TWILIGHT-CHAPTER ONE-FIRST SIGHT

Summary: We meet high school junior Isabella Swan, or Bella as she prefers to be called. She is a very pale skinned brunette with a quick mind and a sarcastic sense of humor. She is leaving her mother and stepfather's home in Phoenix, Arizona to live with her father in Forks, Washington. She feels she needs to give her mother, Renee, space to be with her new husband, Phil, who is a minor league baseball ballplayer. She's apprehensive about moving in with her dad, Charlie, who is the town's sheriff. Up until now, they have only ever spent parts of summers together. Bella hasn't been to Forks in three years. Forks couldn't be more different than sunny, metropolitan Phoenix if it tried. The weather is cool, overcast, and clammy most days. Forks High School, where Bella is to start school the following day only has 358 students including Bella. Charlie picks Bella up at the Port Angles airport. Bella finds conversing with Charlie stilted ...

Reliant on a talking computer for reading and a cane for navigating New York City, where she lives and works, Ms. Campbell, now 56, would have been thrilled to see something. Anything. Now, as part of a striking experiment, she can. So far, she can detect burners on her stove when making a grilled cheese, her mirror frame, and whether her computer monitor is on. She is beginning an intensive three-year research project involving electrodes surgically

Its largest town is kärdla. Hiiumaa arose from the water about 455 million years ago as a result of a meteorite impact. It is one of the oldest islands in the world. Around the island there are more than 200 islands and islets that have just risen from the water. Hiiumaa is a very beautiful place with kind and friendly people. Marriage is/is not an outdated institution

Marriage is/is not an outdated institution Dear audience, I am here to discuss about marriage. I would like you to ask yourself: ,,Is marriage an outdated institution?" I would say that it is, but I would prefer a word ,,special". Marriage is a rare sight, you don´t see the whole package every day: bachelor party, wedding ceremony, big fluffy white dress, bridesmaids, wedding march ,,Here comes the bride" and afterwards big celebration party. But why is marriage such a rare occasion? Firstly, women are more independant. It is not the time where women sit at home doing housework, cooking or taking care of the children anymore. Nowadays most of the women have gone out from home to build a career and discover the world. There are a lot of women

Total station problems

The tribrach is screwed down on the head of the tripod and the instrument is clamped to the tribrach with the tribrach screw. The optical plummet permits the surveyor to accurately center the instrument over a given point. It may be a part of the alidade, but most commonly it is still part of the tribrach – the positioning results are more accurate then. The optical plummet provides a line of sight parallel and in line with vertical axis of the total station. There are two graduated circles (horizontal and vertical) what are used for measuring angles in mutually perpendicular planes. If the instrument is levelled, then the horizontal circle is placed into a horizontal plane and the vertical circle is placed into a vertical plane (horizontal and vertical angles can be measured in their proper planes). Earlier total stations had bubble

Technological invention – a bless or a curse? (essay)

For instance, the mobile phone has made our time more flexible. Finally, communicational technology has made our life more interesting. We can now make friends with people all over the world through the Internet. However, for every plus there is a minus. The main disadvantage is that people are depending on technology too much. Most people are addicted to computer games or watching TV. Furthermore, technology has also increased various kinds of health problems. For instance it can ruin our sight or influence our psychological condition. In conclusion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I personally think that technology is more of a blessing than a curse, because it plays such a important role in our daily lives and nowadays we can't live without technological inventions.

