watt patented late in 1781 a connection from the piston to a rotating gear. This set-up is still used in the internal combustion engine. Scottish engineer and inventor William Murdock created a vehicle that was powered by a miniature steam engine. In 1813, the precursors to the steam engine train was built by William Hedly. Between 1800 and 1825 steam powered travel increased. Boats, vehicles, and trains used steam engines. The method of steam production was by burning some substance. Superheated steam was produced in an experiment by Jacob Perkins in 1823. His experiment was called a flash boiler. Steam of this type is later used in nuclear power plants to turn the steam turbine. In 1892, Rudolf Diesel of Germany patented the diesel engine. It operated through fuel ignition that caused highly compressed air to expand against a piston. The diesel engine had a 50% thermal efficiency, and was more efficient than steam engines.

Setsubun

Setsubun ("seasonal division") Is a fesitival in Japan celebrating the beginning of spring. It's held on 3 or 4 of February which isone day before the beginning of spring according to Japanese lunar calendar. This day was to chase away the evil spirits from the winter. This holiday is not very popular anymore although some people still decorate their houses with holy tree leaves and fish heads. In the 13th century it was a popular custom, people belived that the smell of burning trees and the sound of drums would scare the spirits away. Nowadays it's more common to throw rosted beans into houses, temples an shrines. Ou are supposed to shout ,,Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" while throwing the beans which means ,,Devils out! Happiness in!". Then you should pick up the number of peas as old you are and eat them.

Atomic energy

Nuclear power produces around 11% of the world's energy needs, and produces huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel, without the pollution that you would get from burning fossil fuels. Nuclear power costs about the same as coal, so it's not expensive to make. Although not much waste is produced, it is very, very dangerous. It must be sealed up and buried for many thousands of years. For all that time it must be kept safe from earthquakes, flooding, terrorists and everything else. This is difficult. Nuclear power is reliable, but a lot of money has to be spent on safety - if it does go wrong, a nuclear accident can be a major disaster.

Enivornment in Estonia - Problems and solutions

Environment in Estonia Nowadays environmental problems are too big to be managed by individual persons or individual countries. In other words, it is an international problem. But what are the biggest problems in Estonia, why and how people could solve it? Air, water, and land pollution rank among Estonia's most significant environmental challenges. The combination of 300,000 tons of dust from the burning of oil shale by power plants in the northeast part of the country and airborne pollutants from industrial centers in Poland and Germany poses a significant hazard to Estonia's air quality. Estonia's water resources have been affected by agricultural and industrial pollutants, including petroleum products, which have also contaminated the nation's soil. Some rivers and lakes within the country have been found to contain toxic sediments in excess of 10 times the accepted level for safety...

Environmental problems

Environmental problems Many environment problems are caused by human actions. 1. Air pollution. Use public transportation instead of your own when going to work. Air pollution is also drastically reduced by conserving energy. It is the little things, like switching off fans and lights when you are not at home. Electricity causes the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels, which in turn pollute the air. Solar power is a fantastic solution. Now that solar radiation is at a climactic peak, we can reap power from the sun using solar panel systems. These range from home systems to larger scale systems powering entire communities and cities. 2. Deforestation. While individuals can rarely have a personal impact on the deforestation rate, there are other things you can do. Discourage

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM The term acid rain refers to what scientists call acid deposition. It is caused by airborne acidic pollutants and has highly destructive results. Scientists first discovered acid rain in 1852, when the English chemist Robert Agnus invented the term. From then until now, acid rain has been an issue of intense debate among scientists and policy makers. Acid rain, one of the most important environmental problems of all, cannot be seen. The invisible gases that cause acid rain usually come from automobiles or coal-burning power plants. Acid rain moves easily, affecting locations far beyond those that let out the pollution. As a result, this global pollution issue causes great debates between countries that fight over polluting each other's environments. For years, science studied the true causes of acid rain. Some scientists concluded that human production was primarily responsible, while others cited natu...

Renewable energy

1879. Negative aspects of hydropower Damming rivers may destroy or disrupt wildlife and other natural resources. Hydropower plants can cause low dissolved oxygen levels in the water, which is harmful to river habitats. Hydroelectric power plants don't work for a very long time. Silt, or dirt from a riverbed, builds up behind the dam and slows the flow of water. Geothermal energy Geothermal energy is the heat from the Earth. It's clean and sustainable. It can be extracted without burning a fossil fuel such as coal, gas, or oil. Geothermal fields produce only about onesixth of the carbon dioxide that a relatively clean naturalgasfueled power plant produces. Unlike solar and wind energy, geothermal energy is always available, 365 days a year. It's relatively inexpensive. There are three types of geothermal power plants: dry steam, flash, and binary. Geothermal energy is generated in over 20 countries. The United States is the world's largest producer.

