La Celestina Ejercicio de Traducción

infallibly true. The first is, that every man of force love a woman, and every woman love a man. The second is, that he who truly loves, must of necessity be much troubled and moved with the sweetness of that superexcellent delight which was ordained by Him that made all things, for the perpetuating of mankind, without which it must needs perish. (Mabbe p 63) Prose The most distinctive element of the original passage is it's sexual tone in its explanation of "true love." Celestina basically says that Calisto is suffering from being horny all the time, and that God made them that way so humans could propagate. In the same passage, "forzoso" is related to love between man and woman. Somehow men are, literally, forced to love women. I have a major in biophysics, so I'm thinking of a physical force that hypothetically pushes a man

Argumentative essay - time changes things

But that doesn’t make time responsible for change. For example, if you are depressed and you cry constantly and you don’t make a change, the same problem will be in your face very day. Time and Change are both constant, but their relationship is random. Over the passage of time, changes will take place, but what that change will be is not controlled by time. In conclusion, If you want things to change for the better, you can either wait to see what changes take place over the passage of time, or you can choose to change the situation yourself. Ofcourse it takes an effort and you won’t always be succesful in changing things better. But in my opinion, it is always better trying to change things yourself than sit around and wait.

Exposing the Human Condition in Antigone

As is brought out later, Kreon never listened to other peoples advice until it was too late. In the above passage Antigone heroically faces up to the most powerful man, the King, knowing he could kill her in an instance, but still she tells him he is wrong. Being strongly tied to a family, where you would risk death is one thing, but as in any family a person usually takes their anger and frustrations out on individual family members, as in this passage on page 24, lines 100-103: "Then weakness will be your plea./I am different. I love my brother/and I'm going to bury him, now." Antigone, non-heroically, accuses Ismene of not loving her brother, but of course Ismene loved her brother, Ismene was just afraid of the king. Antigone, in the heat of the moment, took Ismene's frightened state as a sign of the lack of love on Ismene's part. On page 39, lines 550-558, Antigone accuses King Kreon that his decisions were contrary to what the

The Book I Advice to Read and Why

The Book I Advice to Read and Why. I've recently read a book which has made a very deep impression on me. It is called The Fifth Mountain and it gets really unforgettable reading. The author of the book is Paulo Coelho. He is my favourite writer, so I can recommend almost all his books I read. His plots always mislead the reader and keep him in suspense. 61 The Fifth Mountain is a work inspired by a biblical passage which seeks to reconcile all contradictions of the soul, and which intends to be an excellent advisor in times of confusion and reflection. 95 The story of the prophet Elijah is an invaluable lesson of hope for the contemporary man. To what point can we predict our own destiny? This is the question that hangs in the air over The Fifth Mountain. Paulo Coelho brings out the universal themes of how faith and love can ultimately triumph over.

the 19 December 1851. He was an English Romantic landscape painter, watercolourist and printmaker. Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as "the painter of light". Painting: The subject of the painting is the practice of 18th century slave traders who would throw the dead and dying human 'cargo' overboard during the middle passage in the Atlantic Ocean. Turner was inspired by two sources: by the Zong Massacre of slaves and by lines from James Thomson's The Seasons (The Zong Massacre was the name given to the mass-killing of African slaves that took place in 1781 on the Zong). The violent power of the sea and the strange sea creatures represent the forces of nature punishing the guilty. The painting was widely admired for its use of colour and the way in which sea and sky merge around the distant ship

How Are Black Women Portrayed in the Novel? The story begins in the early nineteenth century when the main protagonist Antoinette is a young girl. A white girl Antoinette is the daughter of the ex-slave owners, but it is the time when the passage of the Emancipation Act takes places. This means that black slaves are freed and led to the demise of many white slave owners. Because of this act, black men and women start to feel more powerful and superior towards the ex-slave owners. Throughtout Antoinette´s childhood, hostility is present between the weakened white aristocracy and the black servants they employ. Stonehenge

More recently two major new theories have been proposed. Mike Parker Pearson, head of the Stonehenge Riverside Project, has suggested that Stonehenge was part of a ritual landscape and was joined to Durrington Walls by their corresponding avenues and the River Avon. The area around Durrington Walls henge was a land of the living, whilst Stonehenge was a domain of the dead. A journey along the Avon to reach Stonehenge was part of a ritual passage from life to death, to celebrate past ancestors and the recently deceased. [11] On the other hand, Geoffery Wainwright, president of the Society of Antiquaries of London, and Timothy Darvill have suggested that Stonehenge was a place of healing the primeval equivalent of Lourdes. [12] They argue that this accounts for the high number of burials in the area and for the evidence of trauma deformity in some of the graves. However they do

Martin Luther King Jr. ''I have a dream'' kõne analüüs

Martin Luther King uses the valleys, hills, mountains and rough places to symbolically represent racial inequalities and hardships across the land that must be corrected. The distance between the low and high points represents the equality gap that he wishes to reduce. He conveys this by stating they "shall be exalted", "made low" and "made straight”. By using these words to create imagery he adds further depth and meaning to this passage. Another literary device present in this speech would be parallelism as seen in the following sentence: ‘’With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day’’. The repetition of the word ‘’together’’ promotes a sense of alliance and makes the statement more memorable. The use of parallelism

