The Witch Trials in Salem

Witchcraft Witchcraft is the alleged use of supernatural or magical powers. A witch (from Old English wicca m. / wicce f.) is a practitioner of witchcraft. Historically, it was widely believed that witchcraft involved the use of these powers to inflict harm upon members of a community or their property, and that all witches were in league with the devil. Since the mid 20th century, the term witchcraft has sometimes been used to distinguish between bad witchcraft and good witchcraft, with the latter often involving healing. Human misfortune was often blamed on a supernatural entity or a known person in the community.

than 50 different languages. Most of the readers are children or young teenagers, but the books are unusual in the way that they also appeal to adults. Each of the six books covers about a year in Harry's life as he grows from a boy into a teenager. At the start of the first book we learn that he is an orphan who lives with his horrible aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. On his eleventh birthday he discovers he is a wizard, and soon afterwards goes off to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which is where most of the action in the six books takes place. Hogwarts is part of a magical world that is invisible to people without magical powers, who are known as `Muggles'. Harry is the hero of all the stories, though there are many other likeable characters such as his friends Ron and Hermione, and the powerful wizard Albus Dumbledore. The main villain is the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents.

History of the English language

Peculiarities of Old English pronunciation and spelling /f/ and /v/ were allophones, i.e. there was no phonemic difference between them: no minimal pairs where /f/ and /v/ would make a difference in meaning. The letter f used for both. In a voiced environment the pronunciation voiced, ie /v/, in a voiceless environment unvoiced, ie /f/. At the beginning of words: debatable. By constrast, vowel length was phonemic: man /man/ human being, man mn /ma :n/ - evil; witchcraft In old manuscripts vowel length indicated by ´ (like a stress mark), in modern editions a strike over the vowel. The scribes proceeded from the Latin alphabet. However, there were sounds in Old English that Latin did not have. Solutions had to be found. /æ/ - the sound is between /a/ and /e/, so a digraph (Greek for "two + letter") was created: æ (A similar thing in French, the digraph oe still in use, e.g. oeil eye) Old English had /ü/ like other Germanic languages today (e.g. German)

It is part of the United Kingdom, and shares a land border to the south with England. It is bounded by the North Sea to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, and the North Channel and Irish Sea to the southwest. In addition to the mainland, Scotland consists of over 790 islands including the Northern Isles and the Hebrides. Edinburgh, the country's capital and second largest city, is one of Europe's largest financial centres. It was the hub of the Scottish Enlightenment of the 18th century, which saw Scotland become one of the commercial, intellectual and industrial powerhouses of Europe. Scotland's largest city is Glasgow, which was once one of the world's leading industrial metropolises, and now lies at the centre of the Greater Glasgow conurbation which dominates the Scottish Low...

Law-makers breaking the law: torture as a justified interrogation technique?

By belief that people could be possessed by the devil, these people were heavily tortured until they admitted to it. A known example of this is how the suspect's arms and legs were tied and then thrown into the water. If the person sank, they were innocent. This was seen as god's judgment. Because of the conviction that witches were possessed by the devil, torture was justified. Because of it, nearly all admitted to being possessed and therefore also others were blamed of witchcraft. In places where there was more torture, there were also more convictions. Torture with the aim to obtain information is therefore of no use for many reasons. There has to be an existing idea of the kind of information someone is suspected of possessing. The person tortured will of course confirm these suspicions if it relieves the pain. This of course says nothing about the truthfulness of the confession. Torture thus simply confirms existing expectations and contributes nothing to the truth.

William Shakespeare - Hamlet

Ghost I find thee apt; And duller shouldst thou be than the fat weed That roots itself in ease on Lethe wharf, Wouldst thou not stir in this. Now, Hamlet, hear: 'Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, A serpent stung me; so the whole ear of Denmark Is by a forged process of my death Rankly abused: but know, thou noble youth, The serpent that did sting thy father's life Now wears his crown. HAMLET O my prophetic soul! My uncle! Ghost Ay, that incestuous, that adulterate beast, With witchcraft of his wit, with traitorous gifts,— O wicked wit and gifts, that have the power So to seduce!—won to his shameful lust The will of my most seeming-virtuous queen: O Hamlet, what a falling-off was there! From me, whose love was of that dignity That it went hand in hand even with the vow I made to her in marriage, and to decline Upon a wretch whose natural gifts were poor To those of mine! But virtue, as it never will be moved, Though lewdness court it in a shape of heaven,

males can simply apply strong pressure down on the pubic bone and up toward the woman's head, using overlapping hands as indicated. Let her dictate the pressure. Most women, in my experience, find the strongest possible pressure the most pleasurable for ending a session. I initially thought this closing portion was a waste of time. "Grounding"? It sounded like a bunch of New Age nonsense. Now I believe that grounding is important not as some type of energetic witchcraft, but rather for closure. It consummates a complete experience with beginning (setup), middle (stroking), and end (grounding). This format gives both parties a sense of accomplishment that artfully helps avoid xation on a full-blown orgasm as closure. Remember that it's the goalless nature of the practice that allows the relaxation that produces the orgasm. This guaranteed outcome the practice that allows the relaxation that produces the orgasm.
