Essee What does being free mean?

There are a lot of kinds of freedom in the modern world. It can affect on people`s life positively as well as may cause different problems. To begin with, there are certain arguments in favour of being free. Firstly, people in developed countries have a freedom of speech. As a result, democratic policy in such regions offers a great opportunity to citizens to have their opinions heard and be considered. Moreover, some people suggest that being free mean material independence. If a man provide himself (materially), he is able to act as he wants to do it. In spite of having many advantages, being free may also be harmful for certain people. The most important disadvantage is that too much freedom in children`s upbringings could cause a big variety of problems of person`s character in the future life. For instance, that young ones, who acquit themselves ill in childhood and are not punished by parents, can connect their life with crime in after years

In addition, the Portuguese Empire was the longest-lived of the modern European colonial empires, spanning almost 600 years, from the capture of Ceuta in 1415 to the handover of Macau in 1999 and grant of sovereignty to East Timor in 2002. The empire spread throughout a vast number of territories that are now part of 53 different sovereign states. However, the country's international status was greatly reduced during the 19th century, especially following the Independence of Brazil, its largest colony. After the 1910 revolution deposed the monarchy, the democratic but unstable Portuguese First Republic was established, itself being superseded by the "Estado Novo" authoritarian regime. Democracy was restored after the Portuguese Colonia l War and the Carnation Revolution in 1974. POPULATION As of 2011, the population of Portugal was 10,562,178, of which 547,733 live in Lisbon, the

fought for control of Estonia; in 1629, Sweden won and annexed the region. Peter I of Russia conquered Estonia in 1710, and in 1721 Sweden formally recognized Russian possession of the region. Russia remained in control of Estonia until shortly after the Bolshevik revolution of 1917. At the treaty of Brest-Litovsk the following year, which brought an end to Russian involvement in World War I, Estonia was ceded. The new Soviet government at first refused to recognize Estonian independence but gave way in February 1920. The new state along with its Baltic neighbors, Lithuania and Latvia enjoyed just two decades of independent statehood before the Soviet Union took control under the 1939 Nazi-Soviet Pact. Soviet ownership lasted barely 12 months before Estonia was conquered in the German invasion of the Soviet Union. It was retaken by the Red Army in 1944, after which Estonia was constituted as one of the 15 Soviet Socialist Republics

Benefits and drawbacks of the EU

With leaving the country being so easy, many students who are looking for better opportunities abroad now have the chance to easily leave their homeland and maybe never come back. So Estonia is losing some of its valuable young people. And since the use of euro, prices have gone up a lot, and Estonians are not happy with that either. Another thing that is positive is the increase in national security. If some other country were ever to attack Estonia and threaten our independence, the attack would be considered as an attack to all the member countries. This makes us feel very safe, being a small country. Furthermore, being a small country can sometimes mean having no voice in world affairs but being a part of the EU has made the smaller countries in Europe more heard. So, in conclusion, joining the European Union has made our situation better in some ways and then again worse in others. But we all have to remember, that if we don't try out something

loyalty to the Spanish crown worked against revolution. In 1808, however, Napoleon Bonaparte put his brother Joseph on the throne in Madrid and thus called the legitimacy of the Spanish crown into serious question. Revolutionary thought throughout New Spain gained momentum as a result. On September 16, 1810, in Guanajuato, Mexico, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a criollos parish priest, gave the Grito de Dolores, the Cry of Dolores, which called for Mexican independence. In California events in Mexico were followed as closely as possible and stimulated a great deal of discussion. The Californios were definitely attracted to political concepts found in the American constitution, but were horrified by the political chaos that they saw in Mexico. After Mexican independence had been won in 1821, Californios continued to feel neglected by the Mexican government just as they had been under Spanish authority. In California

Links between Estonia and English speaking countries

Danes often combined forces when attacking larger targets. This would mean that Estonians have made frequent and regular raids to the shores of England. Unfortunately there is no written evidence about these contacts. The only possible source of information is the comparison of coins and pottery found at different excavation sites. 20th century Regular documented contacts between Estonia and English speaking countries begun after Estonia gained its independence in 1918. At that time, England with her colonies was the biggest and the strongest sea power in the world. During the First World War England dominated the high seas and the Baltic Sea. So it is quite obvious that after the Bolsheviks gained power in St. Petersburg, The English navy came to aid the newly formed government of Estonia in their war efforts against the Bolshevik invaders. The Royal Navy detachment blocked Bolshevik attempts to land troops behind Estonian lines

