The highest result of education is tolerance

The highest result of education is tolerance Ladies and gentleman! Today I will discuss a topic what is opened by a quote by beautiful Helen Keller: The highest result of education is tolerance. Today is the day you will understand that her quote is accurate. So I should probably start with a question. Why should we be tolerant to weird kids at school? Does anybody in this room know why?........Okay, let's just drop that question for now, we'll come back to it later. If I would ask you Where do we get our education from you all would probably say: From schools duuuh! But what is a school? Tallinn English College? Yeah, it is a school with all those fancy numbers with what you can become successful........but the greatest education

It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven

Lisett Oras 10a It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven People have different opinions about this quote. It makes them think and discuss about Hell and Heaven. I think that this quote means that it is much easier to be a ruler of a place that has no rules and bans. People are allowed to do anything they want, but they still have to somehow obey to the ruler of the Hell s. However in Heaven the ruler has been and will be God. There you must obey and honor the God anyway. If you have lived your life like God would have wanted you to live and you already are in heaven then it is better to serve in heaven. You have lived for God. You have sacrificed

“You can never go home again“ Lord of the flies

Kristel Sepp TIK IB 09.10.09 "You can never go home again" "Lord of the flies" The quote "You can never go home again" is related to "Lord of the flies" in both literal and metaphorical sense. Luckily most of the boys could go home in a literal sense but unfortunately some of them were dead by the time rescuers came to save them. When boys were left on the island alone the savages inside them started to appear and there were few quite good reasons for that. The experience on the island changed all of them and when they

Speech: Ideas are our greatest weapons

Speech: Ideas are our greatest weapons Hello class and classmates, I would like to open up my speech with a quote that I find really amazing: „The pen is mightier than the sword”. Sadly I don't know whose it is, but it means, that not every war has to be fought with swords and weapons, coming up with an idea about something that isn't violent might be a lot easier way to conquer in life. I think that all of you know that every tool, weapon, Everything that surrounds us, has started with an idea. That shouldn't be new for you. Some people might find it hard to believe, but even the most

BrLit Character Sketch

Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys Christophine was the servant of Annette and the nurse of her daughter Antoinette. She was a wedding present from Alexander Cosway, the first husband of Annette. She practices magic which is called obeah, and also has wide knowledge of the Caribbean black culture. She has had all her three children with different men, but has still remained single. She opened her reason why she didn’t want to get married in a quote: All woman, all colors, nothing but fools. Three children I have. One living in this world, each one a different father, but no husband, I thank my God. I keep my money. I don’t give it to no worthless man. I think it also gives out her idea of marriage. She thinks that woman who get married are fools because married people share their money and other possessions with husbands, who in her opinion aren’t worth it at all. Throughout this novel, Christophine appeared as a strong woman

his makeshift tools. Even though he had limited resources, Faria made matches, a lantern, a ladder, and a knife. Faria hid all these tools behind two separate rocks in his cell. All of these things show how smart Faria really was. Faria's intelligence is what helps Dantes make his transformation. "There is a maxim of jurisprudence which says, `If you wish to discover the guilty person, first find out to whom the crime might be useful.' To whom might your disappearance be useful?" This quote makes it apparent to Dantes that it wasn't just a big accident that he went to jail. When Dantes found this out, you could see an immediate change in his character. After Dantes gets the treasure that Faria gave him, he starts to put his plot for revenge into action. The first thing Dantes does after he gets the treasure is to change into the Count of Monte Cristo. Dantes seems to be smarter, wittier, and wiser as the Count of Monte Cristo. As the Count,

What Really Matters, Is Today, Not Tomorrow

Everybody should live one day at a time. When life gives us a chance to explore something new and exciting and meet interesting people, we should definitely use the oportunity. I think you have to be quite spontaneous to enjoy life. It is important to appreciate the people around us. You have to let them know how much you care about them and how much you need them in you life. And you have to do it today, because tomorrow we might not have the chance to do it. In conclusion, I want to quote an American essayist and philosopher Henry David Thoreau. He once said: ,,You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. There is no other life but this." Merit Vislapu 10R

