This paper is divided into three chapters: the first describes different sexual orientations, their presumable causes and the development of related terms, the second chapter gives an overview of sexual minorities in modern society and the third presents an analysis of a study conducted by the author. The main goal of the research was to study the attitudes towards sexual minorities among grade 9- 12 students in Kuressaare Gymnasium. This was done in the form of an inquiry among 99 students. When analyzing the results of the inquiry, the following was found out: · many students do not have clearly formed opinions and views on the subject, which may be caused by them being poorly informed; · generally female students are more tolerant on this subject than male students; · attitudes towards gay men are typically more negative than attitudes towards lesbians; · 12th grade students are the most tolerant.
