Pine trees

Pine trees Short Leaf Pine Tree Pine Tree Pine Tree Types Pines are among the most well-known coniferous trees in the world. They thrive in temperate mountainous regions, but can also survive in tropical spots in the northern hemisphere. Among the most popular types of Pine trees are: ·Scotch Pine: Commonly found in North America where it is commercially grown as a Christmas tree, the Scotch Pine is known for its beautiful bluish-green needles and full shape. ·Ponderosa Pine: Popular among landscapers, the large Ponderosa can grow up to 80 feet tall. Its pyramidal shape and long needles make it an excellent choice for a windbreaker on large properties.

coldness and eventually heart failure. However, death occurs so rapidly that many times the symptoms are missed. Fatal poisoning in humans is very rare, only occurring after eating a lot of yew foliage. Traditional uses In recent years it has been found that taxol, a chemical found in the bark of the yew, inhibits cell growth and cell division, and may have some promise in the fight against cancer. It was also one of the most important trees in the history of European warfare, as its wood was used exclusively for the making of the longbows, spears and dagger handles. In the past they were used as landmarks, because of their size and longevity, and their dark branches would make them stand out in the landscape. It is excellent for furniture making, interior, fences, gates, chairs, doors, tables, and rustic furniture. Where the Yew Grows It is also possible to find small trees growing near bigger trees, which

Temperate deciduous forests, woodlands and shrub

Also are finded in tempered areas of South America. Climate: The average temperature in temperate forests is 50° F. Summers are mild, and average about 70° F, while winter temperatures are often well blow freezing. The average yearly precipitation is 30-60 inches. This precipitation falls throughout the year, but in the winter it falls as snow. There are four seasons in this biome, with warm summers and cold winters, often snowy. In autumn, the leaves change color and fall from the trees. The leaves decay on the forest floor, so the soil is very rich. Because of this, and because of the long growing season, many deciduous forests have been cut down for farming purposes. Plants: Trees of this biome include hardwoods such as maple, oak, hickory, and beech. There are often some evergreens, such as hemlock, spruce, and fir growing amongst them. Decidous forests have usually 3-5 layers of plants; Top layer, or canopy: tall deciduous trees.

Many forest insects are capable of attacking and feeding upon healthy trees. Other insects can only feed on deceased or damaged trees. Food Supply Mature Timber overmature, decadent and suppressed trees usually offer susceptile material for barkbeetle attack. Defoliated Trees trees that have stripped of their leaves by defoliating insects. Diseased Trees diseases that defoliate trees may render them susceptile to the attacks of cambiumfeeding insects. deciduous forest). Tropical rainforest South America, Africa (Madagaskar), Asia. Tropical deciduous forest South America, Asia, Australia 3. Compare the climates (tropical rainforest/tropical deciduous forest). Tropical rainforest is wetter than tropical deciduous forest. Both of these biomes have a warm climate all year long. Tropical deciduous forest has a well defined dry and a wet season. During the dry season, the trees in tropical deciduous forest lose their leaves. 4. Using the climate diagram describe the climate of the region (tropical rainforest/tropical deciduous forest). 5. Why are tropical rainforest soils not fertile? Because rapid bacterial decay prevents the accumulation of humus. 6. How do the soils in tropical deciduous forest differ from the soils in tropical rainforest? The soil in tdf has more nutrients, because the leaves fall down and trees grow more sparsely. 7

Describe these layers Emergents The canopy trees are tall, but some species grow even taller until they stick right out above the canopy. These are called 'emergents' and can reach almost 90m in height. Up here they don't have to compete with other trees for light, but they are exposed to the high winds that lash the canopy during tropical storms. Emergents are the favourite nest sites of jungle eagles such as the harpy eagle of South America. Canopy Suspended 40m above the ground is the canopy - a belt of tree crowns supported by enormous rainforest tree trunks. This is the most productive and diverse habitat on Earth - perhaps 40% of the world's species spend their lives among its branches. The canopy's function is to photosynthesise

spruces, will it have interaction to the whole world? It's extremely difficult to answer, because there are so many factors. 4. slaid Renewable resources have became metaphor with meaning that its easy way to produce energy. Its easy to destroy our forests but it changes our ecosystem. They cause blowdowns, erosions and so on. 5.slaid scope of history Forests sometimes need to be updated. We need to take down trees with diseases. But we cant cut down trees which have cultural information in them. There may have some text beaten in from thousands years ago. Here is a tree which has old bicycle in it. 6.slaid Scientist may strive and work out ,,safe" genetical plant modificating but do we investigate these trees enough, before we start using in forestry? We will never know what could happen. It may not happen today or tomorrow but it can happen in next century