The Zahir Paulo Coelho

Finally he meets his wife, but everything has changed. I really enjoyed reading this book, because it was really instructive. The story was full of lessons and ethical matters to use in life. I am completely in love with the author, because he doesn't just tell the story, but keeps you thinking about it, and speaks with the readers through the words. I usually enjoy more books with action, but this book is one of the best novels I've read. My favourite quote from the book: "All you have to do is to pay attention; lessons always arrive when you are ready, and if you can read the signs, you will learn everything you need to know in order to take the next step" If you like books that make you think about life in general, I truly recommend you to read the book The Zahir. You will find it hard to put the book down and you probably want to discuss and talk about the book to your friends.

Opinion essay

Opinion essay Television Promotes Violence Television has brought back murder into the home. There is no escape. -Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock (English film director and producer) I believe that in the previous quote Hitchcock expresses what he thinks about what the television is showing. In my opinion, he is saying that television is presenting a lot of violence and that people watching it are getting a bad influence. To begin with, I would have to agree with Hitchcock. Television really does promote violence, but there is still nothing being done. People, especially young children are still watching intense movies and cartoons. They are not understanding the reality that is before them. That is why I

American Literature Character Sketch-The Color Purple-Shug Avery

She later fell in love with a yough 19-year-old man. Her heart never fully belonged to one person, she couldn’t love and stay with only one single person. As Shug had many responsibilities, she tried to share her time between her loved ones and work etc. All in all, I consider her a strong woman who defied her low position in American culture. She Liisa-Maria Pihlak, 12B didn’t care much about what others thought about her or her preferences. There was a quote that got stuck in my head: Finally, Shug is the color purple personified. She is both red and blue simultaneously. Red represents jazz and life, and the blues’ origins are in misery and disappointment. Together, red and blue create purple. Liisa-Maria Pihlak, 12B

Should a mosque be built in Tallinn?

and have resulted in a rise of tribal mentality within many parts of western society. In these volatile times we should all come together. Instead of isolation, we need integration. Instead of building walls, we need to build bridges. It would be naïve to think that the building of a single mosque in our nation's capital would solve all our problems, but it would be a great start. I would like to end my speech with a quote by captain Jean-Luc Picard from the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation: "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied chains us all irrevocably. Those words were uttered as wisdom and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we are all damaged." Thank you all for listening.

What is needed for good society

Good society is not a paradise, but it is enough for us to get awesome life. And because of the fact that everybody have their own definition of good society, there cannot be single, universal standard- there are at least as many opinions as there are people (this means that there are no laws that make good society, only standards). Luckily most of the humans would agree that in good society there cannot be one leader. And to end this essay I will bring out my good friends Cicero's quote: “ The good of the people is the highest law.”

famous George Sand. Her first published novel, Rose et Blanche (1831), was written in collaboration with Jules Sandeau. Also she had written some rural novels from her childhood experiences of the countryside, some theatre pieces and autobiographical pieces. Sand often performed her theatrical works in her small private theatre at the Nohant estate. In addition, Sand authored literary criticism and political texts. Her most widely used quote is "There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved." A few excerpts demonstrate much of what was often said about George Sand: "She was a thinking bosom and one who overpowered her young lovers, all Sybil -- a Romantic." V.S. Pritchett (writer) "What a brave man she was, and what a good woman." Ivan Turgenev (novelist) "The most womanly woman." Alfred de Musset (poet)

Martin Luther King

So let’s turn to the his activist movement and orator career. First of all, all started from religion, King became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, when he was twenty-five years old, in 1954. His views was strongly based on Jesus Christ beliefs, so the main influence was Jesus Christ. Besides, he thought, that we should love our neighbor as yourself, and also love enemies, pray for them and bless them. He known almost all Bible, he would almost always quote Christian gospels in his religious meetings, speeches at church, and in public discourses. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat. The Montgomery Bus Boycott, urged and planned by Nixon and led by King, soon followed. The boycott lasted for 385 days, and the situation became so tense that King's house was bombed. King was arrested during this campaign, after this accident, King became a national figure and the best-known spokesman of the civil rights

