Black Beauty

Chapters 1–5: Black Beauty spent his young life with his mother on Farmer Grey’s farm. Farmer Grey was a good, kind man and the horses had a good life. His mother told him that not all people were good and she gave him some advice: ‘Always be good so people will love you. Always work hard and do your best’. Black Beauty tried to follow this advice all his life. First, he went to live at Birtwick Park with Mr Gordon and his family, who treated their horses well. He became friends with two other horses, Merrylegs and Ginger. He was cared for by a groom called John Manly, who never used a whip. His wife gave him the name of Black Beauty. He learnt to carry a rider and pull a carriage. Chapters 6 – 8: The stable boy, James, got a better job with a nearby farmer so he was trained by the head groom. One day, when he drove the carriage led by Black Beauty, they nearly had an accident. Thanks to the clever horse,

Black Beauty

Anna Sewell (1820-1878) wrote only one novel during her lifetime, a book describing the life of a beautiful, black horse, Black Beauty. Sewell was very concerned about animals and used the book to write about the terrible treatment of horses in England at the time. The book is written from the point of view of the horse, which helps us to understand the influence that good and bad treatment had on the horses in the story. Black Beauty spent his early years in a picturesque, green field with his mother and some other young colts. When it was time for him to be trained to serve men, he was gently and patiently broken in by his master. He learned to wear a saddle and bridle, and carry a human quietly on his back. Black Beauty learnt about the way horses can suffer because of men very early in life. He witnessed a hunting expedition in which a horse was pushed too hard and fast by an inexperienced and

Minu suvi!

10. september 2009. a. My summer! I spend my whole summer in Varbla, where lives my older sister. Some days in July and August I also spend at home, because I had to take care after my dog and I wanted to buy some new clothes. Most of my time I hung around with my friends in Varbla. We rode a lot with horses and sometimes after workout we went swimming with them. Me and my friends took part in a movie which was made by Estonian and German people. It was filmed in beach Matsi and I really enjoyed that experience. In August me and my horse Estrella wanted to compete with other horses, but unfortunately I couldn't go to that race. A day before the race a horse hit me in the ribs and I wasn't able to move for a few days.

Valisin: Rising Tide Horses (London) tõus ja mõõn Thamesi jões. Rising Tide Horses on kujud, mis on mõõna ajal täiesti nähtavad ja tõusu ajal peaaegu täiesti nähtamatud vee tõttu. Hommikul on mõõn, päeva lõpus tõus (maksimumid). Kujud asetsevad Thamese rannikul Londoni keskel. Turistid peavad kujusid hommikul imetlema, sest muidu on mitteläbipaistev vesi hakanud peale hommikut neelama neid kujusid. Thamese jõgi on oma suuruse/laiuse tõttu suur loode erinevus.

John Constable

He later added nine lines from ,,The Seasons" by 18th Century poet James Thomson that reveal the painting's meaning: That the rainbow is a symbol of hope after a storm that follows on the death of the young Amelia in the arms of her lover Celadon. I like the name of the painting Sailsbury Cathedral from the Meadows, because there is everything very clearly depicted in the painting is the perception and the message. In front of the painting you can see chariots with horses and in the background can be seen church and rainbow. He has used oil colors and he used dark colors, but not all in sky he has used brighter color. In left of painting he used sooty, fawn colors and church is grizzly. The sky is light grizzly and sooty. In conclusion, it can be said that Kumu visit was very enlightening and diverse. We can also participate in raffle, which could lead to London art museum.

