Cars enslave us rather than liberate us

Cars enslave us rather than liberate us Transportation is something that has a big influence on people's lives. Especially cars that offer the best comfort for humans. There is always a need to go somewhere: to school, work or just for a journey and it is always good to reach a destination as soon as possible. Of course, the importance of the car depends on the person's residence, whether the person lives in a city or in the countryside, the needs are different. In my opinion, cars enslave people because once a person gets behind the wheel, there is no way out of this comfort. To begin with, car requires a many expenditure, starting from purchasing a car and ending with technical controls, supplying of fuel and so on. It can be said that the material side of the car sustenance is difficult. A person must have a stable income to afford a car. Moreover, it is expensive to get a driver's license. It can be said ...

SPEECH: Attitude rather than aptitude is the key to succsess

Attitude rather than aptitude is the key to success Dear classmates and teacher! Nearly every person in this room have big hopes for the future. Almost EVERY ONE of us want to accomplish more than the others. We've set our standards high. Much higher than they were before and every generation lifts them higher. Every one of us dream of/about all kind of things. Some of them are small and brief, some bigger and long termed. Unfortunately, most of those remain to dreams, because nowadays people are lazy. Somewhy we are waiting things to happen without putting any effort to it. They say patience is a vertue, but if you want things to happen you need to come out from your comfort-zone and take action. (50 sek) When I was searching for materials for this speach, I constantly noticed 80/20 rule. It sais/d that FULLY eighty percent of success will be determined by attitude and ONLY twenty by aptitude. (I think the numbers are a lit...

Should children be encouraged to do sports?

Should children be encouraged to do sports? The majority of parents do not know how to make their children understand the importance of exercising, especially because of the amout of technology no child will rather go out and play football than sitting at home and watching TV or playing video games. Should we encourage children to do sports? Firstly, doing sports is important for our health and if children do not do sports it may cause health conditions when they get older for example overweight. Choosing an exercise should be appropriated to the child's age and development. A good thing to do is to take the child for a walk, swimming pool or even to play a video game Wii.

Contitional sentences

Conditionals Sentences with if are used to express possibilities. 0 Zero conditional If-clause present (past) simple Main clause present (past) simple Sometimes sentences with if express certainty rather than possibility. The zero conditional is used to talk about sth. that is always true (such as a scientific fact), or that was always true in the past. In this type of conditional we can use when instead of if. E.g., If/When you mix blue and red, you get purple. If/When you don't water flowers, they die. (present simple in both parts of the sentence) If/When I asked her to come with us, she always said no. (past simple in both parts of the sentence) 1 First conditional

Weather and Nature in Estonia

Weather and Nature in Estonia. I want to tell about Estonian weather.Estonian weather is very different. It can be in winter ime around 30C and half a year later there will be +30C. Best time, of course, is July. Then is a quite warm.Temperature is about +25C.But in fact, there is no summer at all. This is because Estonia is rather wet, windy, rainy and cloudy country. Spring is usual, rather cold, but sun is already shines. On March and April can happen that during ay there is five degrees below zero until 10 degrees in same day just early monings are really icy but afternoon if sun is high it is already nice and warm. Autumn is very similar to spring. There are rather icy and wet. Winter is very crafty, some days temperature can be around 5 degrees below zero, but sometimes can be 20 degrees below zero.If you like skiing then winter in Estonia is a best time for it.

Inglise keele variandid (Varieties of English)

12-15% of native speakers in England use Standard English (BrEng). 3-5% of them use RP (EngEng). Non-standard varieties of English are often called dialects. They are any other dialect of English other than Standard English. They are stigmatized as shameful and inferior, socially lower. Judging people by their accent might, however, be offensive. These varieties are connected to race in US and class in UK. Grammatical and lexical differences throughout the world in the English language are rather insignificant . Most oftenly pronounciation is the most significant/different. Deviations from the standards: 1. Multiple negations ,,I didn't do nothing." 2. Ain't negative of ,,have" or ,,be" 3. ,,Never" used to refer to a single occasion in the past ,,I never done it" (I didn't do it) 4. Extension of 3rd person ending ,,s" to 1st and 2nd person forms ,,I/You wants" (used by the working class) 5. Regularisation of ,,be" ,,Me/You/They was" 6

