Register/ vocabulary /grammar
Language appropriate for the task , no contracted words , no slang , a wide range of vocabulary and grammatical structures, spelling and punctuation (a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, a full stop to finish sentences, avoid exclamation marks ), use of linking devices (but not the ones you would definitely use in an essay )

Paragraphs 2 and 3
  • Describe the complaint in more detail. Give support ! Include dates and times , people involved, the inconvenience you’ve been caused, etc.
  • Do not copy the prompt, paraphrase instead. Use all the prompts, dividing them logically between paragraphs.
  • Link ideas with appropriate linking words and phrases .
  • NB! Try to be clear and factual rather than emotional.
Final paragraph
  • Use the final paragraph to say what action you want to be taken.
I must insist that you refund the cost of the bill .

Style
Formal language: no slang, foul language, informal words, contractions. This is a piece of academic writing. Clear paragraphs (indented lines OR block style)
Transactional letters/letter of inquiry
  • Transactional letters require a reply which may be based on advertisements, other writing input, letters, etc.
  • For example, a letter which is asking for further information about summer camp based on an advertisement.
  • Use an appropriate style.
  • Include all the factual information provided , using your own words. Write in more detail about at least half of them and mention everything.
