Corporal punishment

Corporal punishment In my opinion corporal punishment is unnecessary in our society, because nowadays students may react too fiercely. I believe with all the changes taking place in our world today, it is not realistic to think that the idea of corporal punishment would ever take hold again in schools. I think that most children would respond negatively to a change like this and that this change would only create more of a problem in the long run. Bullying can have a very bad effect on the child who is being bullied and on the child who is allowed to go on bullying. Corporal punishment was not allowed in our school. That is strictly denied to physically punish students in any way. In closing I believe that corporal punishment in schools is a thing of the past. I think that corporal punishment is wrong

Letter for aunt Annette

Dear Annette Thank you for your letter. I'm glad that you liked my Christmas card and the letter that I sent. It is nice to hear from you again. How are you going ? I hope that you find the smaller house. If you find a new house, please send me a pictures of house and new letter and your new address. In school everything is in the best order. I'm getting on very well with my teachers and classmates. I have even started to understand chemistry because at the moment we are learning a very easy chapter. Also thank you for noticing my English improvement. I've been learning a lot because I'm planning to take an English exam. I even hired an English tutor for a while, but it was too expensive and because of that I'm learning by myself. I have no plans for the summer. Basically I'm planning to enjoy the summer and visit the beach, go swimming and hang out with friends. Thank you for the invitation. I would love to come to London. We would ha...

and evolve into miniature versions of what they are today. This could force some creatures, that people eat, to become extinct, Dr David Bickford from the National University of Singapore reviewed research showing creatures from deer to tortoises, gulls, goshawks and even polar bears have already shrunk over the past 50 years. 'Because recent climate change may be faster than past historical changes in climate, many organisms may not respond or adapt quickly enough. The species that can adapt are the species that will be affected by potential declines in body size.' Researches say warmer and drier conditions have seen an increase in droughts which have shrunk some plants, and acidification of the ocean has affected the size of algae and plankton which are at the bottom of the food chain. Experimental research has also shown that for every degree Celsius of warming, plants of

The letter to Australia

3 Aprill 2011 Hi Nipitiri! It's been such a long time that I haven't written to you ! Don't worry, it doesn't mean that I had forgotten you. I hope that You had a great time in Australia. I have never been in Australia, so I want to ask some question from you. I hope you don't mind and you will have a time to respond to the letter. I have heard that there is a weird and wonderful musical instrument called a didgeridoo. Did you saw it? How it looks? And how they play it? I'll like if you will talk to me about it. It seems a very interesting instrument. Australins have a strong sense of humour and I have read that they will tell anti-English jokes to the English, anti-lawyer jokes to the lawyers and anti- mother-in-law jokes to mothers-in-law. Is is true? Did Australians laugh about you

Manners in Estonia

They are generally polite and courteous speakers. Estonians are somewhat pragmatic and reserved, especially in the early stages of developing a business relationship. Estonians are not emotive speakers. If you are from a culture where hand gestures are robust, you may wish to moderate them to conform to local practices. Soft voices are the norm. If you have a booming voice, you may wish to moderate it when conducting business with Estonians. Estonians do not always respond to what has been said, especially if they are uncomfortable with the subject or if they need more time to organize their thoughts. Although they are direct communicators, Estonians temper their directness in order to protect the feelings of all concerned. They are slow to pay compliments and may become suspicious of compliments offered too readily and without sufficient reason. Passive silence is very much part of the communication style.

Stress in the life of young people

Stress in the life of young people We should acknowledge from the start that we all have stress in our lives and it's completely normal. The problem is that the age of people suffering from the stress is getting younger every year. We are all a little different and and also respond differently to situations that make us feel stressed. It is clear that there are many things that cause stress, especially when one is a teenager still trying to find his place in the world and finding out what to do with his life. The reasons may be upcoming exams, homework, new school, taking on a new responsibility school is a huge part of teenager's life and studying may often cause stress. Another thing that causes a lot of stress in the life of young is having bad relations

The disorder of addiction involves the progression of acute drug use to the development of drug-seeking behavior, the vulnerability to relapse, and the decreased, slowed ability to respond to naturally rewarding stimuli. Video game addiction Video game addiction, or more broadly video game overuse, is excessive or compulsive use of computer and video games that interferes with daily life. Instances have been reported in which users play compulsively, isolating themselves from, or from other forms of, social contact and focusing almost entirely on in-game achievements rather than broader life events. Fast food

There is no such thing as a "bad" food. All foods can fit into a healthy meal plan. It's true that fast food is usually high in fat, calories, cholesterol and sodium, but eating fast food every once in a while is not going to cause you problems. If you eat too much fast food over a long period of time, though, it can lead to health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, and obesity. Is some fast food healthier than others? Many fast food chains are revamping their menus to respond to customers comments. For example, some chains no longer serve foods with trans fat, and many have menu items that contain fruits and vegetables. If you are having fast food more than once a week, try to make healthier choices. Where can I find nutrition facts about fast food? Most fast food and restaurant chains post their nutrition information online. Use a search engine to find the companies web page. There is usually a link to the nutrition section

