Dear Tom, I talked to your sister and found out, that you are going to take an exam next week. I wanted to give you some advice. Last year I took my exams so I believe I could help you. First off I strongly recommend you to have a good night sleep the night before your exam. Study everything you might need but try not to overdo the studying. After all the exam is to test whether you have learned anything during the years you have spent in school. I believe you'll do just fine with the exams. Best wishes, Betti. Dear Kate, I think that travelling is the best way to broaden you mind and to explore the world. I haven't travelled a lot recently. The last place I visited was Finland, which was in August 2008. Formal Letters - Thank You Letter

11 November 2010 Dear Mr and Mrs Smith, I am writing to let you know that I have arrived home safely. My plane was just on time and everything went smoothly. I also wanted to thank you for letting me stay with you in your lovely summer cottage in England. I had the most wonderful time in England and I appreciate everything that you did for me to make me feel at home. I loved my room and the food tasted just like it does at home. You are a really nice family with warm hospitality. The visit to England really gave me an opportunitie to improve my English speaking skills, and it helped a lot. Also, I really enjoyed the beatiful view of the sea and the tourist attractions you took me to. Thank you once again for your warm hospitality and I hope we can still keep in touch and maybe some day, you could even visit me. Best wishes,

Staying in touch

They are also affordable for anyone. Nowadays almost all people have and use cellular phones, because you can talk to your friends everywhere where there is network connection. The other easy way to communicate is using internet, which was developed in 1968. Hundreds of millions of people are using internet all over the world. Using internet is very easy and most people learn to use it very quickly. It is much cheaper and faster way to chat with your friends or relatives than sending letters, because you do not have to buy stamps or envelopes. In the internet there are many programs where you can talk to people you know, most common programs used in EU are messenger and Skype. You can also send e-cards and e-mails at no cost. Many people still send letters, so it is not dying art; it is very common way wishing merry Christmas or happy birthday. Also sending postcards and letters are not very expensive. One disadvantage in using letters is its delivering speed

The invention of telephone

The invention of telephone The telephone is one of the greatest inventions in history. Early telephones were nothing like the ones we have today. Telephone is the Greek word for "far sound." Before the invention of telephone, people used fax, postal letters and birds to communicate. Alexander Graham Bell was an eminent scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who intented the first telephone. His mother and his wife were both deaf and that was the main reason which caused his interest to hearing devices. Bell invented the telephone by accident when he was trying to invent a device that could send more than one telegram at the same time. His research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices which

musician as a father. Leopold immediately recognised the potential in Wolfgang. He dedicated his life to supporting his son’s talent. Despite, or perhaps because, of their different characters, Wolfgang and Leopold Mozart were dependent on each other. For the remainder of his life, when Wolfgang had been working and living with his wife Constanze in Vienna for a considerable period of time, Leopold Mozart continued a dialogue with his son by writing letters.  Moving to Vienna Wolfgang left home for good in 1781. The move almost certainly aided Wolfgang's musical development; the great majority of his most celebrated works were composed in Vienna. As indicated by Mozart's return letters (which alone survive), Leopold was strongly opposed to the Vienna move, wanting Wolfgang to return to Salzburg. In 1785 Leopold visited Wolfgang and Constanze in Vienna, at a time when his son's career success was at its peak.

Agatha Christie - The Moving Finger

Lymstock was much like any other English village, no more than 300 people. Those that live there enjoy the peace of rural life and form a union to where it can be difficult for strangers to blend in. Fortunately, it wasn't much of a problem for Jerry and Joanna. They were just getting to know the town's strange members and their characters when an anonymous letter arrived, accusing the two of not being brother and sister, but lovers. The letter started a series of poison pen letters all over the village, which destroyed the safety the villagers took for granted. Right away, they knew it wasn't true and thought somebody was doing it just for laughs. The second letter went to Mrs Symmington, the local solicitor Mr Symmington's wife. It turned out the letters were no trick at all, when she committed suicide, after reading a letter that stated her last child wasn't her husband's. Her body was discovered with the letter, a glass containing

