„Hope I Die Before I Get Old: Mispredicting Happiness Across the Adult Lifespan“

Kairi Laur IK12 AÜ ,,Hope I Die Before I Get Old: Mispredicting Happiness Across the Adult Lifespan" Heather P. Lacey, Dylan M. Smith ja Peter A. Ubel. 2006. ,,Journal of Happiness Studies" Käesolev artikkel käsitleb teemat, kuidas inimestel on kalduvus ülehinnata asjaolude mõju enda heaolule, mida tõestavad laialdaselt erinevad elusündmused, kuid tajutav vananemise mõju heaolule on suuresti jäänud tähelepanuta. Inimesed näivad kartvat vananeda, hoolimata tõenditest, et heaolu paraneb vanusega. Autorid võrdlesid, kuidas mõistavad

The rewiev of Twilight

The Review Twilight is the story of Edward and Bella's romance. Forget any vampire romance you have read before, Twilight is so unique it is almost like it's in its own genre. The book is marketed at Young Adult readers but it has the ability to cross age barriers and will satisfy both teenagers and adults alike. The story is told in first person from the perspective of Bella, so the reader only ever know what she knows, making Edward and his family a mystery that is slowly unravelled through out the book. Even by the end of the book I was still thirsting for more of the Cullen family back story - hopefully their characters might be developed further in future books

Polar Bear Kristjan Paal 6.c The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is a bear native largely within the Arctic Circle encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is the world's largest land carnivore and also the largest bear, together with the omnivorous Kodiak bear, which is approximately the same size. A boar (adult male) weighs around 350 700 kg (7701,500 l while a sow (adult female) is about half that size. Although it is closely related to the brown bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological niche, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting the seals which make up most of its diet. Although most polar bears are born on land, they spend most of their time at sea. Their scientific name means "maritime bear, and derives from this fact. Polar bears can h...

Polar bear Ursus maritimus or the "sea bear." Polar bears live near the circumpolar at north in areas where they can hunt seals at open leads. Scientists estimate that there are between 22000 to 27000 polar bears. Its closest relative is the brown bear. Adult male polar bears are 2,5 to 3 meters tall. They weigh 250 to 770 kilograms. Adult female bears are smaller. They are about 1,8 to 2,5 meters tall and weigh 90 to 320 kilograms. Polar bears usually eat seals usually the ringed seasl, but sometimes the bearded seals. When hunting is good, polar bears will typically eat only the fat and leave the rest of the carcass for scavengers including arctic foxes, ravens, and younger bears. Polar bears also

Estate Planning Basics Referaat

,,Providing" means deciding both who will raise the child and who manage any money or property that the child legally owns. To arrange for the transfer of your property to your beneficiaries after you die, you must use one or some combination of various legal devices. The two most popular are will and living trusts. Wills A will, the simplest estate planning device to prepare, is a document that leaves some or all your property to beneficiaries you choose. You can also use a will to name an adult guardian for your young childrens. The principal drawback of a will is that it must normally go through probate, a complicated and expensive court proceeding. Living Trusts A living trust is a legal document similar to a will in function, exept that no probate or other court proceedings are required to turn property over to beneficiaries. Because of this, living trusts are the most popular probate- avoidance device. Beneficiaries Direct beneficiaries come in two types:

The australian terrier

Aussies are very intelligent. They rank 34th in Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs, being of above average working/obedience intelligence. They are happiest when with their families, and therefore they should not be left outside for long periods of time. They are natural watchdogs and will sound the alarm if a strange animal or person approaches. As with other terriers, they can be dog-aggressive and somewhat bossy, and care must be taken when living in a multi-pet household. In general, adult male terriers do not get along well with other adult male dogs Health There are three completed health surveys for Australian Terriers Two surveys, one in 1997 and one in 2002, have been conducted by the Australian Terrier Club of AmericaThe Club is currently collecting data for their next survey. The UK Kennel Club has a 2004 survey, but it has a much smaller sample size than the Australian Terrier Club of America surveys Some of the respondents in the American surveys were

