A NEW BEGINNING
It was a dark and a silent night , when two young riders dressed within black rushed across the Devil `s Field .
Suddenly one of them stopped and glanced at the moonless sky. His horse felt nervous, imitating the feelings of his rider . The other man seized his horse as well and looked at his companion in a curious way.
After a minute or two spent in abnormal silence the first rider cried out as loud as he could : “Run!”
The second man jumped off his horse and rushed to the forest that was waiting some meters ahead.
But then he remembered about the other rider, but when he turned the Devil`s Field was empty. His companion was gone – as well the horses .
The man was seriously scared now, but since he was one of the Royal Solders – fear was not allowed to be shown in public. So he drew his half -iron, half-silver sword and decided to go back to the field, but then he thought: “Alec told me to run...It means I mustn`t return to That place anymore...What should I do?”
Suddenly the cloudy autumn sky turned red and the rider heard some wild animal roaring. This was unacceptable to his brave lionheart and he ran off to the forest – not looking back even once .
He wandered pointlessly many hoursthinking of his friend whom was taken away by some mysterios beast .
“Maybe the Devil really exists?” he whispered anxiously to the trees , but they didn`t give him an answer , they only swayed in the chilly wind.
Finallythere was light ahead, so the rider thanked the Queen and hurried towards an unexpected destination.
He hoped it to be a village or even better – a small city. But all his dreams broke when he suddenly heard this loud wild noise again .
This time he didn`t run off, but still , he tried to stay in the bushes near the shadows of the trees.
Carefully, like a small child discovering the world he moved towards the light. And what he saw took his breath away: there was a village, but it was all burning and the people were sleeping an eternal sleep everywhere he looked. Some of them were seriosly injured, but alive . So he dared to sneek closer and take a better look .
One old man, who was still moving a bit, saw the soldier and waved sadly his hand . The youth climbed slowly over some dead bodies and sat near the injured person.
“What happened?” he asked “Who are these terrifiing creatures?”
The old man pointed one of his fingers to the north . The soldier took a look and saw an old wooden church that wasn`t swallowed by the river of fire yet.
“What`s in there?” he said, but no answer was given . The old man was dead.
The soldier prayed in the name of the Queen and stood up.
Whoever these creatures that destroyed this village were – they are gone now. No other creepy noise followed, so the man decided to pay a visit to the church that was soon covered within furious flames.
The door of the ancient building fell apart when the man came nearer to it.
Somewhat he felt uncomfortable while entering the sacred place.
Weird ,” he said quietly “I`ve been to many churches before , but this place...it doesn`t remind me of any stile we`ve studied in the Royal Palace... Very interesting indeed...At first the cursed Devil`s Field and now what? A sanctuary of the Demons?”
And the truth it was, because instead of the holy pictures, only war scenes were waiting for his eyesight.
Enchanted by the scenary, he totally forgot that the village was still burning and so was the old church. Suddenly, a baby`s dreadful cry awakened his mind and a woman `s quiet pray to the Satan echoed in the huge room .
Hello ? Is anyone in here ?” asked the soldier in a loud voice “It`s okay to come out now – the demons are all gone!”
“What?” a weak voice from the shadows asked “They are gone? But...oh!”
And a deep cry filled with hopeless despair filled the air.
The man remembered about the fire and said, “I could help you – I`m one of the Royal Soldiers!”
But the woman became even more sad and said, “I am a human myself , just like you, but when I was 7, evil monsters called the ishues came to our city – city La Air it was then as I remember ...”
Wait !” interrupted the man, “You mean these “ishues” or what-so-ever aren`t just normal humans ?!”
The woman burst out laughing and her baby cried even louder by now.
“Humans? NORMAL HUMANS?” she shouted nervously, “The ishues are pure demons! Even the prays can`t keep them away! We tried everything we could: starting with building more and more once holy and pure churches like this one was then and finishing with...”
But the woman couldn`t finish her story because one side of the roof had fallen on her. The man was covered in dust and so was the baby that the poor woman had desperately tried to save by throwing it to the man.
The soldier hugged the small child tighter and ran off the burning building.
He didn`t stop before he managed it to the other side of what was called a city once. There his road ended with a dead end – a hill surrounded by a deep valley.
“Well, little one!” he sadly whispered to the baby, “ At least I did everything there was to do...”
The child looked at him and all of sudden stopped its cry.
The soldier tried to smile a bit but it was impossible – too many abnormal events for one evening .
So he sat on the icy ground and looked ahead.
This picture was something that he would definetely remember for the last day of his life: a burning church backgrounded by the dark lonely forest accompanioned by the sunrise – the symbol of the beginning of new life.