Natural zones and flora of Australia

Natural Zones and Flora. There are five distinguishable natural zones in Australia. In the very east there are wet forests (1.) that occupy the space between the Great Dividing Range and the eastern coast. Westward from the Great Dividing Range the wet forests give place to beautiful grasslands with some trees . These grasslands are called the savannas (2.). Farther west the trees disappear and the bushlands (3.) begin. The real desert (4.) occupies the centre of the Western Plateau. In the very southwest there are thin forests of evergreen trees (5.). Most of Australian trees are kinds of eucalyptus trees (or gum trees to Australians) and acacia ( wattle to Australians). Eucalyptus trees are found everywhere in Australia. There are many kinds of them and they greatly differ in size. One kind, the

Savanna

Savanna A savanna is a grassland ecosystem with scattered trees or shrubs. In savannas trees are small or widely spaced so that the canopy does not close. It is often believed that savannas are characterized by widely spaced, scattered trees, however in many savanna communities tree densities are higher and trees are more regularly spaced than in forest communities. The open canopy allows sufficient light to reach the ground to support an unbroken herbaceous layer consisting primarily of C4 grasses. Savannas are also characterised by seasonal water availability, with the majority of rainfall being confined to one season of the year. Savannas can be associated with several types of biomes. Savannas are frequently seen as a transitional zone, occurring between forest and desert or prairie.

cubs safely. But most of these animals get into zoo's in their childhood and when they are grown-up, they can't be put back in the wild-life, cause they cant manage to get food on their own etc. And the places, where the poachers hunt these animals, should be guarded, that the poachers would be captured. Deforestation Also, deforestation is dangerous to animals. Deforestation means, when trees are often cut down, to produce furniture or something else. When the trees are cut down, animals have no place to live or hide themselves from the hunters, so many of them become extinct. Trees, including forests play an important part of the air, that we breathe, cause they produce oxygen, so the less trees and plants, the less oxygen. But there are often held planting campaigns, where people plant their own tree and during a few years, the trees are high

Almond Blossoms by Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in southern Netherlands. At the age of 37 he commited suicide after years of fighting with mental illness. He died on 27 July 1890. The Almond Blossom is a oil painting done on a canvas. Large white blossom branches like this against a blue sky were one of Van Gogh’s favourite subjects. Almond trees flower early in the spring making them a symbol of new life. They represented awakening and hope. He enjoyed them aesthetically and found joy in painting flowering trees. The blossoms of the apricot, peach and plum trees motivated him, and within a month he had created fourteen paintings of blossoming fruit trees. Excited by the subject matter, van Gogh completed nearly one painting a day.The works reflect the influence of Impressionism, Divisionism, and Japanese woodcuts

Temperate deciduous forest: Brown forest soils develop under the trees. Broadleaf trees tend to be nutrient-demanding and their leaves bind the major nutrient bases. The autumn leaf fall provides for an abundant and rich humus which begins to decay rapidly in spring just as the growing season begins. The humus content gives soil horizons a brown colour. Temperate rainforest: This forest has nutrient-rich soil because there is a lot of dead organic matter on the ground. This dead material is being slowly digested by the fungi, insects, and bacteria that live here

Forests cover approximately 30% of land and 9.4% of all the planet earth. They are also responsible for regulating our planet's climate and act as large purifiers of airs, by absorbing carbon dioxide, and giving out oxygen. Different types of forests Forests are divided into following main types: o Tropical forest o Subtropical forest o Plantations o Boreal forest o Temperate forest o Seasonal or monsoon forest Tropical and Subtropical Forests

In deciduous forests there are five different zones. The deciduous forest has four distinct seasons, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In the autumn the leaves change color. During the winter months the trees lose their leaves. The animals adapt to the climate by hibernating in the winter and living off the land in the other three seasons. DesertDeserts cover about one fifth of the Earth's land surface. Deserts temperature ranges from 20 to 25° C. The extreme maximum temperature ranges from 43.5 to 49°. Hot and Dry Deserts usually have very little rainfall and concentrated rainfall in short periods between long rainless periods. Most Hot and Dry Deserts don't have very many plants

The park might appear natural , but in fact it is almost entirely landscaped. Every tree, plant, lake and pond has been planted and made by human hands. Central Park, home to over 25,000 trees, has a stand of 1,700 American Elms, one of the largest remaining stands of in the north- eastern U.S. You can also observe many mammals and birds. Raccoons and opposums who come down from the trees to feed at night, have become extremely common in Central Park in recent years. Life in Estonia through the eyes of an economics student