An Essay

Most children in Estonia start school at age seven, only some of them at age six. I think starting with school and competition, rivalry, witch always associates with schooling, too young, shortens the childhood and may affect negatively self-esteem, success and coping in the future. Children´s job is to play, it develops child the best, so I think anyone shouldn't forbit humans inherent needs. Children don´t have to become too fast to an adult. The high school in Great Britain starts at age eleven, but in Estonia at about age fifteen. Biggest difference is that in Great Britain they prepare young people to get a job or continue studing, but in Estonia this is only first step of educational life. After primary school in Estonia you have two ways to walk: high school or industrial school, where they get profession. Youngsters in United States of America and Great Britain have easier to make choice

Dahl published his first short story in the ''Saturday Evening Post'' He went on to write stories and articles for other magazines, including ''The New Yorker'' Dahl wrote his first story for children, ''The Gremlins'' in 1942, for Walt Disney. The story wasn't terribly successful, so Dahl went back to writing mysterious stories for adult readers. He continued in this vein into the 1950s, producing the best-selling story collection ''Someone Like You '' in 1953 and ''Kiss, Kiss'' in 1959. He also had a successful career as the writer of adult short stories, usually with a dark sense of humour and a surprise ending. Many were originally written for American magazines such as ''Ladies Home Journal'', ''Harper's'', ''Playboy'' and ''The New Yorker.'' Dahl wrote more than 60 short stories and they have

Bullying

or social activities, or just spending some time with him or her and trying to understand what he or she is going through. I know what feeling you have when someones is calling you with nasty names or talking rubbish about your parents. It will make such an anger inside you that you really want to kill that person who is bullying you. It's hard to talk about serious things with adults sometimes, but they can help to stop bullying. Tell an adult that you trust and can talk to your parents, your teacher, your best friends or even your neighbour. If you've told a grown-up before and they haven't done anything about it, tell someone else. Having someone else there to support you can make it a lot less scary. Tell the adults exactly what has happened - who did the bullying, where and when it happened, how long it's been happening to you, and how it's making you feel.

Should Cloning Be Banned ? essee

Should cloning be banned ? Cloning is using genetic engineering to make exact copies of living animals and plants. One of the most famous cloning processes involved a sheep named Dolly. The sheep was the first mammal cloned from adult DNA. Since then it has become part of real life and the subject of public debate. For some people, human cloning is acceptable in medicine in spite of the criticism that it is repulsive. Firstly, cloning the organs can save many lives. For example when a person needs an organ and can not find a donor, doctors could just give her the cloned organ. People would not need to donate their organs anymore. Secondly, parents who can not have children may wish to clone a child for themselves.

Academic success in my culture

A key component to success is a student's work ethic. Students who are willing to put extra hours in to study and prepare for classes and presentations tend to improve their skills and academic abilities. Students, who take less challenging classes or are satisfied with less work, often will have the result of average academic success. As much as teachers, classes and schools are factors in student academic success, parents hold an equally important role. This includes having adult figures, who are positive role models, who value the importance of education as well as providing an appropriate environment to nurture student academic success. While there are many factors in academic success, the most important factor is the student. A positive and academically challenging attitude toward education takes students a long ways toward their journey to success.

Churches in Tartu

Here is Tartu St. John’s or Jaani church. Tartu St. John's Church, which was built in the 14th century in Gothic style, is one of the oldest in Estonia; moreover, it is unique in Europe due to its many original terracotta sculptures. Numbering around a thousand, these 700- year old sculptures were largely hidden till the 1950's. The entrance to the church is free, but if you're looking for more than old sculptures, a view, then it costs. Access to the viewing platform costs 2 euro per adult and 1.50 euro per student. Rivalling St. John's Church as Tartu's most impressive, St. Peter's church, located over the river, is a red- bricked, pseudo-Gothic. It was built in 1884, allowing it to seat up to 3,000 people. The large altar painting was created by Estonia's artist, Johann Köler, in 1897. St. Paul's Church is located along Riia. The style looks a little bit different from the other churches, because it was built by famed Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen in 1917

A book worth reading

A book worth reading A year ago I managed to find time to read an extremely profound book entitled The Fault in Our Stars. This tragic, yet realistic drama was written by John Green, a famous author of young-adult fiction, and it provides a valuable insight into the life of children fighting with cancer. The Fault in Our Stars is about a teenage girl Hazel, who has stage 4 thyroid cancer. Hazel’s daily routine contains taking meds, reading books and taking part of the support group meetings for cancer- fighters. In the support group she meets an extraordinarily handsome boy Augustus, who, full of metaphores and mystery, catches Hazel’s attention immediately. As the plot evolves, these two spectacularily appalling figures get close and share unique experiences. Together they help out a friend dealing with the loss of a girlfriend, travel to the Netherlands to meet Hazel’s favourite author and much more. Unlike any other teenage-cliche ...

