The United States of America

Today it is the only superpower left in the world. Tensions between American colonials and the British during the revolutionary period of the 1760s and early 1770s led to the American Revolutionary War. On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress, convening in Philadelphia, established a Continental Army under the command of George Washington. Proclaiming that "all men are created equal" and endowed with "certain unalienable Rights," the Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, drafted largely by Thomas Jefferson, on July 4, 1776. This meant war. Britain lost the war and lost America. It recognized the United States as a separate country in 1783. The population of the USA is about 270 million people. They are called Americans. Most of the people live in towns. In America there are the representatives of all the races and national groups of the world. There are about 24 million Negroes in the country and over 800,000 Indians. Many of the inhabitants

Canada - history and provinces.

In September 1759, the British attacked the French on the Plains of Abraham and won. The following spring they also conquered Montreal. The British renamed the new French-speaking region Quebec. They allowed the French to keep their Roman Catholic religion, civil law system and language, so that they would not try to break away from Britain. From 1775 to 1784, many British came to the former New France area from south. The people in American colonies were fighting for independence and those people who fled north were the one who wanted to remain loyal to Britain (United Empire Loyalists). Britain created two new colonies: New Brunswick and Upper Canada. New Brunswick was created in 1784. Upper Canada became part of Quebec in 1791. Upper Canada was the English-speaking colony and Lower Canada was the French-speaking colony. They were reunited in 1841, called Canada West and Canada East and the capital of them was Montreal. Essey: How does the United States influence Estonia

The United States of America with it's global economic and political superpower is one of the most influential countries in the world and therefore it’s influence can also be felt in Estonia. Fluctuations in Estonia’s status as an independent country have had significant impact on the amount of influence from other countries, whether it is the language, eating habits or lifestyle. But how has United States influenced Estonia after we gained our independence? Estonia is not economically dependent on the United States as they are not one of our most important trading partners, but as the economics of the United States has a great influence on the world economy, they can still indirectly have an influence on Estonian economy. In Estonian politics the influence of the United States can be seen the most in relations with NATO. Estonian national security is built up on being a member of NATO and depending on it's

his unrequited love for Brett cause him. However, though Jake does perceive the problems in his life, he seems either unwilling or unable to remedy them. Though he understands the dilemma of the Lost Generation, he remains trapped within it. Lady Brett Ashley Brett is a strong, largely independent woman. She exerts great power over the men around her, as her beauty and charisma seem to charm everyone she meets. Moreover, she refuses to commit to any one man, preferring ultimate independence. However, her independence does not make her happy. She frequently complains to Jake about how miserable she is--her life, she claims, is aimless and unsatisfying. Her wandering from relationship to relationship parallels Jake and his friends' wandering from bar to bar. Although she will not commit to any one man, she seems uncomfortable being by herself. As Jake remarks, "She can't go anywhere alone." Indeed, there are several misogynist strains in Hemingway's representation of Brett

Women writer's influence on our society

She is really rebellious and is mostly known for her punk poetry. Diana Leesalu writes youth novels and I chose her because I have read her books and these are really well written. Ketlin Priilinn writes for children, teenagers and adults also. I think it's a big thing if you are able to write for people who are from so different age categories. Women writers have had a great influence on our society, probably bigger that we could ever imagine. They had a big role in getting our independence and they always reminded us to keep fighting, no matter what. They brought us new ways to see and describe nature and everything around us. Also they started using new words and some of these are still in use. They left behind great works to understand the though times. I know that we should always watch for the greater times, but it's also important to know that we have had harder times and not to forget that our free country has come through struggles. And we should never take it for granted

and production possibilities. engineering products and equipment manufactured in Estonia range from cables, mobile phones and computers to security equipment for cars, laboratory equipment, different hoists and other equipment for different industries. The economic changes of the 1990s had an especially severe effect on the chemical industry as many of the enterprises were oriented to the Soviet military industry and their products became unnecessary after Estonia regained its independence. In the economic chaos that ruled in Russia, old contacts with Russian enterprises were lost. Several large- scale enterprises of the chemical industry are located in the industrial area of the North- Eastern Estonia and have by now been largely restored, having found new partners and markets as well as new products. The largest factories include Nitrofert, Viru Keemia and Velsicol in Kohtla-Järve and Silmet in Sillamäe.