One example: Right mode: ,,Peter , come brush your teeths!" Wrong mode: ,,Hey you, come brush your teeths!" Parents should keep their instructions clear and understandable. For example, your child will respond better if you tell them what you want them to do, rather than what you want them to stop doing. Try, ,,Kaido, put your shoes on the rack," rather tan ,,Do not put your shoes on the floor." Every cildren needs some time for answering, not every brain is fast thinking. This helps you realise that the person reading your letter is a real human being with feelings, trying to do their job to the best of their abilities. Your letter should encourage them to respond positively and helpfully to the complaint. No matter how mad you feel, aggression and confrontation does not encourage a helpful reaction to complaints. Good complaints letters with the above features tend to produce better outcomes: - Concise letters can be understood quickly. - Authoritative letters - letters that are well written and professionally presented - have more credibility and are taken more seriously.

Sheep senses and social cognition

Sheep senses and social cognition Sheep generally are held in low regard as far as cognition and social skills are concerned. However there is now interesting evidence from studies of their behaviour and brain function that they have highly sophisticated social and emotional recognition skills using faces, voices and smell. They are able to recognize and remember many diferent sheep and humans for several years or more and appear to have some capacity for forming mental images of the faces of absent individuals. The precence of such social cognition abilities in this species means that we must pay careful attention to welfare factors such as the composition and stability of their social environment as well as the nature of our own interactions with them. To many humans sheep are regarded as being as close to an automaton and amindless animal species as can be imagined and any serious consideration of their cognitive, social and genera...

Lear is used to enjoying absolute power and to being flattered, and he does not respond well to being contradicted or challenged. At the beginning of the play, his values are notably hollow—he prioritizes the appearance of love over actual devotion and wishes to maintain the power of a king while unburdening himself of the responsibility. Nevertheless, he inspires loyalty in subjects such as Gloucester, Kent, Cordelia, and Edgar, all of whom risk their lives for him. Read an in-depth analysis of King Lear.

Complex social behaviour in humans: human social interactions are more subtle and flexible than those of animals. receptors and AP-1 transcription factor, can modulate their transcriptional activity. Retinoic Acid receptors (RARs) are nuclear receptors related to the steroid and thyroid hormone Receptors, a family of proteins that function as ligand-dependent transcription factors. Several loci encoding RAR isoforms have been identified in mammals - RAR- alpha, -beta and gamma - as well as novel nuclear receptors known as RXR (Retinoid X receptor), which are distantly related to RARs and respond to high concentrations of RA. The RARs show spatially restricted distribution patterns during embryogenesis, which have led to speculation on a variety of roles for RA in developmental processes. As with other enhancer-binding proteins, nuclear receptors act as transcription factors by binding to specific DNA recognition sequences generally located upstream of responsive genes. Although RARs can activate gene expression through binding to thyroid hormone

This is the reason that exponentially increasing the brightness of visual stimuli is perceived by humans as a smooth (linear) increase, rather than an exponential increase. This has survival value. Generally it is important for the organisms to respond to stimuli in a wide range of levels, from very low levels, to very high levels, while the accuracy of the estimation of differences at high levels of stimulus is much less important for survival. http://www.bact.wisc.edu/Microtextbook/modules.php? op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=10&page=1 (LOE LÄBI!!!) 10. Report: The Free Rider Problem

within one's power. But apart from this distinction, we can differentiate between harmless free riding and the worthless free riding. The free rider wants anything he can get for free and will think nothing of it if he can get away with it. 5 Free riders take advantage of public goods without having to contribute to them. For example, if society decides to encourage people to use less of a product and many people actually respond to this call, the product's market will improve. Although the free rider may continue using this product, he will benefit. This creates a tremendous problem for activists who attempt to start a movement to improve the environment. Many people, seeing no incentive to join personally in the movement, just continue behaving the way they did before and yet reap the benefits of other people's work. When everyone acts as a free rider, no benefit at all will come from the proposed action.

People tend to rush into unwise concessions if they are faced with a deadline. Preparation skills- it is rarely possible to be over-prepared. Defining objectives- preparation includes writing down measurable objectives for the N. Objectives must be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely. Setting priorities- some objectives are always more important, both for you and the other party. Summarize, restate ideas. Never interrupt. Four stages: Prepare, Discuss, Propose and respond, Close 4 Define your boundaries: the best possible outcome to be desired to the worst result you could accept. Concessions- not a sign of weakness but a signal that you are looking hard for a compromise to suit both parties. The role of the minute-taker: they must be able to quote what has been discussed and agreed.

