Do you often read books voluntarily? What books do you usually read? Discuss it with your neighbor.
Ask your neighbor:
Who is Harry Potter ?
What’s so magical about him?
Part I
Reading: Read through the text, look up unknown words
by J. K. Rowling
In 1990, a British woman in her mid-twenties called Joanne Rowling was on a train in England when she suddenly had an idea for a story she could write. She had enjoyed writing ever since she was a young girl, but there was something about the main character in this story that seemed especially exciting. He was a thin , black -haired boy who wore glasses . He was also a wizard, but didn’t yet know about his magical powers. His name was Harry Potter.
Harry has since made Rowling ( whose pen name is J.K. Rowling) the richest author in the world. Her six books about his adventures have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide and exist in more than 50 different languages . Most of the readers are children or young teenagers , but the books are unusual in the way that they also appeal to adults.
Each of the six books covers about a year in Harry’s life as he grows from a boy into a teenager. At the start of the first book we learn that he is an orphan who lives with his horrible aunt and uncle , the Dursleys. On his eleventh birthday he discovers he is a wizard, and soon afterwards goes off to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which is where most of the action in the six books takes place .
Hogwarts is part of a magical world that is invisible to people without magical powers, who are known as ‘Muggles’. Harry is the hero of all the stories , though there are many other likeable characters such as his friends Ron and Hermione , and the powerful wizard Albus Dumbledore . The main villain is the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry’s parents .
The stories are full of things that appeal to imagination of readers of all ages . One of them is the game of ‘Quidditch’, which Harry is very good at. It is a bit like football , although it takes place in the sky and the players ride on broomsticks!
The last seventh Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released globally on July 21, 2007 and broke sales records as the fastest-selling book ever. It sold 15 million copies in the first twenty- four hours following its release , including more than 11 million in the U.S. and U.K. alone . The previous record, nine million in its first day, had been held by Harry Potter and the Half -Blood Prince .

Wizards and Hogwarts! Muggles and mudbloods! Quidditch and broomsticks! None of those things mean anything to Harry Potter, a small, skinny, bespectacled boy with an unusual lightning -bolt shaped scar on his foreheaduntil his eleventh birthday. That's when he starts receiving letters inviting him to hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. Harry learns that his parents did not die in a car crash but were killed by voldemort, the lord of darkness, and that he's famous in the world of wizardry. So Harry leaves private drive where he lived with his aunt petunia, uncle vernon, and their hateful son dudley, who are mere muggles ( humans without one drop of magic in them), and embarks on a new life. And the changes continue as Harry spends year after year at hogwarts, a place where he not only learns about being a wizard, but also about friendship and loyalty and fear and courage, and about his own past and future, his family, and his destiny .

    Harry Potter
The Harry Potter books are the best books I ever read. They are quite long, but I have read all them and my mum says she will buy me the next one when it come out. My favourite is first one, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I think the autor must have a great image to be able to create all those caracters. I also like the Harry Potter films , and have got two of them in DVD. My favourite bits in the films are when Harry and the other students on Hogwarts plays the game of Quidditch, which looks like great fun.
Part V: Would you like to study in Hogwarts? Why? (Write around 90 words)

Last time I talked how Harry made up his mind that he is going to buy for Dobby one pair of socks every day in the year. Now I go on where I stopped my story.Four champions were taken to see the grounds for the maze, to see what they have to do in the third task, Suddenly appeared Mr. Crouch from the forest, who was speaking to trees and he seemed to be very infuriated and mad. He demanded to see Dumbledore instantly. Harry ran to the castle to get Dumbldore, and when they reached the place they saw that Mr. Crouch was stunned.. Sirius sent Harry a letter warning him to be more careful and to practice some new spells for the third task;. In Divination class, Harry fell asleep and dreamed about Voldemort, he woke up with a burning pain in his scar. Harry left class and settled on to tell about it to Dumbledore. In his cabinet Harry stared into a Pensieve which seemed to be really interesting to him
