Cities
Muckanaghederdauhaulia - This is probably the longest place name in Ireland . it consists of 22 letters
There is also a village in Ireland called '' Inch village'' outside the village there is a sign ''Inch 1 mile''
i couldn't find a picture of it from the internet so i created a sign myself to make it more clear , so that can be quite confusing for a foreigner
The capital city , Dublin was founded by the Vikings in 841
Worth to mention
The Titanic was built in Harland and Wolff yards in Belfast , which is nowadays part of the Northern Ireland , but back then in 1909 - 1912 (which is the time when Titanic was built ) it was still part of the Ireland. So the worlds most famous ship was built in Ireland.
Also Guinness beer originated in Arthur Guinness' brewery at St. James's Gate in Dublin. Nowadays it is one of the most successful beer brands in the world, being exported worldwide.
sports :
First I'm going to talk about
Gaelic football so , teams of 15 players, kick or hand pass a ball around a grass pitch towards each others goals to either score a point over the bar or goal . The ball used in Gaelic football is round , slightly smaller than a soccer ball. The action is fast and furious, and play is rough.
another famous field sport is
hurling - It's played on a large field with a curved wooden stick (or "Hurley"), and with a leather ball, so its pretty much like a hockey on a field , mission is to score the ball between the opponents goalposts. It can be described as one of the fastest and most skilful field games in the world and it's not for the faint of heart. Bodies bang, the ball is as hard as a baseball , and the sticks are made of solid ash.
flag and religion
The Irish tricolor flag was created in 1848, it was designed to reflect the country 's political realities.
Different sources tell different stories but here are 2 of them .
Orange stands for Irish Protestants, green for Irish Catholics and the white stripe for the hope that peace might eventually be reached between them.
Another story tells that the green stands for the ancient Irish ancestry , orange stands for the new elements that joined them later in the history and white symbolizes the union of all in brotherhood and common nationality.
The statistics say that about 90 % of the Republic 's populace is Roman Catholic , 3% identify themselves as Protestants, and the remainder claim no religious beliefs, or belong to the small communities of believers such as Muslims , Jews and Jehovah's Witnesses
The St. Paul's cathedral was dedicated to St. Patrick , the patron saint of Ireland.
natural resources
The primary Natural resources of Ireland, include natural gas, petroleum , peat( turvas ), copper , lead (plii), dolomite, limestone ( lubjakivi ), gypsum, silver and some zinc
Ireland has virtually no coal deposits, even though it’s just 60 miles from Wales , one of the world’s richest coal fields.
On the left picture you can see a limestone pavement situated in the west coast of Ireland. and on the right picture you can see a gypsum mine.
Presidents
There have been 8 presidents in Ireland. Mary Therese Winifred Robinson was the first female president of Ireland and she passed the position to Mary Patricia McAleese who is the current president of Ireland. So she is Ireland's second female president and the world's first woman to succeed another woman as an elected head of state.
food and drinks
The most famous Irish drink is Guinness beer which i already mentioned before.
Less known is that Irish also make very good coffee . Coffee is not served in a small cup as in England but in a normal cup ,
Black coffee is poured into the mug;
Whiskey and at least one teaspoon of sugar is stirred in until fully dissolved.
Thick cream is carefully poured over the back of a spoon initially(alguses) held just above the surface of the coffee and gradually raised a little . The layer of cream will float on the coffee without mixing. The coffee is drunk through the layer of cream.
Irish also like to make a lot of different cup cakes and buns(kukkel).
Irish are really proud about their soda bread also , which doesn’t look so tempting at all and many tourist have said its just not a bread , its a dark soda tasting bread , on which you definitely have to put something on to eat it.
Fauna
Only 26 land mammal species are native to Ireland, because it was isolated from Europe by rising sea levels after the Ice Age.
Some species, such as the red fox, hedgehog, and badger are very common, whereas others, like the Irish hare, red deer and pine marten (mets nugis) are less common.
About 400 species of birds have been recorded in Ireland. Many of these are migratory(ränd lind), including the Barn Swallow. Most of Ireland's bird species come from Iceland , Greenland and Africa .
There are no snakes in Ireland and there is only 1 species of reptiles is native to the country.
Music and dance
There are many famous musicians and bands from Ireland, for example U2 and the Cranberries
The Irish tradition of folk music and dance is also widely known.
Irish performance dancing is traditionally referred to as step dance
Irish social dancing can be divided further into céilí and set dancing. Irish set and céilí dances are usually danced by sets of couples, often in squares of four couples. Irish social dance is a living tradition, and variations in particular dances are found across the Irish dance community

Marriage and Family People usually marry in their early to mid-20s. Most weddings are performed in a church, but a minority are also performed in a registry office. After marriage, many people in rural areas stay close to their family's home and visit frequently. Many couples, particularly in the cities, live together before or instead of marriage. Typically, the bonds between siblings in an Irish family are especially strong. In rural areas, extended families often live near one another, and family members who have moved to Dublin or overseas in search of work often return for Christmas and other family

shine for a bit more again. Energy The vast majority ( enamus ) of Irish energy needs are met by fossil fuels. About 98% of Ireland's final energy demand is produced by burning coal, petroleum, peat, or natural gas. This over reliance on fossil fuels ( see liigne toetumine sisseostetavatele kütustele )-particularly oil - (eriti õli) has left Ireland vulnerable to international price fluctuations as it imports all of its oil needs. (on jätnud iirimaa haavatavaks tänu rahvusvahelistele hindande muutumisele ) There have been recent efforts in Ireland to use renewable energy such as wind energy with large wind farms being constructed in coastal counties such as Donegal, Mayo and Antrim. Flora Because of Irelands mild climate , many tropic species such as palm trees grow in Ireland. Much of the land is now covered with pasture(karjamaa) and there are many species of wild-flowers