Pay-for performance: necessary or unsuitable way to increase efficiency in the public sector

Differences and disagreements may cause more harm than pay-for performance can bring. And it may ruin the working culture for a long time period. It has been said that competition in public sector is not healthy. One big problem with pay-for performance is the evaluation. In public sector there are many different tasks some that are measurable and others not that easily measurable. This aspect makes it hard to tell which employee performs better than the other. So it may affect how servants respond to this system. The other part is the task itself- it needs very precise system under what to analyze and evaluate the performance. This needs a very good preparation for implementing pay-for performance. Another limitation that goes with pay-for performance is that public sector is fundamentally different from private sector and tools that work well in private sector may not work so well in public one. For example public sector’s budget unlike private sector

Using Blogs as a Platform in the TEFL

(Matheson, 2004, p. 449). According to Shih-Hsien Yang (2009) `blogs utilize a simple interface to make it easy for any user to construct, without having to understand HTML or web scripting' (p.13). Thus, it turns out that anyone who can create a basic Microsoft Word document can create and maintain a blog. In addition, users can even add pictures or audio files to enhance their blog's attractiveness. Furthermore, a blog is interactive in the sense that readers can respond with comments in just a few steps. BLOGGING FOR LEARNING Furthermore, there have been increasing numbers of people using blogs in education (Godwin-Jones, 2003). In terms of language teaching and learning, `language learners could use a personal blog linked to a course as an electronic portfolio, showing development over time' (Godwin-Jones, 2003, p. 13). Hence, blogs could be used to monitor and assess students' work as

These guarantees freed for Iraq hard cash to continue buying and developing the weapons of mass destruction. 1990s Between July 18 and August 1 the Bush Administration approved $4.8 million in advanced technology sales to Iraq's weapons ministry and to weapons labs that were known to have worked on biological, chemical and nuclear weapons. On 2 nd August 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait despite warnings from the US and Egypt, it conquered and annexed Kuwait. Iraq did not respond to US, to Arabian and to UN warnings to withdraw from Kuwait. The United Nation's allies led by the USA launched operation Desert Storm in February 1991, successfully reversing the invasion of Kuwait. However, the US did not try to remove Saddam Hussein from power and allowed him to suppress Kurdish and Shi'a revolts. According to former U.S. intelligence officials, the CIA orchestrated a bomb and sabotage campaign between 1992 and 1995 in Iraq via one of the insurgent organizations,

Book Analog Interfacing to Embedded Microprocessors

In addition, the conversion speed varies with the input voltage. If the voltage in this example were .18v, the conversion would take only half as many clocks as the .37v example. The maximum clock speed of a tracking ADC depends on the propagation delay of the DAC and the comparator. After every clock, the counter output has to propagate through the DAC and appear at the output. The compara- tor then takes some amount of time to respond to the change in DAC voltage, producing a new up/down control input to the counter. Tracking ADCs are not commonly available; in looking at the parts avail- able from Analog Devices, Maxim, and Burr-Brown (all three are manufac- turers of ADC components), not one tracking ADC is shown. This only makes sense: a successive approximation ADC with the same number of bits is faster. However, there is one case where a tracking ADC can be useful. If the input

fulfillment and logistics being implemented correctly. If the correct quantity is not ordered and delivered at the requested time, production will be halted, but having an effective supply chain management system in place will ensure that production can always run smoothly without delays due to ordering and transportation. 4. Increase in Revenue & profit: Ensuring no sales is lost because shelves are empty. Managing the supply chain improves a company flexibility to respond to unforeseen changes in demand and supply. Because of this, a company has the ability to produce goods at lower prices and distribute them to consumers quicker then companies without supply chain management thus increasing the overall profit. 5. Reduction in Costs: Keeping the cost of purchased parts and products at acceptable levels. Supply chain management reduces costs by increasing inventory turnover on the shop floor and in the warehouse controlling the quality of goods thus

Inglise keele kodulugemine teemal: Mass Media

expect the media to bring about major or rapid changes in public attitudes. The media is best used to provide factual information in a steady, credible manner, and that knowledge over time helps to change people's attitudes. NGOs often use the media without precise goals or targets. Often people send press releases or hold press conferences without having sufficiently `newsy' information to give the press, and this results in poor coverage, or even in situations where some journalists do not respond the next time they are approached by the same NGO. It is important to have a clear, realistic aim when you use the mass media, such as: specific facts to be disseminated, a project announced, an appeal for money or support, introducing a new person or activity, etc. If you do not have newsworthy information, you should not try to use the media to spread your message via free news coverage, but instead use paid advertising or other channels of communication.
