2. a) The United Nations was thought to be more successful because ( unlike in the League of Nations ) all of the largest nations joined and they had armed force at its disposal. All the winning and neutral countries were members and all of them could be called on to provide troops to deal with aggression. b) The Security council was important because they met regulary and dealt with crises. The original members were Britain, the USA , the USSR, France and China, because they were the five victors in the II World War. The other six seats were given to states in rotation. The five victors also have extra power so they can cancel (veto) the UN's decisions ( any decision has to be passed by at least seven members and five of them have to be the so called'' Big Five''). I think it was allowed because those five were the major powers of the world on what the peace of the world depended .

On 2 February 1920, the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed with Soviet Russia, wherein Russia acknowledged the independence of the Estonian Republic. Tallinn became the capital of an independent Estonia. After World War II started, Estonia was occupied by the Soviet Union (USSR) in 1940, and later occupied by Nazi Germany from 1941–44. After Nazi retreat in 1944, it was occupied by the USSR again. After annexation into the Soviet Union, Tallinn became the capital of the Estonian SSR. How far can we go being tolerant?

It is caused by the fact that comparing to the previous centuries people have changed more self-centered and envious, forgetting others around. Tolerance as a characteristic feature is an acknowledged ideal in today`s modern society. The democratic state is based on tolerance. Over the last few years the attitude against ethnic monorities has been a frequently discussed topic in Estonia. Russians, who settled in Estonia during the USSR occupation are causing economical, racial and religious conflicts between them and Estonians. Although Estonians don't have any particular reason why we don't accept Russians as equals, we are used to just unaccept them. Religous percecution is a serious side of intolerance. Jew-baiting has been the bitterest case in history. Their percecution was caused by their antichristian beliefs and holding on to their own religion. Its culmination came during the World War II,

Soviet forces reconquered Estonia in the autumn of 1944 after fierce battles in the northeast of the country on the Narva river and on the Tannenberg Line. Tens of thousands of people chose to eighter retreat together with the Germans or flee to Finland or Sweden, becoming war refugees and later, expatriates. The United States, United Kingdom and the majority of other western democracies considered the annexation of Estonia by USSR illegal. They retained diplomatic relations with the representatives of the independent Respublic of Estonia, never recognized Estonia as a legal constituent part of Soviet Union. Estonia's return to independence became possible as the Soviet Union ran into economic dufficulties as a consequence of the Cold War and began to disintegrate. As te situation evolved, a movement for more Estonian selfgovernance started.

Following elections in July, Estonia was incorporated into the USSR as a constituent republic. Over 60,000 persons were killed or deported during the occupation's first year. Estonian irregulars fought Soviet troops in June 1941 as part of the German invasion, and their support of the Nazis continued through 1944. As a result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, Estonia was occupied by the Soviet Union during WW II, annexing it to the Soviet Union. However, in 1941, the Germans defeated the Soviet Army and occupied Estonia until 1944. Although the country tried to restore its independence, it was incorporated as a Republic of the USSR. On August 23. 1989, Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians joined their hands to form a 530 km long Baltic Chain connecting the three Baltic capitals. The independence was restored on August 20, 1991. matters (especially cosmonautics), gave Russian a worldwide prestige, especially during the mid-20th century. During the Soviet period, the policy toward the languages of the various other ethnic groups fluctuated in practice. Though each of the constituent republics had its own official language, the unifying role and superior status was reserved for Russian, although it was declared the official language only in 1990. Following the break-up of the USSR in 1991, several of the newly independent states have encouraged their native languages, which has partly reversed the privileged status of Russian, though its role as the language of post-Soviet national discourse throughout the region has continued. The Russian language in the world is reduced due to the decrease in the number of Russians in the world and diminution of the total population in Russia (where Russian is an official language)

In 1985-86, sunflower seed was the third largest source of vegetable oil worldwide, following soybean and palm. The growth of sunflower as an oilseed crop has rivaled that of soybean, with both increasing production over 6-fold since the 1930s. Sunflower accounts for about 14% of the world production of seed oils (6.9 million metric tons in 1985-86) and about 7% of the oilcake and meal produced from oilseeds. Europe and the USSR produce over 60% of the world's sunflowers. The oil accounts for 80% of the value of the sunflower crop, as contrasted with soybean which derives most of its value from the meal. Sunflower oil is generally considered a premium oil because of its light color, high level of unsaturated fatty acids and lack of linolenic acid, bland flavor and high smoke points. The primary fatty acids in the oil are oleic and linoleic (typically 90% unsaturated fatty acids), with the remainder consisting