Tallinn Tallinn is a beautiful city in NorthEstonia. It is washed and influenced by the Gulf of Finland in the north. Tallinn has a lot on sights and I'm going to introduce some of them. Town Hall Square the square in front of Tallinn's Town Hall functioned as a marketplace for centuries, dating back to times even before the Town Hall itself was built. Through the years this served as a place of celebrations as well as executions. St. Olav's Church was the tallest church in Medieval Europe. The earliest data on St. Olav's Church come from 1267. Little is known about the building of this Gothic style church and its early years. Ghana

Ghana Ghana, country of western Africa, situated on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. Although relatively small in area and population, Ghana is one of the leading countries of Africa, partly because of its considerable natural wealth and partly because it was the first black African country south of the Sahara to achieve independence from colonial rule. In addition to being known for its lush forests, diverse animal life, and miles of sandy beaches along a picturesque coast, Ghana is also celebrated for its rich history--its habitation possibly dating from 10,000 BC--and as a fascinating repository of cultural heritage. The country takes it name from the great medieval trading empire that was located northwest of the modern-day state until its demise in the 13th century. However, James Stuart, their leader, was easily defeated and fled to Rome. His son tried to claim the British throne twice, but he was soon forced to retreat. On 16 April 1746, English army met the Jacobites in a moor at Culloden. 2000 of the Jacobites died, which ended Stuart pretensions to the crown. The British ensured British rule at the French fort at Quebec. During the reign of George III, Britain lost its American colonies and the United States was born. Britain recognised its independence in September 1783. In Britain, peasant farmers were replaced by farms, tiny strips of land were replaced by huge fields enclosed by hedges, so stray animals couldn't ruin the crops or mix with improved breeds of sheep and cattle. This agricultural revolution left large numbers of the population landless, but also led to the massive increase in agricultural production. Admiral Nelson defeated Napoleon and his troops in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where he also died

They had to fight for their lives over there because America was still unknown for them, but they survived and started establishing even more colonies. The Thirteen British colonies started a rebellion against their motherland in 1775 and proclaimed their independence in 1776 and formed a nation in 1781 called United States of America. The United States defeated British army with help of Spain and France in The American Revolutionary War (17751783). The Yelamu group of the Ohlone people resided in several small villages when a Spanish exploration party, led by Don Gaspar de Portolà arrived on November 2, 1769, the first documented European visit to San Francisco Bay. Iirimaa

However, the following day the Parliament of Northern Ireland exercised its right under the Anglo-Irish Treaty to opt back into the United Kingdom. This action, known as the Partition of Ireland, followed four attempts to introduce devolved autonomous government over the whole island of Ireland (in 1886, 1893, 1914 and 1920). The Irish Free State was abolished when Ireland was formally established on 29 December 1937, the day the Constitution of Ireland came into force. Irish independence in 1922 was preceded by the Easter Rising of 1916, when Irish volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army took over sites in Dublin and Galway under terms expressed in the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. The seven signatories of this proclamation, Patrick Pearse, Thomas MacDonagh, Thomas Clarke, Sean MacDiarmada, Joseph Plunkett, Eamonn Ceannt and James Connolly, were executed, along with nine others, and thousands were interned precipitating the Irish War of Independence.

