Short and long term effects of alcohol
Good morning. My name is NIMI. I’m going to talk about short and long term effects of alcohol consumption . Firstly I’ll tell you about short term effects and then move on to long term effects. My presentation will take about 5 minutes. If you have any questions , you are welcome to ask them afterwards.
Firstly I would focus on the short term effects of alcohol consumption. The amount and circumstances of alcohol consumption play a large part in determining the extent of intoxication; for instance , consuming alcohol after a heavy meal causes alcohol to absorb more slowly. Hydration also plays a role as for determining the extent of hangovers.
Initially, alcohol produces feelings of relaxation and cheerfulness, but as a result of further consumption blurred vision and coordination problems generally occure. As far as cell membranes are concerned they are highly permeable to alcohol, once alcohol is in the bloodstream it can diffuse into nearly every biological tissue of the body . Excessive drinking may lead to unconsciousness or alcohol poisoning. Death can also occur .
Different concentrations of alcohol in the human body have different effects on the subject .
Depending on the BAC ( blood alcohol concentration ) there are different states the consumer may end up: euphoria , lethargy , confusion, stupor, coma . Therefore it is important to have control over alcohol intake in order to avoid coma while the goal is euphoria.
Allthough when taking a next beer , following mornings hangover seems to be the main disadvantage, in addition there are also long term effects such as an increased risk of developing alcoholism , cardiovascular disease , liver disease, and cancer . Damage to the central and peripheral nervous system is a result of sustained alcohol consumption.
On the other hand research has found a correlation between light consumption – in other words - one or two alcoholic beverages per day- and reduced risk of heart disease as well as reduction in all- cause mortality.
However , some recent studies found that moderate consumption of alcohol did not decrease heart disease and that the positive effects may be due to methodological flaws in research studies. Despite the small number of benefits of alcohol they are still greatly overweighed by the large amount of negative effects on health. For example increased risk of liver diseases , cancer and pancreatitis. Nevertheless conversely moderate intake of alcohol may have some benefitial effects on gastritis. For instance chronic excess alcohol intake, can lead to a wide range of neuropsychiatric impairment , coronary heart disease and malignant neoplasms. Furthermore psychiatric disorders which are associated with alcoholism include major depression , schizophrenia, suicide .
Contrary to popular belief published studies have shown correlation between moderate alcohol use and health that may instead have been due to the beneficial effects of socialization that is often accompanied by alcohol consumption.
In conclusion despite of benefits, chronic alcohol misuse has serious effects on physical and mental health
Finally a thought -provoking fact : "Excessive alcohol consumption in Russia, particularly by men, has in recent years caused more than half of all the deaths at ages 15-54 years."

only the smokers but also people around them. Those people are called passive smokers. Children who live in a home where there's a smoker or come in contact with cigarette smoke very often are more likely than average to become smokers themselves when older. They are at increased risk of developing cancer as adults. And they also do worse at reading and reasoning skills compared with children in smoke-free homes, even at low levels of smoke exposure. Smoking also has short term consequences like your breath, clothes, hair, skin, and home smell of tobacco. You do not notice the smell if you smoke, but to non-smokers the smell is obvious and unpleasant. Your sense of taste and smell are dulled. Enjoyment of food may be reduced. Smoking is a serious problem, about 100,000 people in the UK die each year due to smoking. It is very hard to quit smoking but luckily there are things like nicotine patches and gums to help you during the process

Extended Essay Research Question: To What Extent Does a Plant Based Diet Lower the Risk of Coronary Artery Disease? Subject: Biology Word Count: 3482 Abstract: Because there has been much debate over whether plant based diets are beneficial or not, I’m willing to learn more about it and since there’s eligible data available on the effects of vegetarian/vegan diets on cardiovascular diseases, my research question is formed accordingly: To what extent does a plant based diet lower the risk of coronary artery disease? The importance of this study lies in my own curiosity and my desire to acquire further knowledge on the prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease. In this investigation I will study two similar prospective studies on plant based diets and

Drugs and how they affect your health.

You've probably heard that drugs are bad for you, but what does that mean and why are they bad? Medicines Are Legal Drugs If you've ever been sick and had to take medicine, you already know about one kind of drugs. Medicines are legal drugs, meaning doctors are allowed to prescribe them for patients, stores can sell them, and people are allowed to buy them. But it's not legal, or safe, for people to use these medicines any way they want. Cigarettes and Alcohol Cigarettes and alcohol are two other kinds of legal drugs. (In Estonia, adults 18 can buy cigarettes and alcohol.) But smoking and excessive drinking are not healthy for adults and off limits for kids. Nicotine is the drug in tobacco leaves. Whether someone smokes, chews, or sniffs tobacco, he or she is delivering nicotine to the brain. Each cigarette contains about 10 milligrams of nicotine. Nicotine is what keeps people smoking despite its harmful effects. Because the

It was founded in 1948 and has become an important part of British culture and everyday life. The NHS is controlled by the UK government. Some of their agencies have influence in other parts of the United Kingdom but the service is mainly known simply as NHS. The NHS has recently been the target of criticism over the years. Examples of such are: the length of waiting lists for consultations and surgical procedures; the lack of availability of various treatments either due to long waiting lists or lack of professionals willing to treat NHS patients and leading to people seeking private treatment in cheaper countries overseas. 4. Diseases In humans, disease is often used more broadly to refer to any condition thatcauses discomfort, dysfunction, distress or death to the person affected. In broader sense, it sometimes includes injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes and infections. Many different factors may cause disease