I find it being quite impressive. There are some fields which Estonia can fill with supplies by itself. We are nearly energy independent country, supplying over 90% of our electricity need with locally mined oil shale. Estonia has also an alternative energy sources such as wood and peat. I could call myself earth friendly because I love walking around the forest and breading some fresh air but I do not like the knowing that somewhere else our own people are cutting down the trees and mining oil shale for eleritcity and warmth but I know that we need those two things to survive and it does not make any different if we cut the trees in Estonia or in Finland. There are some sacrifices people need to make to live on. We also have an excellent infrastructure in fact railway transport dominates the cargo sector, compromising 70% of all carried goods, domestic and international, approximately 7,5% of the country´s workforce is employed in transportation

project. Available space analysis On the schematic site plan of the Northern Pointe site, a total area of some 200 feet by 450 feet is indicated as the proposed maximum extent of below grade development. In addition, we believe that a 345 feet by 475 feet area to the north of the community center may be considered for future inclusion in Northern Pointe development plans, although it is not under consideration in this study. Preservation of thirtyone major trees identified in the northeast corner of the site would significantly reduce the total space available for development. It is recommended that the soil should remain undisturbed within 25 feet of the perimeter of the trees’ root systems. Consequently, an area of some 185 feet by 320 feet would be excluded from development plans in an effort to preserve the grove of Douglas Fir trees. Preliminary analysis of the site has indicated that it would be feasible to construct three below grade levels

ENVIRONMENT Peole say that it is better to read newspapers online, because to not use paper so much. Paper are made of woods. Trees are very important to environment, because trees are oxygene producers. People pollute the air by driving the car, using scentes and burning rubbish in the fire. Thats why is very important that the air all the time to be produced. Therefore, people says that it would be better to read newspapers online. People would really think about it more on how to keep their land. We could sort our rubbish more carefully, and certainly to not drop it down. I think all people can do something to save ours Earth.

Mangrove forest

MIS ON MANGROVE FOREST ÜLDSE? Mangrove swamps are found in tropical and subtropical tidal areas. Many mangrove forests can be recognized by their dense tangle of prop roots that make the trees appear to be standing on stilts above the water. This tangle of roots allows the trees to handle the daily rise and fall of tides, which means that most mangroves get flooded at least twice per day. The roots also slow the movement of tidal waters, causing sediments to settle out of the water and build up the muddy bottom. KAARDIGA SLAID Mangroves can be found in over 118 countries and territories in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The largest percentage of mangroves is found between 5° (degrees hääldad seda kraadi märki) North and 5° South latitudes

and thoughlessness. In Estonia there are too many old cars and other vehicles, which exhaust fumes that pollute air what we breathe. Although, there are some newer vehicles like busses and cars that contaminate less and even few electric cars, people do not pay enough attention to it. When the levels of pollution are too high, it may cause some serious diseases. The second aspect is that people fell quite a lot of trees, but that is not so big problem. In Estonia there are a lot of forests and groves. Also, people are planting new trees all the time and know abot the importance of green. Lastly, one of the issues is that people consume too much and therefore produce a lot of garbage. Most of the people recycle things like plastic, bottles and paper, but some do not know or care what kind of damage growing landfills can make.

Description of an animal

Endangered animal koala bear Though often called the koala "bear," this cuddly animal is not a bear at all, it is a marsupial. Koalas live in eastern Australia, where the eucalyptus trees they love are most plentiful. In fact, they rarely leave these trees. That is why they are usually called "treehuggers". Koalas have thick, grayish fur, with white on their chests, inner arms, and ears. They have large furry ears and leathery noses. The koala has large, sharp claws to assist with climing tree trunks. The koala is one of the few mammals that have fingerprints. Koalas do not live in big groups, they rather prefer to be alone. REPORT

Water and noise pollution is low because there are no cities around here. Wildlife is good and getting better because we have beautiful forests near Poku which gives good living and development places for wild animals. Paper and glass recycling is well organized. We have paper and glass containers and workers are cleaning them daily basis. Due to the fact that overall life in Poku is good we still have some problematic things to consider. Nowadays government has started to cut trees near Poku. This affects development of animals living in these areas because it takes away living areas of these animals. Air pollution is also rising because of overall pollution coming from distant cities and from cars that tourists use to visit the area. People who are visiting Poku are also leaving too much trash behind. Plastic and chemicals recycling is also problematic because right now there is little ways to recycle them.

