A book worth reading

A book worth reading A year ago I managed to find time to read an extremely profound book entitled The Fault in Our Stars. This tragic, yet realistic drama was written by John Green, a famous author of young-adult fiction, and it provides a valuable insight into the life of children fighting with cancer. The Fault in Our Stars is about a teenage girl Hazel, who has stage 4 thyroid cancer. Hazel’s daily routine contains taking meds, reading books and taking part of the support group meetings for cancer- fighters. In the support group she meets an extraordinarily

picking up an instrument and learning to play.Anyone can do it if you have the patience an the willingness to learn. It's a good idea to try more than one type of instrument in order to know what you really prefer and what feels the most natural to you. It's best not to make up your decision on something like how cool a certain guitar looks on your favourite rock star.Everyone needs to develope their own musical styling with the instrument that is best for them. Writing music is one of the most profound ways to dig deep into yourself and see what you have to offer in a musically creative format.Don't expect the first thing you write to be an amazing piece of work.It takes time to build up to it.Don't feel as if what you write isn't worth sharing with other either. It's common to feel in secure when you develope your own original music but if your passion is in it, let it speak for itself. Gilead by Marilynne Robinson

Gilead Marilynne Robinson Setting: America, Iowa in 1956 and earlier Main character: John Ames The Plot: Gilead is a story about fathers and sons. The main character John Ames is a preacher in his mid seventies. His heart is failing him and he wants to guarantee that his son grows up well and gets his advice. He has always written down all his sermons and saved them in boxes. He is very keen on writing. John starts writing a letter to his six year-old son. A letter which his son would get to read as a grown-up. It is just like John would write down his biography. John puts down words of advice and wisdom for his son and tells him about the life of a minister and a preacher. John starts his letter with reminding the conversation he had had with his son the night before that he might be gone someday. He talks about death and how dying pe...

meals, sleep with a beautiful woman and, finally, commit suicide. Over the weekend, as they learn about life through their series of adventures, they start trusting eachother. Two absolute favourite scenes: The first is in the New York ballroom where the blind Lt. Colonel teaches a lady to dance the tango. It is so smooth and dramatic that even a couch potato is tempted to dance along. The second and most profound is the speech that Al Pacino makes in defense of Charlie at the prep school disciplinary hearing. It has to go down as one of the great orations of all times. I also love the ferrari scene, where Charlie allows the Colonel to drive. In my opinion the purpose of this film is to make people think more about others. It touched me, and even made me cry a bit. I really think it fulfilled it's purpose. The dialogue in Scent of a woman is so well-written, very quotable, the acting unbelievable.

entertaining films, fans of the book would have expected more and so would I. The book had a depth and a feeling, that was to me, lost in the movie. Page after page, I was riveted. His mis- adventures were more real, more painful, more lonely somehow - even though he was all of that in the movie too. His ambition was driven by more than love. And through all his life, his personality shone through. He was earnest, street-wise, innocent, likeable, and always, unassumingly profound. He learned from his experiences, but was prone to making the same mistakes. And I ended the book, feeling like I have lived a thousand lives. The movie just ended with a signature Bollywood song and dance. My take on this is obvious - if you've read the book and haven't seen the movie, expect it to be a completely different story. But if you've done it the other way around, read the book, forget about the movie, and you'll fall more in love with the main character

Tolerance and Diversity

Tolerance and Diversity Nowadays people are cautious and like to be independent to choose who they want to be acquainted with. The origin of a person is usually top priority. However, some people do not care where their friends are from and what the colour of their skin is. "Tolerance" is a noun with profound meaning. It has been built on an individual opinion, on the influence of friends and how the society affects people. Human nature is one-sided, because they believe in exact stereotypes of people and try to follow them. Many characteristics are also immediately being added to the person's characteristics according to its origin. It is better if you never evaluate anything by its appearance in order not to come to the wrong conclusion. People are very easily affected

Martin Luther King

First of all, I will gonna tell you about his biography, about his early years, private life, how he lived and what education he had. After I would like to tell about his role in the advancement of civil rights and generally his career as a activist and orator. Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. Martin, Jr., was a middle child. At the age of 13 King was skeptical of many of Christianity's claims. However, he later concluded that the Bible has "many profound truths which one cannot escape" and decided to enter the seminary. King was very precocious student, he skipped both the ninth and the twelfth grades and entered Morehouse College at age fifteen without formally graduating from high school. He had degree of sociology. King married Coretta Scott, on June 18, 1953, they became the parents of four children. During their marriage, King limited Coretta's role in the civil rights movement, and expected her to be a housewife.