Humpty Dumpty from Through the Looking-Glass

Maybe my head is a bit bigger than usual but it is very beautiful. Actually I am glad to be a bit different from humans as I don't really see the different in their faces. I mean they all look alike. It would be way easier if some had, let's say, both eyes on one side of their nose. I love my life. I sit here, with my legs crossed, on this high and narrow wall and I am not afraid to fall. Well and even if I did fall, which will never happen, then the king promised me to send all his horses and his men and put me in my place again. But there is no need for it since this wall is my home and I am very sure in my capability of staying here. My most valuable asset is my cravat. It sometimes upsets me when others can't tell the difference between a cravat and a belt. It is just one of those things you know, that gets you all upset. But anyhow the cravat was an un-birthday present from the White King and Queen. I just love un-birthdays! Imagine that 364 presents a year

Leisure activities

Explain. It depends what kind of hobby you like to do. When you like for example folk dancing then it is not expensive, because dancers didn't have to buy those clothes. But when your hobby is dancing the ballroom dance, then it costs very much, the dresses what people wear when they are dancing pays very much, of course you can lend those dresses but it also pays much. The person who answered to me their hobbies didn't costs much, only their hobbies who loved to riding a horse. Horses costs so much and keeping them is cost the other same what the horse costs. What unusual hobbies have you heard of? Most popular unusual hobby what people have heard of is collecting cars or different bugs. Someone think that parachute jump is very unusual and dangerous. Have you heard of a hobby that led to some invention or discovery? People have heard about collecting very old cars and some parts of the old things what people have

Ingl.keele lugemine "The Black Beauty"

It is a story told by a horse, in his own words. It's about how he was treated and taught when he was a young and healthy horse and how he fell into illness and was treated badly. The Black Beauty didn't remember everything when he was small, but he remembered some very important advice from his mother. She told him that the better he behaved, the better was he treated and he always had to do best of him to his master. One day a man took him with him to the Birtwick Park. There lived other horses and the Beauty became friends with the others. The Black Beauty was a good horse and everyone loved him. One morning a master Gordon had to go to the city with Beauty. When they arrived to the hotel the master put the horse to the stable and went to bed. But suddenly the Black Beauty woke up and smelt smoke. The stable was on fire. Luckily everything went good and nobody got hurt. When they arrived to the Birtwick then everything went like always. The Black Beauty did work and got groomed.

The Houses of Parliament

Westminister Hall was used for many purposes, like for judical functions and for ceremonial functions. Nowadays Westminister Hall is use for sitting three times a week. The Palace has many rules and traditions over the centuries. For example smoking has not been allowed since 2005. Hats must not be worn and members are not allowed to have their hands in their pockets. No animals may enter the Palace of Westminster, only guide dogs for the blind people and horses from the Royal stables. Today, The Palace of Westminister is famous place, where you can see a lot of tourist. Parliament is open to the public variety of different programmes and events. Guided tours take visitors into both the Commons and Lords chambers and historic Westminster Hall. Visitors can also watch committee hearings. I think when someday I wisit London, then I go there first.

Ned Kelly - the bushranger

November 1850 he married Ellen, the eighteen-year-old daughter of James and Mary Quinn; they had five daughters and three sons. · · Ned attended school at Avenel until his father died on 27 December 1866. Left indigent, the widow and children moved to a hut at Eleven Mile Creek, about half-way between Greta and Glenrowan in northern Victoria, where Ned became the main breadwinner, taking jobs as a timber cutter and rural worker - ringbarking, breaking in horses, mustering cattle and fencing. · Kelly, 14, was arrested and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of a Chinese pig farmer. It was also alleged Kelly was an assistant to thief-turned- bushranger Harry Power, although police found no evidence to prove a connection to Power's crimes. · In April 1878 a police officer named Fitzpatrick accused Ned's mother of attacking him and that Ned had then shot him in the wrist. Mrs Kelly was sent to prison for

Pet therapy

In the eighteenth century an English doctor, William Tuke, filled the grounds of a hospital for mentally disturbed people with chickens, rabbits and goats. At a time when people were usually punished for strange behavior rather than helped, this was a radical new approach to treating the mentally disturbed. Tuke's idea was that patients could learn self-control by caring for creatures weaker than themselves.  This is an idea which has persisted. In New York, horses, cows, cats and dogs were recruited to heal soldiers who had been wounded during World War II. These animals comforted the traumatized and helped the battle-scarred to avoid becoming obsessed with their injuries.  During the 1970's, scientific interest was rekindled by a study that had originally set out to examine the connection between social conditions and heart disease. Quite by chance, researchers discovered that the survival rate of people who owned a pet was

