QUESTIONS AND ROLE PLAY
When you have completed your monologue , you will be asked 4-5 questions related to the topic of your monologue. This is nothing like asking and answering questions: try to behave as if in a real conversation . Respond naturally in 2-3 utterances but you are not expected to be lengthy at this stage. Speak fluently with appropriate pronunciation and intonation and only natural pauses. Express yourself confidently, clearly and politely. If you fail to understand the question, say ‘Pardon?’ with the rising tone and the interviewer will interpret the question to make it clear for you. The following expressions of asking someone to repeat can also be useful:
- Could you say that again, please ?
- Would you mind repeating that, please?
- Could you repeat that, please?
Once you have finished, you will be moved on to the next task . The interviewer will hand you a card with a task on it. You will read it to yourself. You will have 1 minute to think about it. You will be told when the time is up. Note- taking is not allowed at this stage.
Role play is interaction! Interact naturally with appropriate openings, responses, fillers , amplifications:
1. Make an introductionuse the task; identify yourself, say what you want to know and whether the person is willing to talk to you. For example:
  • I’d like some information about the hotel , please. Could you please give me more details about it?
  • Can you do me a favour and ……… ?
  • Do you mind if I ask you some questions about the admission requirements?
  • Is it all right if I ask you some questions about … ?

Mind the register !
2. Ask different types of questions.
3. Do not forget to ask a reported question.
4. Use linking devices to introduce your questions.
- To start with, / First of all,/ Secondly, …
- And another thing is that … . Are there any alternatives to … ?
- Oh good . My first question is about …. . (Ask a question)
- I hear it is common in Britain to…. Could you…?
- My next question is about … Are there ….?
- Now, do you think … ?
- Something else I want to ask you about is… . I wonder if … .
- Last but not least , … ?
5. Show that you are listening , show interest and emotions . Comment on the answers you have got. When you interview another person, it is natural to react to what you have heard to keep the conversation going :
- Now, you mentioned … . (Ask a question)
- So, that’s how … ?
- Yes, I was going to ask you about … . (Ask a question)
- Could you give me an example of … ?
- Could you explain in more detail how we can apply for … ?
Showing interest:
- Oh, good (intonation going down). Now, … ?
- Oh, that’s nice.
- Good. Now, could you … ?
- Excellent. And would you … ?
- Oh, really ?
- That’s interesting .
- Right.
6. Try to show your own competence/opinion in the field .
7. Make a conclusion according to the task.
9. Finish by thanking the person for the information given and the time she/he has spent on you:
- Thank you for your time and co- operation , you’ve been very helpful.
10. Polite departure.
If you do not finish the role play as required , you will be asked ‘Is that all you wanted to say?’ I do not think it would be a good idea to say ‘yes.’ Just finish it correctly – better late than never !
And here it comes: ‘THANK YOU. THIS IS THE END OF THE INTERVIEW’ You sigh with ease , sign the attendance form and leave the room for the corridor to wait for you scores.
IF YOU FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS AND PREPARE FOR THE EXAM , YOU ARE BOUND TO BE A SUCCESS !

topic you want to, there is no compulsion. The whole point of this exercise is to generate a mass of information that will help you in selecting your topic for the essay. Try to make your topic focused and broad at the same time, it sounds paradoxical but it's not. If the topics above do not help in stimulating your creativity and eliminating the writers' block, try following some of these steps: Ask help from parents, friends or colleagues Consider your childhood Consider your role models Read sample admission essays Goal determination Once you have generated the list of potential topics, look over it and revise. Add something if you want to and remove things you feel you might not be able to write about. Do this as many times as you can over the period of one week and develop your thoughts. Another good idea would be to show your list to people who know you and get feedback from them.

Calling it a horrid crime for us to mingle The devil's finery with holy things. [Footnote 1: Referring to the rebellion called La Fronde, during the minority of Louis XIV.] [Footnote 2: Moliere's note, inserted in the text of all the old editions. It is a curious illustration of the desire for uniformity and dignity of style in dramatic verse of the seventeenth century, that Moliere feels called on to apologize for a touch of realism like this. Indeed, these lines were even omitted when the play was given.] SCENE III ELMIRE, MARIANE, DAMIS, CLEANTE, DORINE ELMIRE (to Cleante) You're very lucky to have missed the speech She gave us at the door. You have a self-concept for how well you do your work, and for how well you do each part of your work. You have a self- concept for how much money you make and how well you save and invest it. This is a critical area. The fact is that you can never earn much more or less than your self-concept level of income. If