Emprical social research

derived from CSO Labour Force Statistics and interviews. 1.4. 1.5. Individual women make decisions whether to enter the labor for different reasons and ways. Importance of women´s individual preferences and her insistence should be taken under consideration. It cannot be assumed that women are only at home because of obstacles to labour force participation. Women are not necessarily exploited because they work in part-time low paid sectors, but rather that this is the result of choice to prioritize home life. Womens didn´t see themselves as exploited, instead they valued what work gave them: freedom, social networks, ability to escape the house and the power within the home. Individual women´s aspirations have to be investigated, rather than deduced from social policies or official ideologies. Full time work can be the result of contingent and almost random events in women´s life, rather than particular lifestyle

Essee: The effects mobile phones have on our lives.

that mobile phones may cause some sleeping problems. Another, more usual problem what comes with cellphones is that they are expensive to use and when the battery is dead, it is completely useless. Also if parents trust their children to use mobile phones at very young age, the may get surprised when they finally see the bill. Because there are many addictive things like games and ringtones etc, what seem very tempting to buy them. All things considered, I think that mobile phones are rather good than bad to it's users. We all know how mobile phones makes everything easier in this fast pace life, but the disadvantages are rather exceptional. I am happy with my mobile phone, but sometimes i reminisce the times without it.

Argumentative essay "Too many people spend too much time playing games and sports"

sports. Some say that people nowadays spend too much time playing games and sports. It is my opinion that it is important to do sports and playing games is developing. First of all, there aren’t too many people who do sports, i’d say too less. Most people I know enjoy staying indoors. I think everyone should take part in sports in order to have healthy body and a healthy mind. Secondly, playing computer games is rather good than bad. Games help people relax and they can teach us a lot about history or geography as well. Opponents say that people are wasting time on games and sports. Firstly, they argue that sports can be injurious. For example, you broke your leg while playing football. They also say that computer games are addictive and make people aggressive. However, in my opinion, sports and games is very good way to spend your free time.

Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (main characters)

for him. Time and again, through conversations with men like the priest, Ettore Moretti, and Gino, Henry distances himself from such abstract notions as faith, honor, and patriotism. Concepts such as these mean nothing to him beside such concrete facts of war as the names of the cities in which he has fought and the numbers of decimated streets. Against this bleak backdrop, Henry's reaction to Catherine Barkley is rather astonishing. The reader understands why Henry responds to the game that Catherine proposes--why he pledges his love to a woman he barely knows: like Rinaldi, he hopes for a night's simple pleasures. But an active sex drive does not explain why Henry returns to Catherine--why he continues to swear his love even after Catherine insists that he stop playing. In his fondness for Catherine, Henry reveals a vulnerability usually hidden by his stoicism and masculinity

How can we reduce air pollution levels in our cities?

Finally, big-factory owners should pay attention where they build on their factories. I think that it is very important that they don't build them in the middle of cities. The pollution twhat comes from the factories is bigdrastic. In conclusion, there are many ways to make our cities' air pollution levels lower. We all need to do what we can. As the old proverb says "To make things better, you should start with yourself". You address the propts given in the textbook, but in a rather vague way. Don't be afraid to use the expressions and phrases from the textbook The structure of your essay is very good, especially the conclusion. However, since you have not been as precise as the task required you to be and your language use has been rather simple (which is why it is largely correct), the mark is a good strong 4.

