The Greenhouse Effects

Although this worst-case scenario has rarely occurred and presents a low probability of occurrence, countermeasures must be prepared in advance based on an appropriate response and adaptation strategies. After an overview of possible infrastructural instabilities caused by global warming, methodologies are proposed placing emphasis on the increasing probability of infrastructural instability triggered by natural hazards resulting from groundwater-level (GWL) variations. These effects are expected to be particularly serious in coastal regions because of the influence of the rising sea level resulting from global warming. The influence of sea-level rises (SLR) will become apparent along with land subsidence because groundwater abstraction will become severe in coastal regions. Additionally, the probability of earthquake liquefaction increases if GWL rises in accompaniment with SLR. Using case histories, we examined the possible occurrence of these natural hazards as a result

Acid Rain

9 Not especially harmful except when carbon dioxide levels are high (20 mg I 1) or ferric ions are present 4.54.9 Harmful to the eggs of salmon and trout species (salmonids) and to adult fish when levels of Ca 2, Na and Cl are low 4.04.4 Harmful to adult fish of many types which have not been progressively acclimated to low pH 3.53.9 Lethal to salmonids, although acclimated roach can survive for longer 3.03.4 Most fish are killed within hours at these levels Environmental effects Very obvious environmental effect of acid rain is the loss of fish in acid sensitive lakes and streams. Loads of fishes are not able to survive in acidic water. There are 2 ways acid rain effects lakes and streams: chronic and episodic. The first one is long-term process and this acidification is result from years of acidic rainfall. Episodic, on the other hand, is rapid change sudden jump in the acidity of water. Acid deposition may influence forest vegetation and soils

Short and long term effects of alcohol

Short and long term effects of alcohol Good morning. My name is NIMI. I'm going to talk about short and long term effects of alcohol consumption. Firstly I'll tell you about short term effects and then move on to long term effects. My presentation will take about 5 minutes. If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask them afterwards. Firstly I would focus on the short term effects of alcohol consumption. The amount and circumstances of alcohol consumption play a large part in determining the extent of intoxication; for instance, consuming alcohol after a heavy meal causes alcohol to absorb more slowly. Hydration also plays a role as for determining the extent of hangovers. Initially, alcohol produces feelings of relaxation and cheerfulness, but as a result of further consumption blurred vision and coordination problems generally occure. As far as cell

The Effects of Computer-Generated Images

The Effects of Computer-Generated Images Nowadays, people are surrounded by all kind of generated images. Computer- generated imagery is the applications of computer graphics to create or contribute to images in art, printed media, video games, films, television programs, commercials. Everybody sees the world much prettier, thanks to the images, but. What are the effects of computer-generated images? Firstly, people are getting use to the thought, that everything around them is free from defects. People watch movies and pictures, play games and do not think, that everything they see is not a reality. They get depressed when finding out that the actual look of an object is not the same as it was on the pictures. When booking a hotel, everybody firstly look at the pictures of the hotel and then decide if they really want to stay there

Essee: The effects mobile phones have on our lives.

The effects mobile phones have on our lives Martin Põldvee 12a It is clearly that mobile phones have become an irreplaceable part of our lives. We use it to communicate with others, arrange our business or just for entertainment. As the mobile phones have simplyfied our lives in various ways, it also brings many disadvantages. To begin with, many researches have shown that mobile phone radiation may be harmful to human health. If mobile phones are used too frequently it may slightly damage your brain or reduce men's potential in getting siblings. It is also belieaved that mobile phones may cause some sleeping problems. Another, more usual problem what comes with cellphones is that they are expensive to use and when the battery is dead, it is completely useless. Also if parents trust their children to use mobile phones at very young age, the may get surprised when they finally see the bill. Because there are...

Stress

Stress Stress is a necessary part of nature. It´s the organism´s defence mechanism for changes in the surrounding enviorment. Without it we could not survive. Stress has many effects on the body that are necessary for a reaction to the stressor. When an animal senses danger, it automatically triggers a fight or flight response. In case of a lifethreatening situation, stress is an invaluable ally. It can even motivate us to prepeare for upcoming challenges. But as we move further and further from our natural habitat, stress becomes more of nuisance than a lifesaver. Things that cause stress to the modern man are nothing compared to the problems that troubled our ancestors

"What makes a good movie?"