. Regrettably, the first three compositions were destroyed during World War II. They are represented in the exhibition by full-scale, black-and-white photographic reproductions. One of the strengths of the exhibition is the assembly of preliminary studies for most of the works. These were done in oil, watercolor, ink and pencil. These help convey a sense of the three lost compositions, but cannot hope to replace the actual canvasses. The viewer is left with a profound feeling of loss for the destroyed works. Esimest põhisuunda nn. konstruktiivset e. geomeetrilist abstraktsionismi esindas KAZIMIR MALEVITS(1878-1935). -Malevits hakkas Moskvas esimesena maalidel üksnes ristkülikuid ja ruute kujutama -1915. valmis tal teos ,,Must ruut valgel pinnal" -"Valge ruut valgel pinnal" 1918. aastal maalis Kazimir Malevits valge ruudu valgele lõuendile, mis tema tõlgenduses tähendas ei miski ei miskis.

southern California. Cattle and horses thrived on these ranches and cattle hides became the defacto for a cash starved economy. The ranch owners and their families became the social aristocracy of the state. As time went on more and more resentment emerged between various social groups throughout New Spain including California. In the second half of the eighteenth century revolutions in the United States (1776), France (1789), and Haiti (1804), had a profound impact on political thought within all of Spain's American colonies. The criollos resented the political power of the peninsulares, but the power of the Catholic Church and their shared loyalty to the Spanish crown worked against revolution. In 1808, however, Napoleon Bonaparte put his brother Joseph on the throne in Madrid and thus called the legitimacy of the Spanish crown into serious question. Revolutionary thought throughout New Spain gained momentum as a result.

Tibet Tibet is a plateau region in Asia, north of the Himalayas, and the home to the indigenous Tibetan people and some other ethnic groups. With an average elevation of 4,900 metres, it is the highest region on Earth and has in recent decades increasingly been referred to as the "Roof of the World". In the history of Tibet, it has been an independent country, divided into different countries, and a part of China each for a certain amount of time. Tibet was first unified under King Songtsän Gampo in the seventh century. A government nominally headed by the Dalai Lamas, a line of spiritual leaders, ruled a large portion of the Tibetan region at various times from the 1640s until 1950s. During most of this period, the Tibetan administration was subordinate to the Chinese empire of the Qing Dynasty. The 13th Dalai Lama proclaimed Tibet independent in 1913, but this declaration was not accepted b...

behind. The few characters in the novel who actually support the effort--Ettore Moretti and Gino--come across as a dull braggart and a naïve youth, respectively. The majority of the characters remain ambivalent about the war, resentful of the terrible destruction it causes, doubtful of the glory it supposedly brings. The novel offers masterful descriptions of the conflict's senseless brutality and violent chaos: the scene of the Italian army's retreat remains one of the most profound evocations of war in American literature. As the neat columns of men begin to crumble, so too do the soldiers' nerves, minds, and capacity for rational thought and moral judgment. Henry's shooting of the engineer for refusing to help free the car from the mud shocks the reader for two reasons: first, the violent outburst seems at odds with Henry's coolly detached character; second, the incident occurs in a setting that robs it of its moral import

Reasons why human beings are unique

However, they cannot understand others' false beliefs. In a chimpanzee version of the Sally-Anne task, researchers found that they understand when a competitor is ignorant of the location of food, but not when they have been misinformed. Tomasello puts it like this: chimpanzees know what others know and what others can see, but not what others believe. We are unique in the level of abstractness with which we can reason about others' mental states This tells us something profound about ourselves. While we are not the only creatures who understand that others have intentions and goals, "we are certainly unique in the level of abstractness with which we can reason about others' mental states", says Katja Karg, also of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

Estonian composer, Maestro Heimar Ilves, noted that approximately 80 to 90% is hidden in the creative ideas within the thematic material. 1 The great, decisive role of thematics, core ideas, is emphasised by the outstanding symphonist Eduard Tubin and by Artur Kapp, both meritorious Estonian composers. When we want to consider a musical work seriously there must be a considerable core idea: vivid, momentous, profound and absorbing. It may be expressed through different means and not only through a completed conception. We can recognise this when it is evident that there is no equivalent possible in words. Music and speech are two different forms of language: often flowing in parallel, but never coinciding. Creation is simply unexplainable and those who are of the opinion that by analysing music its value can be analysed, have taken a wrong path. Value remains beyond analytical means.2

The Death of the Author

— We know that a text does not consist of a line of words, releasing a single “theologi- cal” meaning (the “message” of the Author-God), but is a space of many dimensions, in which are wedded and contested various kinds of writing, no one of which is ori- ginal: the text is a tissue of citations, resulting from the thousand sources of culture. Like Bouvard and Pecuchet, those eternal copyists, both sublime and comical and whose profound absurdity precisely designates the truth of writing, the writer can only imitate a gesture forever anterior, never original; his only power is to combine the different kinds of writing, to oppose some by others, so as never to sustain himself by just one of them; if he wants to express himself, at least he should know that the 4 The Death of the Author

