The Cataclysmic Death of Stars

song. For astronomers, there's usually no rush to study something before it vanishes. "The universe usually evolves as slowly as watching paint dry," says one. But these days, hundreds of astronomers keep cell phones and beepers close by so they can rush to work like doctors on call. They're waiting for word from a spacecraft called Swift. Swift, launched in 2004, scans the skies for gamma rays. When it detects a burst, it swivels its telescopes toward the source to get a good fix and detect the afterglow--the lingering point of light that marks the spot where a burst originated. It also sends an alert to earthbound astronomers, who can take a closer look with bigger telescopes. Early on February 18, 2006, Swift recorded an outpouring of gamma rays from somewhere toward the constellation Aries. Within three minutes, the satellite had determined the position of the burst and broadcast an alert

A Storm at Sea

Jason was standing on the deck of the boat when he saw black clouds gathering in the sky. He realized that the storm is not far from them. A minute later they found themselves in the middle of the storm. Huge waves were crashing and the boat was rocking from side to side as thunder rolled across the sky. They were extremely scared. They understanded that they were in huge danger, so Tony radioed for help. Just then a bolt of lightning struck the boat and the mast burst into flames. Tony said ,,We can't save the boat, but we can save our lives". They jumped into the water and swam to the life raft. As they climbed into the life raft they saw the boat sink slowly. When the men heard the sound of a boat, they were waving and hoping that the coast guards will see them. Paul, Tony and Jason were lucky to be alive. They felt relieved that it was all over. Who would have thought that their holiday would end this way.

Reklaamilehtedel pakutakse kõige sagedamini ülekande kiiruse indikaatorina just burst ülekande kiirust, kuna see on alati tunduvalt suurem, kui ülejäänud

The Inchcape Rock

"The boat is lower'd, the boatmen row, / And to the Inchcape Rock they go; / Sir Ralph bent over from the boat, / And he cut the Bell from the Inchcape float." This stanza is quite literal, it does not take a genius to understand what it is about - the sailors take the evil man to the buoy and he cuts the Bell free. In the tenth stanza, Sir Ralph the Rover lets the bell sink to the depths of the ocean- "Down sunk the Bell with a gurgling sound. / The bubbles rose and burst around;". He then enviously and with malice says that the next man who comes to the Rock, will not thank the Abbot (because his ship will crash the Rock and he will die in a very painful manner). In this stanza, Southey takes the gut-feeling of something bad happening to the next level, by describing the bubbles that appear after Ralph has thrown the bell into the water, such words as "gurgling" and "burst" also have a negative undertone and add to the feeling of the approaching danger.

Oscar Wilde “The Nightingale and the Rose”

It said that there is still a change to get one, but it didn't dare to talk that to Nightingale. But Nightingale wasn't afraid; she was ready to give everything for helping the Student. Rose-tree said that Nightingale must give her life-blood to the tree and sing for the whole night. Nightingale agreed. "Death is a great price to pay for a red rose" she said. And all night she sang and suffered the pain that a thorn made in her breast. When she gave the last burst of music, all the world heard that, it floated beyond the land. The reddest rose in the world was ready. When the Student saw that he was really happy and grabbed that and ran up to the Professor's house to see his love. But the girl instead of falling into Student's hands, frowned. She said that the Chamberlain's nephew had sent her some real jewels and everybody knew that they cost far more than flowers. Boy was disappointed and left. He was really disappointed in true love, he

Cheetah

The tail is also designed to help maintain balance at high speeds and during quick turns. Other features of the cheetah include its tan coat with many small, round black spots and black tear- shaped marks around the eyes. In fact, the name "cheetah" has its origins in the Hindu word "chita", meaning "the spotted one." The cheetah eats gazelles, young antelope, young calves, warthogs, hares, and game birds. They typically stalk their prey until they are only 30 to 90 feet away. They then burst into a chase that lasts about 20 seconds. The cheetah successfully catches its prey in about half of the chases. Cheetahs prefer grasslands where they have plenty of room to chase and capture their prey. They once roamed in most of the open area of Africa, in the grasslands of India, southern Russia, Iran, and Pakistan. Today, however, most cheetahs are found natively only in eastern and southern Africa. In fact, almost all are raised on commercial farms.

Courage in the Storm

I had to find out where my parents were. I taught my sister how to open and close the shelters' hatch and ordered her to stay there and wait for my return. Again, I swallowed the fear and run. I was headed back to the house, when I heard our dog Bingo howling in his kennel. Instantly I was on my way to save him. I took him into my arms and hurried back to the shelter. My sister was so happy to see me and Bingo, but her face changed. "You are going away again, aren't you?" she burst into tears. "I have to find them. Don't worry, I'll be back. Besides, now you have Bingo with you," I tried to comfort her. I winked at her while she was closing the hatch behind me. I made it back to the house and I screamed for my parents. I was panicking and losing hope when I suddenly heard a clattering noise from upstairs. I bounded up the stairs and searched for them. "We are here! Help us!" I heard them shouting in the attic.

