"truth" - 249 õppematerjali

truth - defining natural languages Oafish is explicitly truth-defined. Its sentences wear their truth conditions on their sleeves, in the sense that there is no disparity between a sentence’s surface grammatical form and what Russell called its logical form (chapter 2). And one can just look at an Oafish sentence and, truth definition in hand, work one’s way back through the sentence’s compositional structure and calculate the sentence’s truth condition.

Truth or Dare ?

Truth or Dare? is a party game requiring a minimum of two players. The game is very popular with adolescents, but is also played by some adults and seniors. Rules One player starts the game by asking another player, "Truth or dare?" If the queried player answers, "truth," then the questioning player asks a question, usually embarrassing, of the queried player. If the queried player answers, "dare," then the questioning player asks the queried to do something, also usually embarrassing. After answering the question or doing the dare, the queried player asks "truth or dare?" of another player and the game proceeds as before. The game may be expanded upon by adding additional options to choose from, such as making the dare apply to both the questioner and the queried, or incorporating Spin the Bottle to select the next person to be asked; this results in many different "variants" of the game, limited only by the players' creativity. The...

The truth pushes our world forward

The truth pushes our world forward 1. Truth has helped us to study and learn more about our world, not like religion and bible have done. Religion did not let science to evolve, but thanks to the sciences like Galileo Galilei science evolved because he was brave enough to say that earth is not the centre of the world. 2. Truth always comes out, Crusade wars began because of Turks conquered the holy lands and mistreated the Christians not because Christians wanted to increase their religion that happened later after the Crusade wars. 3. The Bible put humans to believe that we all are Childs of Adam and Eve but in fact humans evolved from apes and the truth helped the science to find the real origin of people. 4

Lying is a natural and inevitable part of any good relationship

Lying is a natural and inevitable part of any good relationship Most relationship experts note honesty as number one requirement to have a happy and successful relationship. Somehow many people seem to disagree. After all, if it was all that simple, why would anyone lie? Don't they want to be happy? Perhaps reality is not that straightforward. Sometimes telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is the worst thing to be done. From time to time truth can be hurtful. Noone wants to hear that they look exceptionally bad today, especially when they really do. A little fiction can save the day for everyone. Furthermore truth can be so complicated that noone really knows , what is real and what is not. Particularly when it concernes human emotions. There is no certainity, everything changes in time, and what is said genuinely today may become a lie tomorrow. People can be

Some theories of Literature

WHAT IS LITERATURE? Literature is a "performance in words". It has an element of entertaining display, we expect literature to be in some sense entertaining, or, to afford pleasure. WHAT IS IT THAT MAKES LITERATURE PLEASANT? A literary work seizes our interest and more or less at least for a moment makes the rest of the world fade and vanish. A work of art has this power to catch us up momentarily and to delight us. TRUTH IN LITERATURE Art offers truth as well as pleasure. What kind of truth? WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR (17751864) THERE IS A FLOWER I WISH TO WEAR, BUT NOT UNTIL FIRST WORN BY YOU HEART'S EASE OF ALL EARTH'S FLOWERS MOST RARE BRING IT, AND BRING ENOUGH FOR TWO. Is it true that the flower is the earth's rarest flower? If we want to know about flowers hadn't we better listen to botanists than poets? Isn't it apparent that whatever value Landor's poem has is not in its botany? THE NATURE OF LITERATURE:

Priorities of Estonian History

Early chronicles of Estonian history illustrate this diversity of perspective. Johann Renner, a Baltic German, held his own people in high esteem, deeming them the people of God. He implied this when he wrote that God would save His people from the hand of Gog. He seems to indicate that Gog was the Muscovite people. Perhaps the Muscovite people truly were vicious towards Baltic peoples, but perhaps not. Whatever the case, his biases colored his writing, likely distorting the truth as to how things actually were and how events actually happened.1 The same can be said of chronicles written by German B. Russow, who praised Swedish rule, and D. Fabricius, a Catholic Pole who favored Polish rule and rendered a Polish perspective of history. Russian history during the imperial period also shows such an ideological influence. Juri Fiodorovitsch Samanarin, for example, strove to explain to the Russians its mission and identity as the ruling people, not merely a minority,