Estonian Defence League

It has and always will be free and open to all of those, who are even a little bit interested in it. The Estonian Defence League was preceded in 1918 by Estonia's first armed home defence organisation: The Citizens' Defence Organisation (Omakaitse) against the public disorder accompanying the Russian Revolution. On 11 November in 1918 the Citizens' Defence Organisation was renamed the Estonian Defence League which performed the tasks of a national guard in the War of Independence. In October of 1925 was founded the Estonian Defence League magazine "Defend Your Home!" (''Defend your home''). To develop the Defence League and give it a family dimension, the Commander of the Defence League approved the temporary statutes of the Women's Home Defence in 1927. In 1928 the Body of Elders decided to invite the boy scout organisation the Young Eagles to join the Defence League. In 1932 the Girl Scout organisation Home Daughters was established at the Women's Home Defence

BrLit Character Sketch

She appeared to share her nature with the Caribbean Islands, she seemed to somehow be a part of them. At the same time she feared greatly for her knowledge of the dark magic. I’d say that Christophine had quite an influential role in the book. She took over Antoinette’s mother’s role and gave her a stable life as she started to take care of her. As for me, she seemed caring and affectionate, especially when it came to Antoinette and her wellbeing. Her confidence and independence are respectful traits, no matter what. If I had to meet her, I’d most probably be a bit frightened due to her proficiency in black magic and I think the combination of that and Jamaican appearance is pretty scary. Liisa-Maria Pihlak, 12B

Why did Russian civil war breake out in 1918

They were afraid because the Bolsheviks believed in World Revolution, the Bolsheviks set up the Comintern, led by Zinoviev, which said it would cause communist revolutions all over the world. Consequently, the Allies sent armies to destroy the Bolsheviks, British, American and French armies attacked from Archangel, Ukraine, and Vladivostock. As an result Bolsheviks had their victory and a huge establishment of the Soviet Union. Also a lots of countries got their independence like Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. Reason for Russian civil war in 1918 was basically the oppositional ideologies fighting for government control and because of that many people lost their lives.

The company also emphasises extensive consultation, information sharing and seeking to establish positive interrelationships between individual changes. How Are Black Women Portrayed in the Novel?

men, especially Christophine. She is a wise and loyal figure. Christophine introduces Antoinette to the black culture of the Caribbean and instills in her a sensitivity to nature and belief in the practices of obeah. She is an outsider because she dresses and speaks differently from the Jamaican blacks. She is a servant, but, unlike the other black servants who live at Coulibri, she remains loyal to the Cosway women. She provides a contrast to Annette because she exercises complete independence from men and distrusts their motives. Although she has three children by three different fathers, Christophine remains unmarried, saying “I thank my God. I keep my money. I don´t give it to no worthless man“. Times and rules change and in consequence, women change too. This novel is the evidence that after the Emancipation Act, black women and ex-slaves started to find and explore themselves and became confident and independent, althought some of them were rude and unrealible.

Review "THE CATCHER IN THE RYE"

what I am and what I am living for and is there any point for it. Serious influence, isn't it? On the other hand, this book gave me a lot. It has put me thinking about significant things, as well as J.D. Salinger's novel is a wake-up call for all teenagers and in a sense is inspiring to read because it sends out the message that we should all remain hopeful and true to ourselves. Teenagers can appeal to this story because of its complex themes of rebellion, identity and independence, but I would recommend everyone to read it before becoming an adult because it's the only way you could understand Holden's actions while reading the book! To conclude, I would like to say that I don't regret reading "The catcher in the rye". It wasn't similar to the books I've read before, so that it was something new and uncommon. I think that this is one of those books that everyone should read being a teen. Maybe this book would save from some mistakes we can make being a teenager

Theatres in Estonia

Theatres in Estonia Native Estonian theatre, born in 1870 with the plays of the patriotic poetess Lydia Koidula, came into being on the crest of national awakening. Its tastes were at first pretty simple, the favourite genres being folk comedy and romantic melodrama, although both also transmitted halfhidden social and political attitudes. In less than forty years, in 1906, the leading amateur companies, the "Vanemuine" in the university town Tartu and the "Estonia" in Tallinn, could become professional, and in 1911 the "Endla" of P ärnu joined them. Theatre became especially popular amongst Estonians in the second half of the 19th century. Before that time, theatre had mostly been staged in German for the benefit of the local nobility and merchants. Theatre in Estonian emerged in various song and drama societies, the strongholds of national thought. In the early 20th century, th...

A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue is an icon of freedom and of the United States, and was a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad. ● Due to the troubled political situation in France, work on the statue did not commence until the early 1870s. ● The statue was constructed in France, shipped overseas in crates, and assembled on the completed pedestal on what was then called Bedloe's Island. ●