Essay about NewZealand and Australia

In my essay I will describe the most characteristic features of the Maori people and the aborigines. I will divide the essay in 3 parts the Maori people, the aborigines and their comparison. Maori are the host people of New Zealand. Their name is derived from Ma-Uri which means the children of heaven. The arrival of the Maori people to New Zealand is considered to be somewhat of a mystery. It is known that first Polynesians arrived to New Zealand about 1000 years ago, when navigator Kupe discovered the land in 950 AD. He named it Aotearoa The Land of the Long White Cloud. Although these facts can be debatable, I will focus my attention on this interpretation of Maori history. After the Maori arrived to New Zealand, they started to develop into tribes and sub tribes, this tribal system is still in use. Their culture had almost no influence from the rest of the world. They evolved a culture endorsed by agriculture and hunting. Of cour...

hunger and wars. Sweden finally managed to take control of the whole of Estonia in 1629. Their rule ended after the Northern War in 1710 when Estonia was joined to the Russian Empire. Life changed for the better thanks to the opening of a railway line from St. Petersburg to Tallinn in 1870. Tallinn grew into a major port and an industrial centre, with huge shipyards. Interest in culture grew and Estonians became conscious of their national identity, dreams of independence gained ground. On 24 February 1918 Estonia was declared an independent country and Tallinn became the capital of the Republic of Estonia. During World War II Estonia was occupied by both German and Russian invaders and Tallinn suffered heavily. The bombing of the city by the Soviet air force on 9 March 1944 left over 20,000 people homeless. During the Russian occupation which followed attempts were made to Russify the local people. Estonia re-established its independence on 20 August 1991.

In the beginning of 1990s, the Soviet Union began to fall apart. Its own republics began to claim independence. When Yeltsin was elected as a chairman of the Parliament he took lead in the independence movements. In 1991 Gorbachev resigned and Yeltsin won the presidential elections. Kanada ajalugu, regioonid ja kliima

Early History The first inhabitants of Canada were native Indian people who were called as Inuits. They are believed to be in Canada since about 10000 BC. The Inuits came to Canada from Asia crossing the Bering land bridge. The earliest discoveries in Canada were made by the Vikings. In AD 985 Vikings sailing from Iceland to Greenland were blown westward off their course and the Vikings sighted the coast of Labrador peninsula. The report of forested areas encouraged further exploration because the colonies in Greenland which belonged to the Vikings lacked lumber. In AD 1000 Leif Ericson became the first European to land in North America. The first colony was established what was described as Vinland by the Vikings. It was located on the northernmost tip of todays Newfoundland. There has also been a theory that the Vikings penetrated Hudson Bay and reached the Great Lakes region but recent investigations have...

Film Studies - The Black Dahlia

As well as in this sequence, we also see guns in almost every other Film Noir. The Dialogue replicates to the corruption, to violence. Bucky words `` I have been pointing my gun at a lot of people this week. I haven't had the chance to shoot anybody yet. What do you think?`` have more than just clear connection to the guns and the fact that he is an anti- hero. Smoking is also one of the Noir codes. The detail that the woman smokes is also expressing the independence of woman, femme fatale. The visual style in Film Noir is used to replicate the nature of the world in which the films are set. Particularly in the closing sequence, there are many shadows, scene is set at night, darkness is all over the action. By these conventions, the audience can feel the dissorientation, confusion as the characters does. Madeline's mother is in the shadows all the time in the closing sequence. She is mad, confused, we could even say she IS dark,

After Queen Elizabeth I defeated the Irish army in the battle of Kinsale in 1601, a large number of Protestants came to Ireland, settling down mostly in the northern part of the island. Conflicts between the Protestant settlers and the Irish Catholics arose. The Act of Union in 1801 made England and Ireland one country with one parliament in London. During the 19th century, more and more people in Ireland wanted to regain its independence. In 1916 a group of Irish Nationalists, with their leader Patrick Pearse, declared Ireland a free country. This was followed by a battle in which Pearse was killed. In 1918, his men joined a group called Sinn Féin, which became the IRA – the Irish Republican Army. In 1919 and 1920 there were many conflicts between the two sides. In 1921 the northern and southern part separated, the latter became the Irish Free State

Great Britain

Most of England, Scotland, and Wales are on the island of Great Britain, as are their respective capital cities: London, Edinburgh, and Cardiff. The Kingdom of Great Britain resulted from the political union of the kingdoms of England and Scotland with the Acts of Union 1707 on 1 May 1707 under Queen Anne. In 1801, under a new Act of Union, this kingdom merged with the Kingdom of Ireland to create the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. After the Irish War of Independence most of Ireland seceded from the Union, which then became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The relatively limited variety of fauna and flora on the island is due to its size and the fact that wildlife has had little time to develop since the last glacial period. The high level of urbanisation on the island has contributed to a species extinction rate that is about 100 times greater than the background species extinction rate.

