What is Easter ?
Easter is the time for  holidays , festivals and a time
for  giving   chocolate  Easter  eggs . But Easter means
much more.
Easter is the oldest and the most important  Christian
Festival, the  celebration  of the  death  and  coming  to
life  again  of  Jesus   Christ .
For  Christians , the  dawn  of Easter  Sunday  with its
message  of new life is the high point of the Christian
year .
In  fact , it has been in vogue  even  before the pre
Christian  times
Easter story
Easter is the story of Jesus' last  days  in Jerusalem
before his death. The Easter story includes Maundy
Thursday (the Last supper  leading  to the Eucharist),
Good   Friday  (the day on which Jesus was crucified)
and Easter Day (the day on which Jesus  came   back
to life).
It is a sad story because Jesus was kil ed. But the
story has a very  happy   ending , because Jesus
came back to life and visited his  friends  and
followers once more. He did not die at al , but  went
back up to  Heaven  to be with God, his  father .
The  Traditional  Egg  Gift
The  first  eggs  given  at Easter were birds eggs.  These  eggs were
painted in bright  colours  to give  them  further  meaning  as a gift
As chocolate became more wide  spread  in the  20th  Century, a
chocolate version of the traditional painted egg was  developed . The
size  of the chocolate egg has  grown  over the  years  and is now more
likely to be the size of an ostrich egg  rather   than  a small birds egg.
Special  Food
Boiled eggs are traditionally served at  breakfast , then Easter cards
and gifts may be exchanged
Roast lamb, which is the main dish at Jewish Passover, is the
traditional meat for the main meal on Easter Day. It is served with
mint   sauce  and vegetables.
The traditional Easter pudding is custard tarts sprinkled with currants
and  flat  Easter biscuits.
Simnel  cake  is baked for tea.
Easter Biscuits are sometimes called "Cakes", and are eaten on
Easter Sunday. They  contain  spices,
currants and sometimes grated  lemon  rind.
Games  for  Children
Egg Huntvery special treats for  kids . Chocolate
eggs are  hidden  for the children to find.
Egg  rolling  or the egg  race , when competitors try to
be the first to roll their egg  across  a course or down
hill …  without  breaking it!
More traditions
Morris   Dance  is the  biggest  attraction of Easter jubilation in England.
This dance is always staged by professional  male  troupes who
observe old  spring  dances to frighten away the  evil  spirits of  winter
The attire of the dancers is extremely traditional wherein they wear
white shorts, red sashes, black trousers and straw hats. Red and
green  ribbons  along  with flowers and streamers are also added to
their attire to make their  look  all the more colorful.
Churches are beautifully decorated with  different   color  flowers.
White lilies are placed on the  altar  and these gorgeous flowers are
also displayed on the graveyard.
For offering prayers in the  church , men and  women  dress up in their
special outfits and as a  part  of their wardrobe, colorful Easter
bonnets embellished with flowers is like a must.

The festival is held during the first full week of every July. An international jury awards the grand prize for the best film; awards are also given to the best film about the survival of indigenous peoples and the best scientific research. Main Sights England is known for its many world-famous sightseeings and people all around the world come to see them. Some of them are even like symbols of England. The most famous ones are: Stonehenge is one of the greatest national icons of Britain. That prehistoric monument is located in the plain of Salisbury, in the county of Wiltshire in the south-west of England. It is built of 150 enormous stones which are set in a purposive circular pattern. Stonehenge was probably built to mark the longest and shortest day of the year because it lies on the line of the midsummer sunrise and the midsummer sunset. That would have enabled people to keep a record of changing of seasons. Although it is still unclear who built it. Hadrian’s Wall is an ancient wall which was built in 2nd century by Hadrian, the emperor of

part of another nation or state; more rarely after the end of a military occupation. Most countries observe their respective independence days as a national holiday, and in some cases the observance date is controversial or contested. Good Friday Moveable Friday Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday, or Easter Friday, though the latter properly refers to the Friday in Easter week. Easter Sunday Moveable Sunday Easter is a Christian festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament. Easter is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-

seemed so beautiful. So for us, their grandchildren, painting eggs has no connection with religion traditions. It is more like a way of expressing one's creativity. We use different colors and techniques: painting with herbs, watercolors, markers, special colors etc. There aren't any certain patterns to use, everyone can do it any way they like. We also give colored eggs as presents to friends and children are cracking the eggs. More than Easter Estonians have traditionally celebrated a spring. There is a day near Easter called Paastumaarjapäev (the Day of Virgin Mary and Fast) which is a women's day. Women and girls go together to swim in a spring in the sunrise it will make them fresh and goodlooking for rest of the year. After they dance and sing and dance traditional round dances. It used to be the only day when men stayed at home and took care of the house and children.

Legend has it that resourceful Saint Patrick made use of the three-lobed shamrock as a diagram to explain the Holy Trinity to his uneducated congregation. However, the pre-Christian Irish had long associated the shamrock with Trefulngid Tre-eochair ("The Triple Bearer of the Triple Key"), the spring fertility god manifestation, whose symbol can be a shamrock or three legs spiraling together (as seen on the flag of the Isle of Man). The Irish celebrate Easter, and Easter Monday is a public holiday. Christmas is celebrated on 25 December, but celebrations may last until New Year's Day. An old custom has boys blackening their faces, carrying paper wrens, and asking for spare change on Saint Stephen's Day (26 December). This is called "hunting the wren," and the boys are known as 'wren boys.' This tradition commemorates the old story of how the wily wren tricked the mighty eagle into giving up the title of King of All Birds. This

Stonehenge was produced by a culture that left no written records. Built on Salisbury Plain, in Wiltshire, England some time between 5,000-4,300 years ago. One of the most famous megaliths in the world, dating from prehistoric times. Stonehenge consists of circles of stone arranged in complex patterns, and their origin is still being explored. Some of the stones come from over 200 miles away in Wales. There is little or no direct evidence revealing the construction techniques used by the Stonehenge builders. It was probably associated with sun-worship and

to put under their pillows. When the guests began to dance, the bride and her mother went to the bridal chamber where she took off her wedding clothes and changed into her nightgown. The bride and groom spent their honeymoon in her parents' house. They were expected to stay in the bedroom for five days or more. Creole Customs Creole customs can be divided into two kinds: religious and non-religious. Religious customs focus on holidays: All Saints Day, Mardi gras and Easter, for example. On All Saints Day Creoles bring flowers made of white, black, or purple tissue paper to place on graves in the cemetery. The week before this holiday shops display crowns and crosses with black beads. Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. At Easter, rabbits come out at night. The children try to stay up as late as possible, but they don't see the rabbits. The rabbit's nests are found filled