Manners in Estonia

Table manners are relatively formal in Estonia. Remain standing until invited to sit down. Table manners are Continental, i.e. the fork is held in the left hand and the knife in the right while eating. Do not begin eating until the hostess starts or someone says "head isu" ("good appetite"). Avoid resting your elbows of the table. Compliment the hostess on the meal. Try to finish everything on your plate. Business Meeting & Greeting Estonians are quite formal and may not come across as quote cold or even friendly to people from more informal cultures. This should not be interpreted so. Once the relationship warms up the communication style becomes a lot less stiff. Shake hands with everyone at the meeting. Remember it is rude to greet someone while seated. Handshakes should be firm and confident. Maintain steady eye contact while shaking hands. Try and wait for a woman to extend her hand. Address businesspeople by their professional title and their surname.

How the right of privacy was viewed in the 1890s and 2010s.

Essay How the right of privacy was viewed in the 1890s and 2010s. Comparison between two articles by Warren & Brandeis and Julie Cohen The two articles have questioned - What is privacy ? The simplest answer would be that the privacy is a human right and like in the first article by Warren & Brandeis, they quote Judge Cooly who sayd that, the privacy is the right to be let alone. This means, that a person is free to go and do what ever the person wants, no one has a right to harm him/her physically or mentally and vice versa. What ever the person decides to do, nobody else has the right to know about it without persons premission. Julie Cohen starts her essay with a point that privacy has the image problem. against the ruling government and policy, as the `pretender' was no other than James Francis Edward Stuart, son of the deposed James II of England and claimant to the British throne. In order to solve several problems in a single stroke Swift suggests the inhuman way of reducing the future generation on the Irish Catholics and improving the economical condition of the poor. Ironically, but Jonathan Swift was a Protestant, in spite of being an Irishman by birth. To conclude, I would like to quote the following words: "As always, when he seems to tell one story, however simple, Swift is really narrating another" (Kiberd, 72). A Modest Proposal is a direct proof of the above-mentioned quotation. It is a very complex work, masterful and abstruse satire with its deep idea of common principle the people compose the wealth of the country. However, the mentioned principle is effective if only the population is provided with jobs for livelihood. By creating the

Discuss the representation of the generation of fathers in Turgenev’s novel “Fathers and Sons”

Nikolai is depicted as sentimental and dreamy as he awaits his son. He ponders long in his thoughts, and sighs overly emotionally "... ... ...", while also thinking of his long-lost wife. Throughout the novel he does not hesitate to kiss his son, initiate physical contact and openly express his fondness qualities which are not overly `manly' or adult, but rather emotional and child-like. In nature, he thinks " , !" .. ". Nikolais fondness of poetry is also deemed silly as he starts to quote verses by Pushkin in Chapter 2 " , -- , : , , , !" which is abruptly ended by Bazarovs request for matches. The aesthetic sense of the gentry is shown as Nikolai plays Schubert's "Erwartung" on his cello - albeit being not that skilful. As of Pavel he is beautifully appointed room is more likely a reflection of his social status and Anglomania than of any particular aesthetic sensibilities. Bazarov feels some kind of pity

Concessions- not a sign of weakness but a signal that you are looking hard for a compromise to suit both parties. The role of the minute-taker: they must be able to quote what has been discussed and agreed. The nearer the notes are to a verbatim minute, the more convincing the record of events. To practice: Ask people to repeat. Highlight agreements (+ who takes responsibility, deadline). Summarize at the end to get agreement. Managing the negotiation To give the N a positive start: Begin discussions with any issues agreed in the minutes of the previous meeting, or with those that you believe will be relatively easy to settle. Noted legislative achievements during this phase of the Civil Rights Movement were passage of Civil Rights Act of 1964 that banned discrimination based on "race, color, religion, or national origin" in employment practices and public accommodations and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, that restored and protected voting rights. 1.) Martin Luther King = (1929-1968) As a Christian minister, Martin Luther King's main influence was Jesus Christ and the Christian gospels, which he would almost always quote in his religious meetings and speeches at church; but also in public discourses. King's faith was strongly based in Jesus' commandment of loving your neighbor as yourself, loving God above all, and loving your enemies, praying for them and blessing them. His non-violent thought was also based in the injuction to turn the other cheek in the Sermon on the Mount, and Jesus' teaching of "putting your sword back into its place". In his Letter from