The Quebec Liberal Party has traditionally supported a form of Quebec federalism that supports Quebec remaining within the Canadian federation while also supporting reforms that would allow Quebec substantial autonomy. 23. Tsehhov daam koeraga Chekov Lady and the Lapdog

Th e story ends with their tryst in Moscow and a wrenching discussion of the impossibility of their situation -- he cannot leave his wife because of the loss of status and wealth that a divorce would entail, and she cannot leave her husband and family for much the same reason -- yet they pledge to one another to carry on with their aff air because they are now clearly in love with one another. Just after sex TY What is missing from this passage in English is the asymmetrical use o the second-person pronouns in the Russian original. Gurov addresses Anna throughout as ty while she addresses him throughout as vy. Because of his unhappy marriage and the ease with which he had always been able to enter into brief aff airs, Gurov had long considered women "a lower breed." So now, aft er he and Anna have had sex, he addresses Anna as he would anyone who had proven herself to be of the "lower breed," with a slight degree of contempt.

The English Patient

Hana fell asleep, holding her head on his breast. Their romance started. A while Kip was dealing with the bombs David helped Almasy to recall his past. He used morphine. Almasy started talking. His job was to make observations, draw maps, and search for ancient oases in the sands. In 1936 Geoffrey Clifton and his new wife Katharine, joined their party. Geoffrey owned a plane, which the party found especially useful in helping to map the desert. In one night Katharine read one passage form Herodotus. Almasy realised that he loves her and her voice. They became lovers. He was crazy about her. He wanted to claim her right shoulder he's, but he reconsidered, because he loved hallow under the neck. In 1938, Katharine broke off their affair, telling Almasy that Geoffrey would go mad if he ever found out. Geoffrey somehow found out about the affair. until mid-December for primary and secondary schools and polytechnics, and from late February until mid-November for universities. Plants and animal life: For millions of years New Zealand has been isolated and unique birds, animals and plants have developed here. Best known are flightless birds such as the Kiwi. Because there were no ground based enemies for ancient birds many lost there ability to fly with the passage of time. Lizards, frogs, and bats are the only indigenous land animals in New Zealand. Dogs (kiri) and rats were introduced by the Maori, and red and fallow deer, trout, salmon, Australian opossum, rabbits, and domestic animals have been introduced over the last 150 years by European settlers. There are now strict regulations with very heavy penalties against the importing of plants, fruit and animals unless

Stonehenge - lühikokkuvõte inglise keeles

On the other hand, Professor Mike Parker Pearson of Sheffield University has suggested that Stonehenge was part of a ritual landscape and was joined to Durrington Walls by their corresponding avenues and the River Avon. He suggests that the area around Durrington Walls Henge was a place of the living, whilst Stonehenge was a domain of the dead. A journey along the Avon to reach Stonehenge was part of a ritual passage from life to death, to celebrate past ancestors and the recently deceased.] Whatever religious, mystical or spiritual elements were central to Stonehenge, its design includes a celestial observatory function, which might have allowed prediction of eclipse, solstice, equinox and other celestial events important to a contemporary religion. As motorised traffic increased, the setting of the monument began to be affected by the

Estuary English - A Controversial Issue?

between RP and Cockney, and according to him they can display various shades of EE either towards the Cockney or the RP end of this continuum. Maidment (1994) represents this definition by means of Diagram 1 and points to the fact that such a depiction of Estuary English would indicate that there are rigid boundaries between Cockney and EE, and EE and RP. [Cockney][EE][RP] [I <---Cockney---> F] [I <---RP---> F] [I <---EE---> F] The difficulties in deciding whether a certain passage of speech can be recognised as Estuary English lies in the "fuzziness of the boundaries between EE and Cockney, and EE and RP" (Maidment 1994), which is the consequence of an overlap between the formal style of Cockney and informal style of EE, and the formal style of EE and the informal style of RP. Several studies have been designed to determine whether such boundary markers exist and whether they can function separately or collectively only. One of such

Puritanism in John Winthrop "A model of Christian Charity"

that the Bible was God’s guide for them on how to live accurately and follow his word. God’s authority was the only and the best authority. Because of this belief, a lot of images and figures of God has been put into the sermon – to determine the idea even more. Another aspect very characteristic to the Puritanism era is the choice of messages from the Bible. It was common to choose a clear message to the audience rather to choose a topic and preach that concrete passage to them. As mentioned before, they made the message very simple and plain for the audience to understand and follow. Messages in Winthrop sermon are also chosen with a deep but simple meaning, such as if you serve God well and follow him, success will come to you; working hard was for the honor of God; God knows your fate already since your birth, etc. All these messages were broadly about predestination and its importance

My Town

The main attractions are in the two old towns (Lower Town and Toompea) which are both easily explored on foot. Eastern districts around Pirita and Kadriorg are also worth visiting and the Estonian Open Air Museum (Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum) near Rocca al Mare, west of the city, preserves aspects of Estonian rural culture and architecture. My 5 favourite places in the Old Town are Tall Hermann, the viewing points in Toompea, St. Olaf's Church, Town Hall Square and Bun Passage. For centuries Toompea was always inhabited by the ruling classes. In the Middle Ages, it was the place where the bishops and the nobility resided. Here the landed gentry built their beautiful town houses. Most of the remaining buildings were erected after the big fire on Toompea in 1684. Historically, the fortress on Toompea consisted of two parts: the small fortress (today's Toompea Castle) and the big fortress (the rest of Toompea).
