    Dear Mary - Alice ,
It’s been ages since I last wrote to you, isn’t it weird ? Yes, so it is, but, I do have a certain reason .
Do you remember Sir Thom of the Minquettes’? That fine young man with fascinating blue eyes … Oh, my sweet Mary , you will never guess what happened yesterday !
It was about seven o’ clock in the evening when Lillian called me out for a walk – you know I can’t say ‘no’ to my little sis. Anyway – we went to the forest near the Swan Lake and, believe it or not, got lost ! Awful! I was so scared… We walked and walked, not even knowing the direction we were heading to, until we reached a huge mansion. And the garden around it was so extraordinary… That is something you just must see! But neither the trees nor flowers could be as wonderful as the owner himself ! Sir Thom treated us tea and sandwiches, not forgetting to show us way back to the village . He was so kind, don’t you think?
In the end, when we had nearly reached our home, he suddenly stopped and called us to a ball! Can you imagine ?! A ball with Sir Thom! What an honour … I bet Emily Woodcut will be envious. What about you, Mary? Have you made plans for the summer ? I’d really like to introduce you to him – after all, you are the governor’s daughter . Then his opinion of me will raise even higher , right?
So what do you think? Would you like to pay a visit to Cherry village this summer?
Can’t wait to your letter !
    Best wishes,
    Anne C.

2.1 Read the text (“The Girl from the Darkness ” by C. Blossom ) and answer the questions below.
/…/Barely able to stand still, she left the crime scene and moved towards nothingness, since white fog had swollen all muddy streets of the sleeping capital.
She walked and walked, until she found herself in a park – or was it a garden ? Creepy bare trees surrounded her sight , leaving scary shadows all over the dark grass ; the moonlight was weaknothing much could be seen . In the distance , there was probably a nice house with a warm heat burning in the fireplace and a table filled with all kinds of dishes – yes, the girl could almost feel the warmth and she closed her eyes to keep the illusion .
However , the feeling didn’t disappear even after her consciousness returned. Slowly she opened her pitch black sad eyes and saw that someone was holding her; someone so strong and warm – someone, who had saved her from an endless fall.
    It was a man.
But not an ordinary one as she soon realized: he was tall – much taller than she was; his golden hair brushed with care behind ears mixed with her long dark and light blue smiling eyes stared into hers as he carried her somewhere… but where?
    “Where are we going?”
    “Home.”
His low voice was gentle as he spoke, yet lonely – girl could understand that.
Suddenly she felt a drop falling on her soft marzipan cheek . The man was crying.
“Why? Why are you so sad?”
“Because you are, aren ’t you?”
What an unexpected behaviour towards a stranger whom had invaded his garden.
    “Who are you?”

2.2 Read the text and answer the questions below. (“ Mystery and Misery ” by C.Blossom)
/…/She was all alone now, and as years passed, everyone else forgot about their tiny beauty . Soon the girl, too, forgot her name, and as one day she decided to write a letter to the new queen , she was forced to sign it with a new name.
“What could it be?” she wondered , “Hey, Mystery, may I take your name?”
But the kitten seemed disappointed, so she decided not to do so.
“Well, but I can’t sign it as the-nameless-one! Oh, I do have an idea ! My name will be Misery – after all, so many years have passed with that feeling only… What do you think, Mystery?”
The cat smiled and brought a marzipan candy .
“Is it for me? Thank you so much!”
Mystery grinned again and flew out to catch some pigeons.
    The little girl wrote:
    Dear Queen,
I am very sorry for not showing up in your court and on your coronation ceremony; however, I do have a considerable reason: my deep feelings for the last Queen and my mother hadn’t fully calmed – as you probably know, there was a disastrous illness in the kingdom that took many dear ones to me. And I am truly sorry for not writing this letter sooner, but, to be honest, I had suffered loneliness for so long, that, eventually, I had forgotten my name.
If you don’t mind, I’d gladly come over someday soon and accept my lucky duty as your priestess, and, perhaps , even as a friend.
    Best wishes,
    Misery
She enveloped the letter and called a servant.
Susanna , take this letter to Her Majesty,” she said, “and tell her to hurry with the answer, I can’t stay in this dark tower much longer.”
Susanna smiled and bowed her curly red-haired head. She was very happy to join the rest of the castle again.
After eating the candy, Misery felt very tired. But instead of heading to the bedroom, she opened her wide white wings and flew out – to the royal park.
The day was warm and sunny ; in the gardens many flowers had started their colourful blooming, decorating tasteless gravy castle walls.
Misery landed on the juicy green grass and looked up in the light blue sky – and soundless tears fell down her pale cheeks: this was the sky the previous queen and her mother had liked. She thought of them and warm memories just ran into her head, making her cry sound even more heart -breaking. Fortunately, she thought, no one was there to see her. But she miscalculated.
The same moment a fine- looking young blonde man came out from the bushes. His eyes matched the sky perfectly and the girl wondered if they were not cut out from the Heavens.
    “Hello,” said the man.
“Good morning ,” replied Misery, “May I ask you one thing – what are you doing here?”
    The man seemed surprised.
“Where have you been the past ten years?”
“There, “laughed the girl and pointed to the tower.
However, the stranger didn’t believe her.
“This tower is a cursed one – no one has ever been there. My mom says an evil witch lives there waiting for the darkness to rise again…”
“A witch ? Now really – am I that frightening?”
The man smiled and said in a pleasant voice, “To my mind you are very pretty – so it’s impossible for you to live there. The demon has black wings and a power to spread disease , too.”
“I don’t know about the last fact , but I do have wings, actually.”
“Yea right – and cats can fly! That’s not even a laughing matter to my mind.”
“Apart from your good looks, you sure can be rude ,” said Misery in a low voice.
The man stared blankly back at her – they were both angry now.
“Well, I am sorry for disturbing you, but it’s really time for me to go now. Farewell .”
And the light-haired man disappeared to a tunnel leading to the royal labyrinth.
Misery took secretly quite a liking to him – so she decided to follow . /…/

    Heartless

Heartless It was one late evening when a little blond girl, aged between 7-8, ran quietly across the Ninth Avenue and entered one of the old houses that were lining the road. Inside she went smoothly though the corridors and soon reached a wooden door. After knocking twice a voice from inside called "Enter!" and the child went in. The room was filled with the smoke of numberless cigarettes. The girl, however, made no emotion and came closer to the old and ugly man sitting behind the table. "I wasn't lucky today, Grandpa," whispered the child and her light blue eyes filled with tears as she talked. The man smoked soundlessly, not even glancing at the girl. "But I'll go again, tomorrow, and bring you twice the money! I promise! So don't punish me, okay?" The man stood up and walked slowly towards the girl. "I promised your mother to take care of you, yet, if you are useless in even collecting money from the rich, I can't help you! This is the end, Hear

    One story

One story Laurel was sitting on her bed, but everything around her was still gone. She thought it was just a dream some moments ago, but now she was certain something was wrong with her eyes. The background wasn't totally black, there were some lighter and darker places...but it didn't help her to get to the door. Slowly, almost millimeter-by-millimeter she moved to the other side of her small room, watching out for the things that were lying on the ground. "What are you doing, Laurel?" a sudden voice from somewhere behind called. The girl turned around and saw some blue stripes waving, but soon they were gone again. "Um, who is it?" she asked after a minute of silence, but the person who stood there was already gone. The next noise she heard were someone's fast, almost running feet on the stairs that led to her chamber-room. Soon the door opened and a warm hug followed it was her older sister, Mary. Laurel wanted to say `good morning!' like she always did, but something in sis