English as a Global Language

The pressure to adopt a single lingua franca, to facilitate communication in such contexts, is considerable. The scale and recency of the development has to be appreciated. In 1945, the United Nations began life with 51 member states. By 1956 this had risen to 80 members. But the independence movements which began at that time led to a massive increase in the number of new nations during the next decade, and this process continued steadily into the 1990s, following the collapse of the USSR. There were 190 member states in 2002 – nearly four times as many as there were fifty years ago. And the trend may not yet be over, given the growth of so many regional nationalistic movements worldwide. [3, p. 14] 1.4 Criticism of a Global Language Author of the book “English as a Global Language” David Crystal approves that it is impossible to make confident predictions about the emergence of a global language, because

tasakaal pole alati paigas ega ühesugune. 1648 -1914 a - klassikaline jõudude tasakaalu ajajärk, tasakaalustavaks jõuks peamiselt Suurbritannia, hiljem on jõudude tasakaalu poliitika olnud vähem võimalik, tänu tugevate ideoloogiate esilekerkimisele, mis välistasid alliansside tekke. Peale teist maailmasõda pole klassikaline jõudude tasakaalu poliitika enam võimalik. Paljud toovad siiski esile bipolaarset maailma (USA-USSR), kus mõlemad pooled kontrollisid teise soovi saada hegemooniks.

Just before the outbreak of World War II in a secret protocol of the non- aggression pact1 entered into by Nazi Germany and the USSR, the Baltic states had been placed in the sphere of influence of the Soviet Union. Almost immediately after the signing of the pact, the Soviet government forced upon Estonia a treaty of mutual assistance and the provision for Soviet military bases. 2 In June 1940 the Soviet government accused the Estonian government of not adhering to the treaty and of hostile actions, and demanded the formation of a new government acceptable to them.

Income received as consideration for goods/services/works provided to a resident is mostly WHT exempt. Different WHT rates apply to certain types of non-resident's income (e.g., freight, insurance premiums paid abroad and advertising fees). Double Taxation Treaties Ukraine has a moderately well-developed network of effective double taxation treaties. Some of the treaties were concluded in the times of the USSR and remain effective for Ukraine (by virtue of state succession rules). One of them is the Ukraine-Cyprus double taxation treaty, which is popular with foreign investors in Ukraine. Provided that a non-resident income recipient is a beneficial owner of the Ukraine-sourced income and the relevant confirmation of its tax residency is provided to the person making 41

Speaking of foreign linguists it is the French Ch. Bally and J. Marouseau who have in th 20 century made a definite contribution, this was due to old tradition of interest in style in France. The classical words of classic stylistics are those by German scholars Ph. Aronstein and W. Deutschbein. In the 50s and 60s there was a rapid growth of interest in stylistics. Various conferences were held (e.g. USA 1958, GDR 1959, USSR 1961, 1963, etc.). The methods of structural linguistics were most popular in 70s and 80s. Present day stylistic studies have gradually taken a more systematic course. Increasing interest is apparent in a quantitative aspect. Thus the statistical word frequently, also computers have given stylistics a more exact basis. Computer assisted stylistic analysis seems quite promising (e.g. the study of

During this time centuries believes kept in our mentality about creation of the world and a life after death force the person to doubt and the theory of atheism. For the reason of the uncertainty people often make various religious and pagan rituals, in this case funeral ceremonies, so to say just in case or therefore how did their grandmothers and grandfathers. During that time the rituality of the secular funeral had time to become stronger which has developed in the USSR. Many people do not trust owing to religious practices and do not see a sense in them. For the reason, the modern youth gives the preference so-called mixed, in this context it is possible to tell a "democratic" kind of funeral where are combined both church, and secular rituals and customs. During the work it has been revealed that Estonians and Russians in Estonia concern cremation differently. Russian disapproves of such kind funeral more rather than Estonians and would

The eighteenth-century French naturalist the Comte de Buffon quoted the 16th/17th Century Italian traveller Pietro della Valle: ‘In Europe there is a species of cats which properly belong to the province of Chorazan the USSR and Afghanistan. Their beauty consists in the colour of their hair, which is grey, and uniformly the same over the whole body, except that it is darker on the back and head, and clearer on the breast and belly, where it approaches to whiteness. Besides, the hair is fine, shining, soft as silk, and so long, that, though not frizzled, it forms ringlets in some parts, and particularly under the throat. The most beautiful part of the body