Ireland report

The history of the Irish Tricolour bearing the colours green for the Catholic majority, orange for William of Orange the Protestant King (and his followers) and white for the desired peace between them, goes back to the middle of the 19th century.[11] History Ireland was mostly ice-covered and joined by land to Britain and continental Europe during the last ice age. It has been inhabited for about 9,000 years. Stone age inhabitants arrived sometime after 8000 BC. Irish Independence: The Irish Free State, Éire, Ireland The state was neutral during World War II which was known internally as The Emergency, but offered some assistance to the Allies, especially in Northern Ireland. Indeed, more than 60,000 volunteers from the Republic fought in the British armed forces [3]. In 1949, the state declared itself to be a republic and that henceforth it should be described as the Republic of Ireland. The state was plagued by poverty and emigration until the mid-1970s

usunditele vee peale tõmmata. Võiks arvata, et meid on petetud kristlusega ja kirikus käikudega ning biibliga, et see kõik oli puhas raha tegemise viis, sest just usunditega teenitakse maailmas triljoneid. Kas me ikka tahaksime oma kaugete naabritega kontakti sattuda?. Nad annavad meile juurde teadmisi

Estonia

Under Russian rule the Palace of Kadriorg was built and the park was laid out. The National Awakening in the middle of the 19th century brought rapid advances in the Estonian education system, general living conditions and culture. The national epic "Kalevipoeg" was published, theatre and music societies appeared and the 1st Song Festival was held in Tartu in 1869. Since then the Song Festivals have become a national tradition, being held every 4-5 years. This all lead to Estonia's independence on 24 February 1918. In June 1940 Estonia became a part of the Soviet Union. On 20 August 1991 the Republic of Estonia was restored without any bloodshed. CULTURE? National emblems. The Estonian blue-black-and-white national flag was originally the flag of the Estonian Students' Society, consecrated in Otepää Church in 1884. Today there is a memorial plaque on the church wall commemorating the event. The Flag Museum was opened in 1996.

Sports

Sports. Sports has a very old history. The ancient Olympic Games were the first big sports competitions. The history of the Olympic Games is linked with many myths referred to in ancient sources, but in the historic years their founder is said to be Oxylos whose descendant Ifitos later rejuvenated the Games. According to the tradition, the Olympic Games began in 776 B.C. when Ifitos made a treaty with Lycourgos the king and famous legislator of Sparta and Cleisthenes the king of Pissa. In this treaty that was the decisive event for the development of the sanctuary as a Panhellenic centre, the "sacred truce" was agreed. That is to say ceasing of fighting in all of the Freek world for as long as the Olympic Games were on. The Olympic Games were held, after the completion of four years during the month of July or August. The time between two competitions was ca...

ASPECTS OF BRITISH HISTORY

– what organization succeeded it? A. The First Colonial Empire (17th c. – 1770s) B. The Early Conquests The beginnings of England’s colonial policy are to be found in the twelfth century when the Anglo-Norman kings began their invasions of Ireland. The conquest was completed under Henry VIII who was declared King of Ireland by the Irish Parliament in 15411. Wales, whose inhabitants successfully maintained their independence throughout the Anglo-Saxon period, was conquered by Edward I in the late thirteenth century2. It was incorporated into England by Henry VIII in 1536. By the seventeenth century the Tudors had prepared England for greater achievements overseas. Colonizing Faraway Lands3 The first permanent English settlement Jamestown4, in Virginia (North America), was founded in 1607. Another successful colony was established in about

Alfred Asikainen and the Estonian Martin Klein wrestled for a record 11 hours and 40 minutes. Klein won, and "Russia" was given as his country of residence. The first chance to rectify this mistake came in 1918 when the Republic of Estonia came into being for the first time. Martin Klein was the first Estonian Olympic medal winner. Among other Estonians, the heavyweight wrestlers Georg Lurich, Aleksander Aberg and Georg Hackenschmidt were famous at the turn of the century. Before independence, Estonians were the best in the whole Russian empire in athletics (16 records out of 29), wrestling and weightlifting. Estonian sport was therefore born before the independent state. Actually, it was an important factor in our national awakening. Several great figures of national politics, among them the first president Konstantin Päts, belonged to the sports association "Kalev" (1901). Because of that it is no surprise that sportsmen have always been held in high regard in Estonia.