GLOBE THEATRE. Liis-Mariin Remmelg The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men, on land owned by Thomas Brend and inherited by his son, Nicholas Brend and grandson Sir Matthew Brend, and was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built on the same site by June 1614 and closed The Globe was owned by actors who were also shareholders in Lord Chamberlain's Men. Two of the six Globe shareholders, Richard Burbage and his brother Cuthbert Burbage, owned double shares of the whole, or 25% each; the other four men, Shakespeare, John Heminges, Augustine Phillips, and Thomas Pope, owned a single share, or 12.5%. On 29 June 1613 the Globe Theatre went up in flames during a performance of Henry VIII. From the moment the Detroit convent girl hitch-hiked to New York 20 years ago with a burning ambition to be the world's most famous woman, she has shown an amazing talent for transformation. It is no coincidence that Steven Spielberg is looking for a woman of his adaption of Arthur Golden's best-selling novel, Memories of a Geisha. And if her new Geisha look is a part of Madonna's campaign to secure the part, who can blame her? Humans are changeing the planet with their ordinary life. The principle cause of climate change is the increase in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere. The main cause of that is the burning of fossile fuels. This is leading to the global warming. People have discovered a way to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. It is possible to seperate the CO2 from the other gases by adding liquid which is very good at absorbing CO2. Then it can be pumped to underground. Scientist came up with this idea because methane gas has been down there for thousands of years and it has not come up. So they expect that the CO2 won't be coming up either

Renewable energy

Renewable energy uses natural resources that can be replaced or "renewed" without harming the environment and does not contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Non-renewable energy Non-renewable energy comes from sources that can't be replenished in a short period of time. We get most of our energy from nonrenewable energy sources, which include fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, coal and from nuclear energy. Unfortunately, burning fossil fuels produces greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane which may cause global warming. Wind energy is the world's fastest growing energy technology. Most renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from the sun. Hydroelectric energy is the oldest and largest source of renewable energy. Renewable energy is also known as "green" energy because, unlike energy created from fossil fuels, it will not run out.

Simple and small ways affect the enviroment for the better

One way how to help the enviroment is saving energy. You should switch off anything, that uses electricity. If you’re not using it, then turn it off, it’s simple. This goes for lights, televisions and so on. Also try unplugging if possible, because even when an appliance is turned off, it still may use power. You could switch your light bulbs to LED light bulbs, because these are using less energy and even last longer. If you use renewable energy sources, you won’t cause burning fossil fuels, that causes pollution. Another way how to help the enviroment would be saving water. Turn off the water, when you’re not using it. People often leave water running, when they’re brushing teeth- turn if off between rinses! If you find a leak somewhere, fix it and in the meantime put a bowl orsm under the drip. Also you should conserve water. Take shorter showers, run your dishwasher only when it’s completely full and if possible reuse water.

Transhumant Grazing systems in Temperate Asia

• Pastures of family farms belong to the state and grazing rights are leased. Western Himalaya • The transhumance systems are similar throughtout. • Overwintering in lowlands gives herders access both to markets and opportunities for seasonal employment • Herders belong into minority tribes Bhutan case study • No crops are grown, only a few vegetables • Stock numbers are on raise and andpastures generally hard grazed • Bush enchroachment is exerbated by a ban of pasture burning to improve wildlife habitat • Major problem is winter mortality of younger and weaker animals due to malnutrition • Oats have shown considerable promise but seed supply has still to be organized Nepal case study • Two grazing systems were studied both in raising chauris for milk • First system is highly commercialized and based around a milk purchasing organization • The second has no outlet of fresh milk, only ghee and local dry cheese is sold

Näidis artikkel inglise keeles

12th grade student Liliana Uljas was substituting 7th grade Estonian lesson when two teenager girls started fire by using hair spray and lighter. On the same day another angry student broke glass wall, after he was asked to leave from class. ,, I can't understand, if children doesn't have anything else but burn thing to do anymore!" said literature teatcher Kirsi Rannaste. Her statement was justified because few weeks later another incident took place. This time they were burning potato chips. In Viimsi Secondary School middle school students does not have any respect towards their theachers nor anybody else. When someone accidentaly runs into you, then you shouldn't wait for apology. More likely you get to hear some insulting words. When canadian Jody Mann, a Practical English teacher in Viimsi School, first started to work in Viimsi, he had a unpleasant incident with three 7th grade student. ,,I came out

densities of visual binary stars. In 1922, Ernst Öpik published a paper where he estimated the distance of the Andromeda Galaxy. Using a novel and simple astrophysical method, he determined the distance as 450 kpc. His result was in good accordance with other estimates of these days and his method is still widely used. In 1951 he published a paper concerning the triple-alpha process, describing the burning of helium-4 into carbon-12 in the cores of red giant stars. However, this achievement is often overlooked because Edwin Salpeter's paper on the same subject had already been published by the time Öpik's paper reached Britain and the United States.[3] In 1972, Öpik published a very important piece on the origin of the Moon by capture in the Irish Astronomical Journal. He included breakup and re-assembly of rings into which the Moon was broken. 6

AVCHD vs HDV - võrdlus

When you import the AVCHD/MTS file to your video editor, the first step is to decompress that video so the editor can deal with it - the same happens with HDV. After you finish editing you have more than one rendering step - depending on the playback method and mechanism. 1) If you are outputting to a blank DVD you can save as an AVCHD - h.264 data file and burn that to a single layer, double layer or BluRay blank disc - which you use depends on what your computer is capable of burning to... Burning this type of data file can only be played back using a BluRay player - or your computer. 2) If you use a DVD authoring tool (like WinDVD or iDVD) it will downsample the video to standard definition playable in a regular DVD. The DVD authoring tool will create the required VOB video format that regular DVD players can deal with. 3) If you render a "standard definition data file" from your computer to a computer readable
