Living Stone

Kontserdiarvustus Living Stone 19.-21. jaanuaril toimus Põltsamaal üle-eestilised talvepäevad, millest ka mina osa võtsin. Teemaks oli ,,Oh ajad, oh kombed". Talvepäevadel oli palju rahvast ja me puutusime koguaeg muusikaga kokku. Toimusid erinevad kontserdid, kus üles astusid muusikakollektiivid Septem, Living Stone ja Trepikoda. Kõige enam meeldis mulle gospelkoori Living Stone kontsert. Mis on üldse gospel? Living Stone on gospelkoor, mis alustas oma tegevust 2006 aasta sügisel. Gospelkoori lauljad on: 1. Sopranis: Maive, Astrid, Mariliis, Annela, Heidi, Karoliina, Liina-Ly ja Kadri. 2. Aldis: Gerda, Jana, Sigrid, Jaana, Kertu, Kristel, Hallili, Ave-Liis, Reelika ja Anneliis. 3. Tenoris: Taavi, Kristjan, Tarvo ja Indrek. 4. Bassis: Lauri, Imre, Meelis, Heigo, Kaur ja Jaanus. Dirigent on Indrek Luide; Koormeistrid: Marju Luide ja Kadri Koppel;

Yellow stone puma

The Mountain Lion cougar (Puma concolor), also puma, cougar, or panther, is a member of the Felidae family, native to the Americas. This large, solitary cat has the greatest range of any wild land mammal in the Western Hemisphere, extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America. An adaptable species, the cougar is found in every major North American habitat. The Mountain lions of Yellowstone region were significantly reduced by predator control measures during the early 1900s. It is reported that 121 lions were removed from the park between the years 1904 and 1925. Then, the remaining population was estimated to be 12 individuals. Mountain lions apparently existed at very low numbers between 1925 and 1940. They maintain a secretive profile in the Yellowstone region. Although the cougar population numbered in the hundreds during the early 1900s, controlled hunts between 1904 and 1925 decimated the population. Today,...

„Frost formation and Condensation in Stone-wool Insulations“

Tallinna Tehnikaülikool Ehitusfüüsika kodutöö ,,Frost formation and Condensation in Stone-wool Insulations" Artikli refereerimine Tallinn 2011 Kondensaadi ja härmatise moodustumine kivivill-isolatsioonis Kokkuvõte Ehitusplatsidelt saadud praktilised kogemused tõendavad, et kondenseerunud niiskusel on negatiivseid effekte kiulistele isolatsioonimaterjalide.

Alchemy English

For thousand of years scientists all over the world have sought for three main goals of alchemy. The most renowned goal of alchemy is the transmutation of any metal into gold or silver. Also they tried to create universal panacea. It's a remedy that would cure all diseases and prolong life indefinitely. The philosphper's stone was the key in these goals. This mythical substance could just as well be powder or liquid. Alchemy is considered as the precursor of the modern science of chemistry. The Philospher's stone is perhaps best known in Britain through the best-selling book and movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone. But its origins go back thousands of years to ancient world. In those times a philospher was a secret wizard and a powerful sage. But what exaclty is a philospher's stone

The Vikings

For Vikings, weapons were not only used for battle, but they were also used to show each individual's own wealth and social status. For this reason, most Viking weapons were decorated with precious gems which made them very valuable The main offensive weapons were the spear, sword, and battle axe. Swords were a sign of high status because they were costly to make. Art and crafts Vikings were skilled craftsmen making objects from stone, wood and metal. The blacksmiths were very well respected. Some jewellery was made especially to be buried with someone who had died. Gold pendants were made to wear around the neck, some were thought to be magical charms. Food & feasts The average Viking family ate two meals a day. The meals were usually prepared at the central hearth. Goat, beef and horse meat was popular among the Vikings. Wines were made of berries and fruit.

