VIDEO: Bhakti Shastri (003) - Sri Isopanisad Mantra 1
ISOPANISAD BRIEF  OVERVIEW
Invocation – mantra 3:   Live  in harmony  with Ishvara
Mantra 4.-8.
The Ishvara can be  understood by  spiritual   vision
Mantra 9.-11.
Right &  wrong  vidya ( knowledge ) - for understanding Ishvara
Mantra 12.-14.
Right & wrong upasana (disposition of the  heart ) – for worshiping Ishvara
Mantra 15.-18.
Prayers to Ishvara to  reveal   Himself
If I want to obey someone, I should know  this  person . We can know the Ishvara by the spiritual vision.
Developing  the spiritual vision has two parts:

cultivating the  proper knowledge & then

developing the right disposition of the heart
Yet to understand  the Supreme  Lord is not just an intellectual  exercise , we have to offer both  – the head
& the heart to the Lord.
This is  part  of our endeavor, but ultimately it is up to the Supreme Lord to reveal Himself. So we  pray
to Him to reveal Himself.

Upanishads are part of the Vedas.
4 Vedas: RgVeda, Yajurveda, Sāmaveda, Atharvaveda
1) samhitas – first  and primary  parts of each Veda
2) Brāhmanas -   different  from word “brahmin” which means on varna  or Brāhman – an aspect of
Absolute  Truth
3) aranyakas – that which is studied in the  forest
4) upanishads – word means “sit closely” - conversation btw gur & disciple, seer & seeker
Upanishads  come  from  higher reality but they are  received  and spoken by sages. They are
transcendental sounds and sages are just channels.
Iso Upanishad is part of Yajur Veda. Iso Upanishad - the  prayers offered by Manu to Yagija  avatar .
HOW THE LORD IS THE PROPRIETOR OF EVERYTHING (p 3-4)
We all want to be proprietors.
Aparā prak t
ṛ i – material energy, Lord's inferior energy (earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence,
ego)
Parā prakṛti – living being, God's  superior energy.
Speech of the person is th eenergy of that person. Energy belongs to the energetic. Everything in this
world is either matter or spirit  or combination of both – but both belong to the Supreme Lord.
BG: Everything belongs to the Supreme Lord.
Logically: I own the  land  – but for how  ling ? What happens after I pass   away ? Who actually is the
owner ?
Our ownership because it is transitory, is considered to be illusory, we have it only for short amount of
time and despite of our best  efforts it can be arbitrary taken away.  We are secondary owners. We are
tenants. Also in our body  – body can be take away at any moment. One may say, body  comes  from
nature, but where nature comes from? What is it's source?
Ultimately everything has to have source. Source is God.
Atheists say that everything comes by  chance . Things don't come by chance. This  idea  is  based  on
misuse of the word “chance”. Word “chance” is  applicable  when  there  is pattern of events  which are
likely and there is certain  probability  of each of them . When there is no pattern of possibilities given &
there is not probability of each of those possibilities occuring, then to say “chance” is just to  cover up
the ignorance. To use word “chance in causal-principal is misleading.
Fundamental question is: where things come?
Everything has to come from  something or everything has to come from  nothing ?
We have no experience  of everything  coming  from nothing. Logically everything comes from
something. Something from which everything comes, is that something or nothing? It has to come from
something. What that “something” is is  beyond  the  scope  of modern scientists to know. Scriptures  tell
us that this is GOD. That God is  Krishna .

Science  can't tell how & from where everything came about. They have unproven speculations.
Logically we are not  able  to prove that Krishna is God because logic has it's  limits . But logically we
can establish that everything has to come from something. And that something is  controlling everything
& owning everything.
ONE'S QUOTA IN NATURE (P 5)
Cow gives  milk  bu eats  grass  and straw. Lion will not eat grass, cow will not eat flesh. Within nature all
beings follow the pattern which are set by nature.
Cow is not a dead machine or petrol  tank. Cow is living, loving being and a person. When cow is loved
and cared – milk  increases . This is an arrangement of nature. When we keep cows in fearful, unhealthy
conditions, then they will not produce so much milk.
We should be satisfied with those things that are kindly set for us.
QUOTE IN HUMAN POSSESSION OF THE EARTH (p 6-8)
All materials for house come from nature – from Lord. Ie  carpenter makes  nice  furniture from the
material we provide. To whom  does this belong? If we don't acknowledge the  authority  of God, we are
encroaching God's property and therefore  we  shall  be  punished
If we say that everything belongs to God, how does this administer in society?
HOW BRAHMANAS AND KSHATRIYAS RULE?

shastra
Rest of humanity
Kshatriyas,  kings  are publicly & privately devoted to God. Ie  sweeping  the  road  in front of
Jagannatha's cart – is an act of demonstrating publicly being a servant of God.   King says: everything
belongs to God, I am only caretaker, servant. Everybody  else  follows his example.
When we say that everything belongs to God, it does not  mean that we have no responsibilities or that
we don't have property. Idea is that there has to be the  evolution  of consciousness by which people
don't come possessive or greedy for accumulating land but understanding  thing is the proper broader
picture .
In Vedic society Krishna's will was taught by brahmanas and implemented by kshatriyas. This way the
whole  society lived according to Isavasya principle.