The giant's causeway Northern Ireland is a beautiful. The most famous sight is the Giant' s causeway on the north coast. According to legend, the columns are old stepping stones, that giants used to cross the channel between ireland and Scotland. Although there are an abundance of tall tales, and myths describing colourful ways the Giant's Causeway came into being, the actual, natural history is a bit less exciting. The actual history is that the rock formations were created by a lava flow

The most unusual pets

Elephants usually have 26 theeth. An elephant’s skin is generally very tough. In walking, the legs act as pendulums, with the hips shoulders rising and falling while the foot is planted on the ground.Fast- moving elephants appear to ’run’ with their front legs, but ’walk’ with their hind legs and can reach a top speed of 18 km/h (11mph). Elephants eat massive amounts of food — in the case of the African elephant, as much as 660 pounds¹ in a single day. They communicate by touch, sight, and sound; elephants use infrasound, and seismic communication over long distances. I choosed that animal becose I love this animal and it's so big and strong. MORE INTERESTING ABOUT THIS ANIMAL : Because of their large size, elephants have a huge impact on their environments and are considered keystone species. Their habit of uprooting trees and undergrowth can transform savannah into grasslands; when they dig for water during drought, they create waterholes that can be used by other animals.

Kolm vaatlusväärsust inglismaal

No trip to London would be complete without a visit to the Tower of London. This famous historical site has been the living quarters of monarchs. It has been a site of imprisonment and execution of many traitors, clergymen, nobles and framed members of the royal court and was also an armory, treasury, zoo and mint. Today it houses the crown jewels and has a museum filled with armor, weapons and implements of torture. Another popular tourist sight is the London eye. Constructed by British Airways, it towers 135 meters above the banks of the Thames River. It is located near Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, on the opposite bank, adjacent to London's county hall. Views from the eye are spectacular and on a clear day most of London can be seen. If there's only one museum that can be seen, the British Museum is the one to visit. This museum has some of the largest collections on human culture and history

Funk

Funk on afroameerika tantsumuusika, milles on esiplaanil rütm. Harmoonia ja meloodia on vähem tähtsad. Rütm on punkteeritud, palju kasutatakse sünkoope. Tuntumad esitajad on Tower of Power, The Commodores, James Brown jt.

Schools should provide computers for students to use for...

subjets Nowadays we are making a step up into the era of IT. Everything is becoming computerized. Is there a way to not overuse technics? Now the question is: "Should schools provide computers for students to use for all their school subjects?" I strongly believe that schools should have modern computers but there is no need in using them for all the subjects. Firstly, sitting in front of a computer screen all day can be damaging for students' health, especially sight. As a result, children can feel more exhausted after school than they do now. It can also have a negative effect on students' moods. In addition, providing computers for students to use for all the subjects in Estonia is unreasonable. I am trying to say that many schools have more urgent problems than low level of computerizing. Only some prestigeous schools can afford themselves to have a PC for every student.

The Cullens continue to try to determine who would go into Bella's room and why they hadn't harmed Charlie and are unable to reach a solution. I don`t think they should wear school uniforms because it deprises kinds and teens of expressing themselves by what they wear. Kids should have the sight to wear what they want to. Everything would be dull and boring if everyone came to school looking the same. I and the other students in estonia think that parents shouldn`t have more say in school curricula. 39% British students believe that it is necessary. Parents can talk to their child at home about their difference of opinion. Parents shouldn`t be telling teachers what they should be teaching. In conclusion Estonian and British pupils have different aims of education. Standard of education

About Peter I House Museum

The building was restored at the order of Emperor Alexander I after he visited Tallinn in 1804. The wing, however, was not. The kitchen was reconstructed and a dining room was built above it on the first floor that had not existed before. Since then the building has been maintained all the time and today it is the only example of a 17th-century summer-cottage in Estonian architecture and a valuable relic. The building became a popular sight among the people of Tallinn in the last quarter of the 19th century when the watchman of the house used to entertain the visitors with "true-life stories". The Tallinn City Museum got the building in 1941. Peter I House was hardly changed until 2004 when it was thoroughly renovated. The museum with a renewed display is now open also in wintertime.