Symbols of Estonia

Estonian homes. Its call can be heard from practically every eave or barn rafter in the country. If the bird finds a suitable opening, under the ridge of a roof or a broken window, it will build its cup-shaped nest; it will even build it inside a house. The choice of the barn swallow as a national bird was mainly the result of a campaign conducted by ornithologists at the beginning of the sixties. The Barn Swallow has been the national bird of Estonia since 23 June 1960. National stone Estonian national stone is the country's valuable grey limestone. Estonia lies on a thick layer of limestone which is visible on the steep banks of northern and western Estonia. Most castles, churches, farm buildings, and countless stone fences are made of limestone. Research on limestone and its well-preserved fossils has for centuries brought Estonian scientists international renown. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why numerous scientists supported the declaration of limestone

Stonehenge

C. The cremation burial dating to Stonehenge's sarsen stones phase is likely just one of many from this later period of the monument's use and demonstrates that it was still very much a domain of the dead. " Etymology Christopher Chippindale's Stonehenge Complete gives the derivation of the name Stonehenge as coming from the Old English words "stn" meaning "stone", and either "hencg" meaning "hinge" (because the stone lintels hinge on the upright stones) or "hen(c)en" meaning "hang" or "gallows" or "instrument of torture". Medieval gallows consisted of two uprights with a lintel joining them, resembling Stonehenge's trilithons, rather than looking like the inverted L-shape more familiar today. The "henge" portion has given its name to a class of monuments known as henges. Archaeologists define henges as earthworks consisting of a circular banked enclosure with an internal ditch

Giza pyramids

Giza Pyramid The Pyramids of Egypt are the largest constructions ever built and they are one of the most potent and enduring symbols of Ancient Egyptian civilization. They were buildings, where the dead kings and queens were placed. The pyramids were built between 2575-2465 BC. There were used 2, 3 million blocks of stone to build the Great Pyramid. Each block of stone weighed 2.5 tons and about 20 men transported it. There was about 100,000 men working there and it took about 20 years to build the Giza pyramid. This is the formula of setting the blocks to the Giza Pyramid : 2,400,000 stones used ÷ 20 years ÷ 365 days per year ÷ 10 work hours per day ÷ 60 minutes per hour = 0.55 stones laid per minute. Giza is the location of the Pyramid of Khufu also known as the "Great Pyramid" and the "Pyramid of Cheops"

Its name is ´´´southland´´. Since it is south of equator, its seasons are just the opposite of ours . Sometimes Australia is called the island continent . Two hundred years ago there were no white people in Australia . The only inhabitants were dark-skinned people who were still living in a Stone Age . Their only weapons were stone knives, simple spears, and boomerangs . For food they hunted and fished and gathered wild fruits and nuts . Dutch sailors stopped at several places on the northern and western coasts in the 1600s . They brought back word that the land was ´´ of very little use ´´ . The City on London

Romans. The Roman Londinium grew up on the northern side of the "London Bridge" in the past. Products such as olive oil, wines and fruit were brought by ships from different parts of the Roman Empire and unloaded onto wooden quays along the river. In AD 61 the native Celtic Iceni tribe, led by Queen Boudicca, rose up against The Romans. They burnt Londinium to the ground but Roman armies eventually defeated Boudicca. The city was rebuilt and was gradually surrounded with a wall of stone and brick which lasted for many centuries. During the archeological excavations in 1954 the Roman Temple of Mithras was revealed. It was a pagan temple dedicated to the Persian Sun-god. The Temple was later reconstructed only a short way from its original site and the relics are displayed in the Museum of London in the Barbican. At the end of the fourth century AD the Roman Empire began to crumble and the Roman armies were recalled from Britain to defend Rome itself. Once they had

The .cloisxer and refectory contain a permanent exhibition of carved stone slabs. Sea and limestone ( dolomaite) are two symbols of northern Estonia. Tallinn owes much of its distincitve flavour to the use of the beautiful stone in its walls and towers, and in its secular and religious architecure. Carved stone decorated public buildings and private houses. The designs employed belong to the Gothic renaissance and Baroque periods. Windows were emphasized by slender piers and graceful curves. London - sillad, tornid, ajalugu

The home of the London Bridge as it appeared in Roman times was in virtually the same spot as the home of the London Bridge today, suspended over the Thames River. The Romans were not the only people in London Bridge history to construct a wooden bridge. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Saxons were known to have built at least one, if not many (due to destruction by fire and other calamities) timber bridges. The first stone structure in London Bridge history was built in the 12th century and took 33 years to complete. King John was in power when the bridge was finally completed, and it was King John who had the idea to build houses on the bridge itself. The history of the London Bridge goes on to reflect that scores of houses and shops quickly built up on the bridge. The number of people residing on the bridge eventually became so high that the bridge became its own district in London. Each side of the

