Acid Rain

Acid rain can be absorbed by both plants (through soil and/or direct contact) and animals (from things they eat and/or direct contact). When humans eat these plants or animals, the toxins inside of the things they eat can affect them. It can cause brain damage, kidney problems and even Alzheimer's disease. The countries that are producing the majority of the pollutions that causes acid rain are not that badly affected (Germany, Britain, USA). Instead the wind direction means the acid rain falls in the other places (in Europe : Scandinavia, USA; Canada) Cultural effects Acid rain and the dry deposition of acidic particles contribute to the corrosion of metals (such as bronze) and the deterioration of paint and stone (such as marble and limestone). These effects significantly reduce the societal value of buildings, bridges, cultural objects (such as statues,...

Animals we miss today

Causes: *The main cause of animal extinction, without doubt,is human demand, either for animal resources directly, or for the natural resources of the animals' habitats. *In addition to that, there are other indirect causes caused by human activities. *Habitat loss: Is considered to be the main cause for animal extinction. Humans are clearing our forests for wood and timber. The foodchain is disturbed and animals will die. *Wildlife trade: Poaching and wildlife trade are another common threat to animals. International wildlife trade has also been linked to drugs trade. The most common anilmal trade is pet trade, such as orangutangs. Animals are also killed for fur(tigers, leopards, cheetahs)...

Majandussotsioloogia Tekstid 4-6 2020

Majandussotsioloogia Seminar 6 Tekstid 4 ja 5 Tekst 6: Brady, D. (2019) Theories of the Causes of Poverty. Annual Review of Sociology 45:155–75  Palun kirjelda kolme peamist teooriat vaesuse põhjuste uurimisel. Millele teooriad keskenduvad / mida väidavad? Kolm peamist vaesuse teooriad: käitumuslik, struktuurne ja poliitiline. Kõigi teooriate puhul on väljaspool vaadet põhilised ja põhimõttelised põhjused. Seega keskenduvad teooriad mõistlikult lähedastele teguritele. Käitumisteooria: Käitumine on peamine vaesust põhjustav mehhanism...

Spetsiifilised isiksushäired

04.2007). RHK-10 on rahvusvaheline haiguste ja nendega seotud terviseprobleemide statistiline klassifikatsioon (WHO Eesti 21.04.2007), mis sai heakskiidu 1990 aastal ning võeti Maailma Tervishoiuorganisatsiooni liikmesriikides kasutusel aastal 1994 (WHO 21.04.2007). Rahvusvaheline Statistline Instituut (International Statistical Institute) andis välja esimese väljaande, mida tunti nime all International List of Causes of Death. Maailma Tervishoiuorganisatsioon võttis Rahvusvahelise Haiguste Klassifikatsiooni (RHK) loomise vastutuse 1948 aastal, kui anti välja kuues redigeeritud väljaanne, mis esmakordselt sisaldas ka suremuse/haiguslikkuse põhjuseid. (WHO 21.04.2007). RHK on muutunud iseloomulikuks liigituseks kõigi üldepidemiloogiliste ja tervisehaldamise otstarbeks, mida on tähele pandud mitmetel eluliselt olulistel protokollidel nagu surmatõendid ja haigladokumentidel...

Eating Disorders

Often the desire becomes an obsession and young girls see "thinness" as being a needed characteristic. For many girls, the teenage years are spent trying to acquire this look. Eating disorders are a serious health problem. Three of the most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating or compulsive eating disorder. There are other possible causes to this widely known health problem. The media shows a great deal of beauty and thinness on television and magazines that are viewed by many people daily. Everyone has the desire to look like the actors and actresses do but, in reality, it just will not happen for most of us. An unfavorable relationship a person has with others is also a contributing factor to disordered eating habits. There really is no single reason that a person acquires an eating disorder. Causes like the ones...