Count Mippipopolous becomes infatuated with Brett, but, unlike most of Brett's lovers, he does not subject her to jealous, controlling behavior. Amid the careless, amoral pleasure-seeking crowd that constitutes Jake's social circle, the count stands out as a stable, sane person. Like Pedro Romero, he serves as a foil for Jake and his friends. Wilson-Harris - A British war veteran whom Jake and Bill befriend while fishing in Spain. refrain that repeated the word "nevermore," he found that it would be most effective if he used a non-reasoning creature to utter the word. It would make little sense to use a human, since the human could reason to answer the questions (Poe, 1850). In "The Raven" it is important that the answers to the questions are already known, to illustrate the self-torture to which the narrator exposes himself. This way of interpreting signs that do not bear a real meaning, is "one of the most profound impulses of human nature" (Quinn, 1998:441). Another obvious symbol is the bust of Pallas. Why did the raven decide to perch on the goddess of wisdom? One reason could be, because it would lead the narrator to believe that the raven spoke from wisdom, and was not just repeating its only "stock and store," and to signify the scholarship of the narrator. Another reason for using "Pallas" in the poem was, according to Poe himself, simply because of the "sonorousness of the word, Pallas, itself"

Looking at him now you wouldn't even guess that he's one of the most anarchistic rockstars of 1980s Estonia who has felt the lifestyle's rougher side- alcoholism that brought him close to death. In 2008 Mihkel published an autobiography about 1980s rock music and his journeys, which turned out to be successful here. without naming it mentally, it becomes a window for you into the formless. There is an inner opening, however slight, into the realm of spirit. This is why these three “en-lightened” life-forms have played such an important part in the evolution of human consciousness since ancient times; why, for example, the jewel in the lotus flower is a central symbol of Buddhism and a white bird, the dove, signifies the Holy Spirit in Christianity. They have been preparing the ground for a more profound shift in planetary consciousness that is destined to take place in the human species. This is the spiritual awakening that we are beginning to witness now. THE PURPOSE OF THIS BOOK Is humanity ready for a transformation of consciousness, an inner flowering so radical and profound that compared to it the flowering of plants, no matter how beautiful, is only a pale reflection? An article in Science entitled "A New Look at Maternal Guidance" (Pennisi, 1996) reveals that parents pass more than genes on to their offspring. The report acknowledges that the parent's provide non-genetic contributions that dramatically influence the development of the offspring and have profound ecological and evolutionary implications. Studies cited reveal that maternal contributions can enhance an offspring's chances for survival and even influence a species' ability to adapt to its environment. Recent evidence reveals that even though a child may be afflicted with specific genetic defects, the degree of the defect's "expression" may be highly variable. decline of the American natives. In the sixteenth century, Spaniards and other Europeans brought horses to the Americas. Some of these animals escaped and began to breed and increase their numbers in the wild. Ironically, the horse had originally evolved in the Americas, but the early American horse became game for the earliest humans and became extinct about 7,000 BC, just after the end of the last ice age. The re-introduction of the horse had a profound impact on Native American culture in the Great Plains of North America. As a new mode of travel the horse made it possible for some tribes to greatly expand their territories, exchange goods with neighboring tribes, and more easily capture game. In the nineteenth century, the incessant Westward expansion of the US forced large numbers of Native Americans to resettle further west. Under President Andrew Jackson, Congress passed the

Beginning in the 13th century, Sufism underwent a transformation, largely as a result of the efforts of alGhazzali to legitimize and reorganize the movement. He developed the model of the Sufi order--a community of spiritual teachers and students. Also of importance to Sufism was the creation of the Masnavi, a collection of mystical poetry by the 13th century Persian poet Rumi. The Masnavi had a profound influence on the development of Sufi religious thought; to many Sufis it is second in importance only to the Qur'an. The Enlightenment was important America because it provided the philosophical basis of the American Revolution. The Revolution was more than just a protest against English authority; as it turned out, the American Revolution provided a blueprint for the organization of a democratic society. And while imperfectly done, for it did not address the terrible problem of slavery, the American Revolution was an enlightened concept of government whose most profound documents may have been the American Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution. To feel the full impact of the Enlightenment on America one needs only to look at the first inaugural address of Thomas Jefferson, who, along with Benjamin Franklin, is considered to be the American most touched by the ideas of the Enlightenment. Attempts to reconcile science and religion resulted in a widespread rejection of prophecy, miracle and revealed religion in preference for Deism

Construction (LC) and Building Information Modelling (BIM), as well as an integration of these two. Given that the construction industry does not have a particularly good reputation among the public, the first part of this thesis focuses mainly on this problem and its sources. It is the reason why we need new and better business models, like LC and BIM, or even an integration of the two models. Both LC and BIM have been shown to have a profound impact on improving construction processes and therefore, project outcomes, as discussed in the third and the fourth chapters. Different studies and practical experience show that a combination of these originally independent approaches can ensure even better processes. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), which is discussed in the fifth chapter, is an example of this. In conclusion, a recommendation supported by research is made for improving the Estonian construction industrys performance.