The Tower of London

It has been the stage on which much of England's dramatic but often sad and bloody saga of royal history has been played out. The founding of the Tower The Tower of London was founded by King William the Conqueror. After his coronation on Christmas Day, 1066, William hastily ordered the erection of a wooden fortress between the Thames and the ancient Roman wall which then surrounded London. William began the building of what is now termed as the White Tower ten years later. A rectangular stone keep of Caen stone, designed as an impregnable fortress and as an impressive and awesome demonstration of his power to the Londoners. With ramparts which were fifteen feet thick at the base and walls soaring ninety feet high, the dominating shadow of the Tower loomed forebodingly over the huddled wooden buildings of medieval London, a visible expression of Norman power. The White Tower consisted of three storeys and contains the austere Norman Chapel of St. John,

might have taken place in the year 1892, but actually, the two men never did meet. A copy of the sculpture was given as a gift from the town of Tartu to the Irish city of Galway in 2004. Father and Son The bronze sculpture, "Father and Son", created by sculptor Ülo Õuna (1944-1988), was placed on Küüni Street, on Children's Day ('childrens protection day'), 1 June 2004. Bridges Tartu Stone Bridge In the 18th century the first stone bridge in the Baltics was built at the end of the Town Hall Square, with two triumph arches and a lifting centre, which was dedicated to Catherine II and was opened for traffic in 1784. The bridge was destroyed in World War II, now it can only be admired by way of the model bridge, which was created in 2004. Tartu was hit by a great fire in 1775, during the course of which a large part of the city center burned down. Catherine II

foreign landlords remained in a small minority. With the construction of the Riigikogu building within the walls of the castle, the Estonian seat of power was perpetuated on Toompea. Throughout the greater part of our independent statehood both the Estonian Parliament and the Government have worked here, but in summer 2000 the Government moved to the Stenbock House According to an old legend, the hill of Toompea was heaped up, stone by stone, by Linda, in mourning for her husband Kalev. The earliest buildings confirmed by historical data originate from the 9th century when ancient Estonians took advantage of the steep escarpment of Toompea and erected here their ancient stronghold of Lindanisa, one of the best-protected strongholds in Estonia. A settlement of tradesmen and artisans began to develop at the foot of Toompea hill. Farmers from the neighbouring counties, mainly from Rävala County, were the masters of Toompea stronghold

Giidindus- Toompea

TOOMPEA Toompea (from German Domberg – Cathedral Hill ) is a limestone hill with an area of about 7 hectares in the central part of Tallinn. It towers about 30-40 m above the surrounding areas. According to the legend it´s the tumulus mound over the grave of the national hero Kalev, erected stone by stone in his memory by his grieving wife Linda. It is the birthplace of Tallinn - a place where in 1229 the Knights of the Sword built a fortress instead of the wooden Estonian stronghold. Toompea Castle is also one of the most potent symbols of the reigning power. Today Toompea is the seat of the Government of Estonia as well as the Riigikogu, both of which are often simply colloquially referred to as Toompea. For centuries there was only one access to Toompea - Pikk Jalg - but there is also

Kuressaare castle

A year before the castle had been sold to the Knighthood of Saaremaa for 3,000 roubles During 1904-1912 the convent building was renovated by architects W. Neumann and H.Seuberlich. The two upper floors of the Defence Tower were constructed anew; the window frames in the cloister of the main floor were restored and the wall between the chapel and the festive refectory rebuilt; some of the doors were relocated and windows widened; new ovens and staircases were built; stone plates with the coats-of-arms of the local noblemen were mured into wall of the cloister. In 1968 extensive restoration works were started and carried out on the basis of the plan made by K. Aluve. I recommend all to visit Kuressaare Castle, because it is a fascinating historical place for adults or children. Kristel Kiisk

primitive ingenuity and craft technology that is important to recognize. Since some of their materials cannot be original, these structures will have to pass the test of authenticity. In 51 BC, during the Gallic War, Caesar attested to the construction of narrow wooden bridges by Gallic builders over wide rivers as the Loire, Seine, and Allier of 600ft (200m) span, used by pedestrians and domestic animals. The stone vault probably first sprang forth in Anatolia and the Aegean region of Asia Minor (central and western Turkey) in the 2nd millennium BC for short spans in civic construction. The Mesopotamian civilizations introduced the first major development of brick vaulting in the royal palaces, and also probably the first important arch bridges in the 6th century BC. Ideal house - ideaal maja

Ideal house. My ideal house would be located in the UK, because there is a bit warmer than in Estonia. I have heard that there are many interesting and exciting people. My house could be located close to the city. There would be a big garden with lots of beautiful flowers and trees. In the garden there could be a small pond with a water lilys. I want that my garden would be eccentric. My house could be a stone because it is resistant to everything. Also, there should be the chimney. But the most important, that the house would be comfortable.
