competitive party system. Yet, the reality quickly challenged this view. The developments of party politics in post-Soviet Russia have accurately been described in terms of a pendulum effect, as in the 2000s, Russia's party system did finally begin to take for, but with a remarkable twist. Following the break of one-party rule, Russia's party system became strongly fragmented - during the 1995 parliamentary elections, 43 parties competed for popular votes (McFault 1996: 90). In the 21st century, the pendulum has moved back, as the intense party- competition has been replaced with a one-party monopoly. During his term in office, president Putin made a series of reforms that reduced the strength of the most influential pre- existing parties and gathered a majority of the leading politicians into a new pro-Kremlin party called United Russia. While most of world's contemporary parties have been

The current population according to the U.S Census Bureau is 303,026,362 as of 2nd October 2007. This is based on the 2000 census and national population estimates. 8. Natives Native Americans in the United States are the indigenous peoples from the regions of North America now encompassed by the continental United States, including parts of Alaska. They comprise a large number of distinct tribes, states and ethnic groups and, many of which are still enduring as political communities. The European colonization of the Americas nearly destroyed the populations and cultures of the Native Americans. During the fifteenth through nineteenth centuries, their populations were ravaged by conflicts with European explorers and colonists, disease, displacement, enslavement as well as internal warfare. Scholars now believe that, among the various contributing factors, epidemic disease was the overwhelming cause of the population decline of the American natives

Russia Throughout the History

At the beginning of the 19th century Napoleon started his invasions to The Russian Empire. The czar at that time was Alexander I. Napoleon made a big mistake with attacking Russia in the winter, because the army was not used to the merciless climate. Napoleon's army had to retreat and go back to France. The whole world understood now how powerful and strong the Russian empire was ( " I n v a s i o n o f r u s s i a , " ) . Russian empire became more industrialized and the political system stronger and stronger. The country increased its areas. The government was extremely conservative. By the 20th century people noticed that a czar is not the best choice any more. The next ruler Nicholas started to make some changes in the country ( " H i s t o r y a n d c u l t u r e , " ) . These changes brought together the working class which gave a start to the Social Democratic party. In 1905 Nicholas was forces to accept with the new reforms. Later the Social

English Parliament and Elections

After both Houses have reached agreement the bill receives the royal assent and becomes an Act of Parliament and a new law. The House of Lords Members are not elected. They used to have more power but like the power of the monarch it has reduced significantly. No bill can't become a law unless the HoL accepts it but after six months it will become a law anyway. Usually the member own an aristocratic title or they are retired from the House of Commons. Usually parties are very keen to send their older members (who once were in the leadership of the party) into the HoL this gives the party the opportunity to pay them some respect and the same time get rid of them. HoL is like a forum, since they don't depend on parties they can bring some matter to the public that the Parliament has been ignoring. Plus they discuss new laws much more in details. The system of elections Originally the members of the House of Commons is nobody's concern, because every

power. It is a chamber composed of 650 members (Members of Parliament or MPs ) elected by universal suffrage. The life of a Parliament is five years. According to an ancient tradition, MPs are elected by universal suffrage under a system of relative majority, in one round of voting. This means that the candidate with the most votes in an election is elected, whether or not he or she has an absolute majority of votes. This system favors the major political parties, and stable governments - at the expense of smaller parties. Elected Members of Parliament do not have a deputy, so in the event of the death, resignation or removal of an MP, a "by-election" must be called in order to elect a new MP. Each MP represents a territory, or constituency: the link between an MP and his or her constituency is symbolically and historically very important , and in the House of Commons,

The UK

THE U.K Different Parts The United Kingdom is a short way of saying the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The UK is the political name for those countries which share a parliament in London. All of them were at one time independent kingdoms with their own monarch. Now they are all part of the same kingdom and share the same monarch. The UK consists of Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. The peoples of these countries are British subjects; they hold British passports and therefore their nationality is British. The british Isles is the geographical name for all the islands off the west coast of Europe.
