Akustiline kitarr asendati elektrilisega. Pärast mitut nädalat harjutamist suundus bänd aprillis stuudiosse. Stuudios lindistati 7 lugu, mida võib leida hilisemalt albumilt "Angels Fall First". Mais saadi plaadileping plaadifirma Spinefarmiga. Esialgu oli leping sõlmitud nii, et bänd saab välja anda kaks plaati. Augustis mindi uuesti lindistama ning seekord saadi valmis nelja looga. Enne plaadi "Angels Fall First" ilmumist, lasti välja esimene singel, mille nimeks oli "Carpenter". Antud singel jõudis Soome edetabelis 31. kohale. 31.detsembril andis bänd oma esimese kontserdi Kitee linnas. Pärast seda mängiti veel vaid 7 kontserti. Põhjuseks Emppu ja Jukka sõjaväes viibimine ning Tarja keskendumine oma õpingutele. Spinefarm pikendas lepingut kahe plaadi väljaandmiselt kolmele. 1998 Aprillis alustati esimese video filmimist singlile "Carpenter". Suvel ühines bändiga basskitarrist Sami.