Essee "Teenager and pocket money"

Should teenagers nowadays earn their pocket money. Many children earn their pocket money by doing some jobs at home, but lots of them do not need to work for it. I think that it depends on the specific children whether his/her parents should pay him/her. My parents do not give me money for bringing firewood or mowing the lawn. They have never paid me for such jobs and I think I would feel rather bad if they did. I have understood that I need these domestic jobs done as much as everybody else in my family. My mother doesn't get paid for feeding me, so why should I be better than her. I know a family where one of the children gets paid for simple domestic jobs and the other does not. It seems unfair to me. On the other hand, I find that getting paid for chores could be rather good motivator for younger kids. In the world full of computers and TVs we are getting lazier day by day

Why are people ingnoring evironmental issues

Why are people ingnorig evironmental issues? People are always talking about environmental issues without actually doing anything about it.There are not many people who are devoted to saving the Earth. It seems like people just do not care, but that might be just a small part of the reason. The biggest reason for ignoring environmental issues might be that people tend to focus on immediate problems rather than on problems that are far away in the future and seem unrealistic. If there is no immediate danger or a problem to be fixed, than people just do not consider it to be important. And people do have immediate problems to be fixed, because life is getting busier each day. People have already so much to worry about, they do not have the time to make „Earth saving plans“. The perfect reason, or rather an excuse is that ordinary people do not have time to care about environmental issues.

Virtual friendship

Virtual friendship Virtual world undoubtedly makes our lives easier and makes it easier for us to get more friends, but are those real friends? Although virtual world gives us a chance to make more friends, there is considerable disagreement over whether these new friends are real or not. The main argument for the virtual world being superficial is that nowadays people rather tend to stay in front of their screens and just talk than go out and have a good time eye to eye. Therefore people might not have any idea who they are talking to or what these people really think of them. What is more, people often spend more time with their virtual friends chatting rather than dedicating time to the people that truly care about them. A final key argument relates to people turning lasier, with internet people will go less outside to make real friends

Pet therapy

It has given difficult children, lonely old people and even anti-social prisoners a completely new outlook on life  Even though pet therapy is only now being widely used, it is not a new idea. In the eighteenth century an English doctor, William Tuke, filled the grounds of a hospital for mentally disturbed people with chickens, rabbits and goats. At a time when people were usually punished for strange behavior rather than helped, this was a radical new approach to treating the mentally disturbed. Tuke's idea was that patients could learn self-control by caring for creatures weaker than themselves.  This is an idea which has persisted. In New York, horses, cows, cats and dogs were recruited to heal soldiers who had been wounded during World War II. These animals comforted the traumatized and helped the battle-scarred to avoid becoming obsessed with their injuries.

The Catcher in the Rye - kokkuvõte

The themes are apparent throughout the novel, giving the reader a clear view of what it’s like to be a teenager, who has no idea what to do with their life. The rebellious tone of the novel and its characters shines out right from the beginning, not only through the actions, such as getting expelled or being in a fight, but also through the frequent use of profanities, which make the characters more realistic rather than adorned. Even though the themes and topics discussed in the novel make it rather relatable, I believe they also make it unsuitable for youngsters who have just reached adolescence. In addition to the frequent use of profanity, the at times strongly depressive, violent or sexual tone of the novel, alongside with the difficulty of the problems addressed and discussed, make it overly difficult for the youngsters to completely understand,

Why does Marx elevate proletariat? Do you see Wright doing the same? What do you think why?

While reading Wright’s thougths and understanding a bit more of his point of view, I could almost believe, that Karl Marx saw the world through his own perfection. Seemed to me, that Wright thought about other parties and societies as well and saw the whole thing from a much bigger perspective, which ultimately, makes him differ from Karl Marx. Wright also saw difference from the obedience relationship between classes, he distinguished domination and exploiting rather than just upper and lower class, which have very concrete aspects that define them. In my opinion, Wright did not think the same because he did see the society in a much larger context and bigger picture, whereas the middle class was dealing with life instead of revolutionizing, which inevitably causes inequality. Some people have business knowledge and others have skills, which necessarily makes one getting exploited by the other

He has to constantly analyze what kind of shot is best to support the story, how long it should be and what kind of details it should contain. If the director thinks that many shots should be used, it might not be possible and his imagination is limited, then by whatever kind of factor. So in his work, he might rather be using one powerful shot rather than many good shots, that together might work better than one epic shot. For example, in a film „Battleship“ directed by P. Berg, there is a shot of protagonist lieutenant where camera sweeps 180 degrees while actor counter rotates. But this shot doesn’t work in a way that it creates the feel of spaciousness, because there is no background and therefore there is no parallax. This shot should’ve been done in more minimalistical and original way.