What makes a good movie? To make a good movie, the director has to succeed in many different fields. If the movie has great special effects and acting, but the story is very weak, the movie may not be as successful as a movie with moderate effects, acting and story. A good movie consists of three most important elements: story, actors and special effects. The most important part of the movie is the story. Many good movies are based on successful books and thus already have a great story as well as many fans that liked the book and will be looking forward to the movie. Other movies that are not based on any existing stories have to have a better story to be successful because they most likely won't have any real fans before the movie is released. The story can't be too long or too short

Rain or any other form of precipitation that is unusually acidic It can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals, and infrastructure through the process of wet deposition Acid rain is caused by emissions of compounds of ammonium, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur which react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids History Since the Industrial Revolution, emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides to the atmosphere have increased In 1852, Robert Angus Smith was the first to show the relationship between acid rain

Dioxins and furans in the atmosphere

They are found in all environmental compartments, are persistent and, being fat soluble, they tend to accumulate in higher animals including humans. Their resistance to degradation and semivolatility means that they may be transported over long distances and give rise to transnational exchanges of pollutants. In addition, dioxins which were released into the environment many years ago are still contributing to current exposure. Even very small dioxin concentrations can cause negative effects on the environment and on human health, in particular on the most vulnerable groups like children. Human health effects include impairment of the immune system, the nervous system, the hormonal system and the reproductive functions. Dioxins are also suspected of causing cancer. How Are We Exposed to Dioxins? Although formation of dioxins is local, environmental distribution is global. Dioxins are found throughout the world in the environment. The highest levels

Thoughts on Air Pollution Essay

Pollutants can be trapped inside buildings, causing indoor pollution that lasts for a long time. The sources of air pollution are both natural and human-based. As one might expect, humans have been producing increasing amounts of pollution as time has progressed, and they now account for the majority of pollutants released into the air. Air pollution has been a problem throughout history. Even in Ancient Romepeople complained about smoke put into the atmosphere. The effects of air pollution are diverse and numerous. Air pollution can have serious consequences for the health of human beings, and also severely affects natural ecosystems. Because it is located in the atmosphere, air pollution is able to travel easily. As a result, air pollution is a global problem and has been the subject of global cooperation and conflict. Some areas now suffer more than others from air pollution. Cities with large numbers of

Acid rains üldine kokkuvõte

[4] Though acidic rain was discovered in 1852, it was not until the late 1960s that scientists began widely observing and studying the phenomenon. The term "acid rain" was generated in 1972. [5] Canadian Harold Harvey was among the first to research a "dead" lake. Public awareness of acid rain in the U.S increased in the 1970s after the New York Times promulgated reports from the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in New Hampshire of the myriad deleterious environmental effects demonstrated to result from it. Occasional pH readings in rain and fog water of well below 2.4 have been reported in industrialized areas.[2] Industrial acid rain is a substantial problem in Europe, China,[8][9] Russia and areas down- wind from them. These areas all burn sulfur-containing coal to generate heat and electricity.[10] The problem of acid rain not only has increased with population and industrial growth, but has become more widespread

Formaldehyde

In nutrient- enriched seawater, there is a long lag period (40 hours) prior to measurable loss of formaldehyde by presumably biological processes. Formaldehyde in aqueous effluent is degraded by activated sludge and sewage in 4872 hours. In a die-away test, using water from a stagnant lake, degradation was complete in 30 hours under aerobic conditions and 48 hours under anaerobic conditions. Bhattacharya and Parkin used anaerobic chemostats to study fate and kinetic effects of sludge and continuous additions of formaldehyde to acetate and propionate enrichment systems. The high reduction of formaldehyde with continuous addition is indicative of biodegradation, since the combination of volatilization, adsorption, and chemical transformation should account for less than 25% of the removal. Up to 80% of the formaldehyde was removed, with biodegradation accounting for 5560%. Sediment and Soil The fate of formaldehyde in soil has not been determined HEALTH EFFECTS

at which even a tiny additional increase would throw the system into violent change. We started doing harmful things and only now do we realize what we have done and what we are doing. At this current rate by the middle of next century the Earth's temperature may rise a predicted from 2 to 6 degrees Celsius. This may not seem as much but with the Earth's delicate balance we will have lost several species and habitats. Scientists are worried that soon the effects of what we have done may be irreversible. This temperature increase would drastically affect the growth of many different crops and cause the polar ice caps to melt, therefore increasing sea levels to rise up by several metres. Warmer oceans cause more intense storms. Buildings and roads close to the water will be flooded and they could suffer damage from hurricanes and tropical storms. The day after tomorrow