Tough it is surrounded with a lot of critizism, it is a huge step to grew people's tolerance. My father once told me that earlobs can show people's tolerance. The longer the lobs, the more tolerant the person. It might be a fairytale or a grain of truth. If it is a fairytale, then he just wanted show-off his long earlobs. If it has some kind of truth inside of it, then we should start immidiately to sretch our earlobs with heavy earrings. I believe that neither of those statements is true. All Marketers are liars

In his book, All Marketers are Liars, Seth Godin contends that consumers prefer fantasy to the truth, and that consequently marketers should "live the lie, fully and completely." Stopping short of endorsing marketing methods which might kill people, Godin says that marketers should "give people what they want." The book is telling a story about why marketers must forsake any attempt to communicate nothing but the facts, and must focus on what people believe and then work to tell them stories that add their worldview. Also, he can bare his inner feelings to you, and will support you through thick and thin because a true friend always knows all about you and can give you some advices which could help you to solve certain problems. Finally, you can rely on a friend to tell you the truth, even if it's not always pleasant so there is no envy and hidden agendas between friends. Furthermore, a true friend never betrays you. I would like to conclude saying that true friends are hard to find, and are worth holding on to. They are really worth more than gold.

Honesty is always the best policy

Honesty is always the best policy Honesty is one of the first things that parents teach their children, and it is for a good reason. They say that honesty is the most valuable attribute in a person. But is it really the best policy? It isn´t always easy to remain totally honest in difficult situations. We have all lied to our close friends and parents, just for our own good. But the truth is that you always get caught with lying and it only makes things worse. Being dishonest may lead to serious consequenses amd you have to deal with them afterwards. Honesty isn´t only important in your personal life, but also in business. Being honest will help you get a good job and respect. Although there are ways to earn money dishonestly, it won´t give us a good social status. Best feeling in life is when you are respected, but if you are caught lying then

Anxiety is often overlooked by adults and does not seem as big of a problem as other mental issues like depression. The truth is, anxiety can affect teenagers lives just as much and should be dealt with immediately. I also have anxiety at times, but I have found many ways to help myself. The first thing to do when having anxiety is to make sure that our body is taken care of. Enough sleep can reduce anxiety and stress very effectively. It is also crucial to have a healthy diet and well-balanced meals. Caffeine and alcohol are most certainly not recommended, since they can trigger panic attacks and aggravate anxiety

Review: 8 Mile

alcoholic mom's (Kim Basinger) trailer; his job's a dead end, and he's just choked at the local head- to-head rap contest. Things improve when he meets Alex (Brittany Murphy) - an aspiring model headed for New York - and a fast-talking pal Wink (Eugene Byrd) promises to set up the demo. Then new setbacks: Alex isn't faithful, mom rejects him, rifts surface with his friends, and he's mugged by rivals. Everything hinges on the next rap showdown at the club. Can B-Rabbit pull truth out of his cap? I liked the film because it's action was like talking about me. I walk the same tracks what the main character did. Also, if I watch this film, then I look back to my life and look for the meaning of life. I liked the soundtrack too, because it includes some of my favourite songs like "Lose Yourself". This is a film that completely changed my view of the world. I would recommend this film to anybody, who is intrested in gangsta life.

The future seems dark. - 2012

The future seems dark. There have been plenty of ideas discussed about what will happen in 2012. But how do we know which to trust? There's very little legitimate scientific evidence out there to tell us unequivocally what the truth is, so what do we really know? The most important thing to remember when looking into all the theories going around is this: No one knows. Not the Mayan experts, not the conspiracy theorists, not the sceptics. Recently sceptics have used comments from modern day Mayans themselves that 2012 is a hoax, and that no Mayan calendar points to the end of the world on December 21, 2012. This is somewhat misleading. While Mayans do not believe the world will end on 2012, many do

Advertisements

Advertisements The mass media is flooded with advertisements of every kind. One only has to flip through the pages of magazines or newspapers or sit through a television program to see the wide coverage that advertisements receive in terms of space and time. Companies fork out large amounts of money just to advertise their products or services. What, the, are the benefits of advertisements ? Advertisements offer a wide variety of options to both potential buyers and sellers. Through advertisements, employers can recruit workers. People who wish to put up their properties for sale can find buyers or vice versa. Although there are grouses about advertisements, the numerous benefits of advertisements remain undisputed. Advertisements are the lifeblood of many television and radio stations. Many companies build a reputation for their products through advertisements. Sometimes companies sponsor major sportin...