Hiidpanda/Bambuskaru

as ,,large bear cat'' or ,,bamboo bear'. Unlike other bear species, pandas have round pupils. Pandas are known for their large black patches around their eyes, ears and across their round bodies. Male pandas can weigh up to 160 kg and females can weigh as little as 75 kg. The giant panda's thick, wooly coat keeps it warm in the cool forests. It has strong jaw muscles and teeth for eating tough bamboo. Giant pandas are generally solitary. Each adult has a defined territory and female pandas do not tolerate each other. Pandas are known to attack humans, but rather out of irritation than aggression. Pandas are endangered species, threatened by continued habitat loss and by a very low birthrate. The population boom in China created stress on the panda's habitat and it led to hunting of wildlife, including pandas. Due to conservation efforts, in 2006, there were 40 panda reserves in China, compared to just 13 reserves two decades ago.

Children while young

I think that there are not the right age for having children. It is so individual how people get ready to having them. Some of them are mature already in beginning of 20´s, therefore some people are not mentally adult even on their 30´s. Or like one of my relatives says that the best combination is young healthy woman and an older wealthy man. Also, the term young is very relative. Concidering the age of woman giving birth for the first time is about 25. It has been increased very much comparing with the ten years back time and the medium age for woman giving birth is 35. The society thinks that it is quite late and so am I

Annette Kirotar Gustav Adolf Grammar School 2008/2009 A white tiger is a tiger with a genetic condition that nearly eliminates pigment in the normally orange fur, though they still have stripes. Another genetic condition also makes the stripes of the tiger very pale; white tigers of this type are called snowwhite or "pure white". Compared to orange tigers without the white gene, white tigers tend to be larger both at birth and at full adult size. All the white tigers are Bengal tigers. White tiger is very rare and it is known only in zoos. How can the issue of intolerance be addressed by the government?

And if intolerance starts with the fear of the unknow, education can help. Government should emphasise education more and more. Children should learn about tolerance and human rights and about other ways of life. School should teach children to always be open-minded. Teaching about tolerance and human rights and that the world is bigger than it seems, has to be taught at an early age so that a curious child would grow up to be a open-minded adult, not afraid of something just because they do not know enough about it. Government is also responsible for enforcing laws, and protecting people. Government should find a solution for every small problem. Small problems get quickly big, fear and intolerance in people spreads if nothing is done about it. So yes, small problems matter and need to be taken care of. In conclusion, one thing is to prevent problems from growing bigger and finnaly global, enforcing the human rights laws

A letter and an essay

In other words, it is a concept without a fixed meaning. To most people, freedom means the absence of fetters or bondage, eg. having the power to act or to speak or to think without externally imposed restraints. One's childhood's dream of adulthood is the desire to be independent. One's adulthood's dream of childhood is the desire to be free from responsibility and enjoy a life without care. In each case, the dream of freedom is idealised. A child dreaming of being an adult wants the independence that the adult has but does not understand the responsibility that accompanies it. An adult dreaming of being a child wants the carefree life that the child has but does not remember that a child is incapable of doing things that most adults take for granted. The only difference between an adult contentedly remembering childhood and an adult desperately reliving childhood is that one has learned to live within the restrictions of adulthood while the

Whale

Whales are moving in pods. The bond between mother and calf is the strongest. Members of a pod may protect one another. The toothed whales travel in large, sometimes stable pods, they frequently hunt their prey in groups, migrate together, and share care of their young. Baleen whales usually travel alone or in small pods. These enormous animals eat about 4 tons of tiny krill each day, obtained by filter feeding through baleen. Adult blue whales have no predators except man. Their food ranges from microscopic plankton to very large animals. Some whale species like Orchas ( who are called ,, killer whales") may eat their friends, family- other whales. Some species of large whales are listed as endangered, because of the hunters. They have been hunted commercially for whale oil, meat and baleen since the 17th century. Current whaling nations are Norway, Iceland and Japan