E One day the Giant came back. F One morning the Giant was lying awake in bed when he heard some lovely music. G Then spring came, and all over the country there were flowers and little birds. The Selfish Giant 1 C It was a large lovely garden with soft green grass. Here and there over the grass stood beautiful flowers like stars and birds sat on the trees and sang so sweetly that the children stopped their games to listen to them. 2 E He had been to visit his friend, and had stayeed with him for seven years. When he arrived, he saw the children playing in the garden. "What are you doing here?" he roared and the children ran away. So he built a high wall all round his garden. He was a very selfish giant. The poor children had nowhere to play now.

Text about Disc Golf

Disc golf, is a flying disc game, as well as a precision and accuracy sport, in which individual players throw a flying disc at a target. The early history of disc golf is closely tied to the history of the recreational flying disc and may have been invented in the early 1900s.The first known instance of anyone playing golf with a flying disc occurred in Canada in 1926. Ronald Gibson and a group of his Bladworth Elementary School buddies played a game throwing tin plates at targets such as trees and fence posts. They called the game Tin Lid Golf and played on a fairly regular basis on a disc golf course they laid out on their school grounds. But, after they grew older and went their separate ways, the game came to an end. Modern disc golf started in the early 1960s, when it seems to have been invented in many places and by many people independently. Students at Rice University in Houston, Texas, for example, held tournaments with trees as targets in 1963, and in the early 1960s

and the megapode and cassowary. Marsupials and mammals include cuscus, tree kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, spiny anteaters and, in the coastal waters, the dugong. There are between 170 and 200 species of frog and 450 species of butterfly. /3/ 4 The forests of New Guinea Richer and more diverse in species than their montane counterparts, the lowland forests of southern New Guinea are the home of more than 1,200 species of trees. Lowland rainforests are demanding ecosystems. They need at least 2,500 mm of rainfall per year, and they only show the greatest species diversity on well-drained sites. /2/ Soil When seeing the rich canopy and massive trees of the lowland canopy, one is tempted to believe that the soils are very rich. In fact, the soil layer is thin and is easily leached of its nutrients compared to the highlands. /2/ Lowland forest Beyond 1,000 m, the lowland forest gives way to montane forests. Here,

Australia topic

The Coral Sea is the warmest that is why many corals live in the seas. The skeletons of these tiny organisms have formed a great belt of coral- called the Great Barrier Reef. Its is 2000 km long and 2-150 km wide. There are five distinguishable natural zones in Australia. In the very east there are wet forests that occupy the space between the Great Dividing Range and the eastern coast. The wet forests give place to beautiful grasslands with some trees called the savannas. Farther west the trees disappear and the bushlands begin. The real desert occupies the centre of the Western Plateau. In the very southwest there are thin forests of evergreen trees. Most of Australian trees are kinds of eucalyptus (or gum tree to Australians) and acacia (wattle of Australians). Eucalyptuses give the people timber and eucalyptus oil. Of 600 kinds of acacias the golden wattle, the national flower of Australia, is the best known.

Australia.

Natural zones: Although most of Australia is barren and arid or covered with deserts, there are five distinguishable natural zones in Australia. The winds from the oceans bring rains to the western and eastern coast of Australia. So, the rainforests occupy the space between the Great Dividing Range and the eastern coast and also the northern coast. In the west they give place to beautiful grasslands with some trees called the savannas. Further west the trees disappear and the savannas are replaced by the bush lands. The real desert occupies the centre of the Western Plateau and in the very south- west there are thin forests of evergreen trees. Most of the Austrian trees are various kinds of eucalyptus and acacia. Some eucalyptuses are small bushes in the semi deserts, some are the main trees in the savannas, but the biggest eucalyptuses grow as tall as hundred metres. Eucalyptuses give the people timber and eucalyptus oil.

Recreational use of Pärnu river (essee)

They used to maintain the grassland through hay-making but now the endorsements are very low and owners don't take care of the land at the river bank. Some scientists think that letting the grasslands grow untouched is good for the biodiversity, but this is not the case here. For example eagles, which hunt on these grounds just abandon these areas and move on to nest somewhere else. Also the growth of the bigger trees is hindered by the underwood vegetation, which consist of willow, alder and aspen. Pärnu river affords many opportunities for tourism and recreational activity. As an example: 1) Fishing: There is a fish farm in Roosna-Alliku that breed rainbow trouts 2) Canoeing: There are several enterprises (e.g. Edela Loodusmatkad OÜ) which offer canoeing trip for a day or up to 3 days. Even our own school has 2 canoes.
