Thoughts on Air Pollution Essay

Air pollution Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere. These dangerous substances can be either in the form of gases or particles. Air pollution can be found both outdoors and indoors. Pollutants can be trapped inside buildings, causing indoor pollution that lasts for a long time. The sources of air pollution are both natural and human-based. As one might expect, humans have been producing increasing amounts of pollution as time has progressed, and they now account for the majority of pollutants released into the air. Air pollution has been a problem throughout history. Even in Ancient Romepeople complained about smoke put into the atmosphere.

I have found the advertisement in the Internet and I am going to ask some questions. First of all I wonder if pets are allowed in the house of family booking? We have a dog and that would be really very difficult to leave him at home alone for two weeks. What about extra fee car parking? How much would it cost? Is there a fridge in the kitchen? I am also interested in price. All the rent costs 252 €? Including bed linen & towels? Or we have to take along our toiletries? And finally: What about internet access? Do you have it? Looking forward to your answer, ...

European yew - plant in Estonia

the berries without digesting the seed. This dangerous side of the yew has led some to call it the "tree of death,,. Symptoms include staggering gait, muscle tremors, collapse, difficulty breathing, coldness and eventually heart failure. However, death occurs so rapidly that many times the symptoms are missed. Fatal poisoning in humans is very rare, only occurring after eating a lot of yew foliage. Traditional uses In recent years it has been found that taxol, a chemical found in the bark of the yew, inhibits cell growth and cell division, and may have some promise in the fight against cancer. It was also one of the most important trees in the history of European warfare, as its wood was used exclusively for the making of the longbows, spears and dagger handles. In the past they were used as landmarks, because of their size and longevity, and their dark branches would make them stand out in the landscape.

Film review - Billy Elliot

Billy Elliot ,,Billy Elliot" is a movie directed by Stephen Daldry, which is amazingly touching and shouldn't be missed by anyone. When I first found out we were going to watch a film in our English class, at the beginning I was very sceptic, but after the first 15 minutes I already liked it. In fact, I ended up loving this film. This movie inspires lot's of young people to follow their dreams no matter how far they might have to reach and how difficult it might look in the beginning. The main character is this 11-year-old boy named Billy, played by Jamie Bell. His life is quite

Extended essay: To what extent does a plant-based diet lower the risk of coronary artery disease?

In this investigation I will study two similar prospective studies on plant based diets and cardiovascular diseases, mainly coronary artery disease, to find out if the outcomes of one have anything common with the other. I want to find out whether the outcomes of these studies are reasonable and have any evidence from other studies to support them. My sources include a wide variety of medical journals, studies and webpages. The Californian Seventh-day Adventists study found vegetarian men to have significantly lower risk of coronary artery disease compared to non-vegetarians whereas vegetarian women were at the highest risk. The Oxford vegetarian study, on the other hand, found all vegans and vegetarians to have lower mortality rates when it came to coronary artery disease. Vegans were found to have the lowest cholesterol levels, lowest saturated fat intake and highest dietary fiber intake which are all associated with lower risk of coronary artery disease

The investigation begins when two police inspectors Colin Lamb and Dick Hardcastle start to question people who lived nearby. Since the police dont get very far, Hercule Poirot is hired to solve the case. Particular intrest in this story will be on Josiah Bland and Valerie Bland,

Mangrove forest

MIS ON MANGROVE FOREST ÜLDSE? Mangrove swamps are found in tropical and subtropical tidal areas. Many mangrove forests can be recognized by their dense tangle of prop roots that make the trees appear to be standing on stilts above the water. This tangle of roots allows the trees to handle the daily rise and fall of tides, which means that most mangroves get flooded at least twice per day. The roots also slow the movement of tidal waters, causing sediments to settle out of the water and build up the muddy bottom. KAARDIGA SLAID

Losses of our life

Losses of our life Losing is an everyday phenomenon, whether you lose a sock, a pen or your keys, but aswell things, people tend to get lost too. Some are found and alive, but some are not, and it´s a tragedy. I can´t imagine losing a beloved one, it would be awful, but so many of us have to face this terrible situation, where you don´t know if the person is safe and alright. As always, there are situations where the person doesn´t want to be found, or where she/he disappears without a trace. The reasons of disappearing are very variable, from criminal cases, trafficking in human beings, getting recruited as prostitutes to very hidden and deeply personal matters. The average amout of missing people in Estonia is 199 persons per year, although 70% of the missing persons in 2001-2005 were found alive, luckily. In 2007, night before 24th of June, a 19 year old girl Maris Järve was lost in Pärnu, she was last seen at 2

What do scientists think about yetis?

scientist believe was the film of female yeti that was taken in California 30 years ago. Other evidences are reports of hikers seeing yeti in the mountains and also their footprints. The reason why report was so strongly supported and believable was because scientists noticed that no one would go up Himalayas and make a lie. One more report was sent from a team of hikers who climbed Mountain Everest. Most scientists believe the Yeti does not exist because there are no final results found yet to this answer. As to the evidence found by explorers that seems to support the existence of the yeti, none has yet help up to scientific investigation. Such as the footprints that were believed to be the ones of Yeti was left by bears. A skull was found but it was not the Yeti's but a goat. A fur that must have been the Yeti's skin was supposed to be a Blue bear's skin. Since these evidences are not as firm as always, it would be hard to tell the Yeti No