The  basic  principle underlying Varnasrama: spiritually everyone is equal, materially everyone is
different.
We are all souls, children of God, we all have right to live. All of us can best contribute to
overall  system, that God has created, according to our respective talents.
The principle of Ishavasya is implemented through  the system of Varnasram.
QUOTA IN HUMAN DIET (p 9-10)
Principle of every sensible senisitive person should be – I shall  cause  as less pain as possible to others .
Vegetarian  diet helps the world.
DO PLANTS  FEEL  THE PAIN?
Scientific point of view:
trees  have less developed nervous system
Natural point of view:
crops perish if not cut, animals  are  killed long before  their normal death.
Intuitive point of view:
harvesting has festive atmosphere, slaughtering – horrific atmosphere.
Parents will happily take children to see harvesting, almost  never to see
slaughtering. Why?
That's why vegetarian food is much more preferrable.
Yet Srila Prabhupada's point is much deeper.
In Vedic culture those who were on lower level were  allowed to eat  meat , but under regulation – to take
only 1/6 and give rest to charity  and to take a wow that in this life I kill  in next life I shall be killed.
On higher levels meat  eating was discouraged and rejected.
Our qouta is to eat what nature and God has arranged for us through nature – we are prasadians.
Why to be a prasadian? The perfection of life is not just to avoid karmic entanglement -less or more, it
is to acknowledge & love the Lord
Eating meat = more karmic entanglement
Eating vegetarian food = less karmic entanglement, but  still  karmic entanglement will be there.
If we want to avoid karmic entanglement, which is the  ultimate   goal  of life, we have to acknowledge
the Lord.
What happens when we acknowledge the Lord? That time we are living in harmony with nature:”My
dear Lord, you have given this to me & I thank you for what you have given &  please  accept my
gratitude through the prayers that I am offering & please let me  serve  you with my life.”
The point of offering the food to the Lord is to understand that the Lord is actually the enjoyer.
Offering food is jagija. Krishna by His potency purifies the food from all karmic reactions & food
becomes spiritualisised not only karma free, it is bhakti-fed. It elevates us and enables us to develop
the love of God.
At one level our goal is to acknowledge the Lord, but beyond that we want to love the
Lord and for the sake of loving the God we want to purify us not only from karmic reactions but from
sinful desires that we have in our heart. Prasadam prayers are  profound prayers!

There is most mystical address of the Absolute Truth in Isopanishad. Style of Isopanishads isthat they are enigmatic, because it is meant for intellectuals and intellectuals don't like whne things are too simple, they like to speculate and stretch their minds. This is catering this need and at the same time leading them to Ultimate Truth. Concept of infinity if you take something out from infinity infinity still remains the same. Even if you take many infinities out of one infinity, still it remains the same. 1. What is the object of philosophical study? The object of philosophical study is being itself on an abstract level. Everything and nothing can be or exist. Things like colour, nature, material things like a table just are, but the meaning of being in be-ing in itself is unclear. Non Material things can also be or exist. If something is, then it is a being. But what exactly is this IS that we can see or on the opposite can not see? Therefore this is one of the fundamental questions of philosophy. 2. Can you reject solipsism? Solipsism (solus ipse) means nothing exists, therefore everything is an illusion outside of our own minds. I think that it is true that we know WE as in myself exists. But i can not for certain say that the person reading this exists although it might seems like it to me. I think that you really can’t reject solipsism on the whole because you do know that you exists, but can you for certain say that anybody else does? It may as well be just an

An analysis of the problem of Political Power - essee

An analysis of the problem of Political Power Written by: Katre Kikkas Introduction It is said that in the political philosophy there are only two questions: ,,Who can have what?" and ,,Who will decide over it?". It is not exactly like that but it is quite close to the trough, to begin with. The first question includes material amenity's, and dividing rights and liberties.(Wolff, 1996) What is power? It is ability to influence others to do something they otherwise would not. Also, others can be affected with threats and force. (Kilp, 2010) Political power includes also right to force the others and to punish them if they disobey. Who should have that kind of power? Actually the political power is quite mysterious by itself. If someone has legitimate political power over me then he or she has a right to force me to do things that they want.(Wolff, 1996) But how can other person have rights to tell me what I have to do? It feels insulti

Education

Education Education is so multifaceted that it is difficult for me to know where to begin discussing it, or how to prioritize the many factors. Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My view is not of an education specialist, but of one who loves sharing what I learn, and owes much to educators. Since I don't have an educational theory neatly worked-out, nor an outline of my perceptions, my intent is to address each educational ingredient that comes to my m