The New Beginning II

The New Beginning II Morning came yet there was no happiness on the surface. The young man had no idea what to do next after all, he was one of the Royal Soldiers, not a babysitter. The child on his arms seemed so helpless...so innocent... And then he decided something that a few hours ago he`d never do: he will keep the child and raise it to be a worthy worrior who`d once destroy all of the ishues and free this country from the Demons. And so, the baby still asleep, he left the ruins of what was called a city once and moved towards east, where the Royal Palace was situated. By midday he finally reached the White Wall, where was a secret entrance to the Palace`s main hall. The gate keepers waved sleepily when he passed them. The young man decided not to disturb them so he went on in total silence. Soon he reached the main hall, but his leader, captain Jacques, wasn't there as he had expected. "Well, now that is quite problematic..."he claime

Heartless

Heartless It was one late evening when a little blond girl, aged between 7-8, ran quietly across the Ninth Avenue and entered one of the old houses that were lining the road. Inside she went smoothly though the corridors and soon reached a wooden door. After knocking twice a voice from inside called "Enter!" and the child went in. The room was filled with the smoke of numberless cigarettes. The girl, however, made no emotion and came closer to the old and ugly man sitting behind the table. "I wasn't lucky today, Grandpa," whispered the child and her light blue eyes filled with tears as she talked. The man smoked soundlessly, not even glancing at the girl. "But I'll go again, tomorrow, and bring you twice the money! I promise! So don't punish me, okay?" The man stood up and walked slowly towards the girl. "I promised your mother to take care of you, yet, if you are useless in even collecting money from the rich, I can't help you! This is the end, Hear

I didn't relate well to people my age. Maybe the truth was that I didn't relate well to people, period. Even my mother, who I was closer to than anyone else on the planet, was never in harmony with me, never on exactly the same page. Sometimes I wondered if I was seeing the same things through my eyes that the rest of the world was seeing through theirs. Maybe there was a glitch in my brain. But the cause didn't matter. All that mattered was the effect. And tomorrow would be just the beginning. I didn't sleep well that night, even after I was done crying. The constant whooshing of the rain and wind across the roof wouldn't fade into the background. I pulled the faded old quilt over my head, and later added the pillow, too. But I couldn't fall asleep until after midnight, when the rain finally settled into a quieter drizzle. Thick fog was all I could see out my window in the morning, and I could feel the claustrophobia creeping up on me

A lamb to the slaughter

He showed it to O'Malley who got up at once and hurried to the phone. Soon, other men began to come into the house. First a doctor, then two detectives, one of whom she know by name. Later, a police photographer arrived and took pictures, and a man who know about fingerprints. There was a great deal of whispering and muttering beside the corpse, and the detectives kept asking her a lot of questions. But they always treated her kindly. She told her story again, this time right from the beginning, when Patrick had come in, and she was sewing, and he was tired, so tired he hadn't wanted to go out for supper. She told how she'd put the meat in the oven - it's there now, cooking" - and how she'd slopped out to the grocer for vegetables, and come back to find him lying on the floor. "Which grocer?" one of the detectives asked. She told him, and he turned and whispered something to the other detective who immediately went outside into the street.

Oliver twist - kokkuvõte

Chapter1: An unknown woman was found lying in the street and brought into the workhouse. She delivered a sickly child who had trouble breathing. The woman, without a word of who she was, died and left her new born boy, Oliver, to the drunken nurse that stood by. Chapter2: The State gave Oliver to Mrs. Mann who housed a number of orphaned children. Mrs. Mann took a large portion of the money given to her by the authorities for each child's food so Oliver grew up small and malnourished. On his ninth birthday, the town beadle, Mr. Bumble, came to collect Oliver and take him to the board for an interview. They told him he was to live with other wards of the state to become educated and learn a trade. Oliver did not mind this, but soon after he arrived, the state decided to implement a plan that would save money by feeding the people very little. After a time on this diet, the boys at the table chose Oliver to go ask the head cook for more gruel. Oliver did this, and was taken away. A flye

The Life-Changing Competition

" Alice looked in the mirror and nearly fainted there stood a perfect grown-up woman before her, golden waist-length hair shining in the stage lights. "Are you ready?" asked Sheila and hugged her. Alice nodded and the same moment decided to win the competition, overcoming even her brothers. "Okay, everyone! The Princess is ready! Lets go and turn on the heat of the rhythms!" The women clapped and went towards the stage. Alice smiled and walked towards a new beginning it was the best day of her entire life, she thought. In the meanwhile the Ravens returned to the back stage, but Alice wasn't there. The battle began, and suddenly everyone heard a fast, yet light piano solo, that was never heard before. The notes were gentle, but grew stronger every second. Soon the judges stopped writing the report and just stared boldly at the Spice Dolls. They were marvelous. Especially good were two band members: the flashy vocalist and elegant

Kordamine inglise keele eksamiks A 1.1 Read the text and answer the questions below. Dear Mary-Alice, It's been ages since I last wrote to you, isn't it weird? Yes, so it is, but, I do have a certain reason. Do you remember Sir Thom of the Minquettes'? That fine young man with fascinating blue eyes... Oh, my sweet Mary, you will never guess what happened yesterday! It was about seven o'clock in the evening when Lillian called me out for a walk you know I can't say `no' to my little sis. Anyway we went to the forest near the Swan Lake and, believe it or not, got lost! Awful! I was so scared... We walked and walked, not even knowing the direction we were heading to, until we reached a huge mansion. And the garden around it was so extraordinary... That is something you just must see! But neither the trees nor flowers could be as wonderful as the owner himself! Sir Thom treated us tea and sandwiches, not forgetting to show us way back to the village. He was so kind, don't you think?