Temperate deciduous forests, woodlands and shrub

This is called photosynthesis. When the weather gets cold, broad leaves are not good for the plant, as they lose too much moisture and get damaged. So the trees cut off the water supply to the leaves and seal off the leaf stems where they join onto the tree trunks. The leaves are not able to produce the chlorophyll that makes them green. The leaves become yellow, red or gold before they dry up and fall off the trees. Animals: A wide variety of mammals, birds, insects, and reptiles can be found in the deciduous forest biome. Mammals that can be found include bears, raccoons, squirrels, skunks, wood mice, and deer. Animals like bobcats, elk, bison, mountain lions, timberwolves, and coyotes used to be found in the deciduous forests, but have been hunted down by humans and almost wiped out. Melting snow in spring and rain during summer provide water for streams and ponds. Many water birds, insects, and fishes are found in this biome, along with amphibians such as frogs

Surprise

Surprise I felt so excited when I looked at the envelope. Because it was adressed to me and I hadn`t got any letters for a long time. I had just found it when I came to the kitchen. It was afternoon and I arrived from school. I hadn`t been expecting that kind of surprise at all. There was a name and an address on the other side, which I didn`t recognize. In addition, it seemed a bit weird that the envelope was on the floor, next to the table, but on second thought it could have been there by accident. So now I went upstairs, to my room and sat on the armchair

The poor farmer's daugters

THE POOR FARMER'S DAUGHTERS Once upon a time there lived a poor farmer who only had seven children as his treasure. They were all girls, named after every famous queen the country had had. However, none of them was his child they were all orphans, found in the nearby forest many years ago, during the Great War. The eldest one was Margaret; she had long dark shiny hair and big blue eyes. She was a true beauty compared to the other maidens at the village. However, she had a bad side as well the only one she ever cared about was she herself. And when living at the county-side, being an egoist is not good. Lucia was the next. This year she would turn 16 if she hadn't played with a magical potion in the childhood

Christopher Columbus

During this time Columbus tried to interest the kings of France and England in his plans. They were not interested either. Then, in the summer of 1492, Queen Isabella suddenly agreed to finance the plan. If Columbus succeeded in reaching the East, he was to receive the Spanish noble title of don. He would also become admiral and ruler of all the lands discovered, and he would be entitled to one tenth of gold, silver, gems and spices found there. The tiny fleet consisted of three ships. Columbus himself commanded the flagship, the Santa Maria. She carried a crew of 40 men. The two other ships, the Niña and the Pinta, were smaller and together they had the crews of 50 men. Expect for four of the crewmen and Columbus himself all the men who made the voyage were Spaniards. Columbus' fleet set sail from Palos on August 3, 1492. On August 12 they reached the Canary Islands

Letter of complain (restaurant)

Dear Sir/Madam, I and my friend visited your restaurant yesterday to celebrate the beginning of our vacation. Unfortunately, the substandard food served in your restaurant really dampened our spirits. Firstly, I ordered salad, but it was not fresh. Furthermore, the vegetables had not been washed. I found pieces of dirt on the lettuce leaves. Then, I was served a really tasteless steak. It was tough and chewy. I called the waiter to bring me new steak. After waiting, the waiter finally came and gave me a new steak. To my astonishment, it was as bad as the first one. As if that was not bad enough, when I decided to eat my apple pie, I found out that it was stale and dry. Once again, I called waiter, but he claimed that it had been freshly made that morning.

Drug addiction is just a habit, like smoking or biting your nails.

everywere and almost from every person who do drugs. ARGUMENTS AGAINST Actually I do not think that doing drugs is just a habit like smoking or biting nails. It is addiction. When people are going to do drugs, then they may never come out of this trouble. They are just going to do it, and they can not stop it easily. It is not as simple as some people think, when you are addicted, then it is like smoking that is why you can not quit it so easily. CONCLUSION I did not found any arguments „for“. I only found arguments against. And I think that you can not quit something when you are addicted from something.

Dioxins and furans in the atmosphere

Põletamine töötlevas tööstuses 11 Maanteetransport 1 Teised liikuvad saasteallikad 0 Haiglajäätmete põlemine 0,5 Tööstusjäätmete põletamine 8 Why are dioxins a problem? Dioxins are widely encountered toxic substances. They are found in all environmental compartments, are persistent and, being fat soluble, they tend to accumulate in higher animals including humans. Their resistance to degradation and semivolatility means that they may be transported over long distances and give rise to transnational exchanges of pollutants. In addition, dioxins which were released into the environment many years ago are still contributing to current exposure. Even very small dioxin concentrations can cause negative effects on the

Austraalia

They get a great deal of rain. The hot, wet climate is one that white people cannot stand well. Much of the western coast is dry and barren. There is a great desert in Australia, and it comes down to the sea on the western and southern coasts. William Dampier was the first englishman to reach Australia. But captain James Cook's explorations on the southeast coast were more important. He was on his way from New Zealand and reached Australia from the southeast. The part of Australia he found was very much different from the country visited by the earlier explorers. He landed in a place of great beauty, rich in plants and flowers, which he named Botany Bay. From Botany Bay James Cook sailed along the east coast as far as the Cape York, where he put up the British flag. The eastern part of Australia became a British colony. The Colonization of Australia The British initially used it as a gigantic prison camp for convicts from Britain.