Film is directed by Roland Emmerich who has also directed the film Independence Day. This film talks about global catastrophe, where second ice age is coming with a huge storm before it. A climatologist Jack Hall's researches show that his fears are coming true. He must go to the White House to warn everybody, but in addition he must reach to New York to save his son who is draped in a library by storm. On the plus side the movie is visually stunning. Special effects are great and there is plenty of action to keep you in front of the screen. On the other hand some people may not like how far all this climate changing has taken and find this all too exaggerated. All in all it's a fascinating story with great special effects and all this shows us what could happen to world when we keep up with living like this.

Failing at repeated efforts to control computer use. Never getting off the computer. A cause for many of the above-mentioned effects may be that computer games do not stimulate the release of neurotransmitters responsible for feelings of satisfaction and relaxation, such as oxytocin and endorphin, in the same way that real world activities do.

forest. So may say that thanks to the good and decents businesses are our surroundings clean and pleasant to everyone who like to spend some time and relax in wild. Tourism has a negative impact to environment if a large number of events are organized in a inappropriate sites. Usually people throw garbage and empty packages down when they stay overnight or just party. In addition too many people on one land may damage the plants under their feet. Besides nature decorative effects it also changes the economic situation of this place. Develop new jobs and increasing the purchasing power and scale of living. Millised on mind huvitava valdkonna baastekstid?

Individual and Organizational Perspectives“ ja ka Breaugh, J. A., & Mann, R. B. (1984) „Recruiting source effects: A test of two alternative explanations“. Viimane tundub huvitav, sest seal tundub juttu oolevat kahest erinevast värbamise meetodist, või lähenemisest värbamisele. Vähemalt pealkirja järgi. Mulle pakuvad huvi ka Rynes’i kirjutised. Kõik haakuvad minu teemaga hästi vähemalt pealkirja järgi otsustades. Rynes, S. L., Bretz, R. D., & Gerhart, B. (1990) „The importance of recruitment in job choice: A different way of looking“ ning huvitav tundub ka Rynes, S. L., & Barber, A. E

o improves your immunity; o protect against Alzheimer's disease; o fight allergies. The magic ingredients are polyphenols and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Polyphenols and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) Phenols and polyphenols are compounds found naturally in plants. EGCG is a potent antioxidant that may have therapeutic applications in the treatment of many disorders. EGCG is the main subject of scientific study with regard to its potential health effects. Harmful Effects? The only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. Green tea contains less caffeine than coffee: o thirty to sixty mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea; o compared to over one-hundred mg. in eight ounces of coffee. Conclusion In traditional Chinese and Indian medicine, practitioners used green tea as a stimulant and to improve heart health. Drink 2 - 3 cups of green tea per day.

death. Blake taught Catherine to write, and she helped him to colour his printed poems. William and Catherine's first daughter and last child might be Thel described in The Book of Thel who was conceived as dead. Politics Blake was not active in any well-established political party Blake was both concerned about senseless wars of kingdoms, and the blighting effects of the industrial revolution. Much of his poetry recounts in symbolic allegory the effects of the French and American revolutions. Death On the day of his death, Blake worked on his Dante series. Eventually, it is reported, he ceased working and turned to his wife, who was in tears by his bedside. Beholding her, Blake is said to have cried, "Stay Kate! Keep just as you are I will draw your portrait for you have ever been an angel to me." Having completed this portrait (now lost), Blake laid down his tools and began to sing hymns and verses

Kombineeritud meetodid: kromatograafia ja massispektromeetria

LC vedelikkromatograafia ESI ionisatsioon ja maatriksiefekt ESI kasutamisel võib sageli kohata segavat fenomeni ehk niinimetatud maatriksiefekti. Maatriksiefektiks nimetatakse analüüdiga kooselueeruvate ühendite mõju analüüdi ionisatsiooni efektiivsusele. Maatriksiefekt võib olla nii positiivne kui negatiivne. Esimesel juhul suurendavad proovimaatriksi komponendid analüüdi ionisatsioonimäära, teisel juhul surutakse analüüdi ionisatsioon tagasi [58]. P. J. Taylor, Matrix effects: Matrix effects: The Achilles heel of quantitative high-performance liquid chromatographyelectrospraytandem mass spectrometry. Clinical Biochemistry 38 (2005) 328. Technology in our daily lives

