Carl Lewis

He saw the Olympic games of 1968 on TV and could admire Bob Beamon: he was so impressed that after the jump of 8,90 m he went out with a friend to take the length of a limousine in order to realize how far Bob flied! But for the moment Carl was really thin, so thin that the doctor suggested to make him do sports. His education, beyond studies, embraced a lot of fields. He learnt to play musical instruments, to dance, to sing and applied himself to a large variety of sports: football, soccer (he played with his brother Cleveland as a forward!), diving and, obviously, athletics. As he himself tells, he wasn't good at sport. A lot of boys did better at the same age and he was regularly beaten by his sister Carol in the track his parents constructed for them around the garden of their house! Amazingly his father was a friend of Jesse Owens and so Carl grew up under the legend of this man who won four gold medals in the Olympic games of Berlin 1936. Carl begun with...

Canada

Lacrosse, with First Nations origins, is Canada's oldest sport and official summer sport (see below), one of the fastest growing sports in all of North America. Conversely, Association Football (soccer), although widely played by school-aged Canadians and those in the immigrant community, has never become popular enough as a spectator sport for an entirely local professional league to be maintained in the country, although Canada participates in the United Soccer Leagues with several teams, and will join Major League Soccer in 2007 with an expansion team in Toronto. Canadian football is Canada's second favourite spectator sport, and is followed by 19% of the country. Its popularity is on the rise since the turn of the century, especially in Southern Ontario, where attendance at football games has doubled in the past five years. The Grey Cup is Canada's biggest single sporting event, and is watched by a significant portion of the country...

Health

Maybe your passion is karate, or kickball, or dancing. Find ways to be active every day. You might think of going to your doctor as something you do only when you're sick or maybe once a year for a checkup, but your body works hard when you run fast, kick, throw, swim, and tumble. That's why a sports physical is important, especially when you're just starting to swim competitively, do gymnastics, or play a team sport, such as soccer , baseball, football, or basketball. 10. Conclusion There is nothing more important than good health, money can't buy it. No-one can think of being healthy as doing all the things you don't like that is not right! Staying healthy could be fun and good too, if you only know how to. 11. Used materials "A-Z Encyclopedia" The Kingfisher Materials on sheets...

The United States of America

College football and basketball also attract large audiences. Football is now by several measures the most popular spectator sport in the United States. Boxing and horse racing were once the most watched individual sports, but they have been eclipsed by golf and auto racing. Soccer , though not a leading professional sport in the country, is played widely at the youth and amateur levels. Tennis and many outdoor sports are also popular. While most major U.S. sports have evolved out of European practices, basketball, skateboarding, and snowboarding are American inventions. Eight Olympic Games have taken place in the United States. Ice hockey, referred to as simply hockey in the country, is Canada's official winter sport and continues to be its most popular spectator sport and one in which teams representing the country have had the most success. Lacrosse, a sport with First Nations origins, is Canada's oldest sport and official summer sport. Association football, known in Canada as soccer in both English and French, has overtaken hockey as the sport with the most registered players in Canada, but has never enjoyed sustained popularity as a major professional spectator sport, although there are several Canadian teams in the United Soccer Leagues. 10. Sports Sports in the United States, as in other countries, are an important part of the national culture. However, the sporting culture of the U.S. is different from that of many other countries, especially those in Europe. The most popular sports are American football, baseball, basketball, ice hockey and soccer . American football (known simply as "football" in the U.S) attracts more television viewers than baseball; however, National Football League teams play only 16 regular-season games each year, so baseball is the runaway leader in ticket sales. The 32-team National Football League (NFL) is the most popular and only major professional American football league. Its championship game, the Super Bowl, is watched by nearly half of US television households....

Irish National Costums

Popular sports include the two national pastimes: Gaelic football and hurling, both strictly amateur sports. The women's version of hurling is called camogie. Hurling, a fast and skillful game, is played on a soccer -type field with wooden sticks and a small leather ball. Gaelic football is played with a round ball; its rules are similar to soccer, but players can touch the ball with their hands, although they cannot pick it up from the ground. The ball is punched, not thrown, and it can be kicked. Scoring is done in a soccer-type net, but, as in hurling, points can also be made for going over the top of the goal. Gaelic football is the precursor of Australian Rules football; the two sports are similar enough that Irish and Australian teams sometimes play each other with a set of compromise rules...

Healthy Life

I just do not have time for that and I do not have a mind to do workout sometimes. My way to workout is to play basketball, 90 minutes PE classes once a week and walk with my dog. In summers, I usually watch soccer on television and sometimes play basketball. My mother, father and sister are completely opposites of me. My sister practices swimming and soccer three times a week, including she rides with a bike. My mother bought herself a fitness machine; she uses it twice a week. My father also goes to fitness centre, rides with a bike and runs three times a week. In our family there is only me, who workout with my brain instead to do physical exercises. In addition, my grandparents are not capable to workout; they are too old for that as they say. In my family, many people do different activities...

Jalgpall

) reeglid (1863).