Reliant on a talking computer for reading and a cane for navigating New York City, where she lives and works, Ms. Campbell, now 56, would have been thrilled to see something. Anything. Literary analyses of Beowulf

This is a natural place for a stop in a line of words and is called a caesura. For example "Many at morning, as men have told me" or "Death-sick his den in the dark moor sought" etc. Here one can also see that the initial sound of the third beat in each line echoes the initial sound of the first or second beats, or both of them. To add to the emotional colouring of the text, a lot of metaphors and epithets have been used. Some more outstanding epithets include "And baleful he burst in his blatant rage", "Hardy heroes", "Fiendish claw", "Hideous fiend", "Outlaw dire" One can find several kennings, typical Anglo-Saxon compound metaphors, such as "From captive of hell", "Shepherd-of-evils", "Hardy-in-fight", "The bone-frame", "Keen-souled" etc. In addition to kennings there are also many ordinary metaphors like "The accursed" and "The outlaw", these two referring to Grendel. For the sake of emphasis, parallelism has been brought to play. The repetition

The present continuous

Past continuous We use the past continuous: 1. to talk about an action which was going on at a particular time in the past. At three o'clock yesterday afternoon i was walking back home. 2. To 'set the scene' in a story. It was snowing and the wind was blowing as I walked down the long, dark road. 3. With the past simple to talk about an action which was going on whe another action interrupted it. I was riding my bike when the tyre burst. 4. to describe an action which continued for some time in the past. I was studying Art in Italy when I met Mike. Past perfect We use the past perfect to talk about an action that happened before another action in the past. When I woke up everyone had left. Past simple or past perfect? 1. We use the past simple to tell the reader about a 'chain' of events that took place in the past. ____ - __________ - ______________________ - ___ NOW

Foneetika ja fonoloogia

əᴜ - houm, load aᴜ - loud, grown, house Triphthongs are sounds consisting of 3 vowels. They form when adding schwa to the 5 closing diphthongs. A stop consonant aka a plosive is a consonant articulation which stops the airflow completely – air can’t escape through the mouth. When the blockage is released a burst of air is released with a sound (plosion). Plosives divide into:  Bilabial – the stop is made by two contracting lips  Alveolar- the stop is made by the tongue touching the alveolar ridge  Velar – the stop is made with the velum aka soft palate  Fortis – aspirated consonants  Lenis – not aspirated Plosives of English: Bilabial Alveolar Velar

A New Beginning

But...oh!" And a deep cry filled with hopeless despair filled the air. The man remembered about the fire and said, "I could help you I`m one of the Royal Soldiers!" But the woman became even more sad and said, "I am a human myself, just like you, but when I was 7, evil monsters called the ishues came to our city city La Air it was then as I remember..." "Wait!" interrupted the man, "You mean these "ishues" or what-so-ever aren`t just normal humans?!" The woman burst out laughing and her baby cried even louder by now. "Humans? NORMAL HUMANS?" she shouted nervously, "The ishues are pure demons! Even the prays can`t keep them away! We tried everything we could: starting with building more and more once holy and pure churches like this one was then and finishing with..." But the woman couldn`t finish her story because one side of the roof had fallen on her. The man was covered in dust and so was the baby that the poor woman had

still winter. The giant said, "Now I know why the spring didn´t want to come here. I will knock down the wall and it will be the children´s playground for ever." 6 D But when the children was him they were so frightened that they all ran away and the garden became winter again. Only one little boy didn´t see the giant coming because his eyes were full of tears. The Giant took him genelty in his hands and pout him up into the tree. The tree burst into blossom and the birds came and sang on it. The little boy put his arms round the Giant´s neck and kissed him. When the other children saw that the Giant was not angry any longer, they came running back, and with them came the spring. "It is your garden now," said the Giant. He took a great axe and knocked down the wall.

Mid-term 1 in English Phonetics and Phonology

two-syllable words (seed, speedy) a vowel is shortest in a syllable closed with an unvoiced consonant and in words with more than two syllables (seat; speedily). Stop Consonants (Plosives). A stop (or plosive) - is a consonant articulation which stops the airflow in the vocal tract completely, the air cannot escape through the mouth. When the articulators come apart, the airstream will be released in a small burst of sound. Aspiration a period of voicelessness after the release of an articulation, e.g. pie [paý] NB! K, p, t are unvoiced/aspirated consonants and g, b, d are unaspirated/voiced consonants. These unvoiced stops are completely unaspirated (spy, sty, sky), because stop is immediately following word-initial s. Fricatives, Affricates, Nasals. Fricatives - narrowing the distance between two articulators so that the airstream is partially obstructed and a turbulent airflow is produced (i.e

Sandrigham house

On 19 January 1915 Zeppelin L45 crossed the North Sea on the first raid of the war, and several bombs landed on and around the Royal estate. One of the craters filled with water; King George VI later had it enlarged and turned into a duck pond. Like many villages, towns and communities across Britain, the community of the estate suffered its own wartime tragedy. The Sandringham Company was wiped out in the Battle of Gallipoli in August 1915. Trapped in a field which suddenly burst into flames, possibly due to a stray shell, the entire company was killed. In 1920 King George V, Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary unveiled a cross and tablet on the greensward outside Sandringham Church, bearing the names of the fallen. King George V's reign also saw the birth of a new Christmas tradition at Sandringham. The first Christmas broadcast to the Empire was made live on Christmas Day, 1932, from Sandringham's 'business-room'. History was made again in 1957

Väline kõvaketas

===Väline kõvaketas===

Väline kõvaketas (inglise ,,external hard drive") on arvutiväline andmesäilitusseade.

---- __TOC__ ---- ===Välise kõvaketta ajalugu===

Esimesed välised kõvakettad tegid debüüdi hilistes 1950ndates. Neil oli 5MB vaba mälu ning nad käisid kaasas esimeste kommertslike IBMi süsteemi...

Roots kompressor