The everincreasing use of technology in our daily lives is not always a good thing Technology plays an increasingly important part in our daily lives. While many technological developments may be beneficial in the field of medicine, for instance there are many others whose effects are less positive. We may find examples of these in the world of work, in the area of information technology and in the home. In the world of work, technological advances have had various negative effects. The development of robotics has meant that in industries such as carmanufacturing robots are replacing people. They work faster and more accurately and they do not need breaks. As a result, industrial workers see job opportunities dwindling further and unemployment levels rising

of light given off. The color given off by neon itself is reddish-orange. Neon lighting was invented by French chemist Georges Claude (1870-1960). Claude displayed his first neon sign at the Paris Exposition of 1910. He sold the first neon advertising sign to a Paris barber two years later. Neon lighting is now used for many other purposes. For example, neon tubes are used in instruments used to detect electric currents. Neon is also used in the manufacture of lasers. Health effects There are no known health effects of neon. Thank you for your kind attention. Due the shortage of the time I give the word to the next student.

Pay-for performance: necessary or unsuitable way to increase efficiency in the public sector

work. (Randma-Liiv 2005) Compensating and motivating employees plays important role in governmental jobs- it helps to attract, motivate and retain qualified workers in the field. Success of pay-for performance tool has been discussed in many ways. Some researchers like Murphy and Cleveland (1995) support the success stories brining out examples why it is necessary, some like Ingraham (1993) are not that optimistic about it and draws attention on its negative effects. To tell weather pay-for performance is good or a bad “thing” we need to discuss positive influence and negative impact of it and weight the results. Next discussion based on different scholars articles (Mogultay 2006, Hays 2010, Weibel et al. 2009) helps us to to that. What pay-for performance aims to do, is that it should boost public sector performance, as it does in private sector. The aim is to affect and motivate civil servants in a way, that they make “better” decisions

Ütlen, mis on tehtud, ütlen, mis on tegemata jäänud, ütlen, kuidas mina tühimiku täidan. Meie teema/nišš: 1. uurimisvaldkond: isiksuse/iseloomu muutus joobeseisundis. Varasemad uuringud on hõlmanud vaid ühe või kahe iseloomuomaduse uurimist. 2. nišši loomine: Despite the abundance of evidence that alcohol affects many aspects of a drinker’s mood, affect, and behavior, researchers (Winograd et al., 2012) have only recently begun to describe these effects within a single organizational framework, specifically, the five-factor model of personality. Indeed, this comprehensive approach is well-suited for capturing the wide range of effects experienced and behaviors exhibited by drinkers under the influence of alcohol, often referred to as “drunken comportment” (MacAndrew & Edgerton, 1969). Savanna

In addition to this cattle and horses are implicated in the spread of the seeds of weed species such as Prickly Acacia and Stylo. These alterations in savanna species composition brought about by grazing can alter ecosystem function, and are exacerbated by overgrazing and poor land management practices. Introduced grazing animals can also affect soil condition through physical compaction and break-up of the soil caused by the hooves of animals and through the erosion effects caused by the removal of protective plant cover. Such effects are most likely to occur on land subjected to repeated and heavy grazing. The effects of overstocking are often worst on soils of low fertility and in low rainfall areas below 500 mm, as most soil nutrients in these areas tend to be concentrated in the surface so any movement of soil can lead to severe degradation. Alteration in soil structure and nutrient levels affects the establishment, growth and survival of plant species

Arvustus "The Queen"

their princess had died. It was phenomenal to see that all the people in England kept together like one big family. There were also some things that I didn´t liked about the film. I didn´t liked the way how the Queen acted after Diana´s death. She didn´t showed her feelings and at first she didn´t even cry. To my mind it was very weird. I was quite disappointed because there wasn´t showed Diana´s accident. And what about music? I think there should be more music and sound effects. The actor who I liked the most was the one who played the prime minister, Tony Blair. I was impressed by his ability to change quickly his moods. At the one moment he was serious and the few minutes later he was joking and laughing. I didn´t liked Helen Mirren, who played the Queen. I think she was a little bit fake and I didn´t believe all the words what she said. Also I didn't liked that she was callous and apathetic. But when she had to play her role like that, she played it well.