Education

Those of us lucky enough to have a conscience, mature enough to see how things really are, must do what we can to help the less fortunate. Obligation to help. How can a rich person help a poor one? By giving some money? Well, can smart, or educated people give education to those needing it? Sometimes just taking the time to discuss things with troubled people is a great favor and aid. I don't have much surplus money to give to worthy causes , yet donate my time freely. I don't pretend to be able to educate in general -- but do know enough about plant life in Seattle to be valuable teaching that. I suppose I could share my plant knowledge with a single student, or several, and it wouldn't make much difference to me. The whole role of apprenticeship and master-apprentice needs to be expanded beyond its present confines of carpentry, masonry, electricity, and the like....

Health

A very widely spread present-day trouble is allergy. Allergy means that people are over-sensitive to certain things, such as some kind of food, medicines, dust etc. Many people suffer from heart diseases. It is not rare that a person has a heart attack or a stroke. These troubles and neuroses are often caused by stress and by the quick tempo of our life. Cancer is still a major problem, in many cases not curable. It is a disease that causes cells in the body to grow uncontrollably. There are about 100 different kinds of cancer. In winter we have coughs and colds. This is because of the low temperature, which makes our organisms weak and more vulnerable to diseases. Drugs help patients fight diseases or relieve pain, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. 5. First aid Most accidents happen at home. Many people die because their family doesn't know how to help them. So everyone should learn the basic things about first aid. Many...

Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (themes, motifs, symbols)

The Grim Reality of War - As the title of the novel makes clear, A Farewell to Arms concerns itself primarily with war, namely the process by which Frederic Henry removes himself from it and leaves it behind. The few characters in the novel who actually support the effort--Ettore Moretti and Gino--come across as a dull braggart and a naïve youth, respectively. The majority of the characters remain ambivalent about the war, resentful of the terrible destruction it causes , doubtful of the glory it supposedly brings. The novel offers masterful descriptions of the conflict's senseless brutality and violent chaos: the scene of the Italian army's retreat remains one of the most profound evocations of war in American literature. As the neat columns of men begin to crumble, so too do the soldiers' nerves, minds, and capacity for rational thought and moral judgment. Henry's shooting of the engineer for refusing to help...

Water pollution

Water pollution Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, and groundwater caused by human activities, which can be harmful to organisms and plants and for all of us. First, we have to talk about the causes of water pollution. Domestic households, industrial and agricultural practices produce wastewater that can cause pollution of many lakes and rivers. Industry is a huge source of water pollution, it produces pollutants that are extremely harmful to people and the environment. Dumping of litter in the sea can also cause huge problems. Different items take different lengths of time to degrade in water....

In the southern two thirds of the country the climate is temperate to cool. Winter temperatures can be lower but not freezing. There are four seasons. The seasons are opposite of our seasons. When we have summer in Australia there is winter. In Australia droughts and floods are very usual the draught is caused by El Nino, a weather pattern which happened when the southern Pacific ocean heats up this causes the wind direction to reverse. An El Nino occurs every four years, causing draught and bushfires. Drought are followed by floods. States and Territories The states are: 1) South Australia its capital city is Adelaide and most of it is dry desert land. Its huge industry is motor vehicle industry. The Greenhouse Effects

For example, it's possible that a winter day in Buffalo, New York, could be sunny and mild, but the average weather the climate tells us that Buffalo's winters will mainly be cold and include snow and rain. Climate change represents a change in these long-term weather patterns. They can become warmer or colder. Annual amounts of rainfall or snowfall can increase or decrease. Global Warming: Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities. The increasing infrastructure instability is an important issue in relation to the influences of global climate change in urban areas. A serious issue...

The UK

The weather changes so frequently that it is difficult to frecast. It is not unusual fo people to complain that the weathermen were wrong. Fortunately, as Britain does not experience extreme weather conditions, it is never very cold or very hot. The temperature rarely rises above 32°C in summer, or falls below -10°C in winter. Summers are generally cool, but due to global warming they are starting to get drier and hotter. Hot weather causes terrible congestion on the roads as Britons rush to the coastal resorts. Winters are generally mild, with the most frequent and prolonged snowfalls in the Scottish Highlands, where it is possible to go skiing. If it does snow heavily in other parts of Britain, the country often comes to a standstill. Trains, buses and planes are late. Contrary to popular opinion, it doesn't rain all the time. There is certainly steady rainfall...
