Today, the United States has two major political parties. One is the Democratic party, which evolved out of Thomas Jefferson's party. The other is the Republican party, which was formed by people in the states of the North and West, such as Abraham Lincoln, who wanted the government to prevent the expansion of slavery into new states then being admitted to the union. Most Americans today consider the Democratic party the more liberal party. Democrats believe the federal government and the state governments should be active in providing social and economic programs for those who need them, such as the poor, the unemployed or

Before becoming President (19011909) he held offices at the municipal, state, and federal level of government. The day it was written is celebrated annualy on July 4. the americans finally won the war in 1781 and two years after they were free to govern themselves. By 1848, after buying Florida from Spanish and winning Texas and the west from Mexico, America reached all the way from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, over 5000 kilometers. THE CIVIL WAR Expansion brought many problems, the most important was the problem of slavery. The Republican Party was made to gain support against slavery. After Abraham Lincoln, the republican candidate, was elected for President in 1860 the northern part of america was slave free and it south there was still slavery. In 1861 the war broke out between south and west, and in the question of slavery. In 1865 south had to surrender and the north had won. Then slavery was abolished all over America. Revolution evolved and what it was like. It is important to focus on very different kinds of historical evidence and sources to get a clear picture of the Revolution. Therefore, one must not forget to look not only at the written sources but also at the more cultural and artistic interpretations. One of the best examples of cultural and political distribution of the Revolutionary ideas was Jacques-Louis David, who, with his paintings, perpetuated The French Revolution from the Republican point of view. His art was mostly tightly connected to the main figures, events and ideas of the French Revolution. David had more than 5 pieces of art that captured the essence of the Revolution. His paintings represented political ethics, current ideals and foundations. Furthermore, the wider public was enthralled with his ability to represent brotherhood and patriotism while using the neoclassicistic style. (Friedlaender, 1952, p.16)

On Dec. 14th 1861 Albert died(aged 42) from typhoid fever at Windsore Castle. Victoria was deeply attached to her husband and she sank into depression after he died. She had lost a devoted husband and her principal trusted adviser in affairs of state. For the rest of her reign she wore black. She was persuaded to open Parliament in person in 1866 and 1867, but she was widely criticised for living in seclusion and quite a strong republican movement developed. Seven attempts were made on Victoria's life, between 1840 and 1882 - her courageous attitude towards these attacks greatly strengthened her popularity. In 1876 she was crowned Empress of India by Disraeli. In 1887 Victoria's Golden Jubilee was a grand national celebration of her 50th year as Queen. The Golden Jubilee brought her out of her shell, and she once again embraced public life. She toured English possessions and even

Widowhood Until the late 1860s she rarely appeared in public; although she never neglected her official Correspondence, and continued to give audiences to her ministers and official visitors, she was reluctant to resume a full public life. [7] Victoria's isolation from the public greatly diminished the popularity of the monarchy, and even encouraged the growth of the republican movement. Although she did perform her official duties, she did not actively participate in the government, remaining secluded in her royal residences, Balmoral in Scotland or her residence at Osborne in the Isle of Wight. Meanwhile, one of the most important pieces of legislation of the nineteenth century -- the Reform Act 1867 -- was passed by Parliament. Lord Palmerston was vigorously opposed to electoral reform, but his ministry ended upon his death in 1865. He was followed by Lord

It is an independent nation, but it belongs to the British Commonwealth of Nations. The political system is a federation of six states (Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria). Australia is a parliamentary democracy. Queen Elizabeth II is formally the head of the state, but she is represented in Australia by a Governor General. There are two houses of Parliament: the Senate and the House of Representatives. There is growing Republican feeling in Australia: a desire to break the remaining formal links with Britain and become totally independent. Prince Charles has said that Australians should be able to have a Republic if they want one. Except for the Secretary of State, voters elect executive officers independently these candidates are directly answerable to the public not the governor. This election system has led to some executive branches split between parties and reduced the ability of the governor to carry out a program. When Republican President George W. Bush served as Texas's governor, the state had a Democratic lieutenant governor, Bob Bullock. Criminal law Texas has a reputation of very harsh criminal punishment for criminal offenses. It is one of the 32 states that practice capital punishment and since the US Supreme Court allowed capital punishment to resume in 1976, 40% of all US executions have taken place in Texas. As of 2008, Texas had the 4th highest incarceration rate in the US

The American Civil War (18611865) was a civil war between the United States of America (the "Union") and the Southern slave states of the newly formed Confederate States of America under Jefferson Davis. The Union included all of the free states and the five slaveholding border states and was led by Abraham Lincoln and the Republican Party. Republicans opposed the expansion of slavery into territories owned by the United States, and their victory in the presidential election of 1860 resulted in seven Southern states declaring their secession from the Union even before Lincoln took office. The Union rejected secession, regarding it as rebellion. The war began in 1861 with the bombing at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. After 4 years

However the term probably goes back to the Scots-Irish phrase “ye aw,” when Scots-Irish immigrants had settled in th U.S in the late 18th century. you bet – The term in the meaning of "be assured"came into use by 1857. An American phrase bet your bottom dollar was first cited in the La Crosse Independent Republican, September 1856. defeated. The Irish continued to resist. By the end of the 19th century, most people in Britain favoured Home Rule for Ireland, but the Protestant Unionists in the north were sufficiently strong to prevent it. In 1916 a group of Irish Republicans staged Easter Rising in Dublin. The uprising was put down, but the brutal methods used by the British troops strengthened Irish resistance and let to the formation of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) who fought against British occupation. This resulted, in 1921, in independence being conceded to the 26 counties of southern Ireland, which became the Republic of Eire in 1949. Ulster was allowed to remain within the United Kingdom. Eventually, in 1969, the British government sent in the British Army to restore peace, but they became the enemies. Relations reached their worst point in 1972 on Bloody Sunday

