I live in a village called Kapu . This is a small and beautiful place where each house seems to stand on it's own little hill like royalty. Our home is family house with a large enclosed garden which is constrained with spruce hedge. My house was built in 1992 but it has been extensively modernised and extended since then. Our house consists a lot of different elements and components what I try to describe in my essay.
The most important part of construction is foundation because it keeps buildings in one piece . My house has a strip foundation which is taken 1,5m below the ground to protect the structure against ground movement and damages. Due to the fact that foundation transfer the dead and imposed loads of the structure onto the ground it must be very solid and strong . Our foundation is made of pre cast concrete blocks which has a damp -proof course made of mastics on external side. There are sleeper wall after the concrete blocks to support the basement floor slabs .
Next primary elements are the walls. My house has four crosswalls which have load bearing and enclosing role. There are also a lot of internal division walls with dividing role. The crosswalls are made of lightweight concrete blocks. Behind the blocks are moisture barrier which is fixed with brick tie. After that there are sole plates and pads which are nailed into a head timber above and sole plates underneath . Between the studs are thermal insulation what keeps heat inside the building . In the end there are exterior finishing , consists of weather shield , ventilation gap and lining boards. Internal walls are similar , but there are blasterboard on both sides what are also painted.
Floors are important elements of house, because they must provide an accetable surface, sound and thermal insulation, and also carry and transfer imposed and dead loads. In my house is one ground floor what is made of pre cast concrete and upper floor what is made of timber. We chose a timber floor, because in private house is special sound insulation not required . The timber floor joist run wall to wall and the joists are bear on the wall. As we know the decking can be finished in different ways . We used PVC sheets in kitchen , parquet in living room and bedrooms and tiles in bathroom. We have different colours wood linings in every room.
Roofs are part of external envelope and the main purpose is to protect buildings against precipitations and sounds. My house have a pitched roof what is covered with corrugated iron. Roof struss consists of principal rafters, ceiling joists and struts made of timber. Those parts are secured together with steel connector what is pressed into the timber. There are also iron gutters and drainpipes to run water away.
The main purpose of stairs is to provide floor-to-floor access . Our stairs are made of timber and there are no handrail, because it is between two walls and there are only six steps. The nosings are 3 cm high and there are also risers behind every step , made of timber also. All the steps are varnished.
We can also find secondary elements in every house. So, there are doors , windows and finishing elements. There are a lot of finishing elements in my house. In the kitchen we have blue wallpaper what is washable. In livingroom we have painted walls and in bathrooms we have red tiles on the wall, the joint are made of grey mortar . All the windows are casements type, what means they are side hung on hinges . We have double package windows. Head of window is made of plastic and is white. There are also a lot of sealers to make windows warmer. Our external door is made of steel, because it has a security purpose. Internal doors are made of timber. There are also architrave what helps to hold door closed. Actually we have one french window to move to the balcony .
In conclusion I can say that every house consist of elements what in turn are made up of components as well as my house. My home construction is quite simple , it consists of commonly used strip foundtation, cross walls, timber and concrete floors and typical truss roof. Secondary elements in my house are also commonly used, there are casement windows and timber doors. Stairs are also very simple, it does not even have handrails. But it is my home, a place where I was born and where I grew up and it always brings a great memories.

HOUSE AND HOME tööleht

In any case, flats are generally not very popular with the British, especially compared to the rest of Europe, though they are acceptable to many people in the centre of big cities. People prefer housing in the suburbs, and a garden of any size is considered essential. There is a growing tendency to move away from the hustle and noise of big cities, and large areas in the countryside are now being swallowed up by ‘urban sprawl’. The saying ‘An Englishman’s home is his castle’ is well-known and it illustrates the desire for privacy. A large detached house not only ensures privacy, it is also a status symbol. When surrounded by garden, it gives the required feeling of rural life. Many Londoners, if they can afford it, move to expensive riverside apartment blocks, which continue to grow in popularity. Many of the former derelict warehouses in the Docklands have been converted into modern flats

It is a two story house with a red roof and the house is surrounded by big white fence. Stepping into the garden, you can notice a cobblestoned road, which takes you to the door. bricks. The cut bricks are hardened by drying for 20 to 40 hours at 50 to 150 °C before being fired. The heat for drying is often waste heat from the kiln. Characteristics of Brick (slide 12) Clay bricks are good insulators. As wall materials, clay bricks make walls heavy and dense and conduct heat slowly. This slow heat conduction reduces peak cooling loads in summer and peak heating loads in winter making your home energy-efficient all year round. · The characteristic thickness and density of a clay brick wall reduces noise transmission and deflects noise from the outdoors for a peaceful and quiet home. · Clay bricks do not warp, rust, split, peel or fade over time. They do not harbor termites and appear more beautiful as they grow older. While clay bricks may be expensive to acquire, their low maintenance and durability

different: it can be small or big, private or public, cool or warm, loud or quiet, etc. 2. How do we perceive space? So we perceive space by our five senses: hearing, smell, touch, vision, taste. But how I understood every sense is dominated by memories and by our previous experience. Also we perceive space by using it, by having activities in it. For example we perceive our house/home by cooking, eating, sleeping, playing, watching tv, etc. And while having activities in our home we understood is it good or bad space for those activities - for us. Mini conclusion: space is abstract and infinite. You can perceive it no matter what kind of experiences you have, but every human feels “their own space” in their own way, because everyone has their own possibilities, experiences, feelings, activities, traditions, etc. Kodutöö 3 1.10 Raimund Abraham, “Negation and Reconciliation” Tadao Ando “Toward new horizons of architecture” 1