The Crow Tribe

Women wore simple clothes - dresses made of deer and buffalo skins, decorated with elk teeth. Male clothing usually consisted of a shirt, trimmed leggings with a belt, a robe, and moccasins. Their hair was long, in some cases reaching or dragging the ground, and often part was styled into a pompadour. The Crows' main source of food was bison, but they also hunted mountain sheep, deer, and other game. The rump, tongue, liver, heart, and kidneys all were considered delicacies. The Crow had more horses than any other Plains tribe; in 1914 they numbered approximately thirty to forty thousand head. They also had many dogs; one source counted five to six hundred. Unlike some other tribes, they did not consume dog. The Crow were organized by matrilineal descent. After marriage, the couple was matrilocal (the husband moved to the wife's mother's house upon marriage). Women held a significant role within the tribe.

narrow streets of the French Quarter of New Orleans. More people joined and followed them until they caught the attention of the ladies of the town, who leaned over their balconies and threw chocolates and kisses to them. From that time on, masked walking parades became fashionable in New Orleans in the springtime. The festivals became more organized in 1857 when a group of people calling themselves "The Mystick Krewe of Comus" made their way through the streets on floats pulled by horses. One float was carrying the king of the Crewe on a throne and another carried a devil sitting among flames made from paper and representing hell. Later, a person of true royal blood found his way into the festival. Alexis Alexandrovich Romanov, the brother of the heir to the Russian throne, went to New Orleans, where the Mardi Gras was being planned. When the planners discovered that a royal person was attending the noisy festivities a float was added for a new king, "Rex."

society. Conversion was seldom an entirely voluntary process, and converts (neophytes) were not left to return to their old ways but were required to live in the walled mission enclosure or on rancherías, separate settlements sponsored by missions although located some distance from the mission proper. There they were taught Spanish as well as the tenets of their new religion and trained in skills that would fit them for their new lives: brickmaking and construction, raising cattle and horses, blacksmithing, weaving, tanning hides, etc. In theory, the neophytes were to live at the missions only until this process of education was complete. Then they would establish homes in the nearby pueblos. As the native people of one region were Christianized and educated, the missionaries were to move on, leaving the old missions behind to become parish churches as they built new missions in more distant locations peopled by non- converted tribes or "gentiles

Inglise keelne intervjuu

When a man and a woman decide on being partners in private life as well as at work, they are bound to run into problems or such often seems to be the public perception. If that is a rule, however, there certainly are exceptions. Marc (45) and Catherine (37) Brown have had to cope with that situation for many years now, with Marc being a cow farm manager and Catherine a milkmaid at the same institution. The exact name and location of the farm shall be left undisclosed, but it is certainly one of the most prestigious in England, meaning that stresses and strains are many meeting high expectations demands intense work. Marc and Catherine kindly ask me to join them in their cozy little house near the farm. We sit down by the fireplace and Catherine serves her special and at least locally very famous tea the exact recipe is a well-kept secret, of course. Was working in a farm something you planned already long ago? Marc: No, not reall...

Funk

Funk on afroameerika tantsumuusika, milles on esiplaanil rütm. Harmoonia ja meloodia on vähem tähtsad. Rütm on punkteeritud, palju kasutatakse sünkoope. Tuntumad esitajad on Tower of Power, The Commodores, James Brown jt.

topp, in Cornwall the scone should first be buttered so that the butter melts into it, then it is speard with strawberry jam and a spoonful of clotted cream is finally put on topp. Traditionally, the ideal time for a cream tea was at four. After working hard all day, the farmer would be very hungry and thirsty. His wife wouldn't have had any time to cook four full meals a day. Some scones and tea were more than enough for the hungry farmer who had been working in the field with his horses. 1) A cream tea is called Devonshire tea because the monks served a cream tea at Tavistok Abbey in Devon. 2) Clotted cream is like soft butter. 3) To make scones you need eggs, milk, butter and flour. 4) Scones are best when they are served warm from the oven and should be eaten of the same day they are made. 5) In Cornwall people put first butter the scone; then add strawberry jam and then put clotted cream on top. A New Beginning