It is said that advertising is legalized lying

people have advertised. The stars prmoting the product most of the time dont even use it. They are just hired to make people believe that the products promoted are the best on the market. Companies need ads to make their product stand out of the large competition in the market. But are they lying? I don't think so. There are exaggerations, over-statements, or misleading information which advertisers can get away with. The art of the sale is not in lying, but it is manipulating with the truth to make it sound like you actually need a product you don't. A lot of the statements that advertisers make are not literally true, but even not they are expecting that every person is believeing everything that is advertised. In the modern competitive market, there are so many products from so many companies which do not differ very much, therefore advertising companies have to be creative to present the advertised product in a good way.

Why are people ingnoring evironmental issues

If there is no immediate danger or a problem to be fixed, than people just do not consider it to be important. And people do have immediate problems to be fixed, because life is getting busier each day. People have already so much to worry about, they do not have the time to make „Earth saving plans“. The perfect reason, or rather an excuse is that ordinary people do not have time to care about environmental issues. Of course, if people would want to, they would make time to care, but the truth is that people are lazy and convenient. Taking some action to help solve the environmental issues, even if it is only a small thing, means change. People usually do not like change and stepping out of their comfort-zone, it might seem as too much trouble and work for them. In conclusion there are many reasons why it might seem that people do not care about environmental issues, but actually they are more like excuses. People have

The Life of Dante, the Inferno of Dante

While it is natural for man to think of Hell as a place, Pound understands it as a condition of man's mental state in life, continued after death. The tendency to see objects and qualities only in one dimension limiting and drawing the reader away from the true meaning of Dante's journey. Pound sees the Inferno as a satire on man's aimless turmoil and restlessness that continues to the root of Hell where it finds its end at the gate of Purgatory. Dante is represented as truth, intelligence, and love, and Pound generates a positive portrayal of Dante's work. Tate, Maritain, and Pound give insightful and pertinent observations of the Inferno, however, one major aspect, which was overlooked in their critiques, was the theological truths Dante uncovered on his imaginary journey through Hell. The reality of God, the Creator's love and man's choice is evidenced throughout the Inferno. On this spiritual pilgrimage, Dante has lost his way and tries to get back on the

My favorite book

life.I think that probably I like this book so much, because it is written of real persons life. The book began with birth of Alan and ended, when his family had to move. In the very beginnig of the book Alan gets paralysed and after that his muscles started to shrink and because of that his legs were crooked. Doctor`s only idea was that they should press Alan`s legs straight. It was hard work to his mother, because she had to do this and try to heal his son. It is very tragic, but it is the truth. In the middle of the book Alan has to go to the hospital, where he is surrounded by adult men. They admired Alan`s strength and courage to fight for his life. Alan always had the view that life does not suspend him nothing, even with his disease he can make his dreams come true. He also on the principle that men do not ever cry, because he love challenges and he wanted to cut trough these. Alan`s family was very supportive and they were always there for him

The role of the free press

Reading about the lifestyles of the rich and famous is amusing and can help people forget their own problems. However, journalists frequently intrude on the privacy of celebrities, following them and photographing them in their most intimate moments. This is surely an unacceptable interpretation of the word "free". As far as politics are concerned, the free press is important as it often reveals the truth behind all the speeches and accusations. Unfortunately, most newspapers tend to favour a particular political party, meaning that their articles are not objective. In addition, sometimes the information published may not necessarily be entirely true and thus cause damage to the politicians concerned. From an educational point of view, newspapers and magazines are an important source of
