All Marketers are liars

In his book, All Marketers are Liars, Seth Godin contends that consumers prefer fantasy to the truth, and that consequently marketers should "live the lie, fully and completely." Stopping short of endorsing marketing methods which might kill people, Godin says that marketers should "give people what they want." The book is telling a story about why marketers must forsake any attempt to communicate nothing but the facts, and must focus on what people believe and then work to tell them stories that add their worldview. HIGHLIGHTS Before marketing, before shopping carts and long before informercials, people started telling themselves stories. Stories make it easier to understand the world. Stories are the only way to spread an idea. Marketers didn´t invent storytelling. They just perfected it. We tell ourselves stories, because we´re superstitious. Stories are shortcuts we use because we ´re too overwhelmed by data to discover all the details. We tell stories about products,

Agatha Christie "Partners in crime"

Tuppence was delighted because before that she was very bored and she had nothing to do. Before catching the spy they start working as real detectives. They are pretty good at solving mysterious cases because they are great fans of detective novels. Tommy and Tuppence like to role play. Every time they have a costumer they parody all kinds of famous fictional detectives from Dr Thorndyke to Hercule Poirot. Tommy is Poirot in the last chapter when he catches the spy. All mini stories were great but my favourite one was called The Unbreakable Alibi. A man comes to them with a request to outsmart his future wife. The woman had told him that she had been in two places at the same time and she had unbreakables alibis to prove it. Tommy and Tuppence found it very difficult to prove that she was not in one of the places. Finally, they discovered that she had a twin sister. I chose this book because I had not heard about these two before. At first I

Legends of Tallinn

It was interesting to read stories, how Tallinn got its name beacuse of the goat, who fell from the cliff and why Tallinn will never be ready. *Tallinn is magnificent old-town, wich is full of legends about, cruelty, tragedy and magic 3 Legends of Tallinn Tallinn is a city of legends, and almost every house has its story to told some of them are nicer, some of them are more terrible. As it is with ethnic stories, every teller adds something of his own. Because of that many legends have been difficult to find a specific historical background. Some of them even tend to be more science fictional than true. A unique color is added by old-fashioned style and language. Tallinn has a long and complicated history. Tallinn has had more than twenty different names. Tallinn was for the first time mentioned in written sources in the Arab geographer al-Idrisi's in 1154

Rudyard Kipling

She was one of the seven principal mediums involved in the famous cross-correspondences cases. Fleming continued to do automatic writing until 1910, when she suffered a nervous breakdown. Early Life Rudyard Kipling was born Joseph Rudyard Kipling on 30 December 1865 in Bombay, in British India. Some of Kipling's earliest and fondest memories are of his and sister Alice's trips to the bustling fruit market with their ayah or nanny, or her telling them Indian nursery rhymes and stories before their nap in the tropical afternoon heat. His father's art studio provided many creative outlets with clay and paints. Often the family took evening walks along the Bombay Esplanade beside the Arabian Sea, the dhows bobbing on the glittering waters. Kipling's days of "strong light and darkness" in Bombay were to end when he was five years old.[21] As was the custom in British India, he and his three-year-old sister, Alice

The Gifts of Imperfection: Embrace Who You Are

and connection that we need to embrace our imperfections and to recognize that we are enough— that we are worthy of love, belonging, and joy? This book is full of powerful topics such as self-compassion, acceptance, and gratitude. As a researcher, she observed human behavior so she can identify and name the subtle connections, relationships, and patterns that help us make meaning of our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. In the process of collecting thousands of stories from diverse men and women who lived all over the country—ranging in age from eighteen to eighty-seven— She saw new patterns that she wanted to know more about. Yes, we all struggle with shame and the fear of not being enough. And, yes, many of us are afraid to let our true selves be seen and known. But in this huge mound of data there was also story after story of men and women who were living these amazing and inspiring lives.

He mentions his good old friend Mr. Boughton tells about a small disaster that had happened to their hens and the barn. John Ames really wants his son to know and remember him when he is gone and tries to give a detailed list of his regrets and meaningful stories hoping his son learns from them. story, "The Final Problem". Public outcry led him to bring the character back; Conan Doyle returned to the story in "The Adventure of the Empty House", with the explanation that only Moriarty had fallen but, since Holmes had other dangerous enemies, he had arranged to be temporarily "dead" also. Holmes ultimately appears in a total of 56 short stories and four Conan Doyle novels (he has since appeared in many novels and stories by other authors). Following the Boer War in South Africa at the turn of the 20th century and the condemnation from around the world over the United Kingdom's conduct, Conan Doyle wrote a short pamphlet titled, The War in South Africa: Its Cause and Conduct, which justified the UK's role in the Boer war, and was widely translated. Conan Doyle believed that it was this pamphlet that resulted in 1902 in his being knighted and appointed Deputy-Lieutenant of Surrey. He also in 1900 wrote the longer

They present news in a more direct way, with large headlines, lots of colour and photos and relatively little in-depth analysis. They often feature games and competitions (where readers can win mouth-watering prizes) and are designed to be read quickly perhaps even flicked through on the way to work. There are a lot of stories about TV and showbiz personalities as well as ''human interest'' stories about ordinary people. The first newspaper in Estonian was Tarto Maa-Rahva Näddali-leht, which started in 1806. Perno Postimees started in 1857 and it has a very important role in creating the Estonians' national feeling. Some otherkin also claim to be especially empathic and attuned to nature. Influences- Tales about werewolfs, vampires, dragons, arcangels have been told hundreds years before the first otherkin community was founded. It is obvious that these stories and strange events connected to these stories influenced the appearance of real vampires and half-unicorns but there comes the question- where were the otherkins two hundred years ago? Or why did they firstly appear only 20 years ago? Well, it is believed that non-human humans always lived on the planet, thruout the history but only in 1990-s they had a chance to talk about themselves, after the World experienced so much- two world wars, genocide etc. Only then could the

The Canterbury tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

Essay based on ,,The General Prologue" by G. Chaucer Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury tales at the end of the 14th century. It is a collection of stories where a group of pilgrims have a storytelling contest. All of them are on their way from Southwark to visit the shrine of a holy martyr who had brought health to them when they were ill. Chaucer joined the twenty nine of them in a tavern and started to talk to them. They quickly became friends and then there were thirty. All of the stories and very different characters create a body to the story, which depicts the picture of the English society at that time.

The popular press is mainly represented by papers founded after the launching day of the Daily Mail in 1896. Today such papers are largely tabloid. 'Tabloid' is a term, used for substances which were compressed into pills. The tabloids 'compress' the news and are printed on small sheets of paper. They contain sensational stories, using techniques such as very large headlines and photographs. Tabloids do not contain much serious news, but offer plenty of sport and 'human interest' plus a bit of 'scandal'. The most popular are The Sun, The Mirror, The Express and the Daily Mail. Popular Sunday papers began in the mid-ninteenth century and were aimed at people who could not afford more expensive daily papers. The quality Sunday papers (The Sunday Times, The Observer