His horse felt nervous, imitating the feelings of his rider. The other man seized his horse as well and looked at his companion in a curious way. After a minute or two spent in abnormal silence the first rider cried out as loud as he could: "Run!" The second man jumped off his horse and rushed to the forest that was waiting some meters ahead. But then he remembered about the other rider, but when he turned the Devil`s Field was empty. His companion was gone as well the horses. The man was seriously scared now, but since he was one of the Royal Solders fear was not allowed to be shown in public. So he drew his half-iron, half-silver sword and decided to go back to the field, but then he thought: "Alec told me to run...It means I mustn`t return to That place anymore...What should I do?" Suddenly the cloudy autumn sky turned red and the rider heard some wild animal roaring. This was unacceptable to his brave lionheart and he ran off to the forest not

exercised by Spanish born political, military, and religious personalities. As time went on the Criollo (American born Spaniards) grew more numerous. These Californios, as they were called, were the sons and daughters of retired Spanish soldiers who had received land grants from the government. These land grants (the successor institution to the encomiendia) were operated as large ranches throughout central and southern California. Cattle and horses thrived on these ranches and cattle hides became the defacto for a cash starved economy. The ranch owners and their families became the social aristocracy of the state. As time went on more and more resentment emerged between various social groups throughout New Spain including California. In the second half of the eighteenth century revolutions in the United States (1776), France (1789), and Haiti (1804), had a profound impact on political thought within all of Spain's American colonies

Australia Topic

AUSTRALIA Tallinn 2008 Only one country in the world fills a whole continent. That country is Australia. The continent it fills is Australia, too. Australia, then, is both a country and a continent. Australia is one only continent except Antartctica that is all south of the equator. Since it is south of the equator, its seasons are just the opposite of ours. It has summer while we have winter, and the other way round. Sometimes Australia is called the island continent. There is a good reason why. It is an island. It is 1800 miles from the mainland of Asia and almost half way round the world from Europe. More than 6000 miles of ocean separate it from the America. Australia is the world's smallest, flattest and driest continent. It is also the oldest some of the rocks are more than 3,000 million years old. It is the 6th largest country. Its territory is 7 700 000 km2. Australia is...

Giidindus- Toompea

TOOMPEA Toompea (from German Domberg – Cathedral Hill ) is a limestone hill with an area of about 7 hectares in the central part of Tallinn. It towers about 30-40 m above the surrounding areas. According to the legend it´s the tumulus mound over the grave of the national hero Kalev, erected stone by stone in his memory by his grieving wife Linda. It is the birthplace of Tallinn - a place where in 1229 the Knights of the Sword built a fortress instead of the wooden Estonian stronghold. Toompea Castle is also one of the most potent symbols of the reigning power. Today Toompea is the seat of the Government of Estonia as well as the Riigikogu, both of which are often simply colloquially referred to as Toompea. For centuries there was only one access to Toompea - Pikk Jalg - but there is also another way leading up to Toompea - Lühike Jalg, which was made in the 14th century. At present Pikk Jalg and Lühike Jalg are used only by pedestri...

Linguistics lexicon handout

LEL 2E Notes on Vocabulary One of the key facts about the lexicon of any language is that it reflects in various ways the physical and cultural environment in which the language is spoken. A people unfamiliar with, say, horses is unlikely to have a word for `horse'; similarly with ploughs, printing presses, and internet porn sites. For the most part this is trivial it's hard to imagine how it could be otherwise, given the general nature of human language. People tend to make a great deal of the alleged fact (see Pullum 1989) that "the Eskimos have lots of words for snow", but it doesn't take much thought to realise that any language spoken in a given physical and
