Giza Pyramid

The sarcophagus of the King's Chamber was hollowed out of a single piece of Red Aswan granite and has been found to be too large to fit through the passageway leading to the chamber. Whether the sarcophagus was ever intended to house a body is unknown, and no lid has ever been found. The King's Chamber is lined with red granite brought from Aswan. The kings chamber and the first 4 relieving chambers have roofs made out of granite. Each roof includes 8 or 9 granite slabs weighing 25 to 80 tonnes each. Egyptologists believe they were transported on ferries down the Nile river. Queen's Chamber The Queen's Chamber is the middle and the smallest. The Queen's chamber is inappropriately named as it was never intended for one his queens, they had their very own pyramids built for them. The name is thought to have come from early Arab explorers who recognised the familiar gabled ceilings that are common to female burial chambers

Home description

My house has a strip foundation which is taken 1,5m below the ground to protect the structure against ground movement and damages. Due to the fact that foundation transfer the dead and imposed loads of the structure onto the ground it must be very solid and strong. Our foundation is made of pre cast concrete blocks which has a damp-proof course made of mastics on external side. There are sleeper wall after the concrete blocks to support the basement floor slabs. Next primary elements are the walls. My house has four crosswalls which have load bearing and enclosing role. There are also a lot of internal division walls with dividing role. The crosswalls are made of lightweight concrete blocks. Behind the blocks are moisture barrier which is fixed with brick tie. After that there are sole plates and pads which are nailed into a head timber above and sole plates underneath. Between the studs are thermal insulation what keeps heat inside the building

is rarely used on bread. Thanks to the Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten), which gives everyone the freedom to roam and enjoy nature, many Swedes grow up picking lingonberries in the forest, and using these tiny tart red fruits to make the jam-like preserve. Open sandwiches When you order a sandwich, don’t be surprised if it involves just a single slice of bread. The concept of open sandwiches dates back to the 15th century when thick slabs of bread were used as plates. In Sweden, the shrimp sandwich (räksmörgås) remains the option fit for a king. Piled high with a mix of boiled egg slices, lettuce, tomato and cucumber, this seafood snack is often topped with creamy blended with dill sprigs and roe. Pickled herring — center of the smorgasbord You might swap out meatballs (köttbullar) for mini sausages (prinskorv) or pick cured

The Domician Monastery

The Dominican monastery in Tallinn was destroyed on ,1524. In 1954 the former garden, cloister and refectory of the Dominican monastery were restored and opened to visitors. One of the most beautiful and peacefri pleaces in Talliun is the cloister garden whict is-bordered on one side by the church of Saints Peter and Paul and on the other by the original church of Saint Catherin. The .cloisxer and refectory contain a permanent exhibition of carved stone slabs. Sea and limestone ( dolomaite) are two symbols of northern Estonia. Tallinn owes much of its distincitve flavour to the use of the beautiful stone in its walls and towers, and in its secular and religious architecure. Carved stone decorated public buildings and private houses. The designs employed belong to the Gothic renaissance and Baroque periods. Windows were emphasized by slender piers and graceful curves. Armorial sheilds bespoke the pride of their owners.

The houses had no numbers and were known by the owner's name. Churches The Cathedral of St. Mary the Virgin (the Dome Church) was consecrated in 1240. The church suffered in the fire of 1684 and was largely reconstructed. A Baroque tower was added in the 18th century and the dated weather-vane (1779) crowning the spire is the only original one on Toompea today. Among other functions, the church served as a burial ground for the rich and the noble. The church also features grave slabs, an oaken Baroque altar by Christian Ackermann and a number of monuments to famous people (e.g. Pontus de la Gardie. Karl Horn and Admiral Adam Johann Krusenstern). The church has also a valuable collection of Baltic- German noblemen's coats of arms, many of them were carved from wood by the famous Tallinn wood carver Christian Ackermann in the 17th century. Nowadays, the church has an Estonian Lutheran congregation and also serves as a concert hall. St. Nicholas' Church

Gothic style. At the ground-floor level the façade is articulated by the vestibule's openings. The stoop has been built anew, although it is shorter than the original one. In 2008 in Tallinn's City Council a decicion was made as to which project they should first give money to: City Theatre or Kultuurikatla aed. Kultuurikatla aed's project was chosen over City Theatre's project. 7 There is public access to the lobby (diele) of the theatre. Stone slabs in the pavement in front of the house refer to theatre's most popular productions. 27 Lai Street On the land between Lai and Laboratooriumi Street there is a building that is the same size as the building that was there before (was destroyed in the war) but it has a new layout and a gabled façade. Beacuse of that it differs greatly from the usual medieval houses. The office buiding by architect Nikolai Kusmin (one of the first professional

Bridges presentation

In 1665, a missionary named Kircher described another chain-link suspension bridge of 200ft (61m) made up of twenty iron links, a common bridge type built during the Ming Dynasty that was not adapted until the 19th century in America and Europe. China's oldest surviving bridge, and the world's oldest open-spandrel segmental arch, is the Zhaozhou Bridge (c AD 605), attributed to Li Chun and built south-west of Beijing in Hebei Province during the Song Dynasty. Its thin, curved stone slabs were joined with iron dovetails so that the arch could yield without collapsing. This technique allowed the bridge to adjust to the rise and fall of abutments bearing on spongy, plastic soils and the live loads of traffic. Following the decline of the Roman Empire with its many engineer- ing achievements, beam, arch, suspension, and cantilever bridge building flourished in China while languishing in Europe for nearly eight centuries

activity, even though Denver is not located in a zone of high seismic activity. Figure 6. Complex Steel Skeleton (Eastman, n.d.). The floor system consists of steel with a composite floor deck. The design of the floor system was complicated by the forces of the inclined structural walls, which create very significant in-plane forces under dead load. To deal with these forces, additional reinforcement was required within the concrete floor slabs. In areas of particularly high stress, the metal deck was replaced with a ½ in. (12.7 mm) steel plate welded directly to the beams. Similarly, a substantial amount of steel diagonal bracing in the roof plane was required to supplement the roof framing in areas where concrete diaphragms were not an option (Figure 6). 28 2.5. He pulled a master key out of somewhere and a moment later we were in a room. I pounced, pushing my hands up beneath his shirt to feel his damp skin and the hardness of the muscles beneath it. "Get naked. Like now ." He laughed as he toed off his sneakers and yanked his tank over his head. Oh my God...seeing him in the flesh-all of him, as his shorts hit the floor-was synapse frying. There wasn't an ounce of excess flesh on him anywhere, just hard slabs of honed muscle. He had washboard abs and that super sexy V of muscle on his pelvis that Cary called the Loin of Apollo. Gideon didn't wax his chest like Cary did, but he groomed with the same care he showed to the rest of his body. He was pure primal male, the embodiment of everything I coveted, fantasized about, and wished for. "I've died and gone to heaven," I said, staring unabashedly. "You're still dressed
