  • USA’s type of the country is constitutinal republic . Their type of government is parliamentary democracy
  • The flag has 13 red and white stipes which stand for the first states . The flag also has 50 stars on it which represent the states now and the last star is for Hawaii .
  • Their motto is In God We Trust . The national bird is the bald eagle. Symbols : The Lincoln Memorial , The White House, the Statue of Liberty (a gift from France 1886), Uncle Sam, the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument .
  • America was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. Christopher Columbus arrived in the „New World“ in 1492 and thought it was India and called the people Indians.

  • The first Americans lived in teepees and hunted buffalos. There were many different tribes and their food, clothing , homes and art varied according to the climate and landscape around them . In West the tribes were hunters and in Southwest the tribes grew corn. American Indians today prefer to be called Native Americans, they helped the early settlers to adapt a life in a new country. When the settlers wanted to take over tribal land the Native American were forced to move to seperate areas called reservations. Traditional Indian culture ( including dances, religion and language ) was forbidden. Today there are about 2 million Native Americans who live on the 278 reservations across the country. Modern Native Americans take pride in their traditions which includes the art crafts, costumes, songs and dances of their ancestors.
  • The Korean war took place form 1950 to 1953. It was a war between North Korea and South Korea, USA took South Korea’s side. Differences between 2 governments caused the war. The result of the war: it gave new borders(???)
  • Vietnamise War also known as resitance war against Americans took place from 1955 to 1975. The causes of the Vietnam War revolve around the simple belief held by America that communism was threatening to expand all over South- East Asia.
  • There are a lot of memorials in hte USA which are for the soldiers who lost their lives in the wars for ex korean war memorial and the vietnam memorial.
  • The Cold War took place from 1945-1991. The United States and the Soviet Union formed political and military alliances with other countries to help strengthen their positions . They never fought directly. The Cold War was a state of political and military tension after World War II between powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies and others ) and powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its allies in the Warsaw Pact). It left a significant legacy.
  • The United Nations was formed on 24 October 1945 to promote international cooperation . The organization was created following the Second World War to prevent another such conflict.
  • Edward Snowden was born in 1938. He is an American computer professional who leaked classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA). USA is accusing him of espionage and he is currently in Russia. He also revealed that he is a trained spy. Thanks to him security has improved .

    The United States of America. History. For thousands of years America was unknown to Europe. There lived only the native people, who had come from Siberia many thousand years ago by a land bridge. They had spread over the country, varying enormously from nomadic food gatherers to fishing societies. Then the Vikings visited Canada around AD 1000, but they did not stay. In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered America while trying to reach India. He named the native people Indians, because he though he had reached India. He didn't stay either and in the sixteenth century the first Europeans to settle in America were the Spanish, the English and the French. The first village founded by the English settlers was in Virginia in 1607. It was called Jamestown. They didn't have good relations with the Indians and many of them died.