Concert, again in an effort to calm warring parties. Near the end of the performance, by Marley's request, Manley and his political rival, Edward Seaga, joined each other on stage and shook hands. Survival, a defiant and politically charged album, was released in 1979. Tracks such as "Zimbabwe", "Africa Unite", "Wake Up and Live", and "Survival" reflected Marley's support for the struggles of Africans. In early 1980, he was invited to perform at the April 17 celebration of Zimbabwe's Independence Day. Uprising (1980) was Bob Marley's final studio album, and is one of his most religious productions, including "Redemption Song" and "Forever Loving Jah". It was in "Redemption Song" that Marley sang the famous lyric, Confrontation, released posthumously in 1983, contained unreleased material recorded during Marley's lifetime, including the hit "Buffalo Soldier" and new mixes of singles previously only available in Jamaica. the Dutch navigator Willem Janszoon, who sighted the coast in 1606. Then Abel Tasman visited an island near Australia in 1642 and the island was named after him Tasmania. Up to that time the continent was called Terra Australis Incognita. In 1770 British sailor James Cook came to Australia and landed in Botany Bay. He declared that Australia belonged to the Great Britain and named it New South Wales. Britain had to send their convicts to the new country after loss in the American War of Independence to replace the North Atlantic colonies. In 1787 the First Fleet with eleven ships, more than 1000 convicts on board were sent to Australia with Captain Phillip. They landed in Port Jackson on January 26 th in 1788 and that day is now called Australia day. It is the biggest day of celebration in the country and in observed as a public holiday in all the states and territories of Australia. Sydney grew out from those first British penal settlements.

American Literature

America because it provided the philosophical basis of the American Revolution. The Revolution was more than just a protest against English authority; as it turned out, the American Revolution provided a blueprint for the organization of a democratic society. And while imperfectly done, for it did not address the terrible problem of slavery, the American Revolution was an enlightened concept of government whose most profound documents may have been the American Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution. To feel the full impact of the Enlightenment on America one needs only to look at the first inaugural address of Thomas Jefferson, who, along with Benjamin Franklin, is considered to be the American most touched by the ideas of the Enlightenment. Attempts to reconcile science and religion resulted in a widespread rejection of prophecy, miracle and revealed religion in preference for Deism

Fiskaalpoliitika ehk eelarvepoliitika

EESTI FISKAALPOLIITIKA MÕNINGATEST ASPEKTIDEST Kaie Kerem Tallinna Tehnikaülikool Kuna Eesti on väike avatud majandus, siis sõltub Eesti majandus väga tugevasti majanduskonjunktuuri muutustest välisturgudel. Seoses Eestis rakendatud valuutakomiteel põhineva rahasüsteemiga pole Eestis võimalik teostada aktiivset rahapoliitikat. Seetõttu on fiskaalpoliitikal täita Eesti majanduses oluline roll. Fiskaalpoliitika efektiivsuse tõstmine on eriti oluline tingimustes, kus Eesti on endale seadnud eesmärgiks ühineda Euroopa Liiduga. Valitsussektori tulud Fiskaalpoliitika järjekindlus on siirderiikide stabiilsuse ühe...

was one of the most notable incidents of a division that emerged in the abolitionist movement after the publication of Spooner's book The Unconstitutionality of Slavery in 1846. This shift in opinion, as well as some other political differences, created a rift between Douglass and Garrison. Douglass further angered Garrison by saying that the Constitution could and should be used as an instrument in the fight against slavery. With this, Douglass began to assert his independence from the Garrisonians. Garrison saw the North Star as being in competition with the National Anti-Slavery Standard and Marius Robinson's Anti-Slavery Bugle. In March 1860, Annie, Douglass' youngest daughter, died in Rochester, New York, while he was still in England. Douglass returned from England the following month, taking the route through Canada to avoid detection. By the time of the Civil War, Douglass was one of the most famous black men in the