To sum up, I lack of experience and am too keen on reading novels. This is what makes me so naïve and sometimes causes trouble. Even when I think I should read less I just cannot help it! I love fiction too much. So, I think that this is it, I do not have much to say anymore. Now you know what to expect from me. Henry Tilney My name is Henry Tilney. I am actually not sure what to tell you about myself, because I am just an ordinary man and I think of myself as a rather boring person. I definitely do not want to sound self-centered, but I must say that I am always rather gentle and caring. I pay attention to others' feelings and never want to hurt anybody. I often display a humorous arrogance and ironic humour towards women. I especially like to do that to Catherine because she is just so naïve. Do not get me wrong, I love and respect women very much, but sometimes I just cannot hold back a good joke. I

TEXT The Irish Problem

The Irish Problem ~the Irish can not be trusted~ In 1641, just prior to the Civil War, the Irish of Ulster had begun an uprising and attacked the planters who had been settled 30 years before. Between 10,000 and 15,000 Protestant planters were murdered by the Irish at places such as Portadown. Due to the war, the English did nothing about this and the death-toll became heavily exaggerated over time. In 1649, after the Civil War had ended, Cromwell landed at ...

for a better future, to learn, to differ the wrong form the right. Now why do we bollocks up in the first place? The answer lies in you, yourself have to find out why did you fail and what can be learned from it. Frequent failing can cause sadness, depression and lack of motivation but it's not the way to go if you want to succeed in life and become a better you. It's better to understand your mistakes and learn from them to expand your knowledge rather to get everything right and stay on elementary level of problem solving. To fail or not to fail, that is the question. To everyone who state they've never felt failure, first of all, remember when you missed the bus or burnt a meal, tripped over something or got an F in school, they are all but backslides. Secondly if you've never failed you have yet been successful to learn anything in this life. My point is: it's better to fail than do everything right

Constructivism theory

As a paradigm or worldview, constructivism (as a learning theory) states that learning is an active, contextualized process of constructing knowledge rather than acquiring it. Knowledge is constructed based on personal experiences and hypotheses of the environment. Learners continuously test these hypotheses through social negotiation. Each person has a different interpretation and construction of knowledge process. The learner is not a blank slate (tabula rasa) but brings past experiences and cultural factors to a situation The term ,,Constructivism" was first introduced to IR theory in 1989 by Nicholas Onuf

We all have felt good about donating something.

realistic. Moreover, donating an organ seems to me like giving a part of your life away. But circumstances and life can change us and our thinking. If a family member, relative or friend needed a transplant in order to stay alive, it would definitely be easier to donate an organ in that case. I am not sure that would I do it for a stranger. It really depends on who needs the organ. If someone I care about needs an organ to survive, I would gladly donate it. I would much rather go through a struggle with them rather than sit there, watching them suffer, and do nothing when I have the means to help. I do understand people who agree to donate their body parts in the event of their own death. You do not need your body anymore anyway, so why not? Thousands of lives are saved every day in the US by people willing to donate their organs in this way. If the day ever comes that I would need an organ transplant, then I will be very thankful to my donor, whether I

Manners in Estonia

to freedom during the "Singing Revolution" of 1989-91. Manners Estonians on the whole are quiet and reserved. They tend to speak softly and do not like to draw attention to themselves. Being rational, calm and not going to emotional extremes are all qualities that respected. At first Estonians can come across as aloof. Once a relationship warms up this becomes less so. Meeting and Greeting Greetings can come across as rather formal and rather reserved. Men should initiate greetings with women and the younger person always greets the older person. When meeting someone make sure you are stood up, offer direct eye contact and give a nice firm handshake. The most common greeting is "tere" ("hello"). Titles are very important. "Härra" is for Mr, "Prova" is Mrs and "Preili" is Miss. All should be followed with the surname. Only use first names once you have been invited to do so. Gift Giving Etiquette