enemies in the upper classes, especially among the high nobility, who despised him as a social upstart. Disaster fell upon Portugal in the morning of 1 November 1755, when Lisbon was struck by a violent earthquake with an estimated Richter scale magnitude of 9. The city was razed to the ground by the earthquake and the subsequent tsunami and ensuing fires. Sebastião de Melo survived by a stroke of luck and then immediately embarked on rebuilding the city, with his famous quote: "What now? We bury the dead and take care of the living."Despite the calamity and huge death toll, Lisbon suffered no epidemics and within less than one year was already be ing rebuilt. The new downtown of Lisbon was designed to resist subsequent earthquakes. Architectural models were built for tests, and the effects of an earthquake were simulated by marching troops around the models. The buildings and big squares of the Pombaline Downtown still remain as one of Lisbon's tourist attractions

gives an estimation of the time that it will take to implement. Feedback is closely related to communication and simplicity. Flaws in the system are easily communicated by writing a unit test that proves a certain piece of code will break. The direct feedback from the system tells programmers to recode this part. A customer is able to test the system periodically according to the functional requirements (aka user stories). To quote Kent Beck, "Optimism is an occupational hazard of programming, feedback is the treatment. Several practices embody courage. One is the commandment to always design and code for today and not for tomorrow. This is an effort to avoid getting bogged down in design and requiring a lot of effort to implement anything else. Courage enables developers to feel comfortable with refactoring their code when necessary. This

The 4-Hour Body - An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman - Timothy Ferriss

How did he re ne his thinking to help build a $3 trillion business in Berkshire Hathaway? The answer is "mental models," or analytical rules-of-thumb4 pulled from disciplines outside of investing, ranging from physics to evolutionary biology. Eighty to 90 models have helped Charles Munger develop, in Warren Bu ett's words, "the best 30-second mind in the world. He goes from A to Z in one move. He sees the essence of everything before you even finish the sentence." Charles Munger likes to quote Charles Darwin: Even people who aren't geniuses can outthink the rest of mankind if they develop certain thinking habits. In the 4HB, the following mental models, pulled from a variety of disciplines, are what will separate your results from the rest of mankind. New Rules for Rapid Redesign NO EXERCISE BURNS MANY CALORIES. Did you eat half an Oreo cookie? No problem. If you're a 220-pound male, you just need to climb 27 flights of stairs to burn it off.

Kuidas muudab mudelprojekteerimine teraskonstruktsioonide valmistamist ja ehitamist

Early Steel Detailing is a process, where the development of structural steel shop drawings takes place concurrently with the development of the construction documents (Trammell, 2009). In such an approach the steel detailer works directly with the design team in an effort to produce the first sequence of shop drawings simultaneously with or immediately after production of contract documents for the project. These drawings can be used to obtain a more exact quote from a steel fabricator and then begin the process of fabricating steel for the job immediately without waiting for shop drawings to be developed by the fabricator or detailer (Farrow, 2007). By sharing the structural engineering model with the detailer, a lot of time and money can be saved by not having to recreate a detailing model from 2D drawings. 15 1.8. Shop Drawing Review

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

1 R. K. Postimees [Tartu] 1 Mar. 1944. 2 Õie Elango, Eesti kunstiintelligents pöördeaastail 1940-1941 (Estonian Art Intellectuals in the Pivotal years 1940-1941) (Tallinn: Eesti Raamat, 1979) 17. management, founding a philharmonic institution, etc remained unsolved. It is understandable that in 22 years it was not possible to solve the numerous problems because the material base was restricted due to economic and historical conditions. It is appropriate to quote a prominent contemporary composer: Several of our musicians, deeply interested in developing our musical life, expressed their thoughts in a pessimistic matter. It was even alleged that the musical activities in the past years had been ”leaden like the autumn sky with only an occasional ray of the Sun”. This was naturally an exaggeration. We must take into consideration that the composers were still young
