Iseseisev töö nr2: „Drivers of Convergence in Eleven Eastern European Countries“

Iseseisev töö nr.2 1l. Kasuta artiklit ,,Drivers of Convergence in Eleven Eastern European Countries" ( http://elibrary.worldbank.org/content/workingpaper/10.1596/1813-9450-6185) ja arutle selle üle, millised on Eesti tööjõuturu probleemid võrreldes EL 15-ga (Artikkel on ka Moodles). Meil on palju inimesi. Meie tootlikus on madal. Samas hetkel on meil probleem selles, et meie hairdus ei vasta nõudmistele, ehk meil pole piisavalt vajalikke 2. Miks töötus on nii majanduslik kui ka sotsiaalne probleem nii kogu Euroopa Liidu kui ka iga üksiku liikmesriigi jaoks?

development). The ENP goes beyond existing relationships to offer political association and deeper economic integration, increased mobility and more people-to- people contacts. The level of ambition of the relationship depends on the extent to which these values are shared. Some examples which steps ENP has made in the field of human rights and which are represented in the report of implementation of the European Neighbourhood Policy about Eastern Partnership: The adherence to the shared values of democracy, rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms is the very foundation of the Eastern Partnership. Significant steps have been taken to strengthen bilateral dialogues on these matters. Since July 2009 three rounds of Human Rights Dialogue have taken place with Georgia. The first meeting of the EU Armenia Human Rights Dialogue took place in December 2009 and the second in December 2010

Lake Võrtsjärv

Not considering Lake Peipsi on the Russian border, it surpasses all other Estonian lakes together by the surface area. The few islands are mostly located in the southern part of the lake. Tondisaar and Pähksaar are permanent islands while Ainsaar turns into a peninsula during low water, and Heinassaar is flooded in high water periods. The shores of Võrtsjarv are mostly low: swampy in the southern part, and sandy in the northern part; the eastern shore is higher. Despite its large surface area, the lake is shallow. The deepest place lies between the eastern shore and the island of Tondisaar along the submerged elongation of the riverbed of the Väike Emajõgi River. The lake depression is of preglacial origin but has somewhat been influenced by glaciers. On the eastern shore the Devonian sandstone bedrock is denuded along a stretch of several kilometres. This abrasion shore at Tamme is 3 - 8 m high and

Estonian culture

been influenced by the traditions of the adjacent area's various Finnic, Baltic, Slavic and Germanic peoples as well as the cultural developments in the former dominant powers Sweden and Russia. Traditionally, Estonia has been seen as an area of rivalry between western and eastern Europe on many levels. An example of this geopolitical legacy is an exceptional combination of nationally recognized Christian traditions: a western Protestant and an eastern Orthodox Church. Like the mainstream culture in the other Nordic countries, Estonian culture can be seen to build upon the ascetic environmental realities and traditional livelihoods, a heritage of comparatively widespread egalitarianism out of practical reasons (see e.g.: Everyman's right and universal suffrage), and the ideals of closeness to nature and self-sufficiency. Estonian culture developed in earnest during the nineteenth-century period of national awakening

Estonia's experience of joining NATO can be useful for several states. At this point of time Estonia supports Georgia, Ukraine, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. Purpose of NATO The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) is an alliance created to unite Europe and North America in matters of defence and security. The principle of NATO is that security of each member states depends on security of all its members. If there is a threat to one's security, it concerns everyone. Central and Eastern Europe, including Estonia, fell under the influence of the Soviet Union or even became part of it after the Second World War. It was the time when twelve western states from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean established the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) on 4 April 1949. NATO was founded to balance out a threat coming from the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Treaty. NATO founding members were committed to defend each other in case of military aggression against any of the members

Setomaa

Names for the communities have been derived either from the central village or settlement: e.g. Irboska nulk or from the peculiarity of location. Names were also based on other features: e.g. Kohopiimänulk - implying at the local tradition of making cottage cheese ( kohopiim is a sort of cottage cheese). In the autumn of 1921 Seto people were for the first time ever given surnames. Since 1944,the western part of Setomaa belongs to the Republic of Estonia and the eastern part to the Russian Federation. This kind of division is the source of the Setos' burning problems: the split-up congregations, location of properties and relatives on the other side of the state border. The Setos have preserved their original dialect, skills of cooking their traditional food, their beautiful and peculiar folk costumes. The most attractive decoration to go with the folk costume is the set of silver jewellery: numerous necklaces and a conic brooch worn by married women. The

Agriculture

Large parts of Britain, notably in Scotland and Wales, are suitable only for grazing. Overall, in the first half of the 1990s about 39 per cent of agricultural land was under pasture, another 27 per cent under rough grazing, and the remainder under crops or lying fallow. Over half of all full-time farms are devoted to dairy or beef farming, or sheep. Cattle and sheep contribute more than 40 per cent of the value of gross agricultural output. Arable farming is concentrated mainly in eastern and south-central England and in eastern Scotland. The main crops grown are wheat, barley, oilseed rape, sugar beet, potatoes and oats. There is also a significant horticultural industry producing a variety of vegetables, orchard and soft fruits, and bulbs and flowers. The high productivity of the arable sector has been achieved by the removal of hedgerows to create larger fields, by mechanization, and by the intensive use of fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides

Estonian War of Independence

Estonian War of Independence During World War I the greatest colonial power in Europe the Russian Empire seized to exist. On its ruins the formerly enchained nations founded their own states. Among them was the Estonian Republic, officially declared on February 24, 1918. When Germany surrendered to the Western Allies on November 11, 1918 a strategic vacuum arose in Eastern Europe. The new rulers of Russia the Bolsheviks decided to use it as a proper moment to re-conquer their lost territories. The ultimate goal was international communist revolution and Germany was the first standing on their way. Thus on November 13, 1918 the Government of Soviet Russia denounced peace with Germany. On November 16 the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army, Jukums Vacietis, gave orders to start a massive attack on a long front from the Gulf of Finland to the Ukraine.

Canada History The first people to live in what is now Canada arrive from Asia at least 20 000 years ago. They arrived by a way of a land bridge that once connected Asia and North America at what is now Alaska. In 1497, John Capot, an Italian navigator in the service of England found rich fishing grounds off Canada's southeast coast. France took the lead in exploring the country and set up a colony in eastern Canada in the early 1600's. Great Britain gained control of the country in 1763 and thousands of British immigrants began to join the French who remained in Canada. Canada gained its independence from Britain in 1931. Position/area Canada is the second largest country in the world. Canada extends across the continent of North America, from Newfoundland to British Columbia. USA - west coast

The area was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before the arrival of traders, explorers and settlers. · The Oregon Territory was created in 1848 after American settlement began in earnest in the 1840s. Oregon became a state (33rd) on February 14, 1859. · Oregon enjoys a diverse landscape including a scenic and windswept Pacific coastline, the volcanoes of a rugged and glaciated Cascade Mountain Range, dense evergreen forests, and high desert across much of the eastern portion of the state. · The towering Douglas firs and redwoods along the rainy Western Oregon coast provide a dramatic contrast with the lower density and fire prone pine tree and juniper forests covering portions of the Eastern half of the state. The eastern portion of the state also includes semiarid scrublands, prairies, deserts, and meadows. These drier areas stretch east from Central Oregon. Mount Hood is the highest point in the state at 11,239 feet

surrounded in the west by the Pacific Ocean, in the east by the Atlantic Ocean and above by many smaller bays, but is also borderedd with Alaska in the north-west. To the north of Canada is the broad Canadian Shield, an area of rock scoured clean by the last ice age, thinly soiled, rich in minerals, and dotted with lakes and rivers. Canada by far has more lakes than any other country and has a large amount of the world's freshwater. You can see more lakes in the south eastern part, on the U.S.A's border, including the famous waterfall Niagara Falls. The eastern areas of Canada are occupied by the Saint Lowrence Lowlands. The Saint Lawrence River widens into the world's largest estuary before flowing into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. In northwestern Canada, the Mackenzie River flows from the Great Slave Lake to the Arctic Ocean. Northern Canadian vegetation tapers from coniferous forests to tundra and finally to Arctic barrens in the far north

Broadway

Breede weg. Broadway is known widely as the heart of the American theatre industry. Broadway was originally the Wickquasgeck Trail, carved into the brush of Manhattan by its Native American inhabitants. This trail originally snaked through swamps and rocks along the length of Manhattan Island. In the 18th century, Broadway ended at the town commons north of Wall Street, where traffic continued up the East Side of the island via Eastern Post Road and the West Side via Bloomingdale Road. The western Bloomingdale Road would be widened and paved during the 19th century, and called "Western Boulevard"or "The Boulevard" north of the Grand Circle, now called Columbus Circle. On February 14, 1899, the name "Broadway" was extended to the entire Broadway/Bloomingdale/Boulevard road.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM

For years, science studied the true causes of acid rain. Some scientists concluded that human production was primarily responsible, while others cited natural causes as well. Recently, more intensive research has been done so that countries have the information they need to prevent acid rain and its dangerous effects. The levels of acid rain vary from region to region. In Third World nations without pollution restrictions, acid rain tends to be very high. In Eastern Europe, China, and the Soviet Union, acid rain levels have also risen greatly. However, because acid rain can move about so easily, the problem is definitely a global one. Kirsika Jürisson 10.A Tallinna 37. Keskkool Õpetaja: Annika Vilu

Clownfish

Finding Nemo, the Pixar movie introduced millions of people around the world the clownfish. Twenty-nine species of clownfish live among the reefs from East Africa to French Polynesia and from Japan to eastern Australia. Among scientists and aquarists, clownfish are also known as anemone fish because they can't survive without a host anemone, whose stinging tentacles protect them and their developing eggs from intruders. It's still a mystery exactly how a clownfish avoids being stung by the anemone. Of the roughly thousand species of anemones, only ten host clownfish. What's good for the clownfish is good for the anemone, and vice versa