Describing People

scarf around her neck. Marin is cheerful and smiling almost all the year around. At least it seems like this to others, because she laughs a lot and is a very positive person. Marin likes to socialise and help others in every way that she can. She is very nice and neat and the most helpful person I know. But all the bright sides have always something negative. So do Marin. She really is a very attractive and friendly person, but when she gets angry, you should not be in her sight. She never hurts anyone physically, but her words can cause more damage than a thousand hits. She likes to take part in every action where possible so she has many hobbies. First of all, she is a very good tennisplayer. She also takes part in a dancing practise. Marin loves little kids and she likes to spend time with them in every free second she has. So she also acts in different camps as an educator. She is adorable!

Beryl Bainbridge – “Master Georgie”

Potter and Pompey Jones The main character of the book is of course George Hardy aka. Master Georgie. He is attractive, intelligent and bisexual. He is a surgeon, also, he is an amateur photographer. There are 3 other main characters: 1) Myrtle – the adopted sister, who Master Georgie absolutely adores, Myrtle is the only one in the book referring to George Hardy as Master Georgie, she constantly follows him around and never lets him out of her sight 2) Dr Potter - sententious geologist who eventually marries another of the Hardy children, he, like Hardy is also an intellectual 3) Pompey Jones – He is a street performer, and also he learns photography from Hardy, as a child he used to steal things from people and return them for a reward I find it strange, that the book is titled “Master Georgie” because the main character is mostly referred as “Hardy”, “George Hardy” or “Mr Hardy”. Myrtle is

English essay The Future of Education

an opposite effect, like the children will become addicted to the computers and such. That could be also fatal to the brain of the child. Then there is the good things for children who have problems with health. Like the development in the area of prosthetics. These new prosthetics are used to make education equal for all children. They have recently developed an implant for children with hearing disabilities. Microelectronic lenses are being designed for those with reading and sight problems, although there is a chance that it will have an opposite effect. No longer will a child be left behind because of his or her disability. All education for children with be as equal as possible. As you can see the future for the education world can be both good or bad in the future. There are many developments to make education more efficient, simpler, and equal for all from kindergarten to college, but that doesn't mean that the future is bright.

Tourists in Estonia

Tourists in Estonia Everyday a we can see a ship-load of Finland tourists. And they are here for only one thing. Finns are not anyone who would like to see Estonian sight-seeings or old-town, they are here for cheap alcohol. Regular Finn are an over-weight and very loud, usually because they are drunk. And our hotels are full of Finns. If you ever visit a passenger-port and see a person who have one or more luggage carriers full of export beer boxes then you have seen our north-neighbour. The Brits Usually here are only British bachelors who want to have a stag party in our pubs. These kind of Brits are very annoying. But here are also nice old Brits, much less than bachelors but still some. Older Brits usually are with cameras and visit all the sightseeing in Tallinn. They look very intelligent and for some reasons all Brits are very skinny. The Japanese Japan is really far from Estonia but...

Fame is a Fickle Food

She goes on to explain that after fame has faded, its not too pleasant insides become visible and even the crows inspect the leftovers, but decide to turn to the farmer's corn. The crows could also represent the many followers famous people get (fans etc), who turn away as soon as they see the fame becoming less bright. Dickinson ends the poem by saying that men, who eat the dish of fame, die. This means that they have spent their lives in search and pursuit of fame and have lost sight of everything important. Stylistically it is a very lovely poem. It flows nicely, although there is an abrupt change of pace in the last line, but that also carries a significance - to highlight the importance of the last sentence. She has also comprised the stanzas very logically the main idea carries over very well. Dickinson has not used too complex metaphors or stylistic devices, which sometimes make a poem harder to read.

Love- your worst enemy?

