Through the Looking-Glass

by Lewis Carroll The BLACK kitten had once again made a mess in the living room with a ball of worsted you see it could have not been the white kitten, Snowbell, as she was having her face washed by Dina. Alice caught the black kitten and settled into an arm-chair to wind up the worsted again. Soon forgetting all about it she started wondering if Kitty could play chess. And thus her favourite game of "Let's pretend" started. Suddenly the Looking-Glass House caught Alice's attention. She had always been wondering about the Looking-Glass world. It was so tempting. Without even noticing she was on the mantelpiece and through the looking-glass. The room was quite uninteresting and untidy. But there were some interesting things the pictures on the wall were alive and so were the pawns on the chessboard and the words in the book were only to be read through the looking-glass.

Alice from Through the Looking-Glass

I'm Alice, seven years and six months old and very good at daydreaming. I think so because my favourite phrase, that I use very often, is ,, Let's pretend" whether it is about pretending that Kitty is a chess pawn or that I'm going through the looking-glass. I always take my best friends, Snowbell, Dina and Kitty, with me to my quests but they seem to appear as someone else so I usually recognise them only later. But it doesn't matter. They're my best friends in the real world and I talk to them all the time. I think my characteristics come out the best during my dreams. For example I am very curious and I never settle with what's right in front of me. I always want to see more and to do that you also have to be very determined and brave

Humpty Dumpty from Through the Looking-Glass

My name is Humpty Dumpty a perfect name for me as it means the good and handsome shape I am. I hate to be called and egg. I think it is very provoking. I look rather like any human being I have two eyes, a nose and a mouth. Maybe my head is a bit bigger than usual but it is very beautiful. Actually I am glad to be a bit different from humans as I don't really see the different in their faces. I mean they all look alike. It would be way easier if some had, let's say, both eyes on one side of their nose. I love my life. I sit here, with my legs crossed, on this high and narrow wall and I am not afraid to fall. Well and even if I did fall, which will never happen, then the king promised me to send all his horses and his men and put me in my place again. But there is no need for it since this wall is my home and I am very sure in my capability of staying here. My most valuable asset is my cravat. It sometimes upsets me when others can...

For in all the states of created beings, capable of laws, where there is no law there is no freedom. John Locke Although John Locke is not the progenitor of social contract theory and is not by any means the last philosopher to wrestle with this concept, his views on fiduciary power, majority consent and limited government have been instrumental in western political thought from the time of the publication of his Two treatises of government to the present day. Technology has dramatically changed leisure and hobbies

Technology has dramatically changed leisure and hobbies Family drives with a car, husband turns the car looking at the GPS directions to home. Wife shares pictures to Instagram with her iPhone and in the backseat girl is playing with her iPad and boy reads on his kindle. This is normal nowadays, because technolgy has been improved for example people can now communicate with each other much faster. It is great, although it can also harm people. Technology is serious responsibility- if people do not use an invention carefully, then it would end up the wrong way.

Crime

Latin crimen. Even in society there are always black sheep and these people are called 'criminals'. Estonia is a relatively safe country, although there are some situations, where people should be more careful crime has been increased lately. We could count different type of crimes, but most common are smuggling and robberies. Many people like something, what do not belong to them. On the one hand, news are talking about shoplifting, bank robbery and vandalism. When looking for the reasons why people commit crimes I can only say what I believe to be sure of, and it is that individuals go against laws because they choose so, as criminal behaviour is a matter of choice. People want to have somebody`s things for living better. If somebodys house is looking too good, there is nice-looking car next to house or there are not so many families living in the neighbourhood and burglar can

Should smart devices be banned in the classroom?

Should smart devices be banned in the classroom? Now days smart phones are inseparable part our lives, we can see them everywhere. Students have them all over the world. The disadvantages of banning smart devices are several. Cellphones can be very useful if used for the right purposes. When smart devices are banned then students can’t use their smart phones for looking up information, or knowing what homework is and can’t use them for dictionaries or calculators. The advantages of banning smart devices are more than advantages. When tabs, smart phones or computers are banned then also students could not cheat on a test by looking for information on the Internet and they could not get distracted on their devices by being socially active by texting on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or playing games.

Money Makes The World Go Round

Money Makes The World Go Round

Some people even kill to get more money or that the other man would not get that much. Why has money become so valuable? When I was a small boy, I thought of money as a piece of paper that my parents give away at the store. Growing up, I have realized the power of this paper. It can get you everything. And by everything I mean absolutely everything. It can get you food, a house, a car, a bike, sometimes even love. When you go outside, then you often see homeless persons looking for bottles. You also see very rich people who seem to have everything but yet they want more. They all ask themselves the same question - how to get more money? I think money has become so valuable because prospects are slowly running out and because of that gas value goes up, food value goes up and everything else too. So if you do not work hard you will end up looking for bottles too. To sum up, people have to work harder and be more enterprising to eat, live and have more fun

Disadvantages and advantages of using smart-phones in a lesson

Disadvantages and advantages of using smart-phones in a lesson Nowadays a lot of schools give a permission to use smart-phones in lessons for searching information, looking up new words or doing excercises. Therefore, it could raise many difficulties for students using smart-phones in a lesson. One of the advantages of using smart-phones in studies is that they are more effective. For instance, students do not have to waste time anymore for looking up new words from books like in the old times. Now, they can simply enter a word and get it, or when they have to read a excercise or a story, then they can access to it very fast. Also, nowadays society is accustomed to use smart-phones and it is easier to them remember new words or important information. Therefore, smart-phones have advantage to make one a better learner and do things faster. A big disadvantage of using smart-phones is that they can affect ones health and capability.

Crime in Estonia

Many people like something, what do not belong to them. On the one hand, news are talking about shoplifting, bank robbery and vandalism. The biggest robbery was some years ago, when Estonian criminals robbed jewelleries from all over Europa, worth 25 million euros. On the other hand there are crimes, which are not on the first page of newspaper, for example burglary. People want to have somebody`s things for living better. If somebodys house is looking too good, there is nice-looking car next to house or there are not so many families living in the neighbourhood and burglar can see that there is nobody in the house also, then burglar might notice, that there is a green light for him. People, who are not stealing, but still want to live a easy life with lot of money, are smuggling. They can buy cheap things and sell them with much more money as they could do that. Normally they are smuggling alcohol, drugs and other illegal or high-tax goods.

Surprise

I had just found it when I came to the kitchen. It was afternoon and I arrived from school. I hadn`t been expecting that kind of surprise at all. There was a name and an address on the other side, which I didn`t recognize. In addition, it seemed a bit weird that the envelope was on the floor, next to the table, but on second thought it could have been there by accident. So now I went upstairs, to my room and sat on the armchair. I sat there for a moment, holding the letter on my lap and looking out the window to let the curiousity grow. Than I prepared to tear it open, but some noise from downstairs interrupted me. I sat still and listened for a minute, it was quiet again. As I laid my eyes on the envelope again the same sound, only louder, interrupted me again. Now I stood up, placed the envelope on the armchair and went down the stairs to look for the source of the noise or something else to explain it. There was nothing wrong and it was perfectly silent

After many years, Basil had a chance to take a look of the picture he had painted of Dorian, and it was shockingly terrible what he saw in the picture an old man in his fourties, arms wounded by hypodermic syringes that were obviously some time ago filled with drugs, eyes looking evil and exhausted, lips transmogrified into a strange-looking smile. Basically, Dorian Gray looked like a regular drug-abuser, a drug-addict. Everything Dorian had gone through appeared in the picture, not in real life, because it was what he had wanted and prayed for after meeting lord Henry Wotton.