Helen keller ja Anne Sullivan

3. Anne Sullivan was born on April 14, 1866, in Agawam, Massachusetts. Her family had very little money and could not take care of her. When she was 10 years old she was sent to live in a home for poor people. Anne also had very poor vision. At the age of 14, she was sent to the Perkins School for the Blind to receive training to be a teacher for children who were blind. 4. Anne had to figure out a way to make Helen understand words and their meaning. She began to teach Helen letters, by signing them into her palm. Then just one month later, everything clicked. Anne held Helen's hand under a pump while signing W-A-T-E-R into her palm. Helen's whole face lit up. The word came to life. That day, she learned 30 words. 5. Quickly, she learned words and then sentences. Soon she was able to communicate by signing the manual alphabet. But Helen wasn't satisfied with signing alone. She wanted to learn to write. The methods of cryptography, on the other hand, do not conceal the presence of a secret message but render it unintelligible to outsiders by various transformations of the plaintext. Two basic transformations exist. In transposition, the letters of the plaintext are jumbled; their normal order is disarranged. To shuffle secret into ETCRSE is a transposition. In substitution, the letters of the plaintext are replaced by other letters, or by numbers or symbols. Thus secret might become 19 5 3 18 5 20, or XIWOXY in a more complicated system. In transposition, the letters retain their identities— the two e's of secret are still present in ETCRSE—but they lose their positions, while in substitution the letters retain their

A new school was about to reap the benefits of the artistic foundations established by prior generations in a city in the midst of a financial crisis. New York City was broke, therefore the transit system was poorly maintained. This led to the heaviest bombing in history. Writers began to increase the thickness of the letters and would also outline them with an additional colour. Caps from other aerosol products could provide a larger width of spray, leading to the development of the masterpiece. It is difficult to say who did the first masterpiece, it is commonly credited to Super Kool 223 of the Bronx and Wap of Brooklyn. Thank-you letter

thank you for being my English teacher on a two-week language course at the Lake School of English in Oxford. My English has gone much more better. Now I have less grammatical mistakes in speech and in writing. I learned about the British educational system and I saw the most important places in Southern Brittain. I also made some new friends in Oxford. We promised to each other to exchange some postcards and write letters. They are really outgoing and friendly. I hope I can come to Oxford in the next year. Thank you for the language course, which was the best part of my summer. Yours sincerely, Malle Maasikas

Letter of complaint

I am writing to complain about International Friendship Club. The advertisement about the club was misleading in several ways. First of all, the advertisement said that the photograph of me and my family will be returned directly but I sent my photo a month ago and there hasn't been any return yet. It also claimed that I will receive the names and address of the people who will correspond with me whereas I got only two so far. To make matters worse the advertisement said that I will get letters from my six new friends but I have heard nothing about them. Finally, why did I get a bill although that service is supposed to be free for all students? Yours faithfully, Piret Elias

Complaint letter

Dear Sir, My name is ... I am writing this letter following my stay at your hotel, Hotel Titanic. I stayed in room 603 from September 3rd to September 10th. I am wiriting becouse of the poor level of service and overall an unpleasant experience. When I first got to the hotel, I had to wait for 15 minutes in the reception before a young woman came, and helped us book in. Throughout my stay I was served mediocre food. The bathroom wasen't cleaned properly and the room servise was pretty bad. The room servise rearly changed my bed sheets and towels. There were 6 power-cuts wich each lasted for atleast 2 minutes. Worse still, I had an extremly noisy neighbour who was entertaining his visitors until 4 AM, two nights in a row. I even complained to the manager but that didn't impove the situation until the third day. Overall the stay wasen't worth the cost but I am not asking for a chargeback. I just hope that you will improve your customer...

Pärast Suurt Pauku Suurest paugust tekkis ülituline ülikiiresti paisuv tulekera. Praeguses universumis olev aine (galaktikad, tähed, meie ise) koosneb tervenisti tol ajal tekkinud osaksestest.