A family has to stick together and always be there for each other. It is not difficult to love somebody related to you. It is quite natural. You can feel the connection between that person and yourself. On the other hand, loving someone outside your family is something very different. It can be very painful and yet that pain may be the best thing that had ever happened to you. Most of us start out as just friends and love comes later. Others fall in love at first sight. It takes a lot of courage to become more than friends. What happens if this doesn't work out? It is not that easy to stay friends after a bad break-up. There is one thing you must not be afraid of and that is heartache. Especially young people who are inexperienced and easy to become attached. It is said that you should not fall in love and become too fond of someone when you are young. It think that is wrong. You can not force your feelings down and nobody is too young to

Time travel

Your Name Dear Diary, The most amazing thing just happened to me. The Time Machine which I never thought will work, just brought me back from my travel to 1975. I've always imagined what the 70's would have looked like and I've even dreamed of living in that time. And now I finally got to see and feel it. I wasn't quite sure where would The Machine bring me, but luckily it worked perfectly and brought me into the New York City. I think that it somehow works on the power of mind and it gets you exactly where and when you want to be. On the first sight it all looked wonderful, the grass was greener and the air was more easier to breathe of course I was evolved into the famous Central Park. I didn't know where to go or what to do, so I whistled, like they do in the movies, and took a cab. I asked the driver just to drive me around the city and show m...

Jane Eyre

decides to leave Thornfield for good. Many years later Jane returns to Thornfield before accepting a marriage proposal from someone else and moving away with them. She discovers that Mr.Rochesters wife has burnt down the house and committed suicide and he himself was left blind because of the fire. Jane pays him a visit and can't find it in her heart to leave Mr.Rochester to die alone. They live happily together, have children and in the end Mr.Rochester regains his sight. In my opinion the reason why Jane, and everyone else in the book, were so attracted to Mr.Rochester was because of his mysterious and deep appearance. Jane must have felt really special that she cought his eye out of all the women. That despite all the bitterness she was the only chosen one that could mend his broken heart and offer him happiness. She'd help him change his old ways and together they would live happy ever after. The same phenomenon often repeats

NORTHERN LIGHTS

over northern Canada, Alaska and along the northern coast of Siberia. How often can you see the Northern Lights? In Troms and Finnmark, we can see the Northern Lights every other clear night, if not even more frequently. From southern Norway, only a few times a month while in central Europe hardly more than a few times a year and they have even been seen from the Mediterranean but only a few times each century. To the north of the auroral zone, the Northern Lights are a common sight, although they don't appear as often as in northern Norway. What exactly are the Northern Lights? The Northern Lights occure when large numbers of electrically charged particles stream towards the Earth along its magnetic field and collide with the highest air particles. The air then lights up. The resulting colours reflect in gases we find up there, the most usual yellow-green colour is coming from oxygen. Red colouring is also due to oxygen with a contribution from nitrogen

In the end the kids get permission to stay with Miss Williams for the rest of the summer and they do't have to return to Mrs.McCafferty I think the book was too predictable and a little bit boring for me, but younger readers will certainly enjoy it. For a children's book, I think it's great. Some of the phrases and words I find interesting: Porch veranda Leave someone stranded - kedagi hätte/kitsikusse jätma Catch sight of something - midagi korraks nägema Take a fancy to somebody - kedagi eelistama, kellegile meeldima hakama Beat someone to the punch midagi tegema enne, kui keegi teine seda teeb Have one's heart set on something midagi väga lootma, ihkama, tahtma

Jazz referaat

Esimesteks jazz fusion'i plaatideks peetakse Gary Burtoni "The Time Machine'i" (1966) ja Larry Coryelli (The Free Spiritsi) "Out of Sight And Soundi" (1966). Samuti oli suur mõju jazz fusion arengule Miles Davise 1968. aasta plaat "Miles in the Sky", kus Davis kasutab esmakordselt elektrilisi instrumente. Samal ajal hakkasid erinevad rock-grupid näiteks Cream ja The Grateful Dead, samuti Blood, Sweat and Tears ja Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention kasutama oma muusikas džässielemente ja -harmooniaid ning katsetama vabaimprovisatsiooni. Tuntumaid 1970ndate jazz fusioni esindajaid on Weather Report, Mahavishnu
