Character Sketch-Shug Avery The Color Purple by Alice Walker Shug Avery was a very passionate African-American blues singer, and I believe quite a lot throughout the novel. Her evolvement was interesting to observe. First impression of her wasn’t positive because she appeared rather inelegant and also quite selfish. In essence, she seemed to be unlikable as well as superficial. Shug (originally Lilly) didn’t really embrace herself and adopted a nickname – “Shug”. However she developed a sexual relationship with Celie and with that broke the boundaries of traditional gender roles. She was outspoken, exteremely honest and not easy to affect. All her three children were born out of wedlock. She is a good example of sexuality and gender not being as univocal and simplistic topics as they may seem since she was a bisexual (sexual relationship with Celie). She Set a Path for a Modern-Day Woman Jordan Baker did not play a primary character in The Great Gatsby and she definitely did not start out as the most likeable one, yet oddly enough, she ended up being my favourite. The reason for that is simple: she portrayed a present-day woman who might have been vain, and at times, careless but she was also fairly independent and knew how to take care of herself in a world where women were thought of as nothing more than merely housewives. I truly respect the qualities she possessed, even though they were not always admirable and considerate of others. The number one trait I liked about Jordan as a character was her independence and the fact that she was not reliant on men, which cannot be said about Daisy and Myrtle. All the female characters were in their twenties but Jordan was the only one who

But Hamlet was mean to her, so his uncle thinks Hamlet knows he killed his father and that's why he's mad. Ophelia goes crazy because Hamlet says he doesn't love her and she drowns herself. Her brother blames Hamlet and challenges him to a duel. At the duel, Claudius puts poison in a glass of wine and on the swords because he wants to kill Hamlet. The Queen drinks the wine by mistake and dies. Hamlet and Ophelia's brother stab one another with the poison swords and they both die, but Hamlet kills the king just before he dies.

Why learn English? Nowadays English plays a major international role. Personally I believe, that in order to survive in present society we have to, at least, know the basic English, because almost everything is based on English. Firstly English is the international language and knowing English shows the eruditeness of people, because every person who considers him or herself to be educated has learnt it. English has switched places with Latin, which once was the language of educated people. Not to mention the fact that people can use it for communication with eachother. In my opinion it is not necessary to learn that country's mother tongue while most of the people are able to talk in English. I find that English connects different people and helps us to feel like a big multicultural family.
