MY SCHOOL & SPECIALITY
Kuressaare Regional Training Centre is an educational institute that provides initial vocational training and in wide area of specialties.
The school was established on the 6th of november 1922, named the Kuressaare Ehitusinstruktorite school. First accepted 19 students to the new school. This marks the beginning of the continuous training on Saaremaa.
Nowdays, over 1000 of students enrolled in school.
As tourism is an important industry in our region , training specialists in catering, cooking, tourism management and hotel service has a very important role . Construction and related fields like carpentry have also quite a number of students.
My school is located on an island which has a strong seamanship traditions and small vessel building companies, Kuressaare Reginal Traingin Centre is the only vocational school in Estonia training boat builders.
Other specialties are car repairing, business management, social work , information technology , handicraft and artistic design.
My speciality is artistic design, which is 120 weeks of study , which makes the course 3 years long. Kuressaare Reginal Training Centre is one of only two schools in Estonia, where elementary school graduates can come to acquire the artistic development of the specialty.  Through the course and students spare time, many cultural events, narrow circle of performances and exhibitions are done in the area by the students.
All subjects are very important starting with math and going up to advertising psychology. As any other high school, we also have the basic subjects as Estonian, Literature, Physics , Chemistry, Biology etc. Although we have them in a lesser extent, which makes us more space to have other subjects such as The world's cultural history, Art history, Advertising, Advertising Psychology, Perspective and Drawing , Advertising, Ceramics , Specialty composition , Computer design, Photography etc.
For example in Computer design we study different picture and video editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel , Adobe Illustrator etc, we edit photos and make ad’s. In Advertising Psychology we study why are the ad’s like they are, how the work, why does the company use the colors they use. We analyze and explore different ad’s and commercials .
In Painting we paint and draw Nature Morte and at the end of every semester we rip them on the walls and all the teachers rate them.
At the end of every year we have a few month of practice where we go to some Design company or like I did – go to some newspaper and practice what we’ve learned. This is also graded by the teachers.
Artistic design graduates are trained to work at advertising agency’s, in media, and manufacturing companies.
Our school year is divided to two – one part of the year we have main high school subjects, the other part are the speciality subjects and practices .
Target groups are all people – youner or older, who ever are willing to learn.
The classrooms, toiletrooms and corridors all are newly renovated and oftenly covered with paintings .
Because of our uniqueness in Estonia for being the 1 out of 2, we also have campuses where students outside from the island can stay while studying in school. The campuses are always full. The campuses have also the hotel/hostel side, where students have their own bathroom in the room . Others, who don,t need to go downstairs for shower or bathroom.
We also have a restaurant which is led by our teachers and where the students of such work and cook . Beside that, we also have 2 canteens, where every student is given 20 kroons per day for lunch .
My day starts off at 8.30, normally we have an 1.5 hour lesson – painting, ceramics or so. After that we often have a lunch break which is sometimes eaven up to 1hour. After the lunch break we go to a few more lessons. My day ends up at about 16.00-17.00. For the lessons being so long – we actually don’t have a lot of home work. Often we stay at the Décor to some together, just because it is more fun to do it together with someone . A lot of our speciality students stay in school after the lessons to do their homework while chating, listening some music, painting or doing ceramics just for fun. Going to my school is more like going to some hobby -centre, it’s less stress free, it’s FREE(no charge for anything you do) and mainly – it is fun!