He made important contributions to the 85 essays of The Federalist papers, which effectively outlined the Am governmental system and the basic principles of republican theory. Originally the site of the Forum had been marshy ground, which was drained by the Tarquins with the Cloaca Maxima.[citation needed] Because of its location, sediments from both the flooding of the Tiber River and the erosion of the surrounding hills have been raising the level of the Forum floor for centuries. Excavated sequences of remains of paving show that sediment eroded from the surrounding hills was already raising the level in early Republican times.[citation needed] As the ground around buildings began to rise, residents simply paved over the debris that was too much to remove. Its final travertine paving, still visible, dates from the reign of Augustus. Excavations in the 19th century revealed one layer on top of another. The deepest level excavated was 3.60 meters above sea level. Archaeological finds show human activity at that level with the discovery of carbonised wood.[citation needed]
arose. The Act of Union in 1801 made England and Ireland one country with one parliament in London. During the 19th century, more and more people in Ireland wanted to regain its independence. In 1916 a group of Irish Nationalists, with their leader Patrick Pearse, declared Ireland a free country. This was followed by a battle in which Pearse was killed. In 1918, his men joined a group called Sinn Féin, which became the IRA – the Irish Republican Army. In 1919 and 1920 there were many conflicts between the two sides. In 1921 the northern and southern part separated, the latter became the Irish Free State. In 1949 the southern part declared itself the Republic of Ireland. 37. Government of Ireland. In 395 the empire was divided into two parts – the Western (Rome) and the Eastern (Constantinople, Byzantium) empires. The former collapsed in the 5th century (476). Byzantium lasted for another thousand years and fell to the Turks in 1453. Gaius Julius Caesar ['si:zə] (100 – 44 BC), the Roman statesman, general and author. He conquered Gaul, Egypt, defeated his political opponents and became an absolute dictator (49 BC). Killed by Republican conspirators (M.J. Brutus and G. Cassius). His Commentaries on the Gallic War contain important information about the Celts. He introduced a new, Julian calendar in 46 BC; the seventh month of the year was named after Julius Caesar after his death. To have some idea of J. Caesar and his time, you can see the famous film Cleopatra (especially its first half). Remember these quotations: Alea jacta est. The die is cast. Жребий брошен. Vini, vidi, vici
Fanaticism to a deity is not a good thing. The terrorists of 9/11 killed so many people did so "in the name of God" also. Their creed actually does not call for anything like that. Perversion of God by those who hold power is a sin. Its impossible to truly believe in a religion, and feel justified in killing or persecuting others. The infamous Bill Clinton fiasco was made into big issue because of fundamentalists in government. Newt Gingrich (a former prominent Republican) was much to busy thumping his Bible to even read it. He called for Clinton's head, even thought Newt liked to philander too. This man was exactly like Arthur Dimmesdale in some respects. Both of them were guilty of a sin they themselves were condemning. Hypocrisy was present in Puritan society and it endures still even today. Hypocrisy is the major theme in The Scarlet Letter. Hawthorne's work was meant to highlight the hypocrisy in Puritan
heroe, tough, competent, brave. Seems to be against all forms of governments, comes to conclusion that the republicans way is the best. He finds communism helpful. The question is wheter bloodshed is justified and humane. Unlike earlier hemingway heroes Jordan is an intellectual. Jordan is against suicide, which is major theme in the novel, because Jordan's father commited suicide. Falls in love with Maria, daughter of republican mayor. Three days of love bring him back to life. Maria was raped by facists and her father was killed by facists, disturbed girl. Secondary characters are rememorable. Men and women act differently to war. Men are carried away by war propaganda, women are shown to be wised and appreciate life more than political parties. Men think on taking sides but women value life more. Jordan is an idealist. He is willing to give his life for this cause. But Maria's first loyalty is to her lover, jordan

rector, John Mitchell, and his assistants Magruder and Frederick LaRue, the outlook for a Nixon victory in the November election could not have been brighter. Edmund Muskie, the only announced candidate the early polls had given a chance of unseating the president, had done poorly in the primaries. It looked very much as though the most defeatable candidate, George McGovern, would win the Democratic nomination. A Republican victory seemed assured. • The break-in plan itself was a highly risky operation requiring the participation and discretion of ten men. • The Democratic National Committee and its chairman, Lawrence O'Brien, whose Watergate office was to be burglarized and bugged, had no information damaging enough to defeat the incumbent president. Nor were the Democrats likely to get any, unless the administration did something very, very foolish.
Baconian search. Fabyan gave them their living plus a salary of about $50 a month. The staff was fed and housed in Engledew and Hoover Cottages, the cipher laboratories taking up the first floor of Engledew. The young woman who collated the work of many of the other staff members was Elizebeth Smith. She had been , born August 26, 1892, in Huntington, Indiana, the youngest of the nine children of John M. Smith, a dairyman, banker, and county Republican committeeman, and his wife, Sopha, who spelled her daughter's Christian name witb an e instead of an a in the middle because she was not going to have anyone calling her child "Eliza." After completing high school in Huntington, Elizebeth attended Wooster College briefly but was graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan where she had majored in English. While working at the Newberry Library in Chicago, she was recruited by Fabyan and began work there in 1916.