Correlation between brand longevity and the diffusion of innovations theory

with their acquaintances. DOI theory: Practice and Application in Branding products & Services Branding is pretty much creating or changing perception of the product, in order to influence the favourability towards adoption by the customer segment or mass market. In this article the concept of product brand is used, and differentiated between two categories: Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) – they could add to social value, but rather fulfil a definite purpose. Decisions on these kinds of brands are done rather quickly. The decision to even buy something in that product category is a simple need. The products don’t also differ too much from each other. In branding, it is thus essential to portray the relative advantages in a direct way. High-involvement products – things that portray social symbolism and status. These products are more expensive, they depict social class and are leveraged for acceptance

Sotsioloogia essee: Hechter ja Horne

Hechter and Horne (Hechter and Horne, 2003) describe norms as our "external criteria for evaluation" and values as our "internal criteria for evaluation". As norms are external, there are sanctions in the society so that the can exist effectively. People obey norms because they receive social encouragement for doing so. Norms are generally beneficial to the whole community why the help in maintaining social order even if the individuals are all rather rational. Values, however, represent our desires and are affected by only inner "sanctions" guilt and self-control, which differ from person to person. Values can also be explained in two categories - individual values and social values. Social values are affected by ethical principles or the group individual associates him/herself with. Nevertheless, norms and values prove to be, too, imperfect when explaining social order. Despite the general positive norms, antisocial behaviour persists

Letter of enquiry

4 November 2011 Dear Sir or Madam I am writing in reply to your advertisement in a magazine. I would be interested in publishing my work. I would be grateful if you could answer some questions, as the advertisement was rather brief. First of all, I would like to know if you have set an age limit or a deadline. I also wonder whether the poetry is acceptable and where the work will be published. Finally, could you inform me if I may send in my manuscript by e-mail. I look forward to receiving your reply. Yours faithfully, Tiiu Tamm

BARRIERS TO DISTRICT HEATING DEVELOPMENT IN SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

reduce heating demand and, hence, the advantages of district heating because investment costs must be carried by less supplied heat. Another general barrier to district heating is the EU emission trading scheme, which favours individual heating because individual CO 2 emissions do not need allowances. types of dh barriers In the countries analysed in this project, the barriers are of very diverse nature. The obstacles are dominated by difficulties for district heating itself rather than for foreign companies' operations in the countries. In the British Isles, it is largely a question of establishing district heating as a natural element in society. In France, it is about large domestic companies that may offer superior competition to foreign firms. In the Czech Republic, French and other companies from abroad dominate the DH business but the technical design of district-heating production may hamper DH development

The Rise and Demise of the New Public Management, 28 10

(especially Thatcher and Reagan) and the perceived crisis of the Welfare state, but it came to full fruition in the early 1990s. NPM is part of the neo-classical economic imperialism within the social sciences, i.e. the tendency to approach all questions with neo-classical economic methods. In advanced PA scholarship itself, especially but not only in Europe, NPM is on the defensive by now, if taken as a world view (i.e. an ideology), rather than as one of several useful perspectives for PA reform (i.e. part of a pluralistic approach). The question here is more whether one favors post-NPM (anti-NPM) or post-post-NPM, Weberian-based PA, the latter being the most advanced, and the most sophisticated, and now called the Neo-Weberian State (NWS). What was an option ten years ago is not an option anymore today. I would say that in PA · in 1995, it was still possible to believe in NPM, although there were the first

My favourite band: Dagö

Dagö First time, when I heard band Dagö playing, was at Viljandi Folk Music Festival in 2007. I liked them very much and I went to all three concersts they gave at Festival. Although they have made music for about a decade, they have never been widely known. Maybe because they write and play music with their own style rather than try to win hearts and ears of masses. But always known in certain circle of people, who go to theatre and enjoy quality music, because lead singer of the band, Lauri Saataplu, is well-known actor and singer. I like their music, because of the addicting off-beat rythm they have. They have announced that their new album ,,Plan Delta" will be released in April of 2011.
